Erin Hunter’s #1 bestselling Warriors series continues with the second book in the Changing Skies arc, as the Clans continue to navigate an ominous prophecy that foreshadows the end of the cats' connection to StarClan.

Still healing from an accident that almost killed her, Tawnypelt is eager to share the message she received from StarClan about a “great peril” looming over the clans. But her vision is dismissed by her son and leader, Tigerstar, leaving Tawnypelt with no choice but to take action on her own.

Racked with guilt that he caused his father’s death, Starlingpaw is determined to atone for his mistake. His chance comes when Tawnypelt warns him of a “two-faced cat” intent on destroying the clans. Believing himself uniquely suited to find this cat and stop them, Starlingpaw seizes on the opportunity to prove that he is an asset, and not a liability, to SkyClan.

Moonpaw is settling into her role as a Thunderclan apprentice, even as she continues to grapple with the voice in her head. But the more she tries to ignore the voice, the louder—and angrier—it grows.

Meanwhile, Twolegs have set their sights on the Moonpool, preventing the Clans from reaching StarClan. Will the cats find a way to reach their ancestors before all is lost?

Hidden Moon was definitely a mixed bag at the beginning, but later on it gets better.

Moonpaw becomes medicine cat apprentice again then a warrior apprentice then becomes a medicine cat apprentice then a warrior apprentice then becomes a medicine cat apprentice then a warrior apprentice then becomes a medicine cat apprentice then a warrior apprentice then becomes a medicine cat apprentice then a warrior apprentice then becomes a medicine cat apprentice then a warrior apprentice. She only stops because Glitterclaw eats Sunbeam.

This causes Moonpaw to become insane and she becomes a murderer and (HUGE SPOILERS) Turns out it's Moonpaw's sister, Deadkit, who is possessing her! Little do we know that CLEAVEPOOL is possessing Deadkit who is possessing Moonpaw! Glitterclaw, who btw is the most annoying cat in this whole book (he ate Brambleclaw) then kicks Moonpaw to the twolegplace where she eats Brazil Nut's car tires. This was very entertaining and funny and it ended off on a cliffhanger!

Unfortunately, Leafstar is forgotten by the Hunters, so the new main character is Cloverkit, who is green. She is also friends with Cloudsnap. Cloverkit gets bullied the entire book.

Tawnypelt drowns so the main character switches to Redtail, because he is now plot relevant again after the first book, he comes back to life to replace Tawnypelt. Redtail tries to be plot relevant but fails. Moonpool problem? Bah!

Squirrelstar and Jayfeather become mates and then Squirrelstar gives birth to Cloverkit. 1 Star off for this. HEAVY on the Glitterclaw is Rainbowglitterstar theory!

Oh, and also Starlingpaw only gets ONE CHAPTER in the middle of the book. I unfortunately rate this one star because it put me into paralytic shock.

This may be one of the better modern Warrior Cats main series books?

I liked this one! Despite the fact that it took me forever to read because I kept falling asleep early... let's debrief, in as spoiler-free of a way as I can. Overview first, and then my thoughts on the protagonists individual plots.

I really appreciated how this book kept themed of recent books AND also from original series. It was interesting to be reading this at the same time as my reread. The characters felt like them, as much as characters who have been around for 20 years and written by about a billion different people can. This one wasn't dubiously written. I didn't buy a print copy, so I can't speak for that one, but the eBook was actually mostly error free. That's a pretty big win these days.
I'm... surprisingly in favor of the idea of new surroundings (hottest take, I know). I like the idea of more change, whether territory or moving away from using the Moonpool. Especially change based on elements that have been introduced previously, mostly how the ghosts are going to play into it along WITH the wildcats. There wasn't any additions to the StormClan's Folly history situation but whatever, I guess, can't have everything.

Starting with Starlingpaw, my favorite in this book. I really, really enjoyed his progression. While I wish he had kept the tinfoil hat on longer (because it was hilarious), his progression of going on a journey and growing as a person was nice. In my opinion, he carried here. Also, a not-boring traveling book is such a breath of fresh air. I know I'm going to suffer in TNP coming up in my reread.

