Five Deadly Vices
Dr. Billy Graham has often said that there are three main things that will destroy a sex, money and pride. I would like to add to that list alcohol and deception as well. As a pastor, I have counseled many people who have lost their jobs, family, friends and dignity because of these five deadly vices. It is tragic to see that Satan has such a stranglehold on people through these very destructive temptations.
We need to constantly remember that we are not fighting temptation for victory but from victory God has given every believer the ability and the power (through Jesus Christ) to overcome temptation and walk in the Spirit.
However, we are not to play with temptation.
"You cannot play with the animal in you without becoming wholly animal, play with falsehood without forfeiting your right to truth, play with cruelty without losing your sensitivity of mind. He who wants to keep his garden tidy doesn’t reserve a spot for weeds." (Author Unknown)
The following information will help you to understand the specific temptations we face, how we are tempted in these areas, the consequences to succumbing to the temptations, and the practical steps to choose to follow God instead of giving in to the temptation.
