I have been a big fan of Ali McNamara for ages, and I absolutely loved her novel From Notting Hill With Love…Actually. In fact, it has been read so many times that I know the book off by heart. So when I found out that Ali was releasing an eagerly anticipated sequel, I was so excited and could not WAIT to get started on it! I will just state that although this is a sequel and reading the first book beforehand will help you to know who some of the characters are straight away and more of the background story, as well as having a longer time with the characters and therefore more enjoyment, it is not essential as there is a brief recap given in the first few chapters which allows any new fans to enjoy this book as a standalone.

In From Notting hill To New York…Actually, the scene opens with Scarlett and Sean in their home life. Scarlett, the girl who is addicted to romantic films, is certain she has found her perfect man, her career is going well, and she has a wonderful best friend in the form of Oscar. Life is looking up for her! The only problem is that Sean is regularly away on business, leaving Scarlett feeling as though there is a gap in her life. So when the opportunity arises to go to New York on the holiday of a lifetime, Scarlett and Oscar jump at the chance. In New York, the best friends see the famous sights, get into mischief and look set to have a holiday that will change their lives…

Where do I begin with this? It was AMAZING! This book has everything you could want from a story – It has romance, it has drama, and it has some very funny moments…At times I was having trouble breathing because I was laughing so much, and not just laughing, crying with laughter! From page one we are taken on a whirlwind adventure with Scarlett and Oscar and it is like being on a ride that you want to last forever! I didn’t know where the story would take me, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment!

The book is gripping, if like me you are a huge fan of chick-lit and romantic comedy stories you will not be disappointed one bit. I raced through this book and was up late at night desperate to read more! For all the fans of romantic movies, there is something for you too because there are lots of references to the ultimate movies throughout: You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless In Seattle, Breakfast At Tiffany’s - and this just makes it more enjoyable to read as you re-live scenes from the movies in this story, it adds an extra bit of excitement and sparkle to the chapters.

The characters were EXCEPTIONAL. I don’t usually say this but every character brought something special to the story and they were all so well-written that I felt as though I had known these people for my entire life so far. Scarlett is the perfect heroine, she’s fun, she has a good heart and she’s unpredictable, as a reader I ended up laughing with her at the situations she finds herself in, and I was constantly cheering her on to find her happy ending and for her to succeed in her goals. Oscar was just fantastic, I cannot fault his character at all, I only wish I had a best friend like him in real life! There are plenty of eligible bachelors in the story too – There’s Sean who is Scarlett’s Mr Right, the handsome TV reporter Jamie, and Peter, who seems to appear out of nowhere and burst into Scarlett’s life in a brilliant way. There is also the occasional appearance from drop-dead gorgeous celebrities so keep your eye out for those!

Although the story is one thrilling ride of laughter and fun, there are few serious subjects that are touched on. Ali has beautifully and delicately written about these in a way that gets the message and meaning across, touching the readers heart and weaving these subjects effortlessly into Scarlett’s journey.

Ali McNamara has again written a humourous, delightful story about a young woman’s journey in the world. It is fun, it is fresh and it is addictive. You will laugh, you will cry and you will be left with a warm feeling, as well as a strong desire to re-read this book and experience the magic and excitement all over again. Fantastic!

I absolutely loved From Notting Hill with Love... Actually and I was really super looking forward to this sequel. I thought Scarlett and Sean were such a great pairing and I especially liked the flamboyant Oscar.
So, the sequel had a lot to live up to and as you can guess from the 2 star rating - it really didn't.
The story started out OK, but slowly as the story progressed it became more and more and more far-fetched and ridiculous. I won't spoil it by revealing the most preposterous plot twist. But let me just say EWWWW.
Oh, and I love a HEA as much as the next romance addict, but this ending was so sickly sweet I nearly vomited rainbows.

Romantic Comedy Adventures in NYC

Having enjoyed all the romantic fun and lovely movie references in From Notting Hill to Love...Actually, I was thrilled to see that there were two sequels to that follow the characters from the first tale.

As a NYC fan and frequent visitor it was lovely to see Scarlett travel to the Big Apple and visit its important landmarks - such as The Empire State Building, Central Park. The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Tiffanys, and the Brooklyn Bridge to name a few. And I loved seeing Scarlett make parallels to movies such as Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Serendipity, When Harry Met Sally, and Hitch at all these places! (Note: the two movies mentioned in the title are not really referenced in this book)

And while it was fun to see the NYC inspired movie references and sights in this sequel, I wasn't such a big fan of the characters and their relationship this time around. Sean, who was wonderful in the first book, was often portrayed in such a negative light in this one. He seemed to be quite a downer and Scarlett's unhappiness with aspects of their relationship felt like the HEA we got in Book 1 was no more.

