Six months after the events of YOU INVITED IT IN, world-renowned parapsychologist Emmanuel Stark releases a video sent to him by Lilith Lavelle, claiming it shows *proof* of an afterlife.
The video goes viral.
Asher Eastwood finds himself at the epicentre of a media frenzy, one that puts him in danger. To escape the too-eager reporters and paranormal enthusiasts, Asher, his uncle Eli, and their dog Specs flee to a holiday let in the middle of nowhere.
The only problem is, they’re not alone.
Kill the host, kill the demon.
Praise for 'YOU INVITED IT IN'.

This is the sequel to You Invited It In. Fortunately, I went into this book straight after the first, so the story was still fresh, but it was nice to see the Author put a little recap of the first book at the start for those that had to wait in-between for this follow-up. I wish more Author's would do this.
The story begins a few months after we left off in book 1. Eli and Asher are trying to move on with their lives after all the events that have happened previously. However, after the video Lilith took on her phone gets exposed to the public, they are hounded by the media and online trolls.
Eli takes himself, Asher and Specs the dog to a rented house in the countryside to escape for a while. Something doesn't want them to leave, though, and follows them there to make its presence known once again.
I quite enjoyed this 2-book series; they were a nice easy read with plenty of creepy stuff going on. Moved along at a steady pace and kept me reading.
This is one of those I picked up on a whim and didn't really expect much, but ended up flying through both books in a few days. I'll definitely check out more of this Author's work.
An excellent sequel to "You Invited it In"! I went in blind, and read it in one sitting (same thing happened with the first book), captivated by the premise and excited by the execution. Although I didn't have a favorite character, I found the story absolutely riveting, especially its realistic portrayal of how one might actually deal with the supernatural when their loved ones are under threat - a threat of the kind noone really knows how to handle: a whole parade of so-called 'experts' are called upon to resolve the new haunting/demon/ghost issue, from paranormal investigators to priests, and the reactions are downright precious once they realize, one after the other, that in this case, the supernatural is REAL! And it's nothing to triffle with.
Jules takes matters on a whole new level this time: many more deaths, deeper mysteries, more complications, plenty more relentless attacks, even more sinister spectral apparitions, and a larger cast - whose interactions and brainstorming I appreciated far more than those in the first book (well, this time they know what's at stake if they fail!). Jules' writing has something deceptively cozy, lulling the reader into a false of security; this makes the twists hit harder, never missing their mark.
Recommend to all horror fans! Wildly entertaining and full of cool ideas!
Uncle Eli is trying to take care of Asher after the battle with the demon that ended with the death of his father, Felix and grandmother. Lilith the fake psychic is on trial for Felix’s murder. But when parapsychologist Emmanuel Stark releases the video of their battle with the demon proving life after death, Asher is thrust into the spotlight and danger. Asher, Eli and Specs the staffy hide out in an isolated holiday let but they are not alone.
Oh my! Do not plan on doing anything else when you start this, it is non stop from the start, a slow building dread that explodes into terror. It is the most incredible supernatural horror that will keep you enthralled until the last breathless paragraph.
There is the real life horror of grief and its emotional turmoil alongside the frenetic need to survive the demonic and hiding from the clamouring public fascinated by their story. And just so you know the dog is always fine in Sarah’s books and Specs is such a good boy!
There is an incredibly helpful recap of book one and this picks up where the first ends, read it, it is incredible!
You Need To Leave by Sarah Jules 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This is an excellent sequel to You Invited It In! This book continues 6 months after where book one left off, and there’s a recap at the beginning incase your memory has forgotten anything. 📖
Asher is trying to put his life back together after the horrors that occurred with his dad and the horrific video of what was done to him by a demon! His uncle Eli, is trying to be a parent to him in this very difficult time in both of their lives. Things do not settle down though for these two! This story is full of creep, spirits and demons… oh my! I love all of the paranormal activity and investigations. There’s lots of intensity and scares throughout!! As with all of Sarah’s books, this one is very well written and has great character development! I felt the family pain!
Thank you to Sarah Jules for an arc of this awesome and spooky book! *It’s out May 23rd!!! Make sure to check it out!* 👻😈😱👻😈😱
Thank you so much to Sarah for sending me an ARC of You Need To Leave.
