I had high hopes, maybe too high, for this volume. It was a touch disappointing. It is furthering a baptistic theology which is good and necessary but it did this without engaging with non-baptist viewpoints. There are 2 biblical chapters, 1 theological and then 8 practical. This is in B&H Academic series but it really didnt feel at an academic level. The 3 biblical and theological chapters were too cursory and then the rest didnt feel as though they were offering too much new. The chapters on disabilities and catechesis were strong, but the rest I have mostly read elsewhere and didnt extend the argument.
The authors are primarily from Southwestern and New Orleans Baptist seminaries and there appears to be an unrecognised dependence on American scholars. No reference to UK Baptist scholars nevermind global scholarship. Its worth reading as an introductory volume but needs more depth and rigour.
