Sweet Deception is the debut romance novel by Monroe Beckett. I started this not really knowing what to expect and wow was I surprised in the very best of ways. This is a bossy, alpha hero and a sweet heroine who is also very strong minded and independent.

Kylie Davis is twenty three years old and is in her senior year of college. She took a gap year which explains why she’s a little older than most of her classmates. Kylie was raised by two loving parents and had what most think is an ideal upbringing. But her parents have fallen on tough times. After a battle with cancer, there are medical bills and a behind mortgage which the bank is threatening them about. After her parents did so much for her, Kylie wants to be there for them, to help ease their worries. She needs money and fast. With nowhere else to turn, she learns of the Sweet Connections Agency. It is an agency that pairs up wealthy members with sugar babies. There are contracts involved and everyone is thoroughly vetted. It’s not something she normally would ever do but she can come up with no other way to earn money quickly to help her parents.

Luca Morelli is thirty two years old and is a very wealthy business owner of several properties. Luca is related to the head of Chicago’s Italian crime family and even though they maintain a polite relationship, he stays as far away from their business as possible. He runs his own businesses with his two best friends at this side, Gio and Rafael. Luca has never been in a relationship. Most women just try to gain his attention because of his money. With his busy schedule, he has no time for any type of relationship even if he did want one, which he doesn’t. Which is why his reaction to seeing Kylie for the first time shocked him!

One of my favorite things ever is when two strangers see each other for the first time from a distance, the eyes meeting, the sparks flying, the instant attraction. And that is exactly what happened. Luca knew he had to have her so what better way than to tie her to him with a contract as his sugar baby. Even though he owned the company! He’s sure that he just needs to get her out of his system. But he is most definitely wrong.

This really was so good. There are plenty of twists and turns as the story progresses and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Kylie might have been sweet and even a little bit innocent, but she was also tough and strong. She was smart and independent. She was the perfect match for Luca. I also loved the secondary characters, specifically Gio, Rafael and Luca’s mob boss cousin, Rome. I would also love to see more of Kylie’s roommate, Talia. I want her to find love too! Oh, and lets not forget the quiet, reserved bodyguard, Joseph. I enjoyed this book so much and absolutely can’t wait to see what comes next!

Started the new year off with a hit!
It’s been a long time since I’ve stayed up late to read. Honestly, It hasn’t happened since my baby was born. SLEEP IS THAT PRECIOUS!

But for Sweet Deception it was worth it.

“Desperate times” make for addicting reads. Kylie and Luca were refreshing. Their story was unique which is why I was hooked from the very beginning.

Sweet deception is a captivating contemporary romance that will bring romance readers in a rut back into the fold. I thought it was only going to be light and simple escapism, but it was so much more. It was immersive and captivating from one page to the next. I couldn’t get enough! Every woman wants a Luca in her life with a HEA. So sit back and enjoy how a difficult situation can turn into a steamy romance!

I absolutely LOVED this smexy, not-quite-mafia, sugar baby story!

Kylie and Luca’s story was nothing I expected it to be. I loved the way this author developed new and unique ways of choreographing their actions and reactions to each other. They had all the steam and sensuality one would expect in this trope without it consuming the story.

I was completely enthralled with the characters both the hero and heroine, as well as the cast of secondary characters that added heart and humor to the storyline. I felt as though I had crawled inside the pages and at a moment's notice would become a walking talking part of their lives. How is this a debut novel when it’s given me everything I crave plus nuggets I never knew I would love?

I am now craving all the stories from not just this “sugar baby” world, but from this author!

Luca is the kind of character that feels like a dream come to life. He’s sweet and attentive but carries that brooding, dark allure that keeps you hooked. This book centers on the growth of the relationship between the MMC (Luca) and FMC (Kylie). While there are challenges along the way, there’s no single, earth-shattering secret driving the plot. Instead, it’s the accumulation of life’s complexities—both within and around them—that shapes their journey.

