EXCERPT: 'He doesn't look as though he's having much fun. But then, who is?'
Dee thought for a moment. 'No,' she admitted, 'no one is. Brendan's sciatica dominates our lives. He can only sleep sitting up. And . . .' she dropped her voice. 'I think I might have social anxiety. Comes with age, apparently. I thought you got more confident as you got older but it's not always the case.'
'I'm a bit like that,' admitted Ciara.
'Me three,' said Jimbo. 'I like to go home after my shift and stay home.'
'That's what I do,' said Ciara, wrapping up Jimbo's sandwich. 'I watch Scandi-noir . . .'
'I like those home improvement shows,' said Jimbo. 'You know, when they begin with an unrealistically small budget, go years over schedule, and are shadows of their former selves by the end. But at least they have a fancy kitchen.' He took the sandwich from Ciara. 'See you, ladies. Don't get into any trouble, now, will you?' He laughed. 'Except that's exactly what we should be doing?'
Ciara laughed. 'Chance would be a fine thing.' One day, she thought, she'd be off having an exciting life. She just had to get off her arse and do something about it.

MY THOUGHTS: Another absolutely delightful story set in Sandycove, Ireland.

I really relish my time spent in Sandycove with its eclectic mix of residents. I have read two previous books set in this community and loved them both.

If We Could Turn Back Time is a lovely read centered around the theme of family and friendship with just a little mystery flowing through the storyline. The answer to the mystery was a bit of a shocker!

Three generations of the Murphy family women are the focus of If We Could Turn Back Time. Alice, who is Ciara's daughter, Ciara, and her mother Eva. Ciara has lived all her life in Sandycove and, although she loves her home and family, feels she is in a rut. She remembers the dreams she and Mary-Marg had when they finished school; dreams that were never realised and probably never would be. Alice's return home from Australia for a holiday seems to spark all sorts of changes in the small community, but what is going to happen when she returns to Australia?

I loved these characters and the relationships between the Murphy grandmother, mother and daughter. I loved their backstories which provided the mystery and a lot of pleasure. Even the supporting characters are a hoot, and it is interesting to watch their attitudes to life change as the book progresses. Murphy's, the village shop, is an ideal setting for much of the story.

If you are wanting something warm and wonderful to read, you won't do better than pick up a Siân O'Gorman book. Sandycove is a wonderful place!

My favorite quote: . . . being able to be cranky and not all sweetness and light is the best thing about being old.

⭐⭐⭐⭐.2

This was first book by this author, but it won’t be my last. I really enjoyed being taken into the heart of the Murphy family. I loved that the story line was multi generational and everyone was tied to the same point of history.

What a twist and a surprise, I was reading along and with each page turned I was willing them to reveal the secrets to me, there was a point I thought it was going to remain a secret and we would be left to draw our own conclusion, I was so pleased to find out the secret, and also so very shocked. (Don’t want to give too many spoilers).

I enjoyed learning about the history of the shop Murphy’s and watching it change with the times, Alice has some great ideas, inspired from her time in Australia, seems to be just the right injection of sunshine the little Irish village needs. And seeing her grow closer to Max was great, a perfect combination to help keep local shops and live growing well into the future.

A really great read, full of love, family and friendship, great for curling up with and getting lost amongst the pages.

A fantastic book with 3 generations of woman. A daughter returns home to spend time with her mother and grandmother. She ends up finding and realizing some things that she didn't know but really missed while she was gone. Transformations happen and surprises occur at the end to make you smile, cry and happy for the everyone and the village they live in. I'd love to run away to this Irish village.

If We Could Turn Back Time is my eighth book by Siàn O' Gorman. I love all the books by her that I've reviewed so far. The ones located in Sandycove, like this one, are extra special because of Sandycove being so atmospheric.

The two families are very complex and expertly created. I really liked how Becca and Alice saw each other again, and I wasn't expecting that. Conal and Becca are good together.

