Whispering Wishes

Rate this book
Be careful what you wish for...

Normally, Aspen Edwards will do anything for her free-spirited best friend, Mischa, but this feels like a bit much. The plan is simple, all Aspen has to do is write down a few affirmations and recite them during the New Moon. But as skeptical as Aspen is, a promise is a promise. So, she whispers each wish to the universe, pondering the possibilities of "what if." Who wouldn't want a promotion at work, a new home, or to become an irresistible sex goddess?

But Aspen’s luck doesn't change with the wishes, or the wind. Each of her whispered prayers produces disaster. She gets fired. Her car breaks down. She gets kicked out of her house. And of course there is the crap icing on the cake of doom, falling for flirtatious and sexy, Wes, who sees her as nothing more than his “little sis”. It might not be so bad if his house weren't the only place she had to go.

Unbeknownst to her, the universe has a few tricks up its sleeve, and Aspen's bad luck streak might just be putting her right where she needs to be!

I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars! It totally deserves more! It's been a long time since a book had me laughing from the very first chapter to the very last. I was on chapter 4 when I was on the treadmill reading this and while I was taking a sip of water I laughed spitting the water out and nearly falling off the treadmill. I loved the way this story played out and brought humor to a lot of crappy circumstances Aspen goes through. I don't want to post any spoilers so I will just say this... Wax...chicken...the coffee tastes like shit...did I mention wax?? This book is a MUST read and I will be recommending it to everyone I know! I can't wait to read more from Jennifer Miller! She mad me a huge fan with this book!

4 Wishful Sighs!
Review by Jen Hagen

I didn’t know what to expect when I first started this book. I have read Jennifer’s previous works and while one inserted a small amount of humor along with drama, the second was all drama and angst. She is a talented author that can turn around a write a complete romantic comedy. I was laughing so hard I was shaking the couch and the kids were telling me to stop reading because I was annoying them. No way was I going to stop at that certain part which involved hot wax and an appendage.

Aspen has just put together a list of wishes at the insistence of her best friend who is a firm believer in these rituals. She offered up her wishes to the universe and in exchange she should be experiencing contentment and enjoyment from having her wishes fulfilled. That is so not happening as the next morning this is her first sign the universe paid no attention to her wishes…

I lift my foot and see a ginormous pile of dog sh*t on the bottom of it.

Well if that isn’t telling you your stars aren’t in alignment I don’t know what would. Perhaps it’s the bad luck that continues to follow Aspen throughout the next couple days that clues her in that the universe is not playing nice with her wishes. Everything that could go wrong for Aspen does and when the opportunity arises she takes it upon herself to give the universe and everybody standing in her way of reaching her goals a final salute…

I give them all double middle fingers and take a bow. “Peace out mother*ckers!”>/b>

There is a bright spot to be found in her series of unfortunate events – Wes. Wes is a hot bartender who comes to Aspen’s rescue on more than one occasion. Both Wes and Aspen have had relationships that ended ugly and both of them seem to be hesitant in making their true feelings known. Aspen seems to think that Wes is acting like a big brother.

One night in an attempt for Aspen to discover her inner sexual goddess (this was on her list) she makes a decision without completely thinking it through. This places a little bit of a strain on her and Wes opening up to each other and revealing their hidden desires. Once they get past that awkward moment and Wes can pick himself off the ground from laughing hysterically, they begin to understand that they both are wanting the other…and the crashing items onto the floor should be a good indicator as to how much they want each other . They leave a path of destruction until they reach their final destination.

Everything is going well, but it can’t stay that way can it? The universe has not been kind to Aspen and why would she suddenly change and grant Aspen a wish? Poor Aspen…how can the world be this cruel to her? Aspen’s heart is smashed into tiny little pieces.

He just stares at me with his eyes wide, and mouth open. It opens and closes like he’s a f*cking goldfish, but he never says a word.

If you find yourself stuck in a rut and are tired of bad boys, tattooed rock stars and alpha males then you need to read Whispering Wishes. This was a fun read and the author was even able to incorporate a little angst into the story without making my stomach hurt too much. Even in those moments of angst she still kept a humorous touch to it. I enjoyed switching gears from my drama-filled readings to this lighthearted read that had me laughing uncontrollably.

Once again the very talented Jennifer Miller has written an amazing book. I could totally relate with Aspen's character. Everything she did went wrong. She felt everyone was against her. She still had her best friend Mischa. Loved her and Wes together. This book made me laugh out loud. Bravo Jennifer!!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story of Aspen and Wes. I honestly thought the beginning of the story was slow and it took me time to connect to the characters. Overall this was a good book.

