Some songs can change the world. His might save it.

When fourteen-year-old Xylo throws his sacred seed into the river, he doesn't just give up his chance at immortality—he starts a chain reaction that will shake all six realms of Melodor. Fleeing to New Eden, the realm of humans, he discovers a world of impossible machines, floating ships, and music that pulses with the power of the realm. Armed with nothing but his handmade lute, Xylo dreams of becoming a balladeer punk musician in the legendary city of Anchorton.

But the city holds darker secrets than street gangs and corrupt politicians. A powerful scarlet knight is using ancient spirits to control minds across the realms, and somehow Xylo's music is the only thing that can break their hold. With help from his newfound bandmates and a mysterious girl from the realm of Light, Xylo must uncover the truth about his destiny before the realms are sealed forever.

Enter a world where songs can purify evil, dreamwalkers bridge time itself, and a mortal musician might be the legendary knight everyone's been waiting for. THE LEGEND MAKER is a thrilling adventure about finding where you belong—even if it's exactly where you tried to run away from.

Daniel Paul Rowell has always been a storyteller at heart, having spent his younger years either lost in the pages of a good book or reenacting entire movie scenes after a single watch—much to the amusement (and occasional concern) of his family.

Nowadays, he’s taken to his trusty keyboard to craft the epic tales he imagined all along; where the impossible becomes the everyday, and every adventure starts with a leap of faith. When he’s not dreaming up new worlds or nudging his characters toward greatness, you might catch him strumming his guitar or losing at chess. Because, as the great Durwood Fincher (AKA Mr. Doubletalk) once said, “Mistakes are just stepping stones . . . to failure.”

But beneath all the fantasy and fun, D.P. Rowell writes with a purpose: to inspire readers to find their own courage, trust in a greater plan, and embrace the adventure of life—no matter where they start. So, if you’re up for a journey filled with wonder, mystery, and maybe a few laughs along the way, you’ve come to the right place. Daniel is here to guide you through the story, one gripping chapter at a time.

A fantastic genre-defying read that is honestly unlike anything I’ve read before. Imagine if Lord of the Rings, Bioshock: Infinite, and School of Rock were all part of the same universe and you get this book.

This is a story that’s about standing for truth and goodness even when it costs you, the relentless pursuit of dreams despite the odds, and the messy, often chaotic journey of discovering who you are and where you belong—all while showing the value of having the right people in your court…or band ;)

The Legend Maker is filled with relatable (and very punk-rock) characters, a vast world filled with realms and races that are begging to be explored, and a cliffhanger that left me beyond excited to read the next book. A solid read for 2025!

It's been a long time coming, but I'm excited to be coming back around with this new series. This is the full-novel prequel, which is free to anyone who signs up to my newsletter at dprowell.com.

Over the past two-ish years, I've been collecting scraps of things I've been working on for the past 8-10 years and compiling them into this new fantasy series. I'm over the moon excited to get the first book released, and this prequel was one of my favorite books I've ever written. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it :)