Murphy's is a very atmospheric store, and it is an important place for the community.

Themes are family, community, coming home and where home actually is, as well as the passage of time and what you do with your life.

There are so many characters in this novel, and I did feel a little confused at times because of that and all the backstory and I felt a little lost.

I did like Mary Marg and Ciara and their plans for bringing the nightclub back, that was fun.

4 stars

Absolutely wonderful!

Alice Murphy lives in Australian but you can take the girl out of Ireland but you can't take Ireland out of the girl. She returns home from time to time to her mother and grandmother but this time feels different. Coming home on the back of yet another break-up has made Alice a bit introspective and she can't decide what she sees in her future . . .

This has everything I love in a book! Family, a dash of mystery, memories - from different generations - and friendships, old and new and a stunning location. Never a dull moment with this one and a few surprises along the way. As always, Sian O'Gorman writes beautifully and keeps her readers in the palm of her hand from first to last. Terrifically enjoyable and one I'm very happy to highly recommend and give all five sparkling stars.

Siân O'Gorman's latest offering, If We Could Turn Back Time, is a compelling exploration of family, belonging, and the weight of secrets that span generations. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Sandycove, Dublin's charming coastal village, this contemporary women's fiction novel weaves together themes of homecoming, second chances, and the courage required to confront uncomfortable truths.

At thirty, Alice Murphy finds herself at a crossroads. After a decade of seemingly carefree living in Perth, Australia, the allure of freedom and endless sunshine has begun to fade. When a relationship with surfer boyfriend Sebastian ends with barely a ripple of emotion, Alice realizes she's been living half a life—unencumbered but also unrooted. A serendipitous school closure provides the perfect opportunity for an extended visit home to Sandycove, where her mother Ciara and beloved grandmother Eva run the century-old family deli, Murphy's.

The Heart of Sandycove: Murphy's Deli as Character

O'Gorman demonstrates her considerable skill in making settings feel lived-in and authentic. Murphy's isn't merely a backdrop—it pulses with the rhythms of village life, from the morning queue for Irish breakfast to the carefully curated Friday night wine boxes that Alice introduces. The author's intimate knowledge of Irish coastal communities shines through in every detail, from the granite step worn smooth by a century of feet to the particular jingle of the bell that announces each customer's arrival.

The deli serves as both sanctuary and anchor for three generations of Murphy women. Eva, sharp-witted despite her advancing years, still walks up Killiney Hill daily and swims with her friends. Ciara, approaching fifty and feeling life passing her by, pours her energy into running the shop while nursing old wounds. Alice, the prodigal daughter returned, begins to see the shop not as a limitation but as a foundation for the rooted life she's finally ready to embrace.

Layered Storytelling That Rewards Patient Readers

O'Gorman's narrative structure cleverly mirrors the way family secrets emerge—gradually, through seemingly casual conversations and chance discoveries. The story unfolds through multiple perspectives, allowing readers to understand each character's motivations while building suspense about the connections between past and present.

The romance subplot between Alice and Max, the charming bookshop owner next door, develops with refreshing authenticity. Their relationship builds on shared appreciation for books, late-night walks, and genuine compatibility rather than manufactured drama. Max's discovery of a letter in a box of books becomes the catalyst that unravels thirty years of carefully guarded secrets.

The Blake Family Legacy: When the Past Refuses to Stay Buried

The novel's most compelling element is its exploration of how one person's choices can ripple across generations. Dolores Blake, the formidable matriarch known as Dol, emerges as a complex antagonist whose past affair with young Lorcan Kennedy set in motion a chain of events that affected multiple families. O'Gorman handles this revelation with nuance, avoiding the temptation to paint Dol as simply villainous.

The truth about Conal Blake's parentage—that he's actually Alice's half-brother, born of Dol's affair with the same man who abandoned Alice's pregnant mother—provides the novel's most shocking twist. Yet O'Gorman grounds this melodramatic revelation in genuine emotion, focusing on how the characters process and heal from these revelations rather than sensationalizing the secret itself.