** CHRISTINA'S 5 STAR REVIEW **

So I sit down to start Whispering Wishes and I wish someone had told me : DO NOT DRINK OR EAT ANYTHING WHILE READING THIS BOOK. Seriously I laughed so hard throughout this book I spit my tea all over my ipad mini. Jennifer Miller has taken Romcom to a whole new level with this one.

Aspen is a beautiful and intelligent woman. She has a steady job, a home and great friends. But she just isn’t fulfilled. There is so much more she wants out of life. This is when her best friend Mischa tells her about a little bit of universe magic that might help her get all she wants.

“It’s simple, and so exciting. On the night of a new moon, like tonight, you meditate about what you want to happen in your life. Things you want to change or declarations you want to make. You let those thoughts manifest themselves into a list that you write out. Basically, you make strong, declarative statements about what you want.”

“Okay, got it. A list. That seems easy enough. Then what?” She neatly stacks the last set of Tarot cards and turns toward me, brown eyes shining as she continues explaining, “You reflect and think deeply on your list, internalize it, and when you’re ready, you burn it.”

I raise my brows. “Burn it? Why? What does that do?” “It represents sending your wishes for your life into the universe. The universe will accept them and then you just need to be confident in the message you sent, and let the universe do her thing.” “Do her thing?” “Yes,” she sighs at me as she walks behind the register and grabs the duster. “Trust the universe to work its magic and take care of you.”

So trust she did.. and what followed had me rolling on the floor and my family looking at me like I had lost my ever loving mind! SERIOUSLY!! I would get over one fit of laughter and read a bit more and bust up again!! I am reading along and when you read things like:

“Oh yeah? It’s because this is the hottest a** chicken you ever did see!”

“Holy h***!” I yell. “Would that even fit in my coochie?”

Oh and then there might be something about a candle and a penis but well I will let you read to find out more on that..

ANYWAY.. seriously this book was amazing. Once I started I could not put it down. The writing is awesome the story line incredible and the love story that is in there might just melt your heart into a puddle. You can tell there was a lot of heart and soul from the author put into this book. I love how the story is more “real” to life. I applaud the author on making this story so relate-able. Really this could be ANYONES story. I didn’t mention much about the guy but let me tell you his is a HOTTIE!! He is quirky and loveable. You will fall in love with him from the moment you meet him. 5 stars for the Amazing Jennifer Miller!! I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!!!

Wow! Can I just say that I LOVED this book!? It simply took my breath away the way the author described Aspen's and Wes' relationship. While there were a few things I didn't like towards the end of the book, the overall book was amazing. The main character, Aspen seems to have her life together; college graduate, has a steady job, rents the perfect house, and has a reliable vehicle. When her best friend, Mischa suggests making a list to the universe, Aspen takes her advice. Burning the evidence of her wishes she begins the long wait that promises to bring her good luck.

Good luck does not come her way. As soon as the list is burned all hope is lost for Aspen. Her life begins to fall apart around her; she loses her job (after leaving with a classic "screw you" to just about everyone in the office!), her car breaks down, and worse of all she is being evicted from her house. Luck seems to be going in a downwards spiral for Aspen until she meets the handsome Wes who works at D'Vine, a local wine bar.

Who would expect her luck to turn around when he over hears her discussing her job? Who would have expected the handsome devil to smirk, and flirt with her as she sits with Mischa venting about her day that she's suffered through? Wes comes into her life unexpectedly, and completely steals her heart (as well as mine!). Badass wannabe, anybody? Wes steals her heart away, makes her fall in love with him, and sort of saves the day when he offers the spare bedroom to her in his house.

I could go on and on about their relationship, and an overall recap of the book, but I don't want to post any more spoilers. I did not like the fact that the end of the book, where Aspen and Wes' relationship really turns into something seemed completely rushed. If there is a chance of a second book coming out, I would read it in a heartbeat. I give Whispering Wishes by Jennifer Miller a strong 4/5 stars.

I've never come across a book that has made me laugh on the first page. This book does just that! I absolutely love Aspen's personality throughout this whole book. Her reactions to things happening around her is just absolutely hilarious. Her interaction with Wes is also rather cute as well. I loved the way it ended and was very sad when it was over! Great work, Jennifer! I will never look at sex toys the same way again!

Aspen is so fun!!! She's just one of those characters you don't want to put away when the book is done!! Wes is seriously hot and adorable at the same time. Aspen's (mid)adventures throughout this book left my stomach sore from laughing. I just loved following her on her journey. This is definitely going back into the re-read pile because I was sad to see it end!!!

I laughed so hard while reading this book - there were just some outrageously funny moments that I can't believe would actually happen to someone! And seriously.....I felt so bad for Aspen, as one thing after another kept going wrong for her. The scene at the bank - awesome! What person hasn't thought about going off like that at work? I know I do! Ultimately all those bad things that happened led her to Wes, and I love them together. Yes, at times they were being a little ridiculous.....but it made their coming together even sweeter. I really enjoyed the overall story and message from the book - everything does happen for a reason :)

What a surprise! Never sure when a book claims to be funny, but this one really was!