Tawnypelt, my OG bestie. I like that they chose her as a main focus... I like her message that you don't have to be THE leader to be a leader, especially in the world right now. I think I need another book to be sold on some of her plotlines though, if they didn't just get... dropped out of the sky and smushed. Maybe she should start looking at Brackenfur a little closer. Let me be honest, I REALLY hope they get rid of Tigerstar via the new code rules. Maybe because I never liked him, maybe because he made Dovewing worse as a character (and still is) but my god, how many arcs can we have of this guy being stubborn, in the way and annoying. His literally only plot goal is to make the overarching plot last longer. However, in older arcs, the problem in the beginning of the arc often only lasted until book 3 and then segued into a new, adjacent problem. I think we need to bring that back and shove this dude-bro into the closet for a bit. Her friendship with Squirrelstar is one of my favorites. I hope to see more of it.

Lastly, and most surprisingly, dark horse Moonpaw. I wouldn't say I have a least favorite protagonist, as I have in past arcs, but she would be the one I wasn't as excited to read about... for the first half of the book. Her entanglement with Brambleclaw and weird Chucky-esque ghost situation really grew on me. The only thing is that I hope to God they don't pull a fast one on me book 5 and make Moonpaw and Starlingpaw mates. We've done that before. Friends exists as an option. just because Starlingpaw can see some things doesn't mean he has to love her.

I still giggle that the allegiances took up literally 15% of the book. We gotta thin the herd here, really (again!). I'm definitely more excited about this arc than I was after just reading book one. This is a very strong book two for recent years. Maybe my standards are low, but I'm pleasantly surprised. The next book comes out on my birthday next year too!

This one is MUCH better than the previous entry. It would be a 5-star if the plot went just a little bit further. As-is, it still feels like not enough is happening. I suppose I'll go over each character like I did in my previous review.

Tawnypelt was my least favorite POV in the previous book. I don't mind her in this one. She actually has a few really nice stand-out moments. I like that she's gathering what's essentially an old lady club (yes, Crowfeather counts as an old lady). Her conversation with Squirrelstar, where Squirrelstar tries to guess which cat Tawnypelt has a crush on, was super cute and made me laugh out loud. I'm glad that Tawnypelt actually did things this time instead of just circling back on the same stuff over and over and over. I also really enjoyed her moments with her brother and the real fear she has of losing him now that they've both grown so old.

Starlingpaw was a character I was wary of. Leafstar's POV was my favorite in the previous book, so replacing her with this new character had me side-eyeing. Luckily, Starlingpaw's chapters ended up being my favorites. I love how dumb he is! Poor boy can't get his share of the braincell to save his life. XD He wants to be the special(tm) so bad, and I love him for it. Plus the fact that everyone's oblivious of what's going on in his little head makes his chapters super enjoyable for the comedy aspect.

Moonpaw's chapters are fine. Mostly I liked her interactions with Jayfeather. He's so sweet to her, he definitely knows that there's something going on with her and . I liked getting to see more of a relationship between her and the other apprentices--Shinepaw and Goldenpaw--especially since the next book teases that there might be a romance building for her with Goldenpaw. (Side note: If I had a nickel for every time an apprentice named Goldenpaw was injured/scarred during battle training, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.) I teared up a bit when Bayshine and Thriftear gave her sister's backstory, and I like the building threat of the sister's ghost throughout as she progressively becomes stronger and capable of manipulating the living world. I really don't know where that plotline is going... unless it's going to be another Ashfur soul-collecting thing. Ashfur does get brought up A LOT in this one...

The writing still has typos and grammar errors, but they are fewer than the previous entries at least. The story finally started to pick up some steam, which is always nice to have in a 300-page book. Plot for the win, I guess. And this one ends on a lot more clear-cut questions than the last one did, which makes me excited for the next installment and to see where everything ends up.

Maybe this is just me being a fan all over again, but for the first time since The Broken Code or maybe even Dawn of the Clans, I was so excited to read this book and I am so excited for the next one to come out.

