Win Some Love Some

"An Epic Age-gap, Friends to Lovers romance!"

I waited until my 18th birthday to tell my best friend, Nick, I loved him. That I wanted him to be my first. Even though he was twelve years older than me, I knew he was my person. He’d always been my person. But when I showed up at his apartment he was with…Sheila. Ugh. I thought we were meant to be. He thought I was a kid with a crush. I did the only thing I could do. I left for school and a new life. Until that life fell apart.

Now, six years later, I’m back in Calico Cove living with my parents, broke, jobless and trying my best to ignore Nick.

Only Nick’s life was just turned upside down when he found out he has two half-brothers, who also happen to be hockey legends, and he needs me more than ever. I’m not going to let myself fall for him again. I’m not going to let him break my heart. I’m not going to…yeah, I think I probably am.

It was such a delight to go back to the world of Calico Cove 🥰 It provides such wonderful escapism. I loved reading about the characters we knew as children, now grown up.

Hailey Shore did a good job handling the age gap, which given that Nick and Nora grew up together as kids, could’ve been a bit icky.

I’m very grateful to have received an ARC! It was so enjoyable to get to revisit the characters I love so much now when they’re all older and their kids are grown.

I love this book. I mean really, really love it. I’ve adored all the Calico Cove and Win Some, Love Some is no exception.

Nick and Nora are the destined to be together hero and heroine. Nora has been weaving in and out of the series when she was a wee tiny baby. Her young mother died and her second cousin Roy stepped forward to. be her guardian in the first book, Happily Ever, Maybe? a delightful Beauty and the Beast retelling that was my introduction to the Amazingly Talented Hailey Sore. Then Nick shows up in the fifth book Can’t Take The Heat which I just recently reread. He’s a young runaway from a very unhappy home who is taken in by the hero and hero. From the first moment she meets Nick as a young child she loves him. And Nick, starved of love is fascinated by this young girl and loves her back.

This book opens on Nora’s 18th birthday when she decides it’s time she and Nick “formalizes’ their deep love for each other. It does not go well. Nick is horrified to discover that Nora wants to move their relationship in an entirely different direction, he is close to 30 and she is 18, than he ever could have imagined and inadvertently breaks Nora’s heart to the point she leaves Calico Cove for 6 years and moves to France. There is no contact between them. Though Nora has become a very successful social influencer and he watches every vlog she makes, constantly missing his best friend. She had brought such joy into his grey world.

But her great life in France horribly falls apart and she has moved back to Calico Cove to recover. The story is about Nick and Nora working through the distance dividing them and it’s such a wonderful story. Nick is so supportive of Nora it almost brings a tear. He has unexpected supporters in his two step brothers. There stories are told in Making The Save and Power Play. You don’t have to have read those books but they are equally wonderful and I gave them both 5 stars.

There’s no question that Hailey Shore is at the top of my favourite authors. If she writes it, I will read it and love every word.

It’s only February, and I know this is going to be my favorite book read this year. I loved everything about this book. Nick and Nora forever!! Hailey Shore knocks this one out of the park.
Nick and Nora grew up together. Even though, Nick was much older than Nora they were always besties and just fit together. On Nora’s eighteenth birthday, she just assumed they’d be together. Nick was completely blindsided. Hurt, Nora headed off to Paris to go to school and eventually stayed there as she became a famous social media influencer. Something happens and she’s back in Calico Cove, living at home. She tries to avoid Nick, but just like when they were kids, they gravitate toward each other. This is where the fun begins.

I loved everything about this story. The writing was top notch. The backstory was well developed. The yummy, wonderful conflict kept me glued to every page from start to finish. The sexual tension was as hot as the spicy scenes. It was worth the wait! I loved seeing Roy and Vanessa and all the Calico Cove characters. Wyatt and Liam were so much fun! This book was everything and had it all. I can’t get enough of Hailey Shore’s books!

I can’t believe this is baby Nora!! Her parent’s book “The Grump, the Bride and the Baby” was my first book by Hailey Shore which I read years ago. I loved it so much and I highly recommend!!

Anyway—I loved this book!! I loved Nick and his grumpy self but I absolutely adored Nora. She was so adorable, witty and hilarious. This was fast paced and very well written. There was excellent tension and banter between them.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS

Nick and Nora grew up together but they are eleven years apart. Nick was like a big brother to her. She’s always been in love with him and always thought they were destined to be together. On her eighteenth birthday, she confesses her love for him and tells him she wants him to be her “first”. Not only is he with another woman when this happens, but he gives her a heartbreaking rejection. Let me tell you— I felt that. It was so well written and I absolutely felt Nora’s devastation.