A standout aspect for me was meeting Gio and Rafael, Luca’s more-than-friends, practically brothers. Honestly, I adored them just as much as Luca! Gio’s goofy charm and Rafael’s quiet, shadowy demeanor. 🥵 Despite their rough childhoods, the bond between these three is unshakable, and their willingness to embrace and protect Kylie—just because she makes Luca happy—is the ultimate definition of love and loyalty.

This was such an enjoyable read, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience it!

I received an advance reader copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book by Monroe Beckett and it doesn’t disappoint! This book has it all pulling at your heartstrings as you read about Kylie and the choice she makes to help her family. As someone who has lost both of her parents, this resonated with me.

Luca was just my type of hero. Strong and possessive with a sweet side only the h sees. When he sees Kylie in the street, he knows he has to find a way to meet her.

As they navigate their way through this new relationship, trouble from outside sources adds just the right amount of angst and mystery.

The secondary characters added to the story and made me excited for them to find their own HEAs.

Kylie is in a desperate time, and that calls for desperate measures. Luckily, her roommate has the perfect solution! It all seems so easy, what could possibly go wrong?

I truly loved the development of Kylie throughout this book. It was also extremely astonishing the amount of plot twists i experienced! i was thoroughly expected the usual steamy billionaire romance kinda vibe and was so pleasantly surprised at how much more this had to offer. The spice was SPICING and i was so thoroughly hooked at the same time. It really was an incredible read.

Monroe Beckett’s Sweet Deception is an enchanting romance that surprises readers with its depth and emotional intensity. With a compelling storyline and richly developed characters, this book is impossible to put down once you start. From the first page to the last, it delivers everything a romance reader could hope for: a heartfelt connection, swoon-worthy moments, and a dash of realism that makes the story truly resonate.

One of the standout elements is the dynamic between the protagonists. The “guy falls first” trope is executed beautifully here, creating a love story that feels both tender and passionate. The male lead’s unwavering focus and adoration for the heroine add a layer of charm and intensity to the romance, making it impossible not to root for their relationship. His acceptance of her circumstances without judgment showcases a refreshing depth of character, while her hesitancy, shaped by her upbringing and her father’s role as a cop, adds a realistic and relatable conflict.

Beckett’s writing brings the characters’ emotions to life, drawing readers into their world and making their journey feel authentic. The attention to detail in the character’s motivations and backgrounds enriches the story, making it more than just a romance—it’s a tale of trust, growth, and overcoming fears.

Sweet Deception is a captivating and well-crafted love story that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. Monroe Beckett delivers a romance that is as heartwarming as it is relatable, making this a must-read for fans of emotionally charged and deeply satisfying love stories.

This book was amazing. I was instantly sucked in and could not put the book down. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. From the moment the main characters saw each other I felt the sparks. Luca and Kylie’s connection was fire and their relationship progression made perfect sense with the plot. I was captivated with how this story wove together so seamlessly- sugar baby, a little side mafia action, protective and obsessive MMC, good banter, captivating side characters. Everything just made sense, even the little story plot lines. I wish I could read this book again for the first time!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This book was so interesting. There were twists and turns. I love any book involving a mafia so this was a great read. The book was relatively short but you were still able to get enough action and background information. The dual POV was amazing.

I’m sorry, what? I loved this sooo much. And you mean to tell me this was a debut novel? I’m so grateful to have received this ARC. This was a relationship of convenience, touch her and die, obsession at first site, found family, story. There’s fun banter, great humor not only between main characters but the smaller roles as well. Kylie applies to be a sugar baby to make money to help pay for her parents medical bills/ house payments. She’s in her senior year of college and catches the eye of the ultimate sugar daddy. I love Luca haaaard. So excited for everyone to read this.

Sweet Connections #1

What a delightful book this proved to be ~ I couldn’t put it down!

