Far better than the first one because giant monster sharks on cocaine are awesome. You read that correctly. These beasts are all cracked out and withdrawal makes them pissy. This dips into bizarro territory but it's all good. Book 3 coming up after a short break into something less sharky.
It was two years ago that I read Mega by Jake Bible. I was in the mood for another fun, fast and furious ocean adventure. What could be better than a return voyage with Team Grendel on a new and improved Beowulf?
After finishing Baja Blood, I had to go back and take a look at my review for book one. There are a lot of things that can change in two years: my expectations among those things.
Bible still gave me a great cast of characters and an inventive storyline. Everyone was over the top. Almost every character was an alpha male; hell, even the women were alpha males. This is the type of thing that I expect from a book like this, it can be great fun.
But I had an issue with Baja Blood. Honestly, I don’t recall if it was there with Mega, but it really insulted me with this book - the carelessness of the author and publisher. This book needed, and did not get, some basic copy editing or proofing. I don’t expect perfection, but you should at the very least make it look like you tried. Spell check won’t find everything, but “on” instead of “no” is kind of basic. Using the wrong character’s name was another issue. At one point in time, they were uploading data to the Beowulf II, that ship sank in book one, sorry for the spoiler. And for the love of God, keep consistent, if it’s going to be “Just Darby” then it can’t be “just Darby” later on the same page.
Jake Bible is a creative storyteller. He wants to be financially compensated for his work, as he should be. Please don’t insult your audience with all of this carelessness.
This book is just insane in such a glorious way! Coke addicted mega sharks! I mean, if that doesn’t grab you, I don’t know what will! I read this book a few years ago and had a blast. Baja Blood was just as epic the second time around.
Mega 2 is action non-stop from the beginning to the end. You get a little bit of set up, then we just go full throttle! Drug cartel, mega big sharks, violence, humor, and more. GO! GO! GO! But it never felt rushed, which was impressive. The plot is fantastic and totally bananas.
The characters- the main team and crew of the ship- are so much fun. They really make this series great. Baja Blood continues to develop the characters, giving us a little bit at a time. It’s great because you get growth, you get to know them better, but they still have a mysterious air about them. I love how the team acts together and their slowly forming family bond.
The narrator did a great job. Everyone has their own unique voice. It never gets confusing as to who is talking. While gender is not his strong point, the female voices were still clearly female and different characters. Neil also does a great job delivering the witty dialogue and one liners. He also nails the accents in this one. The narrator is fun to listen to.
I’ve had such a great time reading this book again. This series is just an adrenaline jolt of joy to read. Baja Blood kept me hooked, not only through the whole book, but even after it ended. There is a great build up for book #3! I immediately set out to listen to the next book.

Team Grendel, a motley crew of ex-Navy seals, are back! While hunting down a few cloned mega sharks in Mexico, the team inadvertently get tangled up with the Mexican drug cartel. Things get complicated when the sharks get high on cocaine after they sink the drug cartels drug running subs.
If all of that sounded EPIC to you, this is the right book for you. I mean, seriously, cocaine sharks! Who says no to that?? This book was a lot of fun. Action packed since the first few pages and it never stopped til the very end. I love the characters in this book. Such an amusing cast of characters. Over the top and a total blast! Has a great set up for the rest of the series, which, I for one can't wait to read.
I didn't read much about the plot before reading this, especially since I enjoyed the first one so much. Believe me, it is a blast. If you are a fan of Archer or the other Mega book -- this book is definitely for you.
The narration for Mega 2 Baja Blood was done by Lee Strayer who does a great job again. His narration really moved this story along and allowed me to get lost in it numerous times. I listened to this on a 2-hour drive (more than my normal 30 minutes to work) and it just passed the time perfectly. Strayer was able to portray all of the different characters with their different nuances and different outlooks perfectly.
I have never read a book that could have been an episode of Archer more in my entire life. Don't get me wrong here, I LOVE Archer, and I found myself laughing at it and even comparing characters to the people of Team Grendel. But, seriously. If anyone else has read this book and is a fan of Archer... tell me I'm wrong?