While Moonpaw herself isn't that interesting of a character, her chapters are fantastic because of how downright chilling and creepy they are. The way Morningkit isn't evil in a malicious way but in this creepily innocent childlike way just makes her even more scary. I also absolutely love her interactions with Brambleclaw and Jayfeather, two of my absolute favorites.

Contrary to most peoples' opinions (according to Reddit anyway), I really liked Starlingpaw. He's a bit (more than a bit) dumb, for sure, but he's a fun-loving apprentice that reminds me a lot of Rootspring in the early TBC books. His arc in this book was really good, with the red herring Fidgetflake plotline and visiting the mountains which is always a treat. His final chapter was genuinely shocking for me and I still can't believe Crowfeather, someone who has been around for 38 (thirty-eight!!) books is dead.

However, my favorite chapters had to be that of Tawnypelt's, not because of her arc, but because of the themes surrounding it. The prophecy Tawnypelt receives from Bluestar speaks of a time of great change for the Clans but it also centers on what Bluestar terms "the end of an era". As these books move further and further away from the characters that it started with, characterized by both Crowfeather's death and Brambleclaw's sickness in this book, my connection to it wavers. Many conversations in this book center around the possibility of the Clans having to leave the lake territories behind just like the forest before. However, now instead of Speckletail and Frostfur staying behind, it'll be Cloudtail and Brightheart, Thornclaw and Brackenfur, Tawnypelt and Brambleclaw. These are the characters that have tied me to this series emotionally and as they stay behind with the memories of before, I find myself coming nearer and nearer to making the same decision.

The warriors universe keeps getting better. The character development and genuine discomfort this book invoked in me was incredible. As Warriors first readers mature, the books seem to be doing the same.

I’m not sure which “Erin” is writing this arc, but I am really enjoying the seamless way that they are blending the stories of longtime beloved characters with the new POV characters. It’s making this arc the perfect blend of a walk down memory lane while heading toward the future!

Um yeah so when The Elder's Quest came out I said "this is the first time I kinda want to stop reading. This was not a great start to the arc." BOY WAS I WRONG!! I'M GLAD I KEPT READING!! This book was so much better then The Elder's Quest and DARE I SAY one of the best modern Warriors books (I count all "modern books" as arcs that came out after Dawn of the Clans, so A Vision of Shadows through Changing Skies). There was honestly not too much I really DISLIKED about this book, so I'll get those out of the way first.

The main one was Tigerheartstar. What a horrible cat. He's so stubborn and full of pride that he'll dismiss his own MOTHER'S warnings and ban her from talking about her dreams. So yeah, badass Tawnypelt completely ignored him and told the Clan leaders anyway then LEFT Shadowclan. I love miss boss lady. The only other thing I disliked was that they cut out Leafstar's POV. I actually loved Starlingpaw in this book, but Leafstar still has so much to offer. Even though I agree she should step down as leader, there's still so much for her to do (like figure out her place in her Clan and the prophecy). I'm just glad her story wasn't completely shafted and I loved seeing her talk to Tawnypelt. It seems like she'll play a bigger roll when all the elders come together (hell yeah).

Which leads me into everything I ADORED! I LOVED all the POVS and conversations in this book. It seems like everything flowed together right away, whereas in the past few arcs it took a while for all the main characters' stories to connect with each other. Tawnypelt's POV was my favorite. It was the best choice they could have made to make an old fan favorite cat a main character. I LOVED seeing her talk to Squirrelstar and Brambleclaw! As Midnight was my first Warriors book and my favorite, every time they mention the quest and the six cats it makes me feel extremely happy and nostalgic. The characters actually felt like their old selves again. Tawny, Squirrel and Bramble all felt like old friends, and hell even Crowfeather was important. And STORMFUR!! Unpopular opinion but I love when they go back to the tribe. And LOL if Crowfeather actually died I'm going to die laughing. I feel like they wouldn't kill him, but it was so sudden I literally laughed out loud. He's not my least favorite cat, but I feel like his death would be so unexpected I really hope it actually happened (and PLEASE get rid of Tawny x Crow!!)