The first thing I have to mention is the inclusion of a summary of the previous book (You Invited It In) at the beginning. I personally think every book should do this because some people (me) have trouble remembering events from earlier books. Yes, you could reread the previous ones, but sometimes it’s so nice to just dive straight in, and the summary really allows you to do that.
Now onto the story. WOW. I went through so many emotions reading this book, I was angry, frustrated, sad, literally all the emotions. It tackles themes like grief in such a raw and powerful way, and that feeling lingers throughout the entire book. I also don’t think I’ve ever hated a character as much as I hated one in this book. They were written so well, and you can tell Sarah knew exactly how she wanted them to come across and wow, did she deliver. I powered through this book just like I did with the first. I was completely hooked the entire time.
This book is the perfect addition to the 'You Invited It In' universe. It keeps up the momentum of the first, with the same disturbing, creepy, shocking moments, if anything, it goes even further.
I said 'You Invited It In' was the perfect intro to horror, and now anyone wanting to dip their toe into the genre has another brilliant book to add to their list. Sarah has such a talent for writing stories full of depth and emotion without overcomplicating anything. I highly recommend this book.
I've been eagerly awaiting this sequel since I finished reading the first book. It certainly didn't disappoint!
We pick up where we left off. The author does a good job with recapping at the start too. While I didn't love it as much as the first book, it still was full of creepy and haunting spirits and jumps galore, which I just love from a horror.
Brilliantly written as always and captivating and addictive especially towards the end! Horror lovers and paranormal ghost stories lovers will enjoy this one for sure.
Thank you to the author for providing a review copy.
You Invited It In was one of the creepiest, most tense books I read last year. I was deeply invested in the characters, and was thrilled to hear of a sequel. Because I care about the characters so much, the awful things that happen to them but that much harder. I also loved that the book allowed you to see the aftermath of what would happen to a family after experiencing what they did in the first book. 4.5 stars
You Need to Leave picks up 6 months after the events of You Invited It In, but I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read the first book yet. The Eastwoods continue to be plagued by demonic forces, so they enlist the help of parapsychologist Emmanuel Stark and paranormal investigator Mona Koestler. Sarah Jules does such a great job of creating characters you become attached to, where you can really feel their anger, fear, and grief and are invested in their lives. It had some really intense, creepy moments - I was on edge the entire time and turning on all the lights at night! Highly recommend picking this one up!
The sequel to "You Invited It In" is downright perfect. I couldn't have dreamed of a better continuation of the story of Ash and Eli. A heartbreaking, intense, creepy and scary story of trying to navigate around grief, while dealing with not only demons hunting them, but the whole world.
I can not say this with enough certainty - READ THIS BOOK! I mean read You Invited It In ( book 1 ) first THEN read this book.
I devoured the 1st book, I believe in under 48hrs ( and that’s just because I have a job and a kid that requires time 🙄 ) so when I finished You Invited it In I automatically pre-ordered You Need To Leave and in-patiently waited for it to be delivered to my kindle. You really never know quite what to expect when you love a original so much and the author announced a follow up to that book and I’m not going to lie and say there wasn’t a big part of me that was expecting to be let down with this one but thankfully Sarah Jules is a PHENOMENAL author and sucked me right back into the Eastwoods life and made me feel all the good feels you want when reading these types of stories. I love the weird, dark, demonic stories and Sarah makes sure you get allllll that plus the enjoyment of actually rooting for the protagonists to win this good vs evil plot.
Without spoiling anything, the realization of WHAT was “haunting” The Eastwoods in this story was amazingly heartbreaking. The new characters and getting to know some mentioned in You Invited It In was refreshing and fun. Reading Asher turn from this young kid with a SHIT TON of trauma battle this awful thing trying to ruin what was left of his family was rewarding- at least to me as a reader. I even have to comment on the fact that Eli being torn on how to be a parent to Ash while also dealing with his own pain was beautifully done.
