Gwenllian Lloyd was out for a stroll in the gardens when her dog, Oliver decides to take off running. Oliver bumps Mr. Daniel Wycliff's leg. Wycliff loses his balance trying not to step on Oliver and on his way down he takes Gwen down with him. Gwen ends up landing on top of Daniel. Gwen can't believe that she ended up falling (literary) for one of the most handsome guys around. Daniel knows from the first moment he met Gwen that he liked her. Daniel wants to get to know Gwen better so he asks to see her again. Gwen and Mr. Wycliff really enjoy each other's company. Mr. Wycliff even likes Oliver and winds up buying him a fancy dog collar. Gwen wants to give Daniel her heart. The problem is Daniel has a reputation as a rake in addition to rumors that Mr. Wycliff might be a dangerous man but to whom?

I enjoyed the characters. Gwen, Daniel, and even Oliver all had great personalities about them. I could see why Gwen liked Daniel, as he was good-looking, tall, and he knew how to make a woman swoon. What a fun dog Oliver was, always letting you know what he is thinking besides he found Daniel for Gwen didn’t he? Who won’t want a pug like Oliver. Gwen tried to be a lady but sometimes her spunky side would come out. I thought The Secret Hunter was a good book. I can see why The Secret Hunter is a Finalist in the Desert Rose RWA in the 2008 Golden Quill contest in the Regency category!

Congratulations Ms. Saville on the nomination for The Secret Hunter.

What Other Review Sites Have Said About The Secret Hunter:

FOUR STARS from Romantic Times!

"Saville's romp is intriguing, with amusing characters.... although the sexual content is mild, the sensuality is on the mark, and the villain's identity is up for grabs almost to the end of the book." - Faith V. Smith, Romantic Times

"With a wounded hero to sigh over, his precious princess, scandalous secrets about to be exposed and a rambunctious, hairy pug of a matchmaker, THE SECRET HUNTER is definitely a delightful historical to help while away those sweet summer nights." - J.T., Romance Junkies

"A lively and engaging Regency romance; author Susanne Saville has crafted a fresh look at the fun that can be had when a hairy matchmaker draws two unlikely protagonists together. Daniel is a hero to admire.... Together with Gwenllian the sexual tension is a palpable thing, humming along through the story....To witness their falling in love is beautiful, romantic and emotional while working together to foil a traitor." - Lettetia, Ecataromance

I was very excited to read this book because I won it through Bookreads. Below is my critique of this new novel.

My first impression of the novel was at its length. I was skeptical that I could become attached to any of the characters in such a limited amount of pages but I was proven wrong. By limiting the number of characters and creating a very believable dialogue, the author had me believing in the characters in no time.

I have always been a fan of historical fiction set in the Victorian era, so I have to admit to some bias on my part. My warning to potential readers: if you are not a fan of the Victorian era or of dialogue novels that read a bit like a play then this is not the novel for you. If you do give this novel a chance, you will probably be pleasantly surprised with the impressive flow of dialogue. This novel also contains that nice mix of propriety and scandal that was present in this era. The actions of the women both in their naivety and in the constraints of the social structure are so foreign from modern day that one can not help but be fascinated. The only downfall of the novel was the climax. It was creative but fell short because the actions of the main character Gwenllian during the climax were just not believable. Prior to the climax the author portrays Gwenllian as a fairly naïve sheltered Victorian women, yet, the characters actions during the climax were anything but timid. Overall, that one flaw did not ruin the novel for me it just took it down in my mind from possible being 4 stars to being a solid 3 star book.
Lastly, anyone that can write realistic dialogue has my upmost admiration.

This was a fun, entertaining read. Saville kept me on my toes with unexpected twists and kept me steadfastly rooting for the main characters. I immediately fell in love with the Gwenllian and Daniel. I love a good wounded hero romance story!

Good book, great for a POD. The author has a lot of style and should surprise her readers in the future to really create the hook.

I don't ever comment on cover art in a review, but the photoshopping is so bad it's funny. It only endeared me.

entered a bunch of those book giveaways on goodreads and won this book on GoodReads First Reads. Pretty quick read. A short novel in the vein of regency romance novels. Cute funny story. Very sweet

I really enjoyed this book. It is refreshing to read a romance where the couple like each other from the beginning.