Other than the obvious Archer plot. Mega 2 was fun. I think that's what the author was going for. You can't have a plot like this without hoping that the reader will enjoy it. Sure, there are "serious" parts, but I honestly think this book was written more for fun than its seriousness.
Team Grendel is awesome, the dynamics between them always make me laugh. They are the most random collection of people I've ever read, and that's what makes them awesome.
Overall, Mega 2: Baja Blood was a blast. Serious fun from a not-so-serious group of ragtag individuals.
What can I say? I enjoy these Mega Shark thrillers. This time our heroic team battles giant killer sharks strung out on amped up cocaine! You just thought they were bada@@ sharks before the drugs kicked in! Fun easy reading. I loved the first one and plan to read the next two.
I agree with the author’s assertion that it has a “Clive Cussler” feel mixed with a campy SyFy Movie! Well I haven’t read Clive yet but I get the adventure part. Loved growing up with all the campy and crazy stuff on the SyFy Channel too. My Mom got me into Science Fiction and my Dad got me into Horror and they mix well, just like this series is seeming to do! I love the banter of the characters and all they’re funny quotes! Kinsey is awesome, the Almost Twins, Darby, The Doc, Popeye.. and I’m sad for those we’ve lost...except the bad guys! That was a pretty twisted and righteous ending. I do have to say.. but as frustrating as Ballington is.. I think he’s smart, hiding way to much and also almost as sick as the Cartel leader or Brutal I mean. I wonder is Darcy is a cyborg? And also what else in our there under the sea.. I missed the last shark completely!
Team Grendel kicks butt and fin alike. Team Grendel kicks butt in and out of the water. Nonstop mayhem, action and wit. Read it. You won't regret it. Jake Bible does it again!
First of all, I want to point out that. I really like this type of content. Boating, yachting, sailing, fishing and anything that falls under the concept of a marina.
I leave this information below for those who want to read it. A look at Boat and Yacht History:
the ships we encounter today are; They are large, robust and self-propelled watercraft used to transport cargo across the seas and oceans. This was not the case hundreds of years ago, and current ships went through countless centuries of development until they became what they are today.
In ancient times, sailors used rafts, bamboo logs, reed bales, inflated animal hides, and baskets covered with pitch to cross small bodies of water.
As a matter of fact, the first boat; it was in the form of a simple frame made of interconnected rods and sewn animal hides that skillfully covered them. These boats could easily carry large and heavy loads. Information about similar old boat examples; You can find it among bull boats, Eskimo canoes, and British Islander merchant ships on the North American plains. In addition to these, another old-style boat is the one carved from the log and the ends of which are sharpened. Some of these were 60 feet (approx. 18 m) long.
When we look at the history of seafaring in ancient times, we come across a very interesting study of human strength and survival instincts. For example, in ancient times, the simple shovel mechanism we know was not used. Instead, people used their hands to move through the water in tiny boats. They propelled their rafts forward, pushing the masts to the bottom of the rivers. Increasingly, using his creative instincts and ingenuity, man redesigned the posts by straightening them and widening one end, thus making it usable in deeper waters. Later, this form was masterfully redeveloped and the blade fixed to the sides of the boat was transformed into the shape of a wide oar.
Invention of the sail The invention of the sail was the greatest turning point in maritime history. Sails replaced human muscle movements, and sailboats were able to travel longer with heavier loads. The first ships used square sails, which were best suited to sail downwind. Side sails were invented later.
The Egyptians credit the emergence of advanced sailing cargo ships. These were made by connecting and stitching together small pieces of wood. These cargo ships were used to transport large stone pillars used in the construction of monuments.
Here are the contents I love about two beautiful marinas.
Hello Gemmies! I have an entertaining audiobook review to share with you today. MEGA 2: Baja Blood by Jake Bible is the second book in the MEGA series. This series is pure adrenaline blood soaked fun! Jake Bible has seamlessly blended the military thriller, science fiction, action, humor, and horror, genres into one roller coaster thrill ride!
