The problem with dating the sun is you will inevitably get burned. Everything is bright and warm and beautiful, until you're blind and groping in the dark. And then you remember: this is how I'm going to die. Broken. Desperate. Choking on the last breath of stale air.
As Sage and the city of Skau emerge from the deluge, law and order prove difficult to re-establish. The House of Hope is demanding compensation, the Principalities are wary of future attacks and where is Pharaoh?
With a new Prince in need of training and a Vizier fast losing control of his powers, the Firmament is forced to return to the Vault to regroup. While Sage struggles to master her new gifts, Ciaran searches for a way to renew access to Pharaoh. Unsavoury alliances with the remnants of the House of Hope may offer a solution, but at what cost?
4.5⭐️ The second book in The Principalities Trilogy, and such a great book! We continue on from where we left in book one. Sage needs to learn all about her new station in life and about the powers that come with that, and help the people relying on her.
Another incredible journey into the Principalities series by Seeley Lynde!
This sweeping series really does demand your attention and for the books to be read in order.
The interlocking puzzle pieces of story and characters have been coming together over the course of the books we've had so far, and there's still quite a bit to discover.
I love the elemental magic in this series and how the story and lore draw elements from Egyptian mythology. It's really refreshing to see something different in modern fantasies.
I also love the political elements and just getting to know the characters more. Excited to read the next book in June and see where how the series continues!
Thank you to Seeley Lynde, Netherwood Press and BookFunnel for giving me an E-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Palace of Wrath Book 2 in the Principalities Series by Seeley Lynde! 4.5⭐️ Found family Multiple POV Egyptian Mythology Plot twists Jealous MMC Elemental Magic What a journey book 2 has taken us on, we continue the story where we left off, Sage our FMC is learning how to get along in her new normal! The cliffhanger this leaves you on…. I need book 3 now please! Thank you to Seeley and BookFunnel for the opportunity to read this book in advance for a real and honest review!
The second book in the series sure did not disappoint. Got to learn more about some of the characters that were mentioned in the first book and how they are linked.
I am really enjoying the journey this series is taking me on and already excited to see what will happen in the next book.. the cliff hanger has got me wanting it Now!
4.5⭐️ ARC Review omg so many things I was not expecting!!!! Wow I just love this series!!! A great sequel to this story! I loved seeing Sage grow into her power and find her place in the firmament. I love her romance and friendships! The way the story ends up connecting is not something I would have been able to come up with, so so cool! I love this world and the magic. I love the multiple pov so you really get to know each character. I am soooooo excited for the next book it can’t come fast enough!!!
✨Tropes✨ ⚔️Found Family ⚔️Multiple POVs ⚔️ *Not a dog* Ghost Dog ⚔️Betrayal ⚔️Meddlesome Gods/Godesses ⚔️Hidden Identities Revealed
✨Initial Thoughts✨ This series has had me in a chokehold. I read this book as slowly as possible because I wanted to savor it, much like a fine wine. There are many POVs in this epic, high fantasy and yet I grew much more attached to each and every one of them. Plus, I enjoyed every single one of their chapters. It’s rare to find that in a book, let alone a series. This series is masterfully created and I loved every page. Seeley Lynde has a gift for story telling and world building.
I don’t want to give anything away, but the book starts out with the members of the Firmament (plus Fern and Wren) going to their home, The Vault. The Vault seems perfect and while the Vault isn’t sentient, it does provide for everyone’s individual needs. For a little while, things are good. Things heat up between Sage and Ciaran and, for the most part, everyone gets along. We learn more about some of the characters’ backstories, and you really get to know and love the different members of the Firmament. Unfortunately, poor Skadus is growing more uncontrolled with his expanding powers and Ciaran makes a devastating decision that will displace the group.
This book focuses a lot on character development, but there is plenty of juicy plot to keep moving forward. The last 100 or so pages is explosive (literally) and I loved it. Ciaran’s powers are even more badass than I originally thought. So hot. I enjoyed this book so much and trust me, you need to read this series.
✨Pros✨ * The character development was top notch. I care about each and every character. * Sage continues to be one of the least annoying FMCs I’ve ever read and I’m so grateful for that. * Skadus! I love Skadus. He is beautifully complicated and I want nothing but the best for him. Baby needs Skadus (and vice versa). * I love the new additions to the various gods and goddesses. I was obsessed with Egyptian mythology when I was young and to see familiar names was so much fun! Those gods are way more meddlesome than previously thought. Loved that element. * The ending!! OMG! I NEED the next book now!! I won’t be able to stop thinking about it!