What I liked:
* Kylie Davis: college student, loving daughter, kind, generous, outgoing, makes friends easily, focused, has goal and will achieve them, perfect for and with Luca
* Luca Morelli: billionaire, real estate mogul, multiple businesses and properties, good friend, had a difficult childhood, drawn to Kylie, loved watching him grow emotionally
* The way Luca and Kylie made eye contact the first time and the impact it had on both of them
* Kylie’s parents: loving, kind, supportive, dad a retired policeman in cancer remission, mom a high school teacher
* Talia: Kylie’s quiet roommate, studying medicine, referred Kylie to Sugar Babies
* Rafael and Gio: Luca’s longtime friends who work for and with him, strong bonds and found family
* Joseph: bodyguard, driver, quiet, intriguing
* Rome Morelli: Head of the Morelli Mafia in Chicago with a large family and network that may show up in the future
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The character development and feeling I would want to be friends with Kylie, Luca, and the rest
* That I was engaged and became immersed in the story ~ want to see how they progress as the series unfolds
* Thinking about which of the characters will star in book two
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Luca’s father – oh my!
* Thinking about what Luca experienced growing up
* The rather twisted evil characters that popped up in a few places
* Having to wait for the next book

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for the ARC – This is my honest review.

ARC Review of Sweet Deception by Monroe Beckett
* * * * *
A steamy naughty romance where one pull of power and one contract breaks all the rules for the best reasons.

Kylie is in need of cash.
Quite a bit of it.
When her family is in a bit of a jam due to personal problems and healthy issues, she's now landed herself in an application interview to be a Sugar Baby and get herself a hot daddy to give her the dough for her body.
God figure she captures the eye of the alluring and handsome Luca...the owner of the business.
The auburn beauty walking out of his offices had to be his.
Discovering she was applying to be a Sugar Baby, he's pulled some strings and made sure she lands right in his lap.
She's sweet and innocent and everything he's been craving.
His not going to let her go.
She's his.

Absolutely great read and very eager to get more!
Luca is dominant and powerful and generous towards Kylie, and she's loving it. He's making sure she is truly taken care of and has no worry in the world.
Swoon!

I had an amazing opportunity to read Sweet deceptions as an ARC. I absolutely loved the way Monroe Beckett gave some background onto each character and how they tied into the story. As someone whose father passed of cancer in 2007, this story tugged at my heart. I have the upmost respect for Kylie & what she did to help her mom & dad out. & Luca, omg. That man is a walking talking GREEN FLAG! Nothing that man did made me mad. Even his respect toward those who have wronged him was 🤌🏼🤌🏼 I also thought I had it all figured out but that plot twist had my jaw hanging open & catching flies!
Sweet deceptions had the story line, had the suspense & brought the spice too 🌶️ 🌶️

I won this book in a giveaway and was super stoked to read it. I thought this was a great book with great details and a very good story line. From the beginning I was hooked and couldn't put it down. The characters are great but I think I would have liked a little bit more details on a couple more characters. Curious if maybe there is a second book in the works. Thanks for the book and a great read!

I’m here for a constructive criticism since I’m seeing this is the author’s first book (at least under this pen name).

The premise was good, the delivery was what bugged me.

The book had more chapters with the MCs apart and interacting with side characters than of them together. When they were together, one was almost always sleeping. Yeah, they had sex, but the sex was not even that great to make me believe they feel in love with each other.

Gio, MMC’s friend, had more on page time with the FMC than the H. Make it make sense, please.
Also, I had to read so much detail of mundane things (making coffee, cooking a steak, eating breakfast, getting dressed) I was bored. Where’s the romance? Where’s the wooing, the dates, the MC’s banter with each other, the couple getting to know one another and falling in love?

I had to read a whole chapter about the FMC’s dad cooking and eating dinner while she had just been kidnapped. If in this chapter he looked at the phone (where there were the messages from the kidnapper), I would’ve understood the point. But no, they waited a full other chapter (in someone else’s POV) to discover he had the answer to where she was all along.

