Montgomery Ink #8

Inked Memories

Rate this book
The Montgomery Ink series by NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan continues when the final Denver Montgomery sibling refuses to fall for his brother's former flame-the company's new plumber. Wes Montgomery watched his entire family fall in love, and now finds himself ready to settle down. Except the one person he seems to find chemistry with is not only his twin's ex, she also works for Montgomery Inc. But when the two find themselves in one compromising situation after another, Wes realizes he's having second thoughts about the dynamic woman who's burst her way into his life. Sure she sets off his temper, but she also makes him hot in every other way possible. Jillian Reid never loved her best friend like everyone thought she should, so she pushed him away so he could have his future. Now, despite fighting it, she finds herself attracted to the one man she shouldn't. When her father's health takes a turn for the worse, and a danger no one saw coming show its face, she's forced to turn to Wes for help. The two of them have fought off their attraction long enough, and each cave to the desire. But this enemies-to-lovers tale might have an ending no one ever dreamed of.

I've loved this series from the beginning and all of these characters have captured my heart in their own books. Being the last story in the Montgomery Ink series maybe I put a little too much pressure on it, but I just didn't love this one like I did the others.

Wes and Jillian are both characters that we've seen in previous books, Wes because he's a Montgomery and Jillian because she's the ex-friends-with-benefits of Storm Montgomery. Knowing that their story was coming got me really excited and I couldn't wait to see their push-pull type of chemistry. But I felt like we never actually got to see a connection between them and instead there was a lot of story with little romance.

The beginning seemed to take forever to actually get to Wes and Jillian together and instead seemed to focus on each of them separately. So when we did get to finally see those parts with them together it then moved a little too fast for my liking. I did like the overall story, but I think I was just a little disappointed that it didn't have a lot of romance in it.

Overall, this wasn't my favorite from the Montgomery Ink series but I thought it was a nice ending to this family. It brought everything to a close in a good way without being too pushy in trying to catch readers up on the past characters.

Carrie Ann Ryan wraps up the Denver Montgomery family saga in Inked Memories quite nicely. Wes has always been the problem solver, the voice of reason, the fixer for his family but the one thing he hasn’t managed is finding someone to spend his own life with and the one woman he desires is Jillian who should be the last person he wants due to the friends with benefits relationship she shared with his twin, but there is something about her that calls to him and if the passionate way they verbally spar with one another is any indication, that fine line between love and hate is about to be crossed.

I’ll admit I thought this would be a strange pairing given Jillian’s past relationship with Wes’ twin and the fact that she is still Storm’s best friend, but somehow they worked. Both dedicated to their jobs and families, they were somewhat kindred spirits and as this book unfolds it is hard to deny the passion, respect, and admiration they have for one another. Family tragedies, and a jobsite attack have them both realizing their feelings are growing and figuring out a way to deal with them while not letting their personal lives interfere with the workplace environment made for interesting reading. At times I did feel that their relationship got a little lost in everything else going on in this story, but then Ms. Ryan would pull them back front and center to assure us their story was the most important part of this book.

I’ve been reading this series from the start so Inked Memories is a bit bittersweet, while I’m happy that this branch of the family has all found their soul mates, I am curious as to what is to come with the rest of the Montgomery clan. Sexy, emotional, and with a large, loving, intrusive family to keep it real, Inked Memories ended this series on a high note.

It's time for the final Denver Montgomery sibling to fall in love. Who is the lucky lady? Jillian, whom you might know from Inked Expressions. She is the woman Storm sleeps with before he falls in love with Everly. As some of you might now, I dislike reading romance where the hero or the hero have slept with a sibling or friend of the heroine or her. So I began reading Inked memories knowing that I wasn't going to love it. I liked it, but my feelings tend to go more to the meh side of things. Why? Is not only because Storm and Jillian's relationship is mentioned in what feels every chapter of the book. Twins or not, I still don't like all the tension that was caused because of it or the constant revisit of the past. Another thing that kept me from loving the book is the time it took for Wes and Jillian to get together. They spend so much time doing other things instead of trying to be together. Wes's ex shows up, Jillian dates someone else and something bad happens to one of the people in this book. All this time could have been spent in having the main couple do something romantic or getting to know each other. I wanted more romance less drama. If this was the final book in the series I would have been very disappointed, but I am glad it's not. More books are coming and I am happy for that. I hope the Colorado Springs Montgomery cousins will bring me nothing but joy. I wouldn't recommend the book as a stand-alone, but only as a way to complete the stories of the Denver Montgomery siblings.