In addition, I was sad to find Scarlett a little less likable in this story. She had that magical luck that makes everyone fall in love with her at first sight and makes everything work out for her in the end even though she didn't put much effort in to achieve it herself. I couldn't really get behind her and root for her this time around - too many happy coincidences and convenient rescues to feel believable. And I didn't like her attitude about her overnight dream project that she had absolutely no knowledge or experience how to achieve or put in motion, but is ready to break up with her boyfriend over because he was a little hesitant to come on board... I don't think Sean is the bad guy for being a reality checker in this sitch...

What kept this book at a 3 star rating for me was the fun adventure at the end... I'm a sucker for puzzles! I definitely recommend the first book of this series, but I must admit I am less hesitant to recommend this one.

I don't really know how to feel about this book because while I thought the plot (while predictable) was clever and weaved together well, the characters are borderline annoying. I think they are well written and each is developed with enough time dedicated to them - but I just don't find them likeable. The conflict with Sean was forced and he didn't come across well in the book at all. Scarlett is way too perfect. Everyone spends the book telling her she is wonderful and hilarious and kind and fantastic snore snore. Oscar was funny for a while but then it became too over the top, especially because he switched between being kind and being a stuck up snob. I just really struggled to not roll my eyes at how it all worked out for Scarlett and everyone just laughed it off. However it was engaging and if you enjoy the genre you will enjoy this book.

Oh dear me, this was dreadful. A wafer thin plot, trying desperately to recapture the zest of the prequel, but not quite managing it. Part of the problem for me was that I worked out the 'big twist' very early on (it wasn't difficult, believe me), and as the tension relied on that twist, the rest of story was sadly lacking in any sort of dramatic tension or frankly interest for me. The main character, Scarlet was hard to like and I wasn't convinced about her relationship with Sean at all, they were too different. And don't get me started on the coincidences that much of this story relied on - no matter where she went in New York City, she would always 'coincidentally' run into the same three people over and over again. Won't bother with any more from this author.

One of my all time favorite trilogies. There aren't many good ones in the rom-com department and this definitely deserves a re-read soon.

I give this book an infinite amount of stars. This book is my 123rd read of 2012 and I have to say it could possibly be my favourite book of the year. I started it a few hours ago and could not put it down. I only read the first one earlier this year, From Notting Hill with Love... Actually and devoured that ridiculously fast as well. Ali McNamara is a fantastic author and has created an amazing character in Scarlett. Much like a certain Becky Brandon née Bloomwood, Scarlett O'Brien has everything needed to be the perfect chick lit character. I loved her in the first book but even more so in this one. She is the sort of girl you wish you knew in real life.

This is the sort of book you wish would be made into a film, and what a film it would be. Even the first few chapters were hilarious and amazing. The book is full of comedic moments. One of my favourite things about the first book was the setting, Notting Hill is one of my favourite parts of London and I always have to go when I'm down in London. But I also love New York and it was great to spend time there with my new favourite chick lit character. Also in the first book I didn't really take to the character of Oscar but in this book he was, quite frankly, fantastic. A great character and I love the friendship between him and Scarlett.

Also in the first book I loved Sean and was quite worried with this one when it looked like things were going wrong between them and I would have been disappointed . Another thing I love about these books is the appearances from celebrities! Might be a bit difficult to get them to be in a film if one was ever made but that's the thing I love about fiction, absolutely anything can happen and in this book it certainly does.

Usually you end up guessing partway through a book what is going to happen and maybe because I read the book so fast I didn't click on where the story was going but the 'twist' halfway through the book was fantastic and I definitely didn't see it coming. Much like the first book everything flows very well and you really do just lose yourself in the world Ali has created. I loved reading about New York and all the touristy places that Scarlet and Oscar went to and as with the first book, there are plenty of coincidences that you wouldn't expect to happen in a large city but which aren't *too* unbelievable.

If you are a fan of chick lit and haven't read From Notting Hill with Love... Actually then you need to get it read ASAP and add this book to the top of your to read list. Both are fantastic reads and I cannot wait to read about Scarlett again, I hope the wait isn't too long. It baffles me why women are wasting their time reading terribly written books (mentioning no names) when there are amazing books like this waiting to be read. Do not miss this. The fact I read it in a few hours speaks volumes, if ever a book was unputdownable it is this one.