Character Development That Rings True
Alice Murphy: Her journey from rootless wanderer to committed community member feels authentic rather than rushed
Ciara Murphy: The middle generation caught between caring for aging parents and supporting adult children while nursing old heartbreak
Eva Murphy: The wise grandmother who proves she still has secrets and strength in reserve
Conal Blake: A young man discovering his entire identity was built on lies, handled with appropriate psychological complexity
The Author's Voice: Gentle Humor Meets Emotional Depth

O'Gorman writes with a light touch that never minimizes the emotional weight of her story. Her dialogue sparkles with wit—Eva's observations about the succession of shops next to Murphy's or Max's walking book club discussions provide moments of levity that feel natural rather than forced. The author has a particular gift for capturing the rhythms of Irish conversation, the way information is shared and withheld in small communities.

The prose style is accessible and warm, reminiscent of Maeve Binchy's ability to make readers feel like welcomed guests at a family gathering. O'Gorman doesn't shy away from difficult emotions—grief, abandonment, betrayal—but she handles them with a mature perspective that acknowledges pain while emphasizing resilience and growth.

Themes That Resonate Beyond the Page

If We Could Turn Back Time succeeds in addressing several contemporary concerns within its seemingly cozy setting. The novel explores:

The tension between personal freedom and family obligation
How secrets can both protect and damage across generations
The challenge of finding authentic connection in an increasingly disconnected world
The courage required to build a life rather than simply exist in one
The complexity of forgiveness and moving forward
Minor Criticisms Worth Noting

While the novel largely succeeds in its ambitions, a few elements feel slightly contrived. The coincidence of Max finding the crucial letter feels convenient, though O'Gorman works to make it plausible through his character's natural inclination to match books with readers. Some readers might find the resolution of the family drama somewhat tidy, though the author does acknowledge that healing is an ongoing process rather than a single moment of revelation.

The pacing occasionally slows during the middle sections where the author builds the community atmosphere, though these moments ultimately serve the story by establishing why Alice would want to stay in Sandycove.

Final Verdict: A Satisfying Return to Form

If We Could Turn Back Time represents O'Gorman at her most confident and emotionally astute. While it may not break new ground in terms of plot structure, it succeeds brilliantly in what it sets out to do: tell a heartfelt story about the courage required to build authentic relationships and face uncomfortable truths.

The novel's greatest strength lies in its understanding that coming home isn't about returning to who you were, but about becoming who you're meant to be. Alice's journey from rootless wanderer to committed community member mirrors many readers' own struggles to balance freedom with belonging, making this a particularly resonant read for anyone questioning their own path in life.

If We Could Turn Back Time by Sian O'Gorman is an absolute joy of a read that transported me straight to the heart of Sandycove. The picturesque Irish setting, beautifully described by the author, came alive with such vivid detail that I could almost smell the freshly baked soda bread and hear the chatter in the family store.

From the very first page, I felt immersed in the rhythms of small-town life and completely invested in the Littleton family—three generations of women, each with their own challenges, secrets, and dreams. Alice, Ciara, and Eva felt so real and relatable, with their hopes and struggles interwoven into a heartwarming story of love, resilience, and rediscovery.

Alice’s visit home after heartbreak and her journey of healing were beautifully handled, and I loved watching her reconnect with her family and rediscover her roots. Ciara’s storyline, as a single mother grappling with mid-life, was equally touching and empowering—her decision to restart the disco with her best friend Mary-Marg added a wonderful touch of nostalgia and fun to the story. And Eva, with her gentle wisdom and strong presence, was the glue that held the family together.

The secrets revealed as the story progressed were perfectly paced and added just the right amount of intrigue. Conal’s grandmother’s connection to Eva, and the long-buried history between Ciara and Conal’s father, Paddy, kept me hooked. The emotional depth of these revelations, paired with the light-hearted charm of Sandycove life, created a wonderful balance.

