Giiiiiirrrrrllllllll the way Bewtie had me running to her DMs is crazy but what’s even crazier is the way this story unfolds just for the huge plot twist at the end. The twist at the end had me ready to throw my reading device cause ma’am what do you mean????!!! This story literally hooks you in the beginning & keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting more & more & more & then you get to the end & it’s like BOOM!!!!! This was soooo good. I got the romance elements and the paranormal elements. There’s definitely some wild stuff going on in this book.
I want more! The way the book ended ( not a cliffhanger) I can see room for another book. Mary~Maude was something else, she possessed powers from the Orpheus and thought she was untouchable. She has a son who ends up with a finger lol that’s all I’m going to say about that! The way this plot unfolded was amazing and I enjoyed the writing style. I look forward to more books from this author. If you like magic, paranormal and shifting you will enjoy this book.
Very interesting read! It left me with so many questions lol. Definitely a good read but so many questions! Like was it a dream and when she woke up from said dream had she already done what she did to Kasha and her family? Like I need answers
Oh my goodness, what a ride. This was a well crafted paranormal featuring witchcraft, vampire & a type of werewolf .
The main evil FMC was truly evil. She showed what path jealousy can lead you to. It also talked about the sometimes awkward relationship between mothers & sons during the mother treating the son as her man instead of her son.
Author b.bewtie sure knows how to keep us on our toes and guessing. You know… I definitely wouldn't have guessed the finger was coming from a mile away. I really want to pull up on the mama too because WHAT?! I look forward to reading more from this author !
This book wasn’t what I expected. I anticipated a love story being the main focus with the supernatural elements as a secondary plot. It’s actually the other way around. The supernatural stuff is the main focus, and we meet Jasriel and Kasha after they’ve been together for a few years.
I feel like so much time was spent on Mama Maudey and her antics that I’m not sure of how I feel about Jasriel and Kasha. However, I do know that I don’t not like them and that the AI pictures of Jasriel are fine af lol.
I also know that Jasriel and Kasha are the loves of each other’s lives, but I didn’t feel the chemistry between them. I could feel how much they cared for one another but there isn’t any sensuality or sexual tension between them on these pages. Now, there are some sex scenes but tbh Jasriel and Kasha having sex could’ve been left out or closed door. It just felt out of place.
Also, Jasriel speaks like he’s from the southern part of the United States in the early 1900s. Every time he said “sweet lady”, I heard “little lady” and pictured him tipping his straw hat while chewing on a toothpick. (The year of the present-day part of the book isn’t specified but Kasha mentioned “The Princess and the Frog” to Jasriel so it’s current times.)
Now on to Mama Maudey. This heffa here is all kinds of fucked up. When she started tripping about Jasriel and Kasha big grown asses being together, I was like “What in the one-sided emotional incest is going on here??” This book was a case of a mama thinking her son is her man, but at least the son is aware and called her out on it.
Outside of trying to fuck with Jasriel and Kasha’s relationship, Mama Maudey did a lot of other fucked up shit to other people. I was happy that Bonnie got her revenge. Then I saw the POV of the last chapter 😒 I immediately figured out what was going on but held out a little hope. Me saying “don’t piss me off” didn’t do shit because the last chapter did, in fact, piss me off.
This is the first book I’ve read by B. Bewtie and the jury is still out on if I want to check out more of her catalogue. This book did a whole lotta whole lotta with no real payoff, and I feel like I wasted my time. After Jasriel found out his finger could turn into a dick, I started to be put off by the story cause wtf. Then when he raped a 🥷🏾 with his dick-finger, I was pretty much over the story. I stuck it out though because I was damn near finished with the book anyway.
And I understand why Jasriel did what he did, but it really wasn’t necessary. You’re already outside. Just shove a tree limb up the 🥷🏾’s ass and kill him 🤷🏾♀️ Cause let’s be real. That 🥷🏾 needed to die for what he was doing to that 13 year old baby.
So… I wanted to love this book so much. I will say I absolutely loved the beginning… the middle and end is where I began to change my rating from 5 stars… to 4 stars… to 3 stars…
Pro’s 👍🏾 I personally love stories based in Lousiana so that was a plus!
I loved the descriptions of the main and supporting characters and I also enjoyed the backstories and how/why the characters came to be who they are in the story.
Kasha and Jasriel made a beautiful couple and I love black love in my books!
The entire book was interesting and engaging and I wanted to keep reading and make it to the end to find out what happens
Cons 👎🏾 This book has a lot of graphic detailed rape/sexual assault scenes so I am sure that may be a trigger for some. I just feel like some of the graphic details could have been left out. There’s literally like 4 different rapes happening in this story and imo that is a lot. The man deserved it but still… yikes!
There were a couple of major errors that stood out to me. Magic isn’t supposed to work in the Great-in-between life but Bonnie’s did… hmm… if she was an exception that should have been explained. I know she was stronger than any other witch but to preface the background history of the Great in between saying no magic works there then that leads readers to believe that is for everyone since no exception was mentioned. In the second to last chapter it said that Bonnie ushered Jas and Kasha into the house to keep them safe but then several pages later it says they were still outside hiding behind a cypress tree.
I absolutely hated the ending!! Like what!!?? I think the author must have gotten tired or wanted to try a different twist at the end but that twist ruined the story imo. It did not work for this story at all. If the ending had stayed like it was instead of the very last chapter about Mary Maude LeSainte I would have kept my rating at 4 stars.

So far this has been my favorite book of the month. Imagine you find the love of your life and they give you all the feelings every time you see them. Imagine that person feels the exact same way about you and sometimes you just stare at each other without speaking because you're so in love.
NOW imagine you have a mother who is so jealous of the love you have for your love. She doesn't want anyone to take you away from her. She wants to keep all your love for herself and will go to the ends of the earth to destroy the you love with your soulmate.
This book takes us on a ride of ups and downs and twists and "what F" moments and I loved every bit of that ride. It's set in Louisiana and the author did an amazing job capturing the culture. Mama Mary-Maude is something else. Go ahead and read this book.
I thought the book's concept was interesting, but the storytelling was somewhat choppy at times. Great characters and storyline, but with editing issues and inconsistencies. Some parts were just unrealistically weird. I would read another book by this author. There is such potential. I hope the author keeps writing. 2.5 stars
This was a different take who on the monsters are. I was actually rooting for the kills that they were doing. A love story of ordinary people turned into vampires.
This book was a really good 😊 one. It had me going from start to finish. I definitely recommend this book 📚 to anyone into fantasy and magic ✨ I don’t want to give away the twist or perks, but I will say this is a must read.