She leaves town for college and then Paris and has nothing to do with him for six years because she’s so heartbroken and humiliated. She returns home and that’s when he starts to see her in a different light. I felt their reunion and the build up of their relationship was so well done. There was longing and pain. But I loved that Nora didn’t pine for him, and he just could not stay away from her. They were also hilarious together. I laughed out loud so many times in this book. Not just because of them, but because of the other characters (who all have their own books btw). This book is very emotional and Nora and Nick had such intense chemistry.

There’s a few reasons why this was not a five star read for me though.

The sex scenes. I absolutely LOVED that he was so animalistic and out of control for her. But the butt stuff was gross and ruined it for me. Especially for the first time they messed around.

Later, the first time they actually had sex, he takes her from behind and that was so impersonal to me, especially after how far they had come. It had potential to be so intense and emotional and was a let down in that way.

At the end there are two epilogues in which the same exact thing happens. In the second one he proposes at the end. The first epilogue was completely unnecessary and just filler. There’s also another epilogue you can download through prolific works which totally annoyed me because it’s a pain to download files from there.

If not for those things, this would have been a five star read.

Win Some Love Some by Hailey Shore
I received an ARC (advanced reader copy) of this book. I will still purchase it as it is worth re-reading!
Hailey Shore created a wonderful town of Calico Cove filled with wonderful people. They are characters that make you feel welcome in their town and you want to be their best friend. THEN, she discovered that one character, Nick Renard, had two half-brothers, and she created the Locke Brothers series. The last in that series, Win Some Love Some blends the two series seamlessly!
This book is about Nick (from Can’t Take the Heat) and Nora (from The Grump, The Bride, and the Baby).
Nick and Nora (I always hear “Nick and Nora Charles, the Thin Man” quoted in the movie, Miracle). Anyway, Nick and Nora live in Calico Cove. Nora has been in love with Nick since she was 3 or 4 years old, and he was 15. When she tells him on her 18th birthday, their world falls apart. This story shows how people don’t believe in themselves, put other people’s opinion above their own, and how family (especially the chosen family) can make it better.
I loved this story. It seemed to be an ending, but Nora has many siblings that need their story told.

What a thrilling conclusion to the Nick and Nora saga! This journey, a testament to the resilience of love, has been a long time coming since Nick first appeared in Anthony and Birdie's story. The tension between him and Nora has been palpable, especially after her heartfelt confession on her 18th birthday was met with his immediate rejection. The angst that followed stretched over several years, leaving readers on the edge of their seats.

Nora's transformative trip to Paris and her return to Calico Cove felt like a dance of fate, constantly nudged by well-meaning relatives and friends. It's almost as if the universe conspired to bring them back into each other's lives, and that sense of destiny is just so captivating.

One of the most touching aspects of the story is Nick's deepening connection with his half-brothers and his unconditional love for his adopted family. Every time I think about it, I can't help but feel a wave of emotion wash over me. After experiencing Roy and Vanessa's romance and their love for Nora, I was taken aback to discover Nora grappling with feelings of being an outsider. Although her adoption didn't evoke the same intensity of abandonment that Nick faced, it still stirred those poignant themes subtly yet powerfully, making their emotional journey a compelling read.

Seeing these two finally come together was nothing short of magical. Nora's worries about the entire town of Calico Cove having a stake in their relationship added a layer of tension and intrigue. It's a delight to read their journey through all those trying years until they could finally embrace what was always meant to be. With fate continually pushing them together and the challenges of their past lingering, every moment in their story is a beautifully crafted adventure.

A 4.5 from me! I finished it in one sitting.

Finally, the long awaited next generation of Calico Cove is here!! When I read the epilogue in the last Calico Cove book, I was so shook about the next generation hint and that Nick and Nora would get a story!

When we first met Nick and Nora, they were both in a similar situation at different stages in their lives. Nick was an angsty teen that found safety living with Antony and Birdie. Nora was just a tiny baby being raised by her Uncle Roy and became the glue that brought her aunt and uncle together. I adored both of their parents books and if you haven’t read them, drop everything and read the Calico Cove series now!

I knew that with a good Hailey Shore book meant great ANGST. And we definitely got that with the gut wrenching intro of Nora confessing her feelings to Nick and getting rejected. The fallout and the years of distance hurt so much. But when Nora comes back, they very slowly begin to reconnect.