I need to start off with the chemistry between Wes and Jillian because let me tell you, these two really know how to steam up the sheets. The air around them was combustible whenever they were together, my only question is: Why hadn't they noticed it when Jillian was Storm's friend-with-benefits? The only thing they had for one another during that time was dislike and animosity.

I think I might have to skip this one. Storm's ex or friends with benefits gets together with his twin Wes. I find that slightly unappealing.

Inked Memories Montgomery Ink Book 8
by Carrie Ann Ryan
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really enjoy The Montgomery Ink series and Ink Memories is book 8 and it's a fabulous, good story! This series is sensual and very enjoyable read with a core of good-hearted characters and a charming close knit family. This story features the Wes the final Denver Montgomery sibling who refuses to instantly fall for his brother’s ex girlfriend Jillian and to top it all off she's the company’s new plumber. This is an engaging end to the final Denver Montgomery Ink series and I know most contemporary romance readers will fall in love and find it quite enjoyable.
Wes Montgomery is the last brother who hasn't got a woman to love and come home too. Wes considers himself as the fixed it one in the family, he has tried to fix every problem (that is if he know about it and if his family will allow him to ) his twin Storm, or his other siblings even his parents have. But he can't fix himself. Wes has watched them all fall in love and now he finds hisself ready to settle down. But the woman he seems to have scorching hot chemistry with is Jillian and she works for Montgomery Inc. not to mention she is his twin’s ex girlfriend ( talk about fixing a problem WOW).
Jillian Reid is a independent woman who wants to fight her own battles when it comes to job as the new plumber at Montgomery Inc. She feels she has to be careful there's no gossip about her and her best friend Storm who is also her ex but she is friends with Storm Fiancee Everly. But now she's having these feelings for his twin Wes and every time they are near each other they are at each other throat or locking their lips together.

Wes is easily my favorite character in this book. I enjoy that Wes is so passionate and charming, he cares about helping his family and cares about his brother feeling. But with Jillian the burn up the pages their chemistry is so hot. I also enjoyed the little subplot with mystery and suspense. Plus that's what I love about Carrie Ann Ryan Books she always include the previous characters which in this case is the Montgomery family. If you are like myself you will love all the characters in the Montgomery Ink series. This book and the series emphasized the aspect of family love as we see them experiencing it , others reconnecting, and others finding a chance at second love. The entire family will just capture your heart. I really do recommend this series for contemporary romance readers looking for a scorching hot fabulous read. The Montgomery Ink series had just enough drama to create believable tension, but not too much to where it was annoying. The heat level is scorching hot, with the connection between the characters jumps off the page. I love how good I feel after finishing one of these stories. I can’t wait to read the next book about the cousins they are up next in Montgomery Series!

I knew this book was going to be hard for me due to the history between Jillian and Storm. I do not like exes dating siblings. I know Jillian and Storm were only sex but still. Perhaps if Storms name wasn't mentioned or thought about so much it would have been different. The first paragraph could have been about their sexual history and then leave it alone but no it's mentioned multiple times. However, I did try to get passed it. My heart broke for Jillian and her father. I wonder if her dad knew. My aunt would go with my grandmother for her kidney dialysis and stay the whole time. Then one day my grandmother told her to go shopping. My grandmother passed away during that treatment. I've always thought she felt it was her time and didn't want my aunt to see her die. I'm glad Jillian and Wes were able to overcome everything and be together.

Beautifully written, emotionally thrilling and completely enthralling conclusion to one of my top ten all time favorite big family romantic series.

Wes Montgomery is highly organized, sexy, smart and the last Denver Montgomery to fall. Jillian Reid is sexy, sassy and at one time "friends with benefits" with Storm Montgomery (Wes's Twin). She also happens to be the only woman Wes seems to want even with all the reasons he shouldn't. Loved their enemies to lovers journey and the undeniable chemistry between them. Such a thrilling reading experience could not put it down.