I picked this book up as a break from my usual crime and thriller reads, and it was exactly what I needed. The cover drew me in with its fun and vibrant vibe, and the story delivered on every promise. The descriptive narrative allowed me to envision every scene, and by the end, I felt like a part of this delightful community. I’m now eager to explore more books by Sian O’Gorman.

Finally, a special mention must go to the food descriptions—I’m desperate for a taste of the Irish soda bread! I found this to be a thoroughly enjoyable and heartwarming read that resonated deeply with me. If you’re looking for a story brimming with charm, heartfelt moments, and delightful surprises, If We Could Turn Back Time is perfect. Five sparkling stars from me!

If We Could Turn Back Time is the latest enjoyable family drama from Sian O’Gorman perfect for Faith Hogan and Cathy Kelly fans.

When her latest relationship hits a brick wall, Alice Littleton heads back home to Dublin’s Sandycove to spend the summer with her mother, Ciara and grandmother, Eva at their family deli and grocers. Reconnecting with her best friend Becca, who has a new boyfriend, Conal, Alice quickly begins to fall back into life at Sandycove. Could this be just what she needs to mend a broken heart?

Approaching mid-life, Ciara cannot help but feel that she is stuck in a rut and that life is passing her by. Having put the family business first and herself last one time too many, the time has come for Ciara to do something for herself for a change – like restarting the disco she used to run as a teenager with her best friend. Is this what Sandycove needs? Or will there be nothing but grief and crying at the discotheque?

Meanwhile, Conal’s grandmother insists on meeting Alice. Why is she so adamant about this? And what had happened between her and Eva all those years ago? Could this be the reason why Ciara and Conal’s dad Paddy haven’t spoken for over three decades?

All small towns have secrets, but will the truth finally come out this summer? Or should some secrets be kept dead and buried?

Sian O’Gorman writes engaging stories that beautifully explore the many complicated nuances of relationships and If We Could Turn Back Time is another fun, heartfelt and entertaining tale with gorgeous characters, a fictional setting you’d love to move to and plenty of small-town drama, mischief and romance to keep you turning those pages late into the night.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

If We Could Turn Back Time

⭐ Rating: 3.5/5 { 🩷🩷🩷💗 / 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷 }

Okay, so… let’s talk about If We Could Turn Back Time. I wanted to love this one. The premise had serious potential — a tangled web of long-lost relatives, quiet heartbreak, decades-old secrets, and the quiet unraveling of a friendship that once felt like everything. And yet… something didn’t quite click. 😕

Maybe it was the pacing — so slow that at times I felt like I was wading through syrup. Maybe it was the protagonist who, despite being fairly well-drawn, felt like she kept circling the same emotional drain. Or maybe it was just me not being in the right mindset. But if I’m being completely honest, I zoned out for large chunks of this book. 🧠➡️🌫️

Still — I can’t say it was bad. In fact, there were moments that genuinely resonated. The exploration of estranged family connections? ✨Heartfelt. The depiction of unrequited love and its ripple effects over time? 🥺 Relatable. And the idea that sometimes what we need is right under our nose the whole time? Beautifully done. 💡

It just didn’t pack the punch I was hoping for 👊🏻 No real narrative tension, no twists that shook me, no deep character arcs that really made me sit up and reflect. It felt safe. Soft. One-note, if you will😴

So here’s my advice:
📚 If you’ve got a TOWERING TBR and you’re hungry for a page-turner, maybe hold off ✋🏻🛑

📅 But if you’re in a slower mood — maybe on a rainy day with tea and toast (which, funny enough, shows up in the book 🍞☕) — this could be a quiet companion for an afternoon.

Would I recommend it? Sure… eventually. But it wouldn’t be the first thing I tell you to grab off the shelf.