The only comment I have that isn’t just full blown “this is perfection in book form” is the ending, I don’t know if it’s just because I wanted more information or if I’m just nit picking but the last few chapters did feel almost rushed? Nothing even close to breaking the book but I do feel it’s worth mentioning since we get the first 40-ish % of build up - then another 50% of bam! In your face battling the demons and that last 10% is just a quick “here’s the ending nearly splayed out”. Again it’s nothing that takes away from the book overall and I’m content with it as is but maybe just a small hint of “it’s over…or is it? 😈”
Overall I cannot wait to read more from Sarah Jules. If she keeps putting out horror books, I guarantee I will keep reading them & more than likely recommending them to anyone who will listen. I do not apologize for how many times I’ve recommended these books to my spooky reading groups & how sick to death my Book Club is of me requesting we read these books together so they can experience the world of the Eastwoods and their seriously bad luck with the spirit world. I can not recommend the books enough and I promise you You Need To Leave is going to suck you in and keep you invested from the very first chapter.
Let's start with a thank you to Sarah for letting me read this as an ARC. Sounds interesting to you? Well lucky for you, its out later next month, which means you have enough time to read the first one and then grab this too!
As it's book two, I won't dive too deep into this review to prevent any spoiler risks!
In the first book, there is a lot of chaos of speaking to the dead, what's real and what's not, possession etc... the second book leaves the characters picking up the pieces. Trying to live normally despite ongoing grief, trauma and now, making it all worse, the media is interested in what happened!! To make it ten times worse, whatever haunted them before, is not ready to stop messing with them.
The book starts off with a slow burn as we catch up with what the characters have been up to and how they're pushing forward. It's a very grey life for them. When the chaos kicks in, it's fast paced, creepy and gripping. I'm glad I didn't read this at night with the mention of shadow people!
I appreciate that throughout the scares, the urgency to survive, that Sarah still added in what felt like to me at least, realistic emotions and grief.
Plus there is a doggy companion! I know a lot of people hesitate with horror when animals are involved and I'm sure Sarah doesn't mind me saying this as she's always very public about it - the doggy is always okay!
It’s so nice to find an author whose work always hits for you and You Need To Leave definitely delivered.
Sarah recaps You Invited It In briefly but thoroughly before we get stuck in (however, if you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend you do!) and then we’re ready to see what’s going on six months after the events of YIII.
It feels so much more impossible to escape the horrors that are consuming the characters in this book and it also feels very timely regarding how far things can spread and how much of an impact that can make.
I don’t feel like I can say much without there being any spoilers so if you’re a fan of indie horror or tempted to give it a go, please pick these books up. I was reading it at any given moment, desperate to find out what was going to happen and I really enjoyed the story, though I can’t say that about all of the characters!
I am always eagerly awaiting Sarah’s next release because I truly love her style of writing so much - she pulls you in and the story just flows so well.
This sequel to You Invited It In, was even better than the first! I love a haunting story and this one had all the elements plus a well written emotional angle that keeps the reader glued to the pages.
Sarah Jules doesn’t give the reader any breathing space in this paranormal horror, with truly creepy scenes, an evil plot and so much grief! Although Specs remains my favourite character, I was happy to find again all the others and it was refreshing seeing new faces too. If you love hauntings, this delivers on all fronts, with actions page after page, emotions aplenty and a mystery that keeps you hooked with ease.
This sequel gave me major “The Conjuring” vibes, but I can easily say that this is even better as it feels real! I felt connected to Asher, Eli and Specs all the way, and I loved how Sarah managed to paint all that is wrong with today’s society when it comes to taking advantage of people’s pain and tragedy. In addition, there is another layer of sadness, which I won’t reveal, but just so you know it’s heartbreaking.
If you think that getting rid of demons is as easy as using some holy water or protection symbols, you haven’t dealt with what Eli, Asher and Specs have! Want to find out? I recommend reading first You Invited It In, although the author has a summary at the beginning of book 2, which I found very useful.
Thanks to the author for a copy and this is my honest opinion.
I loved the first one, it has lived rent free in my head since I finished it, then read it a few more times.
The sequel, they cant be as good, right? Wrong, I could not put this down.
I was so mad Emmanuel that I literally wanted to throw hands, I wanted to reach into this book and just shake him. What the hell is this guy thinking?? The video Lilith sent should have been horrifying enough, but he wants more??
And oh my heart Asher and hell Eli, dealing with this fall out, the media, and Lilith everything, and this guy just keeps on.
So what do you do? Escape for a little get away, but here is the thing, humans aren't the only ones after the family..
When I tell you this book had me in a death grip, I could not stop it once I started, and yes I have listened to it a few more times since, this is going on my list as one of those books, when you just want something amazing, I pull out to listen to.
