The Republic thought they knew their enemy… …they were devastatingly wrong. And a new adversary was about to prove it.
Commander Ripley Willis Lee knew the stakes couldn’t be higher. As captain of the Republic’s newest warship—RNS Poseidon, he’d been given command of a task force to conduct hit-and-run operations against Zodark convoys and reconnaissance missions behind enemy lines.
With the Battle for Intus underway, the Rass system—a Primord colony captured by the Zodarks—was the next planet the Republic intended to liberate.
When Lee’s task force engaged an unprotected convoy, it spiraled into an elaborate trap. It would take every bit of cunning and strategy they had if they were to survive.
While Lee was sowing chaos behind enemy lines, the Republic Army was in desperate need of pilots for close air support missions. Lieutenant Blake Cooper’s squadron answers the call, swapping their F-97 Orion starfighters for the venerable flying tanks—the AS-90 Reaper.
With the lives of hundreds of soldiers in Coop's hands. It forces him to confront the demons of the past to become the leader his squadron needs him to become.
Do you like fast-paced action and epic worldbuilding?
You’ll love this second installment of the spin-off series from the Rise of the Republic universe as the adventure continues.
Only three story lines to keep track of. The drone pilot Cooper, or Coop, the Osprey pilot, Lieutenant Naomi Love and the captain of the Poseidon, Commander Ripley Lee. And what they, and their crews, have in common, is their desire for fighting the Zodarks. They are part of the Republic where Earth is joined with the Primords, Intus is their world after all, and the Altairians. So the fight is on for Intus and to destroy any Zodark along the way, including those hiding out in an asteroid field. This was such a great read that I am definitely hooked on this series and can't wait for the next book to come out. Thank you, Brandon Ellis and James Rosone, for a fantastic collaboration job. Well done guys.
The first book was great the words on the page had an easy constant flow that allowed me to finish it in a day. This second book was a hard read for me took almost a week for me to finish it. I couldn't get into a steady flow. It seemed the author was going overly into the mental strain of constant combat then after one character gets a couple days of R&R it's no longer an issue. I felt like I waisted my time reading those chapters since there wasn't really a point to that part of the story made when this book ended.
As a Rosone veteran, have devoured all I can get. This was kinda a repeat of previously trodden ground, except focused on an arc of the whole. Knowledge of backstory aside, this book went into a deeper dive on what was covered in a paragraph or two, or contained in an after-action report in the whole. Was enjoyable enough that I will make the next journey. Enjoy!
Rosone and Ellis make a great team. They've created a futuristic sci-fi world that's possible and realistic. A future that's exciting enough to become a reality for tomorrow. Can't wait for book #3 ! Don't they say that sci-fi leads to our future ?
In this book, the authors do a much better job of showing us the plot through the eyes and actions of the main characters, Love, Lee and Coop. But we have learned little about the Primords and nothing about the Altairians. And the same can be said about the Zodarks, the bad guys in the plot.
Good story but too much repetitive tactical action and not enough deep strategic discussion. Also the character coop Should be fired from his squadron. His ego is waaaaaaay too big to be realistic.
