I have been debating endlessly about my rating for this book, because it has honestly been all over the place while reading. Because of that, I just picked an average number and would like to suggest reading my words rather than trusting the stars.
"Penny for Your Saints" is the start to a contemporary omegaverse duet that includes the FBI, law enforcement, corruption, conspiracies and quite a lot of secrets along the way. I enjoyed the overall storyline and how a simple investigation slowly turns into a whole mess with revelations nobody was really waiting for. It took me a while to get to this feeling though, because the first half of this book felt like an entirely different mess. I honestly had the feeling the author wanted to make sure spice was introduced as early as possible, so a lot of information had to be cramped into the first few chapters. I couldn't keep track of all the characters and background, and seriously debated keeping a notebook next to me to write it all down. Also, relationship building is non-existent before they start shedding clothes. I know some people prefer their books like this, but for me it was just way too much at once, and I think I would have prefered a trilogy with a slower burn level.
So, as a result, I really struggled with the first half of this book. It's one of the reasons why it took me that many days to get through it, but once I reached around 60% I started to see what the author wanted to achieve with this story. That was the time when everything started to make more sense in my mind, the flow of the storyline became less chaotic and the characters started become individual people instead of a bunch of them thrown together. I guess it depends on what you're looking for in a book to know if this one will work for you or not. If you love fast burn, don't care about connections between the characters, want lots of spice (like 50% or more) and love to slowly unravel a mess, this might be perfect for you. I personally hope the second book will match with the second half of this book and not the first half, because that part wasn't for me. Still, I became invested in the storyline, and now I'm curious to find out if more fated mates will be added, or not.