✨Cons✨ * This isn’t a real ‘con’ necessarily. I just want to comment that, though Ciaran royally screws up in this book, I still have such a soft spot for him. Call me crazy, but I really do like Ciaran and even though what he did was stupid and short sighted, it was done with partially good intentions. I truly hope we’re going to see some redemption for my man in the next book. I believe he will make it right for the group and for Sage.
✨Favorite Quotes✨ “Why did so many of the dreams of men amount to little more than fear and loathing?” Page 305
Thank you to Seeley Lynde for the gifted copy and the opportunity to review this book.
The Principalities series is not one you can dip into—it demands to be read in order, and trust me, you want to. Where Palace of Disorder set the stage (and tortured us with a slow-burn romance), Palace of Wrath cracks your chest open and crushes your heart. And we book lovers live for that exquisite kind of pain.
Told through multiple perspectives—Lorcan, Ciaran, Memphis, Sage, Gray, Skadus, Satya, Aira, Fern, Wren, Adreanna, Araysh and more—this sweeping saga is rich, immersive, and emotionally brutal. The love and affinity you feel for this chosen family of friends will be decimated as this tale unfolds. I adored every second, even as it left me feeling wrecked.
Who knew I’d been waiting for a fantasy/mythology series about Ancient Egypt?!
“The problem with dating the sun is you will inevitably get burned. Everything is bright and warm and beautiful, until you’re blind and groping in the dark. And then you remember: this is how I’m going to die. Broken. Desperate. Choking on the last breath of stale air.”
The story picks up as Sage and the city of Skau struggle to recover from the deluge. Law and order are fragile, the House of Hope demands retribution, and the Principalities are on edge—while Pharaoh remains missing.
A new Prince must be trained, a Vizier is losing his grip on power, and the Firmament is forced back to the Vault to regroup. Sage battles to control her gifts, while Ciaran seeks a way to reconnect with Pharaoh. But forming alliances with the remnants of the House of Hope is a dangerous gamble.
How does one serve in the shadow of the gods?
This series is lush, gripping, and devastating in all the best ways. If you love high-stakes political intrigue, mythology infused with magic, and characters who break you apart, The Principalities belongs on your TBR.
Huge thanks to Seeley Lynde, Book Funnel, and Netherwood Press for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I am speechless after finishing Palace of Wrath! This was a really great way to dive deeper into the world and get some answers I had from book 1!
So much happened in this book, and I can't even lie, I was brought to tears, distraught, wondering how we were going to move forward at one point! But man oh man, how the story turned!
I want to keep this as a spoiler free review so I'll just say, everything is not as it seems. Sage is finding answers to questions she didn't even think to ask. The firmament will not be the same after this.
Ciaran is figuring out how to share power and find balance within himself, and Skadus is just as sassy as ever. I'm so excited about seeing more of all of the firmaments powers and getting to know them on a deeper level. It's so interesting to see how the politics work in this world with the gods being involved how they are.
I love that even though shit gets real in this book, we still see Sage's humor bleed through her character, even at inappropriate times. It's just so her and I love that her character development is well underway! I cannot wait to see what the next book brings because I am dangling off a cliff here after that ending! 😮💨😮💨
Ms Lynde has done it again with another incredible instalment in this story.
Okay, so I have been obsessing over this book since I finished it (thank you to the author for the arc!!) and I cannot find a singular fault. Every moment that I start to question slightly is answered and set up beautifully in the book. The FMC is one of my top 5 FMC’s, she is strong and self assured and honestly I aspire to be like her. There are several points throughout the book where other FMCs may have been depicted as fawning and bowing to their male counterparts but she does not, and it’s a natural progression, I would not expect anything different from her. She encompasses a badass in every way. It’s also quite subtle at times, in ways that perhaps don’t speak to high fantasy but instead to real life, which is difficult to pull off. I love the way Ms Lynde writes her characters. The characters are true found family and the dynamics are wonderful, when do I get to join!!! I love how the author nods to different aspects of personality based on audience, each character is fully fleshed out. There is even a character who embodies us as the audience! Her wit and absolute wtf moments are perfectly in tune with what I was feeling at those points. If I’d been told about such a thing I may have worried about that pulling me out of the story, but actually found that it enveloped me further into the world, as I found someone to share the “wait what” moments with, I also just generally love this character for her sass. The world building in this book continued on from the first seamlessly, with little reminders about the immediate surroundings, before moving on and expanding our perspective. It was entirely consistent throughout the two books as well, which can be hard to achieve.