I loved these two! Aspen is one of the best fmc's I've come across in a while. The situations she runs into and her reactions to them are hilarious! And Wes! A golden retriever who adores everything about her through it all, always coming to her rescue. Their banter is perfect.

Only thing that would've made it even better was having some chapters in Wes's perspective, but there was a bonus one added in at the end.

Well written with great characters. I will definitely check out more of Jennifer Miller's books.

Wish there was a number higher than 5 to give this book! I feel like this was my story. If it can go wrong it did. Ms. Miller has the ability to write a story that you get wrapped up in and feel a part of. I read this straight through, I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!! You will love this book and thank me for it in the long run

Funny and romantic!

This book is hilarious, so many laugh out loud moments. Sweet and romantic as well. What Aspen thinks is the universe turning on her, is all actually leading her right to where she belongs. In Wes's arms and life.

Excellent!

Great romance story about how two people write lists of things they want in their lives and realize in the end they were made for each other. There was doubt from the beginning about how the process worked, but in the end, it worked out perfect.

What I love about Jennifer's heroines is that they are always so relate-able. They're not perfect, funny things happen to them and they always get the hot guy. In Whispering Wishes we meet Aspen and she has horrible luck. Haven't we all had one of those days that everything just seems to go wrong and you find yourself shaking your fist and screaming "why me?" at the bad luck fairy? No? Just me? If I had been Aspen, I think I would have hunted down that damn bad luck fairy and taken her down! Aspen's luck begins to change when she meets Wes. Don't get me wrong, her luck still stinks, but she has Wes, along with her best friend Mischa to help her through it. I loved the way Jennifer introduced Wes into the story and the banter in that scene is hilarious. I fell in love with him from the very beginning. Wes is wonderful, swoon worthy, and NICE! Yes, he rides a motorcycle and yes, he wears a leather jacket and has a mohawk, but that's where the bad boy stops. He is a good guy, doesn't have mommy/daddy issues, and has a job. Despite Aspen's run of bad luck, she has a pretty normal life too. This is such a nice change from the popular story lines that everyone seems to be favoring lately. In Jennifer's third book, she proves that she doesn't need to conform to typical contemporary story lines to create a book that readers will love and that will stand out from the rest. She knows how to write a hilarious and very steamy romance that will have you not wanting to put it down until you've finished. Her writing is witty and fast paced with well developed characters. I highly recommmend Whispering Wishes and encourage you to check out all of Jennifer Miller's books. You won't be disappointed. Whispering Wishes is a stand alone with no cliffhanger.

Absolutely hilarious! This was a quick, fun romance read that I was literally laughing through the entire time! No joke, like full on laughing, I even had tears in my eyes at one point.

Our heroine, Aspen, starts our journey off by making a list of wishes and sending them out into the universe. But, instead of wishes coming true, she instead experiences a series of, what can only be described as, bad luck. She loses her job, her house, her car breaks down, etc.

It's not until she meets our hero, Wes, that things begin to look up, or at least they would if she could stop embarrassing herself in front of him. Through their relationship Aspen will eventually learn if she is doomed to be unlucky, or if perhaps there is a silver lining to all that's happened to her.

The plot was super cute in this book. The writing was great, and I loved laughing along. The romance portion wasn't as all-consuming as I like, but I still really really enjoyed this book. There was no big plot twists or anything like that, so I would say if you're looking for a quick, funny, cute beach or poolside read this would be the perfect book for you.

I will definitely be checking out more by this author!

Thank you Jennifer Miller for this masterpiece, I've been in a book slump for a while now and can't remember the last time I gave a 5 star rating, this one deserves more stars!!!!
Wow I loved this book, I've read this authors Deadly Sins series (hot MMA fighters) and loved those also but I think this book was fantastic! I love that Aspen was so relate-able as we all can understand wanting to hunt down the bad luck fairy a time or two throughout life :-) Her bad luck wasn't over the top at all and so I didn't feel the need to roll my eyes to the back of my head as I've done in some previous books that blame bad luck. Loved Aspen she was awesome, sincere, so damn funny with me actually laughing out loud a few times and smiling so much my husband thought I was weird! She had a fantastic friendship with Mish, who added a different element to the book.
Wes *sigh* everyone needs a Wes, he was a TOTAL package, hot, tatts, motorcycle, Mohawk and to top it all off was a sweetie :-) Loved how they met and the banter between them, their friendship was great.
Could go on and on about this amazing book, so I strongly recommend you grab a copy for yourself, you shouldn't be disappointed!