The kidnapping thing was weird as well. The book spent half the time talking about problems with the mafia but the bad guy was some random ex-convict her dad (an ex-cop) took away years ago? Why would I care about the mafia thing if this wasn’t going to be the 3rd act drama? The problem just *PUFF* got resolved while they were at the hospital.

Ultimately, I think the author had some good ideas, but they needed some trimming, maybe use some of the plots for other books.

I was looking for a book where they would be instantly attracted and slowly falling in love (that’s what I got from the blurb). However, what I got was insta-lust and out of nowhere love between people who barely talked to each other.

The OW inserted to stir some drama wasn’t even able to shake things up for more than a couple pages, the mafia spin took too long and wasn’t the main problem at the end, the money problems were magically resolved early on and the FMC didn’t even thought about it after. So why so many plots? Why not narrow it down and make sure all the loops are closed?

Again, there’s no hate here, I see a lot of potential but we need someone cutting things off so the book is more palatable. This story didn’t need to be as long as it was and begged for more interaction between the couple.

Book started off really strong- it made me very nostalgic about books I loved reading 10years ago. We have a girl, whose flatmate has a sugar daddy and she offers the same to h, as she knows h is desperate to help her parents with house payments ( father had a cancer, also medical bills). Very realistic kind of an issue to try to get fast money.

Their first meeting was by accident and it was perfect. It was exactly how I want h&H meet. That first meeting was 10/10! He saw her, he wanted her and he made it happen. That’s the man I am looking for in books.

Where did it go wrong then?

I feel author missed the whole great opportunity to develop their relationship throughout the book. But it went shit when his mafia cousin storyline came in. H was absent majority of the time and their relationship didn’t evolve anywhere, besides hanky panky at night.

There was no angst what this imbalanced relationship could bring … you know all the good stuff you want to read when one is a sugar baby. Cmon!!!

But we get a whole main plot of mafia cousin trying to find the rat. If that would have been a book about the cousin- then yeah obviously as he is a don, it’s inevitable to have a mafia issues thrown there, but H is a businessman, could have been without it.

Then out of freaking nowhere h is kidnapped from a completely unrelated person- namely her father was a cop ( now retired) and there was a guy with a revenge against her father. I mean this went from great, to okay I’ll try to fuck no- too much.

I am interested reading about H cousin and his two friends, but I want more relationship development and good smut. Smut was just so slam, bam, sandwich ham kind of doing.

But, I truly liked the way how author writes and her characters are awesome and likeable. I just hope to have more balance between love and plot.

🔸 h is 23
🔸 H is 32
🔸 no virgins, h past is not discussed
🔸slight ow/om drama ( ow/om tries to make a move but they are turned down)
🔸 no cheating
🔸 no break up
🔸 condoms used
🔸 triggers : h is kidnapped ,drugged and almost raped
🔸 spice is okay, I feel it was written kind of passing by though
🔸 HEA

Quick Summary: A first sight and fire romance

My Review: Sweet Deception by Monroe Beckett is a 2025 contemporary romance.

About the Book: "Desperate times call for desperate measures, and Kylie Davis is out of options. With her parents on the brink of losing their home from her father’s long battle with cancer, Kylie takes a leap she never imagined; applying to be a sugar baby. The plan is simple—make fast cash, save her parents’ home, and walk away.

But nothing is ever simple where Luca Morelli is involved."

In My Own Words: A good girl facing a bad situation crosses paths with a sexy bad boy with a good heart. From the moment they see each other, sparks fly. Unfortunately, dark threats interrupt their relationship.

My Final Say: This hidden gem had me on lock. Luca, Kylie, Gio, Rafael, and even Joseph and Talia were great characters. The light versus dark theme played throughout the story and completely drew me in. While the hot and bothered heat between the leads was present, this story offered so much more. It was an opposites attract, found family, mafia-esque romance with all the feels.

