So I read the Elementals a while back and it was not my favorite, in fact it didn't even make it anywhere near the list. The books were too dark for me and had unnecessary drama (the whole Blake-Nicole fiasco) and after reading the dark twins as well, it was enough for me to stay away from Michelle's books. Again, the whole "someone else's boyfriend but should be mine cause we are meant to be" didn't work well for me. Fast forward to 2025, I read the Star Touched: Fae Bound books (eagerly waiting for the final :)) ) and decided to give her another try. Unfortunately, the elementals academy just didn't hit right for me.

Summer is introduced to us as an intense, no bs person right from the start which initially drew me in however, as the books progress she often has this mean girls vibe. It's like she takes everything she's been given for granted. Her soulmate, her suitemate, her friend - literally anyone who cares enough for her. Sure, when Alyssa gets hurt she's upset about it, but she has no qualms in reminding Alyssa what a coward she was for freezing up near a troll when a newbie like herself didn't. Thankfully, she does get better with Alyssa (and Jamie as well) in book 4 slightly redeeming herself, and her reasons for pushing her away can also be seen as somewhat valid if not felt like the author had to justify her in some way.

One of the most looked down characters in this entire series is Zane. Honestly, I don't even know where to start from for Zane. He's an immortal prince whose been spying on the academy for his uncle and unexpectedly meets his soulmate. Zane is willing to do absolutely anything for Summer, even if means turning good - even if his reasoning for this is solely dependent on the fact Summer's his soulmate and he doesn't want her to hate him, not because he actually wants to be good (which is a whole other thing btw) - and Summer not so much. Not at all actually. Like ok, she hates him at the start because he's a monster who wants to hurt everyone she loves but, it's really annoying how casually she wants him to give her his blood to heal whenever she gets hurt after finding out his secret, for eg. - what happens after Loki in the nine realms.

Other than the characters, the stereotypes depicting the gods was really tiresome - children of Dionysus love wearing purple, Hades is the king of the underworld so only black clothing for Summer, god forbid she sees any chance to not tell us how wearing black her whole life means she's definitely the daughter of Hades 🙄🙄

I could go on to so many details which were just annoying to read, but that would be a whole list on it's own and I could say the entire series was horrible to read but that would be a lie. Books 2 and 3 were definitely a pain to read through but Summer made up for it in book 4, which was honestly, the only reason why I read all of the books (as well as the short chapters, thank god🙏).
Overall, I think it just needed more detailing, better character arcs as well as better chemistry between Summer and a lot of people, especially Zane - because half the time it didn't even feel like they were meant to be together. It just felt like one moment Summer hated Zane and somehow they end up getting together by the end, because Zane is willing to forgive her (cause she's his soulmate, duh) for literally betraying him so many times.

Other than that, the workings of the academy were well written, and meeting Nicole, Blake and Kate again was great.

My review is for the audiobook version of Elementals Academy.

Another great series by Michelle Madow! If you're new to her work, I suggest reading the Elementals series first, but you won't be lost if you read this first.

Michelle packs lots of adventure and mythology into her stories. Or maybe I should say adventures into mythology. It's truly a fun ride from beginning to end, whether it's on the back of a hellhound or in a mythical flying chariot. I highly recommend her books to anyone. They're full of adventure, fantasy, and romance. I haven't read all of her books, but I have read most, and if you're concerned about language or sexual content, I believe Michelle's books are safe for everyone. There may be occasionally a mild swear word, but more likely just a mention that a character swore, not what he said. There are some sexual references but they are very mild. "A glance at his hips showed he was thinking of that moment as well."

Patricia Santomasso has narrated most of Michelle's books and she did a wonderful job on this series, just like on all the rest.

If you're reading reviews to decide whether or not to spend a credit on this series, go ahead and do it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The book was a predictable read as big challenges were faced with the main characters. The hurdles they had to overcome were over and done with in a matter of a few sentences and everything works out. The building to the bond of the main characters was immediate and no real build up, just a kiss and they are soulmates and now are deeply in love with no back story or building up the relationship. It was a bit unbelievable in that made for a funny story, doing all these things for someone you literally don’t know (& we don’t know either). The books are definitely a PG fantasy love story for younger audiences. It’s cute & entertaining but not the best story amount the other books by the same author. Personally I am not a fan of the reader, the way she read the main character story voice really annoyed me and the “he said”, “I said”, really got annoying fast in how dialog was read. At times I’d just switch to reading the kindle version to get past it since I wasn’t much a fan. The male voices were all the same too so sometimes it was easier to read yourself to get some context of who was speaking. All in all, cute story, nothing worth a re-read in my opinion.

What It’s About:
A sequel series set after The Elementals, this follows a new main character stepping into a world that’s still reeling from past events. The magic is stronger, the danger deeper, and the stakes are higher—especially with new pantheons entering the mix.

What Stuck With Me:
I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this as much as I did, especially with a new protagonist—but I ended up hooked. The mix of mythology works surprisingly well, and the story balances magical training, emotional bonding, and looming conflict without repeating what came before.

What I Liked:
Expanded mythological scope (without spoilers, just know: it’s ambitious and it works)
A new lead with a strong voice and new challenges
Emotional bonds that add depth (yes, soulmates are a thing!)
A great continuation for fans of the original series—but fresh enough to stand on its own

Recommended For:
Readers who love YA fantasy with magical schools, mythological crossovers, and evolving worlds. If you liked The Elementals, this feels like a natural next step—with a new voice and new threats.

3.25-3.5 (good to very good)

This is a connected series that takes place after The Elementals series and focuses on the Academy founded at the end of it. This expanded the story and added quite a few new characters, elements, and also had a few familiar faces.

This was slow to start, but got more interesting as I read it. This was more of a solo story and yet the main character, Summer, also learned she was not alone with all the new connections and allies she made along the way. The story and how it unfolded was interesting, the pace was good, and while Im not sure I connected to it as much as the original series I still did enjoy it. The additions beyond the Greek gods were interesting and what made this worth a read. The very end was kind of annoying, even if it did make sense at the same time.

This was a good series. I had previously read the first book back when it was released but never followed up after the others were released. However, when it was released as a boxed set with the audible version available for 99 cents, I couldn't resist buying it. I finally got around to it and found it most enjoyable. The characters are strong and well written. The romance is sweet and clean so it's suitable for everyone. The adventures are exciting and it was time well spent.

So good

I loved elementals. elementals Academy, was so good also. A very enjoyable read. I would recommend this series to all ages. I'm 57 and loved the series. I don't understand why these books aren't made into a series on TV. I don't tell what is in the books I read. That's for you to read and find out. Off to my next read.
