Rate this book
Centuries old, there is a prophecy that foretells of one who will bring the powers of the lost stones of Xan together to restore balance between Good and Evil; Life and Death!

The world, long under the control of the Powers of Evil; with leagues of twisted creatures controlled by sorcerers bent on killing and enslaving all men.

The world has waited long enough! The time for that prophecy to be fulfilled has come. Both Good and Evil have waited, searching desperately over the years for the child of prophecy.

Now, a simple farm boy coming of age is promised to save or destroy them all. Life changing revelations leave him vulnerable and open to suggestion.

Which way will he turn? Who will get to him first? Who will guide and protect him until the prophecy can be fulfilled?

Friends, family... life itself hangs in the balance as Dagan begins to understand just how important he really is. Is he enough to save those he loves or will he fall victim to the Darkness the world fears so much?

Let it begin... let it all end!

Prophecy is the debut novel by author D.D. Lawson. For full disclosure, the author is a good friend and as such I was given a PROOF copy to read and review.

For me personally, I struggled a bit with the book's flow, it was almost too fast and convenient. I get that it was written with a pre and early teen audience in mind, I've just grown very accustomed to the epic fantasy genre where character development takes a lot more time than this book has to offer. At 229 pages it's a quick read that I'm sure any teen reader will find a fascinating adventure.

I found that I "Liked" the book overall, thus the 3-star rating. I think with a bit more character and world development I'd have been in the 4 star range.

This book and series have potential, the characters are very likable and the story follows a path that's structured and easy to fall into. The premise of the story is that 8 powerful artifacts from the sorcerer Xan have been scattered throughout the land for over 1000 years. Currently a powerful and evil sorcerer is causing harm to the land and its people.

Long ago a prophecy was given of the one that would have the potential to deliver the world from the powers of darkness, and the time has come for the promised savior to appear.

The story follows Dagan as he comes to accept his role as half elf, half sorcerer and young man in love.

The expected climax to the story was a little anti-climactic for my own tastes, but the ending did leave me with a desire to read more.

I look forward to the continuation of this story and the development of D.D. Lawson as a writer.

This was an exciting adventure from the beginning. I had a hard time putting it down. The only thing that stopped me was when my Kindle ran out of power. I'm anxious to read the next book. Even though the main character is 20, this is a book suitable for younger audiences. Elves and other creatures and magic give this book a fantasy feel. There is even a touch of romance to keep female readers happy. It's a clean read with no swearing. As a caution to sensitive readers, there is a graphic torture scene at the end of the book.