This is the first ever book I've pre-ordered on my kindle. I just couldn't wait for it a second longer than I had to. It lived up to all the expectations I had from the first book and then some. Scarlett's character got even more likeable and I thoroughly enjoyed Oscar's exploits. Jamie and Max were an entertaining pair and Peter and the children at Sunnyside were all adorable. I'd advise not to read until you've read From Notting Hill to Love...Actually, because together they are pure escapism. Absolutely brilliant!

I absolutely loved the first book of the series, but felt somewhat let down by this book.

All the usually characters were back, and there were a few new ones to get to know. I liked them all, and the plot was good, but I just didn't enjoy it as much.

It was all a bit too predictable. I had my suspicions really early on, and then at half way though it was confirmed.

What I did love was the movie references at the end. I loved the end! It brought back some of what I fell in love with in the first book.

Loved this book. It was such a head warming tale. A real feel-good easy read for a winters afternoon. Not a bad word to say. The first person view point worked really well for this novel where sometimes it can get a little frustrating. Ali McNamara writes beautifully. Highly recommended to all chick-lit lovers out there!

Adorable. Initially wasn't fond of Sean's character and thought the Jamie story line was heading some place else, but the final chapter was an absolute dream. Would recommend to anyone looking for a chick flick on a lazy Sunday.

I read this straight after it’s predecessor and was not expecting it to beat it on shocks and star rating but it did. From the back of the book the description sounds so like the first book where Scarlett isn’t 100% happy in life so goes on another adventure this time to New York where she meets Jamie. She questions why if she is so in love with Sean does Jamie bring something to her life?? I really thought oh no how could she leave Sean who is my new book crush but there is way more to this book and I couldn’t put it down. The book is full of romance, humour and so much more.. A perfect chick lit book!!

Scarlett O'Brien, utterly and addicted to romantic films, has found her leading man. She's convinced Sean is Mr Right, but the day-to-day reality of a relationship isn't quite like the movies. With Sean constantly away on business, Scarlett and her new best friend Oscar decide to head to New York for the holiday of a lifetime. From one famous landmark to the next, Scarlett and Oscar make many new friends during their adventure - including sailors in town for Fleet Week, a famous film star, and Jamie & Max,a Tv Reporter and cameraman.
Scarlett finds herself strangely drawn to Jamie, they appear to have much in common: a love of films and Jamie's search for a parent he never knew. But Scarlett has to ask herself why she is reacting like this to another man when she's so in love with Sean...

First of all, I've gotta say I adored this book! I loved her first one From Notting Hill With Love...Actually where we first meet the lovely Scarlett and Sean. Just a pointer for New readers of Ali McNamara's new book, you don't need to have read her first book because the first couple of chapters do explain few things from the first book.

This book just topped it off, it was great to catch up with the characters and carry on from where we left off seeing into the home life of Scarlett and Sean but also meeting new characters when we hit New York. Things for Scarlett & Sean are going brilliant until however, when Sean is always away with work,Scarlett finds herself getting very lonely and missing Sean a lot, When something crops up and Scarlett gets the chance to go to New York she jumps at the chance and takes her new best friend Oscar with her. They go on a holiday of a lifetime i must say...One they will never forget...

I really did enjoy this book, all the characters were fab and they are mixed in together and the chapters flowed really well, You never once forget a character or get puzzled with the story. It flows great, a bit like a rollercoaster hehe! I couldn't possibly chose a favourite character because I loved them all!

I loved the way Ali describes all the places and scenery in New York which definitely made me want to jump on a plane to there right away! When I found out that Ali was writing a sequel to From Notting Hill With Love....Actually, I just couldn't wait to grab a copy hehe!
This book is your typical chick lit book, which you need to curl up with a nice cuppa and some chocolate and get stuck in! it is an exciting read that has lots of laughter, crying, drama, friendships. A couple of times while reading this book I wanted to sing Frank Sinatra's New York New York hehe! The way Ali describe's everything just makes it seem such a perfect city to visit! I was very envious of her having to research there hehe! If your a big lover of Chick lit films then you are going to love this! Just like in her first book..lots of big films were mentioned like Love Actually and Notting Hill There is even more mentioned in this book of course the fabulous Breakfast At Tiffanys and much much more!

I really did love the ending! It was a true perfect happy ending which will leave you feeling very happy & smiley! Ali McNamara has once again done us proud and the whole book is written terrifically. You will certainly laugh, cry, be sad but will feel like you have been on one heck of a rollercoaster at the end. You must go grab a copy now! I Thank the lovely Jo Wickham at Little Brown for my copy.