"Inked Memories" is a bittersweet finish to a spectacular to the long-running Montgomery Ink series. But as they say when a door closes another one opens. Carrie Ann Ryan introduces, or re-introduces, several characters who will have brand new series starting soon! HUZZAH! Montgomery Ink Colorado Springs and Whiskey and Lies will be coming up with more Montgomerys and Tabby's brothers respectively. Back to "Inked Memories". Wes is the last lonely Montgomery. He and his twin brother Storm's ex-friend-with-benefits and current best-friend Jillian are currently constantly feuding. But where there's smoke there's fire. As much as they try to resist each other Jillian and Wes can't stay away from each other.
Wes and Jillian's antagonistic relationship was set up in the previous Montgomery book. Therefore I was prepared for it to be pounded into the ground. Happily that isn't the case. Wes and Jillian are antagonistic but it's almost a kind of foreplay. Quickly they find themselves attracted to each other and they want to fight that attraction more than stop their animosity. As usual Carrie Ann Ryan's sex scenes are super spicy, fun, and delicious! You can't have a Montgomery Ink book without a hospital scene or two. And of course ALL the Montgomerys. In fact, more Montgomerys than usual: Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and more. "Ink Memories" is the "Must Read" for the dedicated Montgomery Ink fan. If you haven't read a Montgomery Ink book now that the series is complete it's time to binge the series!

Oh Jillian and Wes were a lot of fun to be with! One of the best things of an enemies-to-lovers story is that they are so open and honest with each other! What they said as enemies is still said, but it is tempered with feelings an affection now. The things that drove them crazy when they were enemies, they can now act upon, and that leads to some really sexy scenes.

Wes is the last single man in his family, and he never though this is where he'd be at his age. He thought his life would be with a wife and kids by now, and while he is happy with his siblings, he wants that for himself. The always lingering attraction he has for his twin's ex-FWB seems stronger these days, but is that because of his thoughts of settling down or are they growing? Wes gets stuck in his head a few times, but straight-forward Jillian pulls him out

Jillian had hidden from any real relations in her FWB, and now that her best friend has the love of his life settled, what about her? She wants her HEA, but her dad needs her to look after him, and they are all each other has. Wes is a pain to work with, Mr Bossy Boss, but he fires her up like no other. One kiss, and he fires her up in all sorts of ways she hadn't considered

These two stumble about, but they keep stumbling into each other. Their history makes some things possibly weird, but, it also gives them a familiarity that would've taken time to develop. They fit, they fit together so well, I'm sure I had a silly grin on my face while reading their story

ARC REVIEW

Oh you Montgomerys! So this is the last book for this branch of the giant Montgomery family tree. Not only does this book wrap up these siblings but it introduces us to the next batch of siblings who are going to get their books and a hint as to how big the family is (They aren't kidding when they say they have like 45 cousins). So Wes and Jillian, there is nothing like falling for your twin brother's former friend with benefits, can you say awkward. Maybe just for Wes and Jillian, Storm and everyone else saw it coming.

Wes and Jillian can't help but argue with each other, verbal foreplay, they don't know how to handle their attraction to each other any other way before you know it they are making out. Now that Jillian is working for MI her proximity to Wes just increases her desire. The same can be said about Wes the more time her spends with her the more he realizes his first assumption about her was wrong. Falling in love was the easy part it's dealing with everything else is what causes problems from a family crisis to "random" back alley beatings.

Overall, Wes and Jillian are so great together, they have more in common that you would think but once they allow themselves to let the other in everything falls into place. I absolutely loved this read. And yes it is a very...

Such a bitter sweet read this time. The end of the Denver Montgomerys. Oh, but what a wonderful way to go. Finally, Wes is going to get his HEA. All the siblings are happy and doing their thing. Wes is pretty sure that's what he wants as well.

Jillian works for the Montgomery Inc building arm of the family. She's good at what she does. And then there is the little issue of her being Wes's twin's long time booty call before she set him free to find his true love. So this ends up not only being an enemies to lovers tale but a bit of a taboo, guilt ridden adventure as well. Employee, brother's ex, feisty and self sufficient woman....yeah, Wes has a mess on his hand. But we all know the heart wants what it wants.