Once they click, Nick becomes feral. Their chemistry goes beyond the friendship they had before and adds in all the very hot tension. I loved it. Roy and Vanessa were very prominent in this book and added a lot of laughs.

One tiny tiny thing I wasn’t a fan of was Nora not experiencing great sex during her time away. She’s not wrong that sex with someone you love is totally different but I feel that I’m tired of the trope that the guy is a total man-whore and she doesn’t get a satisfying sex life when they’re apart. Let her have some fun too!

Super cute age gap, best friends to lovers, he couldn’t see what’s right in front of him and let her slip away, she put it all on the line and left totally destroyed, romance! The list of ways Nick and Nora worm their way into your heart is just about endless as Nora comes home after six years with a need to be in the one place she feels steady and safe to lick a few newly acquired wounds and regroup and Nick sees his chance to get back his best friend. There’s dubious advice, big overprotective found family, the slow realization she might have been right all along, fear and vulnerability, wedding dates, revenge dresses, side bets on will they or won’t they, and that does she still feel the same and can he risk losing her again to find out thing that keeps you hanging on every word and ripping through the pages as fast you can.

This is just a super enjoyable read from start to finish. It’s easy to see how Nick could be blind and deny anything between him and Nora, he watched her grow up, he’s friends with her dad, and he’s got emotional scars and baggage that put him firmly in the she’s my friend and has to stay that way because she’s my light, my warmth, and my one steady relationship that he absolutely can’t lose, making it safer to have her friendship than take the risk on more. It’s a little bit right time, a lot six years apart changed everything and yet absolutely nothing, always meant to be and everyone but Nick knew it, charm the heck out of you, romance, and it feels so right.

I really loved this book. Nick and Nora, kinda questionable age gap aside, have a really strong bond and it comes through in every aspect of their developing and changing relationship. They know and trust each other so well, even after years apart. They have a period of time where they don't speak at all, and I felt it was necessary for both of their characters to develop, especially Nora. The book starts with Nick and Nora having different perspectives of their bond. Nora is in love with Nick, but there are so many reasons they could not have been in a relationship when she was 18, including the fact he, a 29 year old man, felt like they were friends or siblings, and hadn't ever thought of her in a romantic context. Their relationship starts to rebuild about 6 years after a confrontation, and she avoids him like the plague at first, and then they become friends again, still not really picturing a relationship together at first. They had that comfortable platform to build into a relationship, but they aren't the same people as they were before they stopped talking. They get to learn each other again, with the support of townspeople we already know and love. Calico Cove has been one of my favorite book series because it feels like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket. It's effortlessly comfortable. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this book.

Nick and Nora grew up together, being best friends, even with him being eleven years older.
They understood each other, both being adopted. Nora was the light in Nick’s life.
On her 18th birthday, she finally confesses her true feelings for him. But it’s not their time, not yet…
The bond between these two, even with the fallout, is unbreakable. They may have missed a few years in each other’s lives, deep down, they still care for each other. Now that Nora is really grown up, Nick starts to see her differently, like a real woman. And he realizes what he has been missing all those years.
Nora is an independent woman, but after what happened in France, she had to go back home and love with her parents. The brave woman that she is, she doesn’t back down after the humiliation.
Nick is still healing from his past before he came to Calico Cove. He keeps things to himself, but when Nora is around, he starts to open up more and starts to accept the chances that are happening around him.

Nick and Nora’s Story!

I absolutely loved this book! I have loved Nick and Nora since I met them in their parents’ books and their story did not disappoint. There is quite a bit of heartache to overcome in their story but there are lots of laugh out loud moments too. Wyatt and Liam giving advice to Nick was absolutely perfect! Although this book is a standalone, I recommend reading the other two in the series first to get the backstory with Wyatt and Liam. You will enjoy the scenes with them so much more if you read their books first. And I loved the ‘confrontation’ with Roy and Vanessa! I can’t say more because I don’t do spoilers, but OMG that was so perfect! I also loved when Mal and Nick were dining together at Petite III. Mal and Jolie’s book (Happily Ever Maybe?) was the first Hailey Shore book I read so they hold a special place in my heart. I love the glimpses of their HEA in the other books.

Nora is all grown up! If you're new to the Calico Cove universe, we first saw her as a baby in The Grump, The Bride, and The Baby. Next gen books can be fun, and Win Some Love Some was definitely that.