Lastly, Moonpaw was ADORABLE!! I LOVED her interactions with Jayfeather and Alderheart, and how she bonded with both Jayfeather and Brambleclaw. It was a great way to bring the old characters back in, and this book really blended old and new characters/plots together SO well. Morningkit is also a great and original character, and in my review of The Elder's Quest I said I wished the Warriors team would think of something original. And it seems like they actually did!! I have no idea if the Clans will actually leave again to find a new place to live, which would just be a repeat of The New Prophecy, but it honestly looks like something else will happen. There are so many mysteries and cliffhangers right now that I actually can't wait for the rest of this arc!! This was a pleasant surprise and made me excited about Warriors again.

i can't lie this is like an 8/10 for me... SUCH an improvement from the elder's quest

plot points felt like they had much more weight this time around, and hidden moon made me feel for the characters than book one did.

first of all, i am SO glad to get starlingpaw's point of view. i'm sure some people found him annoying, but honestly his thought processes were very realistically immature. his arc in this book was well done. the reveal that he could see morningkit genuinely caught me off guard— i forgotten that he's related to tree, honestly!! also, i was happy to see the tribe again. i really do enjoy seeing them, and i appreciate how the trip was contained to a couple of chapters. it didn't really feel like filler, especially because they contained important parts of starlingpaw's arc for this book.

tawnypelt's pov was much less grating on me in this book, and i found her interactions with squilfstar and the thunderclan elders very endearing. brambleclaw's role in this book is really interesting to me as well, but i'll go over that in my moonpaw paragraph, hehe :3 in any case, her chapters felt much less one note, to me, now that the vision she received is out in the open. i'm interested to see how that impacts the inter-clan politics in the following books

moonpaw is the star of the arc still, in my mind. brambleclaw acting as her protector as he wavers between life and death was such a cool reveal to me, even if i'm not very fond of him. i do feel very bad for morningkit, despite the earnestly antagonistic turn she takes in the last chapter. when moonpaw and her parents reminisced about morningkit, i did tear up a little i will be honest... themes of grief always hit me the hardest

i am super excited to see where this arc goes next!!! it's so incredibly camp, and i'm very here for all of the drama >:3

This was surprisingly good! After a mostly underwhelming first installment, I'll admit I wasn't expecting too much from this book, but it proved me wrong!

Clarissa is clearly trying to prove herself by recalling details from earlier books and providing strong characterization to the protagonists (particularly Starlingpaw, whom I loved!), and it really shows. There is not a lot to discuss in terms of plot, as in all honesty not much happens in this book, but the fun character moments and well-written dynamics more than make up for it.

Really excited to see how this arc continues to unfold and what else Clarissa specifically has in store! She's doing a terrific job so far as part of the Erin team.

This was a really strong entry, and would definitely get a 4.5/5 if I could do that on here.

I was iffy about gaining Starlingpaw as a protagonist, as I’d been enjoying Leafstar’s pov, but he ended up becoming quite interesting. His paranoia and obsessive tendencies made him very fun to follow (I do hope that these tendencies stick around in the next books of the arc because it did make him stand out from other protagonists).

Tawnypelt was great as always, she really is a great choice of protagonist. Her fixation on justice gave her constant drive in her chapters.

Moonpaw’s chapters became my favourites by the end of the book. Her tussle with her sister is fun and tense, edged with that recurring ominous tone. And her dynamics with Brambleclaw and Jayfeather are so lovely as well. You can’t help but feel frustrated with how helpless her Clanmates are making her, but it does encourage you to keep tearing through pages to find a resolution.

The side characters were well done in this installment, and much more consistent than in previous arcs. Brambleclaw and Jayfeather were given plenty of screen time that bolstered them, I could have a good idea of Nectarsong’s personality despite her not having much screen time, and she stayed acting like how I’d expect her to (very committed to teaching and her duties without getting too loose). I’ve never been huge on Brambleclaw (he’s never done too much for me) but I LOVED him in this book. I love how much The Broken Code has affected him and I loved the intelligence and kindness that he showed — he finally seemed to be comprising the personality that the Erins had always envisioned for him. Squirrelstar and Tawnypelt were shown to have friendship and understanding of each other; Tawnypelt also seems to be growing to have this same sort of relationship with Leafstar. The side characters were all done so much justice in Hidden Moon.