More like: “Hey, when you’ve caught up on your spicy thrillers and angsty romances, and just want something mellow to fill the time — give it a go.” 🤷‍♀️

Alice is a teacher in Perth, Western Australia, living half a world away from her homeland. But when an unexpected break gives her time to return to Ireland and spend time with her mum, Ciara, and gran, Eva, she leaps at the chance.

Back in Ireland, Alice falls into a rhythm, working in the family shop, reconnecting with her family and friends, and is soon a fixture in the small town of Sandycove, forming a fearsome foursome with her bestie, Becca, Becca's boyfriend Conal, and the bookshop owner next door, Max.

Meanwhile her mum, Ciara, has a chance to breathe, now that Alice is taking on some of the shop. Being a single mum and running the family business has left her with no time to find herself, and so she and her bestie, Mary-Marg decide to reignite the old disco they ran in their younger days. And maybe some old flames, too.

Alice's arrival in town, though, is the catalyst for some big secrets becoming unearthed, and things prove to not be as they seem.

This was a multilayered book with lots of storylines crisscrossing over one another. We have Alice, settling down into small town life, and her potential romance; we have Ciara finding herself and her frustration at losing half her live to being a single mum and family business obligations; we have the mysterious Blake family and their secrets; we have the disco; we have the shop; we have a LOT of characters. There's a lot going on here, and I admit I did find myself struggling with this a little. It felt like there was backstory we should have known, but didn't.

The individual elements of the story were good, but I didn't feel it came together in a cohesive whole for me. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4

If We Could Turn Back Time by Sian O’Gorman

Blurb

After another relationship disaster Alice Littleton returns home to spend summer in Dublin’s Sandycove with her Mum, Ciara and beloved grandmother, Eva at their family deli and grocers.

As Alice settles back into her old life with best friend Becca and her new boyfriend Conal Blake, she begins to fall back in love with the everyday rhythms of their family shop and Irish life. Is this the tonic she needs to mend a broken heart?

Single and with mid-life looming her mother Ciara is consumed with running the family deli and feels life is passing her by until best friend Mary-Marg suggests they restart the disco they used to run as teenagers. Could this be what Sandycove’s millennials need or will there be murder on the dancefloor?

But it seems all small-towns have their fair share of secrets and ultimately the past will always catch up with you.

Why does Conal’s grandmother insist on meeting Alice and what happened between her and Eva?
And why hasn’t Ciara spoken to Conal’s father, Paddy, for thirty years?

Is it time for the truth to be told so they can change their future?

My Opinion

Alice returns home to Sandycove after living in Australia. It was really nice to be able to follow the three generations as the story progressed. If We Could Turn Back Time was an uplifting read and I was hooked from the very beginning. Sian O’Gorman has once again written a delightful book that I would highly recommend.

I’ve read quite a few of the books set in Sandycove, Dublin by the same author. They are not really required to be read in any particular order because people do not feature prominently in others’ stories enough for their own to make a difference.
Like many other books in this series which is not really a series, this story is about a pair of mother and daughter. The daughter has taken an extended vacation to be with her folks. As someone who has lived several hours away from my home country since the age of twenty, I can definitely agree that the emotions are spot on as Alice contemplates the difference between her life in Australia versus how it felt to be home.

Since Alice is adamant about helping out at the shop, Ciara ( her mother) has more free time than she knows what to do with. The past has been on her mind and we have a secret being hinted at from the beginning and slowly gets revealed. The author drops enough hints to know when it was coming and who might be involved, but I never could have guessed at the actual facts!

I like the way the friendships are sustained in the narrative. Time and distance only help make them more coloured and robust while mild quarrels keep things real.

I’ve read many books in the series, but each plot feels different even if it involves similar themes.

I would definitely recommend this book to fans of the genre.
I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.

Alice returns back to her roots after spending ten years in Australia. Whilst living in Australia definitely has it’s own appeal, being back home in Sandycove with her mum and grandmother has it’s own draws. I adore Sandycove, whilst a lot of the authors books are set there, they are all standalone novels.