From Notting Hill to New York … Actually continues Scarlett’s adventures. I thoroughly enjoyed her escapades in From Notting Hill with Love … Actually and couldn’t wait to read about Scarlett’s new adventures.

The story opens with Scarlett and Sean at home in Notting Hill. Sean’s had man flu and been at home. We’re brought up to date with their lives. Scarlett’s father has set up a New York branch of their business.

Straight away we’re into the fun that Scarlett seems to attract. Off to the gym with best friend Oscar, they have to stop off at the TV studios. Scarlett is mistaken for the new fitness expert for a morning show – this is hilarious. The visuals had me in stitches! After she’s been kicked off the show and evicted from the building, in the taxi Oscar tells her the incident reminded him of the ‘old Scarlett’ and he poses a question that makes her think about her relationship with Sean. From this we intuit that life may not be quite as she expected …

Oscar wants to take a jacket to be assessed on the Antiques Roadshow so Scarlett decides to take a dragonfly brooch that belongs to her father. It doesn’t get valued and because of the mystery surrounding it, Sean tells Scarlett to go to New York to see her father … and with Oscar accompanying her, the adventure begins!

There is so much action packed into their time in New York as Scarlett tries to find out more about the brooch. Having used it for a good deed, when the truth is found out, there’s another hunt to try and find the new owner. At one point, Sean acts on information he’s been given and decides to surprise her. He finds her in her hotel room in what could be considered a compromising position – this scene had me laughing and I’m still smiling now in remembrance!

Once again family is central to the plot. Having felt like a piece was missing when she didn’t know who her mother was, Scarlett develops a passion for reuniting families. Her time spent in the children’s home is very poignant. While I’m on the subject of families, I loved Scarlett and Oscar’s visit to Ellis Island. Genealogy is a passion of mine and I could identify with how Oscar was feeling.

McNamara’s writing style carries you along and the characters draw you into the plot. The characters are vibrant and alive and Oscar’s character follows through … he is still as entertaining as he was on Scarlett’s first escapades.

I can’t end my review without mentioning the treasure hunt. This is a fabulous idea and crafted so well that I felt as if I was also on the hunt, going from movie clue to movie clue and meeting each clue holder as I went along. It’s such a unique way to present this age-old ritual … so romantic!

From Notting Hill to New York … Actually is a chick lit novel I have no hesitation in recommending. There’s a lot more to the story than the romance and you will certainly be entertained … and it has the feel-good factor.

I would like to thank the publishers for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED the first book of this series and that’s why I was really excited about book #2. The ending of the first book was stunning and I didn’t expect that at all from Sean.
Sean and Scarlett are such an adorable couple and I really wanted to read more about the two of them.

They have settled in in his house in Notting Hill now. Sean is away a lot on business and something seems to be missing from Scarlett’s life. The excitement is kind of gone.

She decides to go to New York and visit her dad, Sean can’t make it, but her best friend Oscar is going with her. And the adventure starts…

It’s the holiday of a lifetime, of course connected to a lot of New York movies and all these great sights. Scarlett meets a lot of great people, one of them is an actual movie star and the scenes with him are really funny and entertaining. She also meets Jamie and Max from a UK TV channel. Scarlett feels in instant connection to Jamie, but doesn’t know why. She loves Sean and she misses him. When Sean suddenly shows up and Max and Jamie are in Scarlett’s hotel room the misunderstandings start.
Scarlett is also on the journey of finding out the background of a brooch that was her fathers. What she discovers is surprising and exciting at the same time… And it inspires her to open another business.

Getting to know Jamie had a refreshing touch and Oscar had a big part in this book as well. He just added the so much spark to it. I have to admit, I just love Scarlett and Sean together, so I really missed him when Scarlett went to New York. That doesn’t mean that I enjoyed the story any less though. The entertainment factor is really high. This novel is gripping, vivid, hilarious and just AWESOME!!!
It’s a novel full love, family, friendship, laughter and so many special places. The way Ali described New York and it’s unique sights was amazing, full of details and I just felt like being there with Scarlett. I really wanna go to New York now!!!
The characters are all so unique and special. It starts with beautiful Scarlett and her movie obsession and goes over to gorgeous and perfect Sean. I think I fell in love with him even more. Jamie and Max are great, full of energy and I love how Jamie’s role developed. Also Scarlett’s mum and dad get their parts again.