Nora and Nick have always been close, despite an 11 year age gap. They're both adopted, and that was something they'd bonded over. When Nora turns 18, she decides to make her move, believing she and Nick are destined to be together, and it doesn't go well.

Now it's years laer, and Nora is returning to Calico Cove after a difficult experience abroad. Nick pushes her to be friends again, but then his feelings start to change. His newfound brothers try to help him navigate this. Is Nora willing to risk being burned again? Will the remnants of her time away cause complications?

Hailey Shore's books are a good mix of heart and steam. I can't wait for the next in the series!

Yes, there is an easy way to irritate a lot of readers: make your main female character fluent in a language, then go on to make her mangle every single word of that language she uses. If you really want to boast some knowledge of French, as is the case here, at least find someone who really knows the language re-read, just in case.
In fact, Nora’s French is so bad that she couldn’t have survived on it in France. Maybe she could have cried fire, but not much more.
The continued story of the brothers would otherwise be an engaging read. Serious at times, with a lot of angst in the main protagonists, zany traits in some characters, a lot of family love all over, an off page (mostly) villain and a dubious friend, it has everything to hold the reader to the end. Although the ending of the series was a foregone conclusion, the brothers never stopped being highly entertaining and Calico Cove is a place where lots of people would love to live. If only they learned French before they tried to use it!

Fun and Different!

I love how she has a lot of age gap relationships that work so well that Nick was able to use a reference when processing his feelings changing for Nora.

She was a sister to him, that morphed into a best friend that morphed into more but he didn’t see it until he started to and then it hit him hard and he couldn’t deny that his feelings had changed to romantic.

They were so cute together and it was a lot of fun to see him come out of his shell for her!

This is such a well told age gap. I loved that Nick truly didn't see Nora in a romantic way until she was into her 20s. I love that Roy spoke the words that Nora needed time to grow up. Because yes, an 18 year old knows love, but an 18 year old doesn't usually know how to navigate an actual relationship. That's what made me love the telling of this story. I also loved his developing relationship with his brothers, added comedy for sure. The only thing that dropped it to 4 stars, was some of the spicey scenes got a tad weird...lol. But I get it, they were best friends for years.

DNF at 36%. I like a lot of Hailey Shore’s books, but this one just isn’t it. Nora is clownishly foolish and immature. Not just falling for a creepy scammer, but in the way she ambushed Nick on her birthday, the way she stayed away from her family for years because of it, the way she acts when she gets a job, it’s all just too much. She’s so unlikeable. I kind of wanted to finish the book for Nick’s story, but I just can’t.

Romantic comedy bliss

I absolutely adore the world that Haley sure has built and all the characters and the way she waves everyone’s storyline together, and I can’t believe Nora is all grown up, but it is without a doubt one of the best romances. I’ve read in a really really long time. And now, of course I need to go back and start all over again.

I loved this book! I also love a book with no grammatical errors, and this was perfect!

This was a pretty good read. It was pretty low angst, which is surprising considering the way the book started. I wish we would have seen a little more of Nora & Nick's lives when they were separated. Some parts were kind of predictable but that didn't bother me too bad. I haven't read any of the other books in this series but I didn't have any problem following along.

I really liked this one. A clueless male meets determined female.
Nick doesnt do well with feelings after having to shut them down in an abusive home. Nora is all in with her feelings especially about Nick.

This was just OK. I really just got bored towards the end. Nora basically threw herself at Nick. Which was what most of the book was about. And then towards the end, he realized he loves her all along. Parts of are just cringeworthy. And cliche sex scenes.

I’ve been waiting for Nick and Nora’s story, and it didn’t disappoint!! These two first appeared in the Calico Cove series, and I loved their sweet relationship. While this book is part of a different series, it featured many familiar faces from Calico Cove that I was so happy to read about again.

After a disastrous love confession gone wrong when Nora turned eighteen, she comes back after six years of avoiding Nick.
Their dynamic has changed, but the love between them is still there. Nick misses his best friend, and when Nora returns, he wrestles with his changing feelings. They’re both trying to navigate the awkwardness of what happened, and I loved watching Nora make Nick squirm.

Bittersweet to read the last book in Calico Cove but excited for the next series Hailey Shore has in store!

I was hoping Nick would get his own book when he came into town as a teenager with Birdie and Antony. I love friends to lovers. Nick and his emotional attachment issues and Nora just wanting to love her best friend.

Just to be clear, this is just my personal take—everyone experiences stories differently, so others might feel totally differently about the book.