The story alternates between Alice and her mother Ciara. I really enjoyed the chapters with Ciara and her best friend Mary-Marg. With Alice being back home and helping run the shop, it gives Ciara a new lease of life being able to go out more and do things. It was lovely to see her becoming more relaxed and having fun with her best friend as well as their plans to make it more fun for not just themselves but for the other residents in the area that are over forty five.

From the beginning there seems to be some sort of history between Alice’s family and Conal’s family. What though is anyone’s guess. I had so many thoughts going through my head as what it could be. When all is revealed it left me feeling a mix of emotions as it does both families.

If We Could Turn Back Time is ultimately an uplifting read. It’s full of warmth, family, friendships and romance. It’s hard not to be swept away by the author’s writing and be drawn into the character’s lives. The secrets just add more to it’s appeal. A gorgeous novel to lose yourself into that will leave you with a huge big grin on your face!

Alice has returned home from Australia for a month’s holiday. She misses Dublin and her childhood friends but loves the life she has on the other side of the planet- the sun and the beach. She helps out in the local shop owned and run by her mother Ciara, and finds herself a whizz at marketing, bringing new customers to the shop and encouraging old ones to spend more time there as well as money, which is a good thing as it had been getting a little stale. Her friend Mary-Marg suggests they bring back the disco they ran when at school. Will the over 45’s be up for a night with a disco ball? There are relationships that have soured over the years and secrets being held close to the owners chests.

This is a beautiful Irish story of friendships and adventures, perhaps of the small variety. Of how the little things can mean the most and that a good friend is a real gem. As with all of Sian’s books the characters come to life and are instantly likeable. The descriptions put the reader right into the heart of Sandycove and what is going on. Each chapter is from either Alice or Ciara’s perspective. It’s a read that gave me a warmth and a smile and I’d love to try one of Alice’s Irish breakfasts and wine tasting evenings. A read that made me smile and yes, it made me cry. The warmth of human kindness.

In this charming new multiple perspective women’s fiction story, readers follow Alice, Ciara, and Eva, three generations of women running the family deli and grocers in Dublin’s Sandycove. Alice, returning home after another disastrous relationship, resumes life in the small village with her friend Becca and new boyfriend Conal, and this return home might be exactly what she needs to heal. Ciara, single and facing middle age, feels like life is passing by until best friend Mary-Marg suggests they restart the disco of their teenage years. However, even small villages have secrets, and there are strange questions and requests in Sandycove that the three women must answer before they can move forward. Charming and cozy, the atmosphere and setting of this book is absolutely perfect and complements the characters’ arcs perfectly. The fun generational elements of this novel and the shifting storyline and perspectives really give each woman a chance to shine, and all their perspectives balance out equally in this new release. The emotional storyline of this charming book is particularly strong, engaging, and well-written, and readers will love the twists and turns ahead in this cozy Irish village for Alice, Ciara, and Eva and the rest of the community.

A family drama takes place in Ireland. Approaching mid-life, Ciara cannot help but feel that she is stuck in a rut and that life is passing her by. Having put the family business first and herself last one time too many, the time has come for Ciara to do something for herself for a change. My thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the opportunity. 3.5 rounded up

I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher, for which I thank them.

“If We Could Turn Back Time” is by Sian O’Gorman. This book takes place in a small town in Ireland and mainly focuses on Alice and Ciara - daughter and mother. Alice has returned from a ten year stint in Perth, Australia. Ciara has been working at the family grocery store, Murphy’s. Eva, Ciara’s mother, makes appearances. This book mainly deals with family but also a family secret. At times I found this book a bit long and slow, but I think part of that was due to the author’s writing style. There is some romance - but it’s all very clean and chaste. One of the problems of living in a small town is that so many people know each other’s business, but in this case, there are still some secrets kept close to the chest. Some of the twists I saw coming, but overall this is very much a feel good, things work out in the end sweet book about family and small towns. If that’s your jam, this book may be a great fit for you. It wasn’t quite my cup of tea, but I appreciated stepping into the town and meeting its residents. 3.5 stars, bumped up to 4.