Great way to warp up the series. We get to see the whole family and keep up with what everyone has been doing. Jillian is a perfect fit for Wes and will be sure to keep him on his toes over time. Hopefully we get to catch up with at least some of this family as the cousins get to find their HEA next.

Read the whole series. You'll fall in love with this loud, boisterous, nosy, loving family.

This is a cute story. Since this is the first book in the series that I have read, I didn't have anything to compare it to as some of the other readers who reviewed the book. Jillian Reid was considered a friend with benefits to Storm, Wes Montgomery's brother. Jillian and Wes never really got along well due to that fact. When Jillian starts working as a plumber in the Montgomery family construction firm the relationship changes from boss to employee, however they can't deny the feelings they have for each other. They are both dealing with family situations such as Wes' Ex and Jillian's Dad, when they realize life is way too short not to get together. As with most couples, there are obstacles to overcome. The entire Montgomery family Is very supportive which helps them to continue the relationship. I recommend reading it since I feel the story can stand alone on its own if you haven't read the others. I really enjoy Carrie Ann's style of writing and I'm looking forward to reading more of her works in the future.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

First off, I love this series. Carrie Ann Ryan made me drool over a bunch of bearded tattooed men, when that is so not my type, lol. And her ladies have their stuff together. They're not stupid, and that goes a long way to me.

This installment is no different. Wes is a bearded tattooed architect and part owner of Montgomery, Inc, the construction arm of the Montgomery family and Jillian is the well respected plumber who we'd previously met. The tension between the two of them is apparent from the beginning, but so is the complication. Jillian is the ex of Wes' twin, Storm. Talk about awkward.

They fight their attraction and it's quite amusing. I cheered when they finally gave in. The outside drama that affected the business didn't flow as seamlessly as I would have expected, but the drama between the two of them more than made up for it.

Sad to read the last book of this branch of the family but look forward to the cousins.

Watching Wes and Jillian fall in love was amazing. These two were clearly looking to for that person that would complement them in life and having a hard time making the connection. When they finally realize that perhaps that person is right in front of them it's so hot and touching. Wes is a great guy and he fits with Jillian beautifully. I loved watching her realize that he could be the partner she needed. They are both dedicated to their jobs and families, kindred spirits and as this book unfolds it is hard to deny the passion, respect, and admiration they have for one another.

It was great to see the rest of the Montgomery clan and hear how everyone that we have already met was doing. I am very much looking forward to meeting the cousins and seeing more of Tabitha's brothers. This is a great series and rather than an ending this book is a great segueway into the next chapters of their lives. Another stellar installmet from Carrie Ann.

Inked Memories is the 8th book in the Montgomery Ink series and the last for the main series. Although it can be read as a standalone, the charm of the whole Montgomery clan is better appreciated with each book read. Especially since Inked Memories has finally given us fans Wes and Jillian's long waited for story.
Wes and Jillian is just that combustible combination waiting to explode and boy do they do that and more. These two have a complicated start (fans would know why while newbies will get the backstory in the book) so for them to actually start a relationship takes a lot of thinking about. Inked Memories has a lot going for it in terms of subplots but it adds a little bit more to the main romance and isn't annoying in anyway. This book is hot, sweet, engaging and heartwarming and to finally have Wes and Jillian come together is worth the wait.

Montgomery family love this series.

The last male Montgomery finally asks their lady plumber on a date. She is a hard worker and stubborn. Jillian works for the Montgomery’s building company, and loves the large family who welcomed her into the fold. Although Wes, is her boss they bicker like an old married couple. They are attracted to each other, but haven’t acted on it, but that all changes.

Carrie Ann Ryan delivers another engaging read with "Inked Memories", the eighth installment in the Montgomery Ink series. This time, the spotlight shines on Wes Montgomery, the last Denver sibling standing, and Jillian Reid, a fiery and dynamic woman with a complicated past tied to the Montgomery family.

The story unfolds as a captivating enemies-to-lovers tale with sizzling chemistry, emotional depth, and a touch of suspense. Wes's struggle to navigate his growing feelings for Jillian, his twin's ex, creates palpable tension, while Jillian's strength and vulnerability make her a relatable and compelling character. Their journey from tension-filled encounters to undeniable passion is well-paced and satisfying.

