This was a twisted, sinister little affair. Great use of the horror elements and, despite how disgusting and uncomfortable it was, all the plot points involving the pregnancies were solid. Tim, our lead...you just couldn't help but feel for this poor bastard. He was far from perfect. Like really, really far from being so, but he had good intentions. I wish that I could get more detailed, but I won't spoil any of the fun. The sparce use of the flashbacks was also something that I enjoyed, as doing the back-and-forth game too often can hurt the impact of a good story. I wouldn't call this extreme horror, but it came pretty damn close. Lots of gory and violent instances, a unique premise, and some memorable characters, this was a very good outing with Dan Shrader.

Tim and Aubrey are expecting their first child together. After several miscarriages, their luck seems to be turning around. This is supposed to be a happy time for them but Tim is very distant from his wife. Aubrey joins a support group for pregnant women and that keeps her happy for the most part.

When the women in the support group go missing, tensions rise for Aubrey and all the women. A serial killer is going around and targeting pregnant women. Women from Aubreys' support group to be exact. Her friends. She takes extra precautions to keep her baby safe but little does she know, the monster is closer than she thinks. All of this is happening under the red cannibal moon. Is this a coincidence or a bad omen?

This was a fast and heavy read. If you are currently pregnant, proceed with caution. The villains in this story are ruthless and just how I love my villains. The supernatural element was nicely done and I liked the take on the cannibal moon. It was different, held evil powers, and worked well. The last chapter was great and dare I say it's open for more? Shrader knows how to deliver depravity and he does it well. This was great!

When Dan sent me this ARC he really wanted some honest feedback and I was happy to give it. This story has really stuck with me ever since I finished it. Dan chose a really sensitive subject for this story and you can tell he poured his entire heart and soul into this one. It’s HEAVY and really DARK.

I really wasn’t expecting to be hit as hard as I was whenever I finished it. If you’ve struggled with pregnancy in any way, shape or form that comes in, this might be the one that you need to skip or possibly it might be a way for you to cope through with it in the darkest way imaginable. Everyone’s different🤷🏻‍♀️🖤

I usually include a brief summary of the story in my reviews but this one is hard to do so without giving too many details away. So I’m keeping my mouth shut for this portion of the review.

I cannot wait for everyone to read this one. I told Dan it’s my absolute favorites of his to date. It’s going to be really difficult to top this one.

This story is truly dark; dark, somewhat graphic, and extremely intense. Perhaps even unhinged, if you take into account that the sick logic underpinning the violence and the gore in "Corpsebound," reflects the acts of a serial killer targetting pregnant women. And not just pregnant; they're several months ahead, with noticeable bellies, the fetus mostly developed. The plot focuses on a couple who've had trouble conceiving, and after many miscarriages, a healthy pregnancy is achieved (this sounds like I'm describing a clinical trial, but after what happens in the book I decided to put some distance between myself and the poor couple!).

Anyway, what disrupts their pregnancy routines is on the one hand, the aforementioned serial killer (some of their friends are among the victims), and on the other, the wife's mom, who's a handful for both parents - a really spiteful and nasty piece of work ready to make the couple's life a living hell. If that was all, of course, this wouldn't be a Shrader story, so add to the mix the kinky extra-marital sex life of the husband and a secret he shares with his male cousin, and you have the first part of a story which is going to keep you reading till dawn.

In fact, about that secret: although I described the story as "somewhat graphic," I realize that this is a bit misleading; compared to the stuff I usually read in extreme horror, the gore is pretty mild, but if you're not a veteran, you're bound to feel sick reading this, at least when you reach a couple of grim and bloody scenes in the second half of the story.

Otherwise, jump right into it! I'm stoked for more, and can't wait for the next part of this sweet transgressive horror candy!

Dan is really knocking it out with releases lately and this one was no slouch either.