The plot was mainly setup, considering this is still only the second book in a six book arc. Despite this, I never got bored. The setups for Moonpaw and Tawnypelt were especially good and are establishing really interesting futures for them. I’m so intrigued for how the arc’s plot will stand out. I’d mentioned in my review for The Elders’ Quest how this arc seems like it could work as a soft reset for this series, and Hidden Moon’s talk of elders’ mortality and possibly moving locations seems to be encouraging this.

Between this and the uptick in quality with the last two Super Editions, I’m feeling pretty confident about this arc. If the rest of the arc carries along this momentum, this could truly be one of the best arcs Warriors has ever made.

The romantic tension between Crowfeather and Tawnypelt is one of the most interesting parts of this book.

I’m not sure how to feel about Moonpaw or Starlingpaw other than they are annoying apprentices that can’t just say what’s on their mind.

I’m curious how this series will end and I hope Brambleclaw will play a larger role. He’s earned it.

I really enjoyed this book! The plot was good with Tigerstar not listing to Tawnypelt and all but I hate the cliffhanger!!! How could Erin Hunter leave us like that until March!!!! I really like Tawnypelt and Crowfeather together. The last chapter in Starlingpaw’s perspective is the worst!!!! Is Crowfeather dead? Why???????? 😭 After I finished this book, I was just staring at it like I had just read it wrong and hoping that it wasn’t true. I loved this book!❤️

So, this is a pretty solid “bridge” book.

There’s not a lot of action—but we get plenty of scene setting. You can see the pieces moving into place for the next big conflict.

What I’m enjoying most about this series so far is its focus on the elder cats, particularly my girl Tawnypelt and my dear old man Brambleclaw. Both are experiencing aging in different ways, with Tawnypelt getting a “second lease” on life while Brambleclaw is grappling with the onset of memory issues.

I think it’s important for young readers to have stories that feature some of the issues that occur as aging sets in. It can be helpful for young readers in understanding what’s going on with their own aging loved ones.

So far, I’m very impressed by these storylines and I’m looking forward to seeing where this journey leads~

Uhm WHAT?!? Did they kill off Crowfeather?!! So disappointing. The romance between him and Tawnypelt was a bit ridiculous, but kinda funny but now he just died?! all of the sudden?! help 😭 but the rest of the book was interesting! Definitely better than last arc, the characters are farr more interesting.

The narration of this book was very flat, expressionless, and lacked discernment between all of the different characters. There was a LOT of audio editing mistakes and I have a feeling this is due to AI editing- which sucks. The audio would either slow down for a word or two or speed up quickly for no reason, there’d be awkward pauses and choppy sentences, and sometimes the narrator sounded muffled or echoed. Not a very immersive experience overall.

This review has spoilers in it.

You have been warned😜

Moonpaw is my favorite character in this entire franchise. I love all of her chapters and I think her story is very interesting. I love all of her interactions with Jayfeather. He understands that something is wrong and that she isn’t telling him everything but he still helps her and he is so sweet.🥹 The part where Moonpaws parents take her to where Morningkit was buried broke my heart💔 I really like that Morningkit is starting to be a villain. She is still just a little kid and that almost makes her an even scarier villain because she doesn’t fully understand what she is doing.

I like Starlingpaw as the comedic relief character. His chapters are sort of repetitive with him thinking Frecklewish was the two faced cat and with blaming himself for his father’s death but entertaining nonetheless.

Tawneypelt has been one of my favorite characters since she was introduced into the story and I’m very glad that she is a POV character. I love all of the scenes with her and Brambleclaw together. The scene where Brambleclaw wakes up and asks her how her mate and kits are was so sad😭

Brambleclaw. I have some mixed feelings about this cat. I hated him in the second arc because he was horrible to Squirrelflight and he made her scared. He got his act together in Arc 3 but I still didn’t like him that much. I don’t remember much of how he is in any other arcs but I know that he gets better and kinder throughout the books. I feel so bad for him in this book. He went through so much when Ashfur possessed him and now he has a terrible infection and is struggling with memory loss and confusion. I really hope he doesn’t die because I have learned to love him and it would be way too sad if he died.