I said the ending was brilliant in the last book, it’s FABULOUS here as well. Movie connected, everybody is involved and it couldn’t be any cuter and emotional. Full of love <3 This makes me so excited for book #3, I hope I get the chance to read it soon!!!

An awesome chick-lit novel, it will definitely leave a huge smile on your face and you never wanna leave Scarlett’s world again!!!

Just like the first one I read this around Christmas time as it’s such a sweet cheesy chick lit read.

The second one didn’t disappoint! Yes it’s quite predictable and a little far fetched but just the easy read I was hoping for to get me into the festive period.

Very, very strong 4 stars.
Rellay nice, fast reading, sometimes just too obvious and too cliche. Scarlett is just so prone to accident but on the other hand she is a really nice person. From time to time I was really desperate with Sean and wanted to slap him, his questions and investigations were too much for me. Oscar - I adored Oscar, he was the best bit in the book and it wouldn't be such a read without him. Please, I want a book about Oscar now :)
Although I must say I'm a little tired with books with NY theme. Going there, falling in love with the city, wanting to stay there... And the last chapters when Scarlett is chasing after the clues were just too much for me. I understand that Ali is in love with the city but I could do without the city guide - although I understand, too, that it must be like this.
The thing with the brooch was at the beginning too obvious for me, as well, but I didn't expect how it is going to end, so no harm done :) All in all, nice ideas mixed with some cliched ones, but nevertheless - super read.

Ughhhhhh... this broke my heart. Seriously. I LOVED part 1. I even recommended to several people on Goodreads. Part 2 felt different and dare I say even childish. I HATE when authors make a real famous person a fictional character in their book. Also, I didn't like the family drama. Scarlett just needed to explore the city based on the films she loved although, the whole New York trip felt pointless. Is it just me or lately is the new trend to make every sequel to a chick-lit set in New York City? I mean don't get me wrong, I adore NYC but let's move on please. This is my home and I'm crazy proud of it buttttt not everyone needs to travel here to learn a love lesson and discover that their boyfriend is the one.

I couldn't put this book down and read it very quickly, even though the outcome was pretty predictable. Another feel good book along a similar vein to the author's other books, except the heroine had already fallen in love in the last book. I did think all the events were a bit too convenient and had sussed out who Jamie was as soon as she met him as there was some serious signposting going on, but the characters were laugh out loud funny, especially Oscar, Scarlett's gay best friend and her boyfriend's ex is a total nightmare!

A heart-warming story of serendipity and magical co-incidences. Just what you need in the cold snap of March when the snow is on the ground and all you want to do is snuggle up in bed with a romantic novel to keep you warm.

I love the writing, and the story as a whole. Except that some of it came off as a bit much, and fake (or should I say, too far-fetched). Too many coincidences and the bits about Bradley Cooper are just.. meh. It is exciting, but I feel like the author is trying to sell the MC a bit too much for my liking. Also, for reasons I can't really understand, I don't like Scarlett much. She isn't likeable. Not to me anyway. It feels like the other characters are all rushed to just like her. All of a sudden you just like her when you've just met her.. but I don't see it, honestly. I like Sean more, and even Peter. And all the coincidences.. they're too, stereotypically happy ending movie kind of thing.
Still, I didn't hate it.

I saw this book in Tesco one day and I decided to buy it as I'm in love with Richard Curtis' work in films especially Love Actually. I started reading it at the start of this month and at first I couldn't really get into it and I thought I would end up not being able to finish it but then finally after my exams were over I decided I would sit there and just read and I just loved it. There is a huge plot twist in the book that just makes it so much more interesting and I love how it happens over one simple thing. I just loved how Ali McNamara brought everything and everyone all together over one simple thing.

Milking books when there is really nothing to tell..my worst. Couples who have to break up in order to get back together, just so there's something happening. This is basically just a chick lit book written by the author to get stay alive. The first book was a long but slightly pretty chick lit. Scarletts story should have just been left there. There is nothing more I want to know about her.
Sorry.

The first half of the book is cute and sweet, but kinda boring too...a three star rating at this point. But then the main character Scarlett discovers need and charity which she actively persues....increasing my rating to four stars. The ending is delighful, joyful and super duper romantic in a lovely 'rom-com' way that I find endearing...making my final rating 5 stars. 💖💖

Scarlett was just as lovable but I found the storyline a little too outlandish (I know it's fiction but it just seemed too much) and a bit predictable. I still loved it though overall!

I really enjoyed this book but a lot of it was very predictable! Definitely no where near as good as the first!
