Do not fear the shadows, but what lives inside them.
A thousand years have passed since the last Blood Tide, when the goddess Narcissi Herself fought to defend humankind from certain extermination by an ancient enemy. But when She failed during the final battle, She was forced to retreat into the safety of Lostwood's shadows, never to appear again. Legend has it She planted Herself in the earth, allowing the forest to grow around Her. Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, the goddess is now defended by her army of Sightless, Guardians, and Protectors. Collectively, they call themselves the Forsworn.

Soulsworn is out TODAY on Kindle! This is the 4th book in my new Forsworn series. For those who have read Fatemarked and/or Kingfall, this series is set in a different part of the same world, but includes cameos by some characters, and also features a character from Kingfall who we met right at the end of the series when she was just a child (Hint: now she's all grown up). If you love sprawling epic fantasy adventures with magic and dragons, heroes and villains and (possibly) the end of the world, then this series is perfect for you to sink your teeth into.
ENJOY!
Fun tidbit: I look forward to hearing what you think of the "thirstkins".
Suffice it to say David’s done it again with another epic fantasy in his Forsworn series. I just finished beta reading Soulsworn and it might be my favorite of the 4 books he’s written so far in this series.
I’ve been a huge fan of David Estes ever since I read his scifi dystopian book The Moon Dwellers years ago. And then he started writing his epic fantasy series starting with the Fatemarked books. I’ve read everything he’s written to date, in several different genres, but I really think that high fantasy is what he really excels at.
I know David is a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, and it shows as his love of the genre is showcased in first his Fatemarked series, then in his Kingfall series, and now in his Forsworn books. All of these epic series are set in the same world but in different areas of the world. Every once in a while, an earlier character will show up in his new world and I’m always so thrilled to see an old friend.
Also, David writes banter like no one else. I was up cackling at midnight one night because a side character was HILARIOUS. And his critters and monsters are insane!
If you enjoy epic high fantasy and haven’t picked up any of David’s books yet, what are you waiting for? Go forth and read! You WILL enjoy. Trust me!
The deep red waters have reached the southern shores of Finfalla, a millennia has passed and death rises from the sea…the Blood Tide has arrived! Welcome to Estes set up for the final stand our hero's face…Book 4 “Soulsworn” in David's newest Epic, “The Foresworn Oath” is a jammed pack chonker that promises nothing less than deception, death, pain and rage. ☠️
Well into the late stages of this Saga now, Estes continues his masterful mix of many POV’s and ever growing world building, as we race towards the Epic's grand finale. As far as story pacing (action / character lore), this entry leans more towards the background and lore side of things. Slowing down a tad from our last book, David does a fantastic job building the individual character stories of each POV, and lays the groundwork for the how and why, each of the trials and paths our heroes and villains are currently on. This was sometimes a bit tedious imo, but not off-putting. Towards the last quarter of the book, I started to see why we got so much of the individual character arcs and lore throughout this entry…building a solid, well-rounded, complete vision of the path that must be taken, to survive the task laid before our hero's…and prophesized by the Gods! Worry not my adrenaline junkies, David spices this platter of destruction with plenty of tense action, and mind bending magic! Introducing us to new lands, monsters, traps and torment, David manages to mix in personal growth, new alliances, power and hope…all blending together into what was an unseen story of love! It found its way into every aspect of this book and yes, it just fit! From everyone's favorites, Brony and Ludo…to my newest obsession Moona, a series of joy, pain, love and searing hatred, propel them and our story through intense chapters of loss and anguish, as well as lust and vengeance. What a beautifully brutal web you've spun David! 👏
With one book to go, we are sure to be swimming in waters that aim to destroy our hearts and souls. How much of what was believed to be right…is actually a deadly game, concocted by those with the power to protect?! Can the perseverance and determination of the Foresworn, unravel the truth behind this possible betrayal? And will the preparation of our Godsblood powered hero's be enough to stop the Blood Tide before it drowns the land in death!? 🫣
4.5⭐ for this bloody wave of turmoil and torment! Make sure you read the Postludes at the end of this book…quite possibly the best of the series so far, and will have you looking at this Saga in a whole new light! One things for sure in these times for David and this explosive Epic …to quote our author,
“The final battle will be brutal and bloody and violent beyond measure.” 🔥
David Estes has done it again. Despite one of the characters completely annoying me with her naivety and innocence and tendency to trust and believe beings that she shouldn't.
The other characters are all strongly written, both main characters and supporting. Plenty of action, quite a lot of treachery, and even the "good guys" have a tendency to be subversive in some of their actions, keeping their co-stars and the reader guessing.
The plot moves along, not always in the direction l may have suspected and l look forward to finale, assuming it will be a 5 book series.
I’ve read David Estes Kingfall series and Fatemarked series and really enjoy his writing. I like the way some of the characters in both series have “cameos” in the next series, a nice continuity of the world of Onore. The only thing I don’t like in the Forsworn Oath series is Perfidy’s dialect, for me it’s too unrealistic and hard to follow. Otherwise I’m really enjoying the series and may go back and read the other series again as well as check out his other books.
A bit of a slow burn at first but then it really picks up! Such great character development. Deals with big issues that you don't often see in fantasy novels. Lots of fun Easter Eggs. I can't wait until Bloodsworn releases!