Sarah Jules is on my must read list, I went and grabbed a bunch of her other stuff as well, but this, this series, has absolutely cemented me as a long time fan now.
Please give us more, and I don't even know what I mean by that, just more of whatever is in that brain of yours.
You Need to Leave picks up right where You Invited It In left off, and I really appreciated the quick recap at the start - it was a great refresher. The action kicks off immediately, and this poor family just can’t catch a break from all the hauntings and demons. Some familiar faces return, new ones are introduced, and the chemistry between characters feels really natural. You never know what's coming next, and I was constantly worried for the main characters. Big thanks to the author for the ARC!!
Releases May 23rd
A couple of additional thoughts: -I still feel bad for Craig -I need a book about Mr Smiley
First of all thank you Sarah for this arc copy of the book!
Secondly, I really loved the recap of the first book. Such a great little addition and I really wish more authors did this because I have a shocking memory and it helped massively!
And finally, what a great book! Had me gripped from the very beginning. So creepy and downright scary parts. Starts of subtlety but ramps up the action pretty quick. I liked the new characters that were introduced too. Sarah is very knowledgeable on various supernatural lore which was a bonus. All in all a great read and had me wishing for more books in this series. Although that would mean more terrorising of the Eastwood family which seems a little mean 😬
Wow wow wow wow. I had such a great time with You Need to Leave. I decided randomly one day to listen to the first book on audiobook and I was not disappointed! When I saw she was releasing a sequel to it I knew I had to read, and was lucky enough to be put on the ARC team!! This follow up was absolutely incredible. The twist was bananas. (B-a-n-a-n-a-s) and I am a slower reader and I just blew through this book so fast. Cannot wait to get a physical copy of this!
I liked this spooky, albeit unnecessary sequel but sadly nothing of substance happened until 70% in. There was a lot of suspense, mysterious shadows and messages on mirrors, but the good stuff only happened towards the end. I loved the 'previously on...' opener recap which was very helpful. Every book in a series should start with one. Also don't skip the authors hilarious note at the start of the book. I like her writing and will read more from this author.
Sarah Jules does it again. I waited with bated breath for this second book to come out, entirely invested on what would happen to our Eastwood family next.
The demons still made me uneasy after dark, and this book was best enjoyed next to the flickering shadows of my firepit as a spooky beginning to the fall season.
I look forward to seeing what this author comes up with next, they've got a lifelong fan in this reader.
Solid sequel! I enjoyed You Invited It In and have been excited for this one. You Need to Leave is a worthy sequel and if you liked the first, you’ll likely enjoy this one as well. It takes place shortly after the events of YIII and we again follow Uncle Eli, Asher and of course the goodest boy, Specs. To Sarah, I am so sorry for the loss of sweet Buster. He’s become eternal through your love as showcased via Specs and immortalized in your words. I definitely imagined a little white barrel rolling all over the place in YNtL.
In YNtL we follow the Eastwoods after a video from their previous paranormal experience is released. Eli, Ash and Specs head off to take a break from the social media storm but we quickly realize this won’t be an idyllic vacation.
I liked this one. Again, I really think if you liked YIII this will be a great read. I did struggle a bit ultimately feeling as though it was just more of the same as the first book. The plausibility was also difficult towards the end of YNtL. It’s well written, plenty of creepy scenes and I think most readers will really enjoy this one. It may be because I read them fairly close together, but this sequel didn’t captivate me the same major in which YIII did. Still a really solid demon/possession tale. If you enjoyed YIII, definitely give this one a go.
Thank you Sarah Jules for this book! I was so excited to return to this storyline and this book delivered just what I needed.
More creepy, more sinister and so much more back story- more than you're regular haunted house book and something that'll be sure to creep many other horror lovers out!
I enjoyed this sequel but not as much as the first book! You Need to Leave felt, to me, like it took longer to build to the climax. I was also disappointed at the passing of one of the main characters within the first few chapters of the book. The final sequence to the ending was amazing though, and I’m glad I read this one as well. Definitely interested in reading more from this author!
2.5 stars. Let me firstly say that I have adored all of Sarah’s other books and I was eagerly anticipating reading ‘You need to leave’, the sequel to ‘You invited it in’ which was packed full of action from the start.