“Was she scared for me, or of me? Always the latter. It always won, in the end. Perhaps my darkest secret was my fear that it always would. That there would never be someone who looked at me and loved me not despite their fear, but more than it.“
This is an arc review and this book releases March 20th.
This is the second book in the Principalities series which continues the journey of Sage and the city of Skau as they emerge from the chaos at the ending of book one. Rebuilding law and order proves challenging, with the House of Hope demanding compensation, the Principalities wary of future threats, Pharaoh still missing and Sage struggling to master her newfound powers.
I loved book one and was so thrilled to receive a physical arc of this - it has elemental magic, found family, political intrigue, and all the Egyptian lore and mythology that made me fall in love with the series. I loved book how complex the characters are and how many POVs and storylines we get. Once again I found this unique and a different take on fantasy and the cliffhanger will have you on the edge of your seat.
Yes Yes Yes!!! I was so excited to jump back into this world!! I honestly can not recommend this series more. Written from multiple pov, you grow connections with most of the characters. I had so many questions from book 1 and yes most of them were answered however the author replaces one solved mystery with lots of WTF moments that's have blown my mind and now I am begging for book 3!!
✨️ Multiple POV ✨️ Vivid World Building ✨️ meddelsome gods ✨️ Jealousy ✨️ Egyptian Mythology
We are introduced to the Vault, where sage will spend time figuring out how to hone her abilities while forming bonds with other members of her Palace. Of course, these bonds start to ignite some jealousy with Carrion and the twist that hit you deliver all the feels. If you like your fanatsy books to make you gasp loudly, Swipe back and forth between pages to check you didn't miss something and then leave you feeling all the emotions that are humanly possible to feel, then I suggest you get onto this series asap!!
Thank you, Seeley, for creating this world that i never knew I needed, and now I never want to leave it!!
Book two in The Principalities dis not disappoint. Often, when book one is so good and generally all consuming, I find book two just doesn't stand up. This is absolutely NOT the case here. Book two holds its own and even exceeds in some regards.
Disorder set up the main romance as a slow burn, which finally peaks early in Wrath. We also get a ton more back story on the majority of the characters, which we were scratching the surface of in book one.
The plot picks up after the epic conclusion of Disorder. Sage is learning control and what her new role as prince means. Meanwhile, Pharoh remains absent, and everyone is tired of sitting around waiting for him to appear. They start to investigate his absence and learn its more than what it appears to be. There is so much more to learn about, and I can not wait for book three. The way this book ended had me absolutely desperate for more.
I'm extremely grateful to Seeley for including me on her ARC team once again and sending me a copy of the book to read in advance!
*Palace of Wrath* completely blew me away! I had to take a break before writing this review just to gather my thoughts because it completely wrecked me (in the best way possible).
This book is everything you could want in a sequel—epic, emotional, and full of twists I didn’t see coming. Diving back into the world of Skau felt like reuniting with old friends. The characters have grown so much, especially Sage, who's navigating her new powers and responsibilities with such depth. The intertwining of ancient Egyptian mythology adds a unique flair that's both refreshing and immersive. The world-building just gets deeper and richer, and the way the tension builds between the politics and the personal drama kept me hooked the entire time. The political intrigue and the dynamics within the Firmament kept me on my toes. And that cliffhanger!? I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment!
If you loved the first book, this one will steal your heart and make you crave more! I seriously can't wait to see where this series goes next!
This was an incredible continuation of the adventure through a world of Egyptian mythology. First things first: If you missed the start of this journey first go check out Palace of Disorder it will definitely be necessary to understand the intricacies of this phenomenal world and characters.
… mild spoilers ahead consider yourself warned … I’ve barely been able to process it all but here are my first impressions. If you're a lover of fantasy and adventure then you'll devour this story of the quick witted Sage as she finds her feet as new Prince of the firmament. The interweaving of characters & storylines Told in multiple POVs brings it all to life beautifully. Action packed on every page with some fantastic twists and turns that will rip your heart out! I'm gripped & intrigued and cannot wait to see what happens next in Palace of Reveries. Thank you thank you thank you to local Aussie author for the amazing opportunity to enjoy an advance copy this phenomenal book and second instalment of the Principalities series! I am confident the book world is going to fall into a new obsession in this fantasy fandom!!