*** Luca gives off vibes like Alex Volkov from Twisted Love.***

Other: This would make a great audiobook. Sign me up! If this isn't a series, it needs to be.

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

Darkness Level: 🖤
Tropes: M/F, Guy falls first, Age gap 32/23
Format: E-book – 284 pages

The story is about Kylie who signs up to be a sugar baby to help her parents who are on the brink of losing their family home. Luca, the owner of the company sees her walking out of the building and is immediately drawn to her and decides that he wants her for himself.

From there begins our journey of both of them battling with their feelings in different ways. Luca who has never had a relationship before tries (unsuccessfully) to lie to himself about his growing feelings for Kylie. And Kylie struggles to keep her heart safe from a man who she thinks is only with her for sex.

It’s a fresh take on the “fake relationship” trope and was really fun to read. The swoon-worthy moments, the banter between the couple and specially the banter between the Fmc and one of the side characters was absolutely brilliant. I TOTALLY want him as my big brother!!!

Honestly it was a very sweet and satisfying read filled with very spicy spice 😉 and just the right amount of twists and drama.

The book will be out on the 17th January 2025, so if you want to start the year with a sweet yet captivating read, pick this one up! You will not regret it 🥰.

DNF at 40%. I was looking for a “morally grey heroine” and stumbled across this new book (and debut title for author, I believe). While I think it was written well for a mafia romance, the insta-love feel wasn’t what I was personally looking for.

😎 Luca - 32 yrs old, owns a dating and sugar baby service, mafia-like power and money (cousin to the mafia family in town).

😊 Kylie - 23 yrs old, senior in college, applies to become a sugar baby, to get quick cash to help prevent her parents from losing their house after accumulating a mountain of debt following her fathers successful battle with throat cancer.

Luca takes one look at Kylie leaving the Sweet Connections offices after her interview and blocks her application to keep her for himself. Insta-possessive. Figures he would see her for a month or two, and then he would be ready to move on. He figured wrong…

Kylie was extremely naive and childlike, she got easily embarrassed discussing adult topics and needed to whisper certain words and then would blush. I felt embarrassed for her every time she opened her mouth.

Writing is relatable. I assumed it would be strangers/clients meeting for dates, hooking up and slowly fall in love. Instead their relationship started with an instalove feel, felt as if they were instantly bf/gf, chummy friendly texts, mafia mystery plot jumps in before anything sexual happens. (as of 40% there had been no steamy scenes). I was really looking for more of a slow burn with stranger-to-lovers feel. Not a bad story though.

“Kylie Davis’ life has been filled with turmoil recently, so she seeks out an opportunity to help her family out financially. The plan is simple—make fast cash, save her parents’ home, and walk away.

But nothing is simple with Sweet Connections and Luca Morelli. A chance encounter between the Kylie and Luca, leads to the beginning of a business arrangement that quickly spirals into so much more than either bargained for.

Sweet Deception is a steamy, high-stakes romance about love, sacrifice, and the fine line between trust and betrayal”

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3 / 5)
The spice is spicy 🌶️ , but the story line fell a little short for me. It’s a good smut read, but if you’re looking for more “depth” this one may not be it. I felt like it was missing something to make it “memorable” and for me to recommend to everyone. With that being said - I’m interested in future books with Gio and Rafael!

Sweet Deception of the Sweet Connection Series by Monroe Beckett is a must read. This contemporary, sugar baby romance is an engaging, well-written story that drew me in from page one. The story is full of heart, emotion, love, suspense, and drama. I love how both the main and supporting characters are so well developed and grow throughout the story. Kylie and Luca meet through extraordinary circumstances but grow closer as they continue exploring their relationship with one another. I also love how Kylie is an independent, spunky, and devoted daughter. This author does an excellent job of bringing heart to the story with Kylie’s love & support for her parents as well as the connections that Kylie makes along her journey. This captivating romance draws the reader into the story withs its well-paced, entertaining, steamy, suspenseful plot, wonderful characters, and their traveled path. I highly recommend this debut novel by Monroe Beckett and I look forward to reading more of this author’s works.

