This case is so cold it has frostbite!

Finding lost dogs is all in a day's work for Penelope Standing, along with pet sitting, delivering mail, and helping out at her husband's private detective agency. But stumbling on an unmarked grave in the cemetery — that's new.

Brad Squires disappeared twenty-five years ago, and he definitely wasn't missed. Plenty of people wanted him dead, including Penelope's friend Esther. Brad had taken out a restraining order against her, which puts Esther at the top of the suspects list.

Finding the culprit of a crime that happened twenty-five years ago isn't easy. But to protect Esther, Penelope will dig up clues any way she can!

Whilst Penelope is trying to catch a dog in a cemetery the dog jumps into an open grave, so Penelope jumps in too! When she tries to climb out she dislodges some soil and discovers part of a body! Planted under a rose bush, so not in a proper grave. Turns out the man had been missing for years. Lots of complications ensue as alongside the murder Penelope and Jake have been tasked in looking into Dog homes. A very entertaining read.

I very much enjoy this series. Nothing explicit, no gratuitous violence. These books deliver on the ‘cosy’ of a cosy mystery. Penelope and Jake are a solid couple with great communication and sincere affection for each other (and Brutus!). And I quite like Penelope’s personality - she’d be an entertaining friend.