I wanted to be honest with my thoughts: overall, I found it a bit of a slow burn, and to be fair, that style just isn’t really my thing. I tend to connect more with horror that grabs you quickly or builds intensity a bit faster. That’s more a personal taste issue than a criticism of Sarah’s writing.
That said, there were definitely some eerie moments that stuck with me, and I thought the atmosphere was solid. Sarah clearly has a knack for creating unsettling imagery and a sense of dread. I think for readers who enjoy a slow, creeping build, this would work better. For me, it felt like it took a while to get going, and I struggled a bit to stay fully invested early on.
The last third of the book really picked up and had some genuinely creepy and gory moments, but I just don’t think this one was for me.
Just finished my ARC of You Need to Leave by Sarah Jules. It’s a sequel to You Invited it In.
Jules continues the story from her first book masterfully. Taking the terry she already fostered with the haunted family and turning it up another level. This haunting felt fresh and earned as the story reveals its true origins.
The characters are believable and you hurt for/with them and find yourself wishing under your breath that they make it out ok.
I was thrilled to get my hands on a copy before release and urge you all to go preorder this now. What are you still doing here? YOU NEED TO LEAVE!!
Oh wow, you know you're in for quite a ride when what I've quoted above is the last thing the author says in her introduction before diving into the actual story. And sure enough, Sarah Jules' "You Need To Leave" delivers on this sentiment quite well indeed! This is, of course, the follow-up to her incredibly spooky offer "You Invited It In", which was literally one of the first times a legitimate ghost story (let's not quibble too long on the identity of the actual entities we meet, okay?) had me spooked out of my melon. But both of these books are of the delicious sort that will have you double-checking under your bed and potentially even sleeping with the lights on for the next fortnight or so. What happened to people who were victims of demons?
YNTL picks up right were YIII left off, that is, after poor Asher's father and Nanna have both perished as a result of the accidental haunting of their home. Asher of course is a young teenager who has "faced evil that most human beings would never believe existed." That unfortunately includes both supernatural and human influences this time as the video of his previous torture quickly goes viral. And though things in terms of the evil have changed somewhat - I don't want to give away too many spoilers obviously - the reach of the "infestation" from last time is still extremely powerful in this story. Oh and by infestation, as Eli would no doubt be pointing out quite forcibly right now, I do not mean bed bugs. No, the diabolical presence of Nicolas Damont - the centuries old cannibal, pedophile and murderer - still haunts our world in ways that can only be described as inconceivably horrific. The world isn’t ready to believe that demons exist.
And though we are constantly forced back on our heels in this story, it's obviously not easy to follow up such a forceful horrorfest as the previous gruesome and often gory tale. I almost want to say that the element of "surprise" wasn't as strong this time around, but in many ways, it was more that the reprecussions NOW of what happened THEN - which not only has left our cast in debilitating states of grief but even ruined their ability to exist as private citizens - more than make up for this. There is a different feeling for sure - Eli is after all not the same man that Felix was and we definitely miss the presence of others, too - but the dread remains as thick as ever, particularly once we learn that the "reach" if you will stretches from Asher, Eli, and Specs home to the prison where Lilith is being held. In short text: no one is safe. You should have left when you were told.
It is frustrating, not only for the cast but the reader, too, in many ways that now we have not only so much outside interference but also at least what should have worked out to be assistance. Granted, that winds up being the same people sometimes but you'd think that someone would eventually have been a little more help. It's no wonder that both Eli and Asher lose more and more sleep as we progress. Even the damn church - oops, I mean The Damn Church - never got around to doing anything of consequence, though I was a bit pleased to know that when someone did finally show up, everyone had abandoned ship. Or been rushed to the hospital as was necessary. I don’t understand why this happened to me.
Finally, as I know many readers need to know, once again the dog is NOT hurt in all this and more than winds up deserving a life-time supply of pig ears to gnaw on as a result. Specs is a key part of the entire battle - and that describes it about as best as I can - and it doesn't take the parent of a doggo to realize that! I was also thrilled to know that there's a great reference for this kind of concern "out there", found at https://www.doesthedogdie.com/! So enjoy the terror, grit your teeth at the gruesomeness, and give your own furry babies an extra scratch behind the ears. After all, that spot they're staring at? It just may be something you want to avoid in any way possible! With death came knowledge.
My thanks to the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
