Rüstem Aslan was born İstanbul 1965. He graduated from the Istanbul University, Dept of Prehistory, and obtained his Ph.D. in 2006 in Prehistoric Archaeology , in University of Tübingen (Germany), studying with M. Osman Korfmann. He then launched into his academic career at the at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (Turkey) and currently continues to teach at the as professor. Since 1988 he has been member of excavations team at Troy, and between 2007 and 2011 he directed a survey project on the Troad that focused on recording and mapping the Bronze Age Settlements System around Troy. In 2013 he became director of the Troy Excavation in northwest Turkey. His recent seminars have dealt with archeological topography of the Troad and the Archaeology of Troy. He has published over 100 scientific papers and 12 books.

La traducción no es muy buena, pero la historia de Troya como ciudad mítica y como sitio arqueológico es fascinante. Es interesante notar que desde la antigüedad, y hasta el día de hoy, la guerra de Troya se ha interpretado como un conflicto entre Oriente y Occidente, y que muchos personajes se han identificado con los troyanos (Alejandro Magno, varios emperadores romanos, algún Sultán). Interesante también descubrir que Troya ha sido destruida muchas veces, por guerras, incendios, temblores, saqueos y malos trabajos arqueológicos.