MEGA 2: Baja Blood takes place about a year after the events in MEGA. We get caught up on what each member of Team Grendel has been up to since averting near disaster in The Indian Ocean. I just love this group of misfits. They are relatable, make me laugh, and have great chemistry together. Jake Bible has given each a unique voice that i really enjoyed. I found myself fully invested in all of their outcomes. With Drug Cartels thrown into the mix, the stakes are raised even higher for our group of reluctant hero's. Jake has delivered another well thought out adventure with even more twists and turns and secrets to decipher. The action starts right from the first chapter and it is quickly evident that not all is as it seems and there are plots within plots. I got my wish this time and there is more shark carnage than we had in MEGA. I hope we get to see even more in book three!
MEGA 2: Baja Blood is narrated by one person, Neil Hellegers. Neil did a brilliant job bringing all of these characters to life. He adds enough differentiation to his voice to give each character a unique personality. My favorites are brothers Max and Shane. The pacing was perfect and the story never felt rushed. Neil also gave just the right amount of snark to convey the awesome humor sprinkled throughout the book.
If you love giant killer sharks, drug cartel shenanigans, high tech weapons, dark humor, and ocean adventures go read this book! Published by Severed Press, MEGA 2: Baja Blood is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give MEGA 2: Baja Blood 4 out of 5 gems. I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series. Happy Reading!
I noted in my review of the first Mega book that such an oddball cast and disparate subject matter shouldn't necessarily work but does. And I think it actually works a bit better in the second book. The cast features seriously psychopathic bad guys, drug addled megladons and of course the daunting, diverse, ferocious and funny team Grendel. What's not to like? I like that Bible never takes himself too seriously and is unafraid to add gay and disabled characters. But most of all this book is a quick hit for action and sea monster fans. Recommended with your favorite energy drink and vodka.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fast paced, and the drama did not let up until the very end. I was surprised by the ending. I honestly did not see it coming. There were no clues to give it away, that I picked up on. I can usually see them coming, but this author made sure to hide them. He is really good. I look forward to another sequel.
So I love Jake Bible. His books are a good time. Lots of big, engineered creatures that have to be killed by former navy seals and a fight with a drug cartel at the same time. Lots of great action!
Again, another masterpiece from Jake bible. Like I have said before, I can't remember or compare any author that can write about many characters and still keep them developed, interesting and engaging. Shane and Mike need their own spin off series.
Loose plot, crossed details. Really enjoyed some of his other books but this series has no zing yet. Read in a day and felt like was written in a week.
Definitely better than the first book in the series. The characters are developing with a good level of depth and dependency. A really well done story.
It took reading this one to really appreciate the ridiculousness of this series. The non-shark parts are still kinda boring, but the story is batshit insane and good pulpy fun.
Compelling characters that are now set up for a million sequels and I’m not even mad about it. These poor sharks are basically innocent bystanders at this point though.
The team is back for another adventure. I have never been more happy to have characters back! The fast paced story helps you feel like you are right there with the team. The writing is strong and well guided. I am looking forward to book three!!
Once again the author delivers an action packed novel. Team Grendel is back on a different, better boat, Beowolf 3, and this time they are taking on the drug cartel as well as mega sharks. This time the sharks are jacked up on a cocaine like drug, making them 10x more dangerous.
Like the idea - who doesn't love some giant shark action?
Characters are gleefully over the top - stoner snipers, that's gold.
Story is a blast - sharks, drug cartels and sneaky secret doings.
Two quibbles. Perhaps one too many twists. it got so I wanted a score card to see who was secretly working for who. And editing/proofreading. It might be just me but I hope not - punctuation, grammar and continuity count. The way I see it, if I catch an error there's a lot more there because I'm bad at this stuff too. There's nothing more tiresome than ripping along through a good story and getting clotheslined by a missed capitalization. This book didn't have enough off these to make me put it down but it did have enough to bug me.
Bottom line, I'm waiting for the next one because this is a stone cold hoot of a series.
This, the second book, was better than the first. The back and forth annoying dialogue has gone down but is still there. Hope this is lessened as the series continues. This time out still have massive sharks, but add in deadly drug cartels, new more addictive cocaine, and thrown in a lot more deaths from the sharks and you have an exciting non stop story.