Palace of Wrath is the second book in The Principalities series. It is a great continuation from book one (Palace Of Disorder). Like with book one, the author does some extensive world building and character development. There are a lot of character's and POVs, but they all are important to the story. At around that 50% mark when the pace picks up, the pay off is that much sweeter for the author having developed such rich and in depth world.
This story has romance, betrayal, friendships, epic battle scenes, found family, elemental magic.
I especially love the relationship our FMC Sage has with her best friend and her sister. These women are all able to have a laugh with each other whilst also holding their own when it comes to some of the men in this story.
There are some amazing twists and turns in this book, the ending has me desperate again for the next book in the series!
Palace of Wrath is the second book in the principalities series and GURLLLLL!!! This book had me at the edge of my seat the ENTIRE BOOK. The subtle hints and foreshadowing had me sooooo nervous and afraid for these characters. I thought it was going to go one way but per usual it went another way completely! And don’t get me started on the CLIFFHANGER…. Its a DOOZY Y’ALL.
I loved Sage before, but Sage in this book was sooooo good! We love a fierce and capable FMC who takes NO SHITS from anyone…including her mans… which Ciaran.. is in the dog-house with me too. I loved him in the first one, but I was MORE than frustrated with him in the second book. I think it was a beautiful (*eye twitch*) representation and reminder that people are flawed and sometimes lead with their “sins” and insecurities/fears.
2 books in and I don’t have a favorite… they’re all so amazing and hilarious! I can’t wait to see where this goes.
Brb gonna go cry (again) 😢 I'm not a crier while reading, in fact my face stays emotionless apart from the occasional giggle. But Palace of Wrath had my eyes wide, my mouth downturned and tears leaking from my eyes at multiple points. I was feeling all the emotions as I turned the pages and I could not stop thinking about this book when I wasn't reading.
The writing is so well done, both to make me feel all the emotions but it is also beautiful with the gorgeous imagery it provokes.
I cannot wait for book 3 so I can see what happens to the character I became extremely attached to (unnamed bc spoilers), as well as Baby (not-a-dog!) and the rest of the cast (some of whom deserve a slowwww death).
This review is all my own feelings and opinions, and I am so thankful to Seeley for gifting me an ARC copy for me to cry over before release.
PLEASE read this series so we can be emotional together
Palace of Disorder was my introduction to this Indie author and I am so glad I stumbled across it in my search for an ancient Egypt themed fantasy book. I can not believe I was chosen to receive a physical ARC of this book and I’m still so so thankful and will treasure this forever.
I will forever be an ancient Egypt girly and this book did not disappoint. I love the writing in these books and how we get pieces of each character and how everything is webbed together and you can click things into place. I loved watching the FMC’s character development. This book is complex, and intricate, and keeps you on your toes.
I love this series world building, the characters (and I mean every single one), the plot(anxiety), all of the descriptions of this world (magic, buildings, characters)
Beautifully constructed and written book and I am so excited to see what happens in the next book 🫶🏽
Palace of Wrath by Seeley Lynde is the second book in The Principles series, and the author did a good job at bringing the loose ends of book 1, Palace of Disorder, together. I was thrilled to see the characters and their positions listed in the beginning of this book! It made this book easier to follow than book 1.
You’ll enjoy this if you like -Found family, -Heritage twists, -Egyptian Mythology, -Magic, -Jealous MMC, -Sibling bonds
Feedback/improvement areas
-Personally, I find the romance between Sage and Ciaran lacking. They felt very insta-love in book 1 and that has continued in book 2. I feel like these two characters are supposed to be the MMC and FMC, but they fall a little flat in scenes together.
-Too many POVs in close quarters. Multiple POVs can be used to give information to the reader that your characters aren’t privy to but double digit POVs is a bit of an overload.
-Characters often make light of life and death situations with humor such as winks or “who cares” attitudes. Sometimes it is welcomed but too much of it takes away from the tension and lowers the stakes.
Favorites - I enjoyed the world created in these pages; especially, how the rooms of the Vault would morph to match the personalities and preference of the room owner. Such a cool concept.
- Skadus and Satya are by far my favorite characters. I love their sibling bond and their commitment to each other. Satya has had Skadus’s back since day one and gave up everything for what he thought was right—for the protection of one he deemed brother.
- The ending of part 1 broke my heart and those pieces shattered as the book progressed. Skadus is written so well. His depth, his despair envelops the reader. I must give kudos to Seeley because I don’t tear up often.
- Baby of course!
- Quote/scene that made me laugh the hardest “It looks like it wants to eat your face.”