Don’t even get me started on Tigerstar. All I’m going to say is that I hope he stops being such a big character because he is so frustrating.

I hate Crowfeather as a character and I dislike that Tawneypelt sees him as a love interest. I like the plot line of her realizing that she can love another cat after her mate (please correct me if I’m wrong) Rowanstar died but I wish that it could have been any other cat.
Crowfeather is collecting lovers like Pokémon and Tawneypelt can do so much better.

Overall I like this book a lot better than the first one. This book is definitely a filler book that is meant to set up interesting plot points for the rest of the series but the plot that it is setting up is extremely interesting and I can’t wait for the next one.

oh. my. goodness.

NOT CROWFEATHER WHY

WHY CROWFEATHER

OF ALL THE CATS WHY CROWFEATHER

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHYYYYYYYYYYYY

...

HE WAS SUCH A COMPLICATED CHARACTER THAT HAD SO MANY STORIES AND SO MUCH TRAUMA AND NOW HE'S DEAD.

DEAD.

RIP to the WindClan deputy, the cat who led the way to the lake, who lost his one true love on that journey. RIP to the father of Jayfeather, Hollyleaf, Lionblaze, and Breezepelt. RIP to the lover of Feathertail, Nightcloud, Leafpool, and Tawnypelt (how did he pull so many tho). RIP to the fearless warrior who was part of the og generation. You'll be missed.

I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE HE'S DEAD

Apart from CROWFEATHER, the book was decent. Fulfilled all expectations of a Warrior Cats book. The plot was cool, the whole Moonpool thing, Morningkit thing, and SkyClan leadership. Brambleclaw is 100% a major factor, as is the all Tigerstar not listening to Tawnypelt thing. I'm excited for the next book where Tawnypelt talks to the elders!

I'm ALSO anticipating huge reactions from Crowfeather's kin/cats who knew him regarding his death.

IF ONLY we could get the scene where he goes to StarClan - ASSUMING HE CAN STILL GO TO STARCLAN AFTER THE WHOLE THING W THE NOT BEING ABLE TO REACH STARCLAN

ISTG IF HE CAN'T GO TO STARCLAN-

anyways solid 4.5/5

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an audio ARC.

I overall really enjoyed this book. It was a lot of fun to listen to. It also has done something with this series that hasn't been done before that I'm still deciding how I feel about. However I do like following each of the pov's. Each character has an equally interesting struggle to follow with and I really do enjoy seeing each character trying overcime or adapt with each one. Tawnypelt is always a fascinating character and seeing her struggling with the changing clans is interesting. I also do enjoy Moonpaw's story and what seems to be being ser up for her character. I enjoyed the introduction music for this book. The narrator also did a great jib with this book. I'm really looking forward to where the next book will take us.

It's a mixed bag. Moonpaw chapters are awesome and interesting. She still has the best chapters in the book.
Starlingpaw chapters are adorable but some did feel a bit... Empty. So far his POV was only about personal development, which is good, but him being so detached from the actual plot makes you feel like you're reading a side story from time to time. It is kind of linked by the fact he thinks Tawnypelt wants his help and suspect Fidgetflake but it still felt very detached from everything.
Tawnypelt.... Tawnypelt chapters are the reason rating this book is so hard. Tigerstar has always been written as someone with a deep care for his family, he is now unrecognisable, every interaction with him was frustrating, not enjoyable to read. But once she left Shadowclan, her POV instantly became better.

This book was crazy. I expected that in the end Starlingpaw was going to get snatched by the eagle while they were headed back to the lake.. what I didn't expect was Crowfeather falling to his death onto rocks.. which they left as a cliffhanger. Oh my God I couldn't even believe it happened and he's dead right.. like no way he lived that.

As for tawnypelt, I don't know how I feel, she spent so much time wondering if it was just a dream or not that she just spends the whole time worrying about brambleclaw being so sickly.

As for moonpaw I'm a bit tired of her but she's trying to help her sister rather then ignoring her and she needs to just tell Jayfeather, I'm sure he'd understand..

But yea I'm pretty sure Crowfeather is dead.. : /