This book was set in Ireland and was beautifully described. We follow the story of Alice, her mother Ciara, and her grandmother Eva. *I will admit in the beginning I kept getting Alice and Ciara mixed up because in my head Ciara should've been the younger name!* Alice has moved out of Ireland to Australia to be a teacher, because as most young people feel the need, she felt she needed to escape and find herself. She realized when she came home to visit that she loves Ireland and has thoughts of maybe staying and helping her mom run their little family owned deli/grocery shop.
In the story enters Max, who owns a bookstore next to Alice's family store. Friendship develops quickly between the two.
In the store Alice finds herself being drawn in to a life she at one time had loved to leave, now she's repainting, restocking, inventing new things like Irish Breakfast to make the store more successful.
In the last 3rd of the story we find out the family's secret that can either make or break them.
Beautiful story!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Sion O'Gorman and Boldwood books for the eversion arc copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Three generations, Eva, Ciara and Alice lived together in Sandycove until ten years ago when Alice left her grandmother and mother to go travelling. Alice is now, aged thirty, visiting Ireland from Australia, and is wondering where home is for her. She reconnects with her friend Becca, and helps out in Murphy’s, the family shop. This is an interesting and intriguing story about family, friendship, and buried secrets. At the 70% mark things start to unravel. The fallout from people’s actions of thirty years ago is felt by later generations. There’s mystery and confessions. Huge repercussions.
I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and Boldwood. I am writing a voluntary, honest review.

This book is so deserving of the 5star rating. Although the story follows the lives of three women from three generations of the same family, it involves their close friends and the fabulous wider community. Daughter Alice, who has been living in Australia for many years, returns home for a visit & to help out in the family buisness so her mum Ciara can have some much needed time away from the store. With the help of her gran, Alice sets about making little changes to the store. These changes start to help Ciara realise she wants more time away from the store whilst Alice decides she wants to spend more time there. As we are introduced to other characters along the way, secrets from the past start to unveil themselves and boy are there a couple of twists. An incredible captivating story.

If We Could Turn Back Time by Siân O’Gorman is a tender, emotionally layered novel that delves into the intricacies of family, love, and the long-buried secrets that shape who we become. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Sandycove, Dublin, it follows three generations of women—grandmother Eva, mother Ciara, and daughter Alice—as they face personal crossroads and uncover truths that change everything.

I finally caught up with this ARC from Netgalley and I am very glad I did!

I have not read any book from this author before, hence the procrastination in picking up the book, but I am going to be looking out for her books in future!

The story was heartwarming, with enough drama (not too much) and villains, and a little of the shock factor when the twists came. Of course, I love happy endings and romances, and successful women-run small businesses, and happy family reunions.

I think enough spoilers, but I enjoyed the book, finished it in 2 days, and will be hunting out more of Sian O'Gorman's books to add to my to-read pile!

I usually enjoyed O'Gormans books a lot, and whilst I did enjoy this one, it didn't come close to the previous books in the series. The start felt very repetitive and unnecessarily explanatory with small things being repeated that had just been explained in the previous paragraphs. Luckily, this only occurred in the beginning of the book and not throughout.

Perfectly enjoyable about family dynamics, friendships and past secrets resurfacing. Lovable characters and light and fun writing. It did however feel just a tad too predictable and unoriginal

Family

This is a story about families; dysfunctional and functional!!! It was good to be able to enjoy a regular life at home and work with those you care most about. These days it seems that we are so attached to our electronic devices that we’re unable to see other folks’ eyes. We don’t have to live in a small village (but it sure would be nice) to feel close to one another. Being close can mean many different things. We all need to find what helps us hold on to and love each other.