Thank you, Seeley Lynde, for an ARC for an honest review! I look forward to book 3 <3
3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. Book 2 in the Principalities series, and picks up right where book 1 left off. TL;DR should you read this? Yes!
—
Do I have thoughts about book 2? You bet. Does this review sound like I hated it? Maybe. But. Not the case! I liked it!
First off, did I enjoy this book? Yes! Is it too long…maybe. It felt like filler apart from a bit in the middle (iykyk) and the end. The plot twists keep twisting, and the foreshadowing is doing its thing.
Ciaran, you beautiful dumbass. So pretty. So stupid. Fern, you are obnoxious. The Havardr brothers just need a hug. Sage…the saga continues. I like her, don’t get me wrong. But hey, we’re riding the flawed character train where they build their own redemption arcs. We’re getting there. I hope.
I love this old Egyptian world so much. It’s so cool how we get chapters from all the different characters too. You feel closer to them and learn way more I feel… This is book two in the series. And we find Sage and her crew trying to rebuild after the last book. Poor Skadus is losing more control everyday so they go back home to the firmaments palace aka the vault. I loved seeing relationships grow between everyone. Especially the night court crew. The vault is the coolest building ever. But that ending and those surprises… wow.. so so so much happened the last few chapters. I cannot wait to see where they go from here.
Release date is the 20th of March! I recommend grabbing this book the moment it releases. This series is not one you can just read abit of, you need your whole self involved as it switches between multiple POVs and has so many twists and turns it can make your head spin! I loved every second of reading these books and cannot stress how amazing a series it is. If you like Ancient Egyptian mythology even better as there are so many parts of this book that make me want to go and research more on the mythology used in it! I am so excited for the next ones release and will now forever be a huge supporter of this fabulous author!
4.5⭐ The way I am invested in every one of these characters. This series has me wanting more and more!
Seeley Lynde is the master of multi-POV. Not everyone can pull this off, especially with the vast character pool in this series but Seeley does it flawlessly. My attachment to the characters, their personalities and their stories is so strong and I cannot wait for the next book so I can dive right back into their lives.
This series brings epic fantasy to new heights and I think it is a must read for any fantasy lover.
I thank the author for the eARC. The Principalities Series is a refreshing change in the Romantasy world. Set in Egypt with cultural and diety references. Unique magic system. This book follows Sage in her journey with her new gifts and responsibilities. Her character really grows. Multiple POVs, politics, suspense, romance.
Sage is adjusting to her new role and dynamics of the Firament. This book is a bit more character focused vs plot, I like that we’re still learning more about the characters. There were a couple of things that threw me. Can’t wait for book 3! Also this was an eARC- thank you!!
Such a great series! Some middle books in a trilogy seem like jogging, saving all the action for the book 3 finale. Not in this case. Here we have the story continue to build and change, with plenty of surprises. Can't wait to see what's coming!
I did not want to stop reading. Having read (and loved) the first in this series I was hopeful to love the 2nd book as well. What can I say but there is no 2nd book hangover. Fern and the rest of the characters continue to grow, we get to know them better AND we meet some new friends that have amazing new powers. Once again that this book is based in Anciet Egyptian mythology and also giving me amazing relationships and characters just rocked my world. Their powers are something to behold. The writing was fabulous, plenty of detail, depth and world building at the right time. I am kept guessing but not floundering. Plus, despite the number of characters, the first person narrative is easy to follow as each character is speaking within their own chapter. So happy to have been able to read this for the author and I'm hanging out for book 3.
Book 2 of the captivating fantasy series and it exceeds all expectations. We return to the enigmatic Palace of Firmament. Sage Woods, the newly crowned night prince, grapples with her burgeoning powers while navigating her newfound role. But it's not just Sage facing the storm of change--her vizier is dangerously teetering on the brink of overwhelming power and the day prince, Ciaran wrestles with finding a way to Pharaoh. Not all is well in Ma'at Seth.
The multiple POV's provide a rich tapestry of Ma'at Seth and the complex character dynamics. The bonds of this found family are everything: complex, flawed and above-all authentic. Seeley has crafted one of the best representations of the found family trope I've ever read. These characters are far from idealised perfection: beautifully flawed, brimming with insecurities, yet capable of spouting prose of love (Ahem! Ciaran). I adore how this family squabbles and rile each other like cats and dogs, yet rally together when it truly matters. They make sacrifices for each other, almost to a fault.
The twists! Y'all Holy hell, I almost dropped my e-reader on my face1 That is all I will say! You must read this series if you haven't already added it to your TBR!