Ryan masterfully balances the romance with themes of family loyalty, personal growth, and the unexpected twists life throws. The subplot involving Jillian’s father’s health and unforeseen dangers adds a layer of urgency and intrigue that keeps readers turning pages.

While the plot hits familiar romance beats, the emotional connection between Wes and Jillian feels authentic and heartfelt. Fans of the series will appreciate the seamless integration of past characters, while new readers can still enjoy this book as a standalone.

Overall, "Inked Memories" is a steamy, emotional, and satisfying read that perfectly wraps up the Denver Montgomerys' love stories. A must-read for romance enthusiasts who enjoy well-developed characters and a hint of suspense.

I absolutely loved this book. Watching Wes finally get his HEA felt so satisfying, and his journey with Jillian had me hooked from the very first page. Their dynamic—starting off as enemies, shifting into this prickly almost-friendship, and eventually landing in full-on lovers territory—was so much fun to read. Jillian had me cracking up more than once, and the banter between her and Wes was genuinely top-notch. I’m pretty sure Wes may have fallen first, and I made several reader noises every time that chemistry slipped through the cracks.

One of my favorite parts of this series has always been the found-family warmth, and this book delivers that in such a big way. The Montgomery family doesn’t just welcome people—they adopt them, hold on tight, and refuse to let go. As a reader, I felt that too. The dual POV and the workplace setting add even more depth to Wes and Jillian’s opposites-attract dynamic, and the brother’s-ex element is handled with a surprising amount of heart.

There was one moment that made me cry for Jillian, and several that made me genuinely happy. By the time I reached the end, I was already excited to continue with the Montgomery Ink: Fort Collins arc. This installment just solidified how much I adore this world.

Spice (for readers who want to know): ch. 3, 8, 12, 15, 17, 19

A heartfelt, funny, and deeply satisfying enemies-to-lovers romance that absolutely delivers.

I have read every book in this series. This was probably my middle favorite. Not the best but not the worst. I had a hard time deciding between 3 or 4 stars. I found the series had so much potential. It was overall well written but VERY repetitive. It was almost like reading the same book with different characters just slightly changed each time. It lacked creativity. Many of the phrases were repeated and got really old. It didn’t make each character or plot unique enough. A few examples…why is everyone wool gathering all the time? Why is everyone going to pound someone into the mattress? Why is everyone not sure if they like someone and just going day by day until a tragedy strikes and they end up in the hospital every time? Every single character was wishy washy and dumb at certain points. Every story was like “all these things couldn’t possibly be related and must be crazy psycho coincidences”.

I did however love the family. Once the characters got their crap together I loved them. I wanted to love each story more and it was almost there!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I LOVE THIS AUTHOR!!
Inked Memories brings a deliciously slow burn romance between Wes Montgomery and Jillian Reid, filled with fiery chemistry and emotional tension. Wes has watched his family fall in love, but he’s always stayed clear of commitment—until Jillian, his brother's ex and Montgomery Inc.'s new plumber, steps into his life. Their constant friction and undeniable attraction lead to an enemies-to-lovers journey full of sparks and heartfelt moments. The story explores themes of loyalty, second chances, and the fight between love and responsibility. It’s an intense, passionate ride that will keep readers hooked until the very end.

This is what C. A. Ryan does well. She picks a lane and she does it well. She doesn’t veer off into silly areas, that she’s not comfortable creating and therefore we the readers end up with a very enjoyable book. Yes, she plots good hot sex without it being over done, not too much, not overwritten, simply right on point. I love the family aspect as always. Basically you shouldn’t have anything to complain about when you’re reading her stuff.

Wesley is the last single Denver Montgomery. He feels that he is destined to be single. In the previous book, Montgomery Ink brought Storm’s former BFw/B, Jillian, in as a plumber. Sparks fly between them. Wes feels like she had held Storm back from finding his HEA. Once he realized it was not on her, they started exploring their attraction.

SPOILER ALERT. I really enjoyed Wes and Jillian’s story. (I was very glad that the mob was not involved in Jillian’s dad’s death! That would have been so hard.) A few things that detracted from the story: misuse of ‘alacrity’ (a human quality, not used to describe elevators) and (what sounded like listening to the audiobook) ‘gambit’ (instead of ‘gamut’).