When I read the synopsis, I had a feeling this was going to be a dark fucked up little story, isn't it always when dealing with a parents love and the desperation for children whether you "need" them or not?

Add in a strained marriage, and a visiting in-law, and it really had me thinking, DAMN who is "Clayface" this murdering, thing or person killing pregnant women.

Honestly with how well written this was, It could have been Aubrey, Tim, or her mother, I was side eyeing everyone because what the fuck is going on ?

Or is this a worse thing, someone or something that's been skulking around just waiting to come out and terrorize.

I wont tell you, because half of what I loved about this was the MYSTERY, and a well written one for horror. Dan poured more into this then just shock , awe, and gory guts, he crafted a well written mystery, that really will have you pointing fingers at everyone you meet.

This maybe my second favorite Shrader book, but its splitting hairs at this point.
I basically read a few pages of this before bed, then finished the next day, it really sucks you in.

First I just want to thank Dan for gifting me a a copy of this ebook. He didn’t have to do that and it was so cool of him! I’m so excited this was my first book by him.

It is bad enough that this town is being struck with tragedy of missing women but it makes it even more tense when there is the realization that the women are pregnant and when they are found - they are dead and the babies are gone.

Aubrey is pregnant and finding out this news is incredibly scary. Not to mention one of the pregnant women in her soon to be mommy’s group hasn’t been returning calls. Aubrey’s husband Tim works a lot and her mom who is staying with them is not very comforting as well so Aubrey understandably becomes a nervous wreck.

In Tim’s world, he is not sure what to think about becoming a dad. He often is with his cousin, Paul and they have been very close their whole life. Along with that comes many secrets shoved deep down between them. Tim starts to wonder about a long buried secret and starts to wonder what Paul may be capable of now…

Things continue to intensify and get worse and Tim has to confront his past. It is haunted and Aubrey doesn’t know a thing. He wants to protect himself but also doesn’t want anything to happen to Aubrey. Either way, a monster is out there and all signs point to it reaching Aubrey at any time and no one is safe protecting her or themselves.

This story is great! I haven’t read anything like it before and I found it to be easy to read and kept my attention invested. Everything tied in together well and flowed nicely. Although I don’t have a ton of triggers there is always that twinge I get knowing that pregnancy and babies are a big part of a horror story. While there is plenty of violence, the gore isn’t over the top but just right, just enough to grit your teeth.

I don’t have anything negative to say about this book and I look forward to the next book I read by Dan Shrader. Happy reading and maaaaaybe don’t read this book if you’re pregnant right now! Ha.

I've read quite a few books by Dan Shrader, and this was a very well written, brutal intense story that had plenty of twists. I thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong. Highly recommend this one to anyone that's looking for a good Serial Killer story.

“A thousand screaming babies in hell and there’s room for so many more…”

Happy release day to one of my favorite people in this community!

Shrader came through with yet another five star read!!! It’s definitely his most memorable book to date, in my opinion. This story is pretty fucking brutal and leaves a lasting impression. The imagery is insane and will have you saying “WTF”—but there’s so much more to this book. So much more.

This is one of those stories that sticks with you and has scenes that will live rent free in your head. Without giving away any spoilers… Shrader tackled a really heavy subject and gave a males perspective to a topic that’s usually talked about more with women… and he executed it brilliantly—to the point I had a whole discussion about it with multiple people after reading.

Beyond that, you can expect the best of the best of Shrader’s story telling and writing style. It’s creepy, haunting, chilling AF, and per always… a plot twist and ending that leaves your jaw dropped. I can confidently say that this is now my favorite published book by Dan, and if this is how he’s starting off 2025 then I cannot imagine what else is to come.

Visceral and brutal, this book will grab you by the throat and not let go. It's extremely disturbing without being overly graphic in my opinion. A serial killer targeting pregnant women and a pair of cousins with a dark secret from their past create an intriguing story. I personally couldn't put it down and finished it in one sitting. I'm really enjoying this author's writing.