Aspen Edwards was a normal person, being far away from home, she found a sister in her best friend free-spirited Mischa. After so many years of trying to make Aspen do a wishing list, Mischa finally convinced her to do it. Aspen being the non-believer she did it anyways, hoping that everything on the list would come true.

After she did the ritual Aspen felt good, until a series of bad luck happens to her. When she meets Mischa for drinks one afternoon, the last thing she imagines is to meet Wes, a gorgeous, tattooed, mohawk wearing waiter.

Aspen kept going back to the bar where Wes works at and she finds herself becoming his friends, thinking that her luck was getting from bad to worse she never in her wildest imagination thought Wes would look at her the same way she was looking at him. Her luck started to change in her favor without her realizing it.

Will Aspen accept her new changes or will she let the opportunity pass her by?

I love this book, besides having a great plot it also makes you laugh.

I will recommend you to read this magical love story.

OMG I didn't think Jennifer Miller could make me love her writing any more than I already did but she proved me SO WRONG!!! I stumbled upon her books last year and I fell in love. I wasn't sure I was going to like this book as much as her previous books but I do. This book is so funny and sweet. You will love and certainly identify with Aspen. I think we have all tried different things to get what we want out of life and it includes some off the wall ideas. Aspen listens to her BFF and whispers her wishes to the universe and then we get to sit back and watch the universe work its magic. Wes...I mean I don't know what to say about Wes. I love him. He is totally the fun guy that everyone wants and then he turns it up a notch and is so super freaking sweet!!! You can't help but love him. I seriously fell in love with these characters and I think you will too.

This book is a seriously 4.5 stars out of 5. GO GET IT!!!!!

I have to say that Whispering wishes is the first book that I have read by Author Jennifer Miller, but it will certainly not be the last. Jennifer’s book sucked me in from the very beginning and left me not wanting to put it down at the very end. I can’t remember the last time I read a book and actually laughed so much. And I am not talking just a few laughs here and there I am talking something that kept me either smiling or laughing throughout the whole thing.

Aspen Edwards is a character that I think most people would be able to relate to. She is having a string of bad circumstances that are happening, but as she blames the universe saying that the universe hates her she is just being led to her true path in life. The one thing I will say is that if you are looking for a sweet, hilariously funny, romantic comedy then this is your book. I am hoping that Jennifer Miller just may continue with another book and maybe make it a series.

A fun and lighthearted romantic comedy. Aspen is an incredibly sweet, intelligent and beautiful woman who is so focused on her life as it is, she forgets to step back and look at the bigger picture. Her best friend Mischa is a freespirited, cosmically open to the world metaphysical shop owner who is usually trying to help Aspen "open up"! Enter a new moon ritual, some whispered wishes sent out into the universe then let the chaos insue. What was supposed to change her life for the better, begins a domino effect of just plain bad luck. But fate is not done with her yet! Throw in a very public tantrum, a chicken suit encounter, and a HOT bad boy! Then mix in the worst blind date mishap ever, some major misunderstandings and lots of laugh out loud moments and you'll have the perfect story of Whispering Wishes.

I loved this book. I love reading Jennifer's books so knew I wouldn't be disappointed with this. what an absolutely funny and heart-warming read this book is. It had me feeling every ounce of Aspen' s frustration with the universe and her job. I laughed so hard tears were falling down my face, some of the things and situations she got herself into were beyond hilarious. Aspen is my kind of girl with the same dry sense of humour, with a hint of sarcasm, as myself and I was really rooting for her, I even did a tiny fist pump to the air at the scene in the bank (as a mark of women's solidarity, of course) . And then there's Wes. *Holy Dreamboat* What a sweet, sexy guy he is, the perfect fit to Aspen' character.

All in all I loved this book and would highly recommend it. A fabulously funny story with a much deserved 5 stars from me.

This book was such a fun read; I really connected with Aspen almost from the start. Within a short few days her safe, but boring life spirals out of control. She struggles to make sense of the tricks the universe seems to be playing on her and bemoans her string of exceptionally bad luck.

Aspen, however, is a plucky girl, and as she fights to regain some semblance of order, her best friend Mischa suggests something that seems outrageous at first. With its breezy style, fast pace, delightful dialogue and clever storyline this book literally had me howling with laughter not just once or twice but several times. It is a good thing I was reading this book at home so only my husband witnessed my spells of temporary lunacy!

This book was provided to me in exchange for my honest review.

My first thoughts into this book are if this whole book could have the same vibe as the conversation between Aspen and Mischa right when Aspen sees Wes for the first time, it would be fantastic! I laughed so hard I had tears at times while reading this book. It did seem to take a long time for Wes and Aspen to actually admit their attraction to each other. I am over the top in love with this book!! The ending is perfect. I had never even heard of this author until I found this book and decided to read it. I am so glad I took the chance! I can’t wait to read more!! I love a romantic comedy and this is one of the best that I have ever read!!