Let me start by saying congratulations to Miss Monroe on her first book!!! This is the first book that I have ever read with the sugar baby troupe and I loved it. I feel like it really could’ve been hit or miss, but the way she portrayed these characters was amazing. I also like that we still got tidbits of the mafia, but honestly I’m just amazed at this book. I kept telling myself just one more chapter, and one turned into more. Kylie is like your typical sunshine girly who’s shy at first, but is determined to do whatever it takes for her parents. Then you have Luca who is very much obsessed with Kylie. I wish we could’ve gotten more of Lucas past before the ending of the book. I loved the banter between Luca, Gio and Rafael. Also the brotherly bond that Kylie created with Gio and Rafael is just so adorable. I’m really hoping for Gio and Rafael stories next. My only thing is I wish we would’ve gotten more insight on how Gio, Rafael, and Luca all came together.

Sweet Deception is a steamy contemporary romance that follows MFC Kylie as she on the advice of a friend Talia finds herself signing up at Sweet Connections, Inc. to become someone’s sugar baby.

Desperate to come up with money to help her parents from losing their home this was her only way to make some fast cash.

She didn’t bet on MMC Luca Morelli the owner locking eyes with her when she left his building, and deciding she wasn’t going to be anyone’s sugar baby but his.

Enjoyed this nicely written story of a business arrangement that soon turns into a high stakes romance of love, family, betrayal, passion, obsession, secrets, and intrigue, which takes the reader along on an emotional roller coaster of a ride that can only end one way… HEA

So good! This is a new author for me, but I am so glad I found this novel. This novel did not disappoint. I loved it! I was so excited to jump into this novel. From the first chapter this novel pulled me in and held on tight. Once I started reading I didn't want to put this novel down. I needed to know what was going to happen next. I loved Kylie and Luca’s story. I loved how Kylie was willing to do whatever it took to help her family which led her to Luca. I adored Luca and how he was determined to make Kylie his. I loved their chemistry. I loved watching them fall in love. This novel kept me on the edge of my seat, I didn't want this novel to end. I can hardly wait to see what this author has coming next. So good!

I adore a Sugar Baby romance and this did not disappoint. Sweet Deception delivers a sweet yet strong heroine and a possessive broody millionaire. Luca believes he’s in charge from the start—setting the rules of the game and understanding the players. Hint: he’s not in charge. Kylie innocently captures his heart and won’t let go. I was prepared for a spicy romance, but I was unprepared for the intrigue of the mob subplot and it was fantastic!

It’s deliciously entertaining to have a front-row seat when the strict rules get stripped away and a business deal become all heart.

Poor Luca has to spell it out. “I don’t want a contract between us anymore. I want a relationship. A real one. With you.”

This is an incredible debut novel and I can’t wait to read more!

I liked how we dove right into her “escort” journey from the get go vs dragging the 1st couple pages/chapters with her battling the idea of it before finally pulling the trigger. I’ve read other escort books yet this didn’t feel like a repeat.
Kylie is a shy, slightly sheltered, family oriented young woman that slowly becomes more confident.
Luca is the right kind of “she’s mine” without bleeding arrogance, he’s a CEO without the macho Alpha attitude.

It’s fast-paced but I didn’t feel like things were left unexplained. All in all a decent read.

Tropes: escort, sugar baby/daddy
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

*I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.* What a great way to start 2025 with such a good read! I usually stick to bad boy, mafia types but it was refreshing to have a MMC that fell hard and fast for his lady, would do anything for her, and remained on the sweeter side. Luca is sweet with her while also not having issues with defending his Angel by any means necessary. He is super protective and will go the great lengths to keep her safe. Kylie is going through a lot but manages to find Luca and they're perfect together. The story line was flushed out very well and I enjoyed all the characters. It was a really fun read!
