Berhanu Aberra Tadesse's "True Light: A Journey from Darkness to Redemption" is a fascinating book. Part memoir, part spiritual direction, part journey, Tadesse covers ideas and principles in ways I'm not used to reading in nonfiction. He integrates numerous passages of Scripture before and after his own writing and experiences.

Some of my favorite themes that Tadesse discusses are the Kingdom of God, submission to the Holy Spirit and inviting Him to work in us (though Tadesse doesn't use the work "submission"), Jesus's character (meek and lowly, humble, yet God's very Son). An important idea that's communicated is that the Holy Spirit will never demand His own way, but will wait to be invited to do His work in us. How vital it is that we don't quench Him, after all.

I so valued Tadesse's words on the Holy Spirit. They were an important encouragement in my own life, and definitely something I want to remember.

There were some ideas that Tadesse discussed that I haven't quite gotten my mind around, like "duality." I think I just need to spend a little more time pondering them, as the first mention of them didn't quite get through my mind.

This was a valuable read and I'm glad I spent the time on it that I did.

True Light is an enlightening book that offers insight into the truth of God. It explains how to live life to the fullest. He reminds us how Jesus Christ is the true guiding light for the world. I was impressed with Berhanu's own struggle. It gives us hope and inspiration for inner peace, self-awareness, and a deeper connection with God.

For those who follow Christ, it is a reminder of Christ's sacrifice to redeem us all. For those who don't know Christ personally, it's a reminder of a road map to freedom and everlasting life. Learn to leave the darkness behind and have redemption through Christ's mercy and love.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

True Light is a unique and powerful spiritual-growth book, though I struggled through some of it because it delves so deep. This isn’t a light read or one to scan, but one to purposely examine with an open and absorbent heart.

I especially appreciate how the book showcases how ‘Walking in Love is Walking in Light' and ‘Humility vs Pride’. The Walking in Love section is brief but truly spoke to me. The section on humility and pride plunges much deeper and touched and inspired me in new, bold ways.

The questions near the back of the book provide important answers, especially what Salvation is and how our surrender brings on the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
