Renard's Deliverance

Rate this book
When you play hard, sometimes you fall hard . . .

Moving to Haven had saved Renard’s life.
He wasn’t perfect.
Far from it.
He was a surly, sarcastic teddy bear. With a slight sadistic streak.
And a large protective side when he cared about someone.
Which didn’t happen very often.

Opal was loud, loyal, and brave.
She knew she wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but she didn’t care.
After moving to Haven, she joined the local club.
But no one interested her as much as grouchy, gorgeous Renard.
Renard has plans. And they don’t include getting involved with anyone. However, he can’t seem to get her out of his mind.

When her past returns to haunt her . . . Renard soon figures out that he will do anything to protect the woman he loves.

Haven,Texas is one of my favorite places to visit,so when Laylah Roberts told me she was going back to see how Opal was doing,i tagged along.
The Malones are a crazy bunch, and they’d basically adopted Opal after she brought home the sister they didn’t know they had.
And not only did she bring Ryleigh home, she also gave them Lilac and her baby boy Kye.
But she needed space,so Alec bought a house in Haven she could then rent.
What happened after she moved in,with the help of the Malones, was a rollercoaster ride she never saw coming.

Opal had trouble seeing herself as worthy, and that wasn’t just because of what happened to her thanks to that bastard Stefan.
She’d lived a life of being abused, let down, and left by everyone she’d known….until,at her lowest point in life, she met Lilac and Ryleigh.
They gave her reason to fight for a place of her own in life,to demand to be treated as she should be,even if her inner demons wouldn’t shut up.
But living with the Malones wasn’t where she wanted to stay,so when Alec offered her the house he’d bought, she took it…..not knowing how life changing it would end up being.

Renard didn’t feel worthy after being the only survivor of his unit, but after Saxon saved him from the gutter,he became the grumpiest, growliest, best chef he could be in his restaurant.
Until he heard Opal singing one evening….and saw past the loud,in your face, armor she wore.
That was the moment his life changed, even if he struggled to accept he deserved it at first.
Because she saw him,she understood him, like no one ever did before, and he’d be damned if he’d let her walk away…..even if he couldn’t promise her forever.

The way these two saw through eachother’s armor, and accepted the kind, but damaged souls behind it,was wonderful to see.
They called eachother out on their bullshit, and without even realizing it,helped eachother heal.
I laughed at their silly banter, swooned at their heartwarming moments, and loved their sexy times.
But while they were building something of a future together,i know they didn’t call it a future at the time, but still….there was someone nearby with bad intentions.
Someone that wanted Opal for himself, and was angry she didn’t see him the way he wanted to.
And it was this person that almost took away Opal and Renard’s chance at their happy after!
And if that wasn’t enough,Opal’s past was surfacing….and it could ruin everything for her….if she survived her stalker.

This was a beautiful addition to the Haven,Texas series, and i loved every second!
Seeing the Malones,as well as Saxon and his family, and all the others in Haven, again was a welcome treat.
Not to mention Ryleigh….and Linc….what’s going on with them??
And the Jones’ men….the one that stayed,as well as the ones that left….i can’t wait to hear more about them.
But most of all,i loved how Opal and Renard found their own unique happy after!

Wow! What a ride this gem of a book by Ms.Roberts was. It was fast-paced, emotionally gripping, and beautifully written, with characters that were easy to like—well, most of them. Once this story had its claws in me, I was hooked. It was such an entertaining and effortless read, but it did have complex characters in Opal and Renard who had similar traumatic pasts that left them with nightmares and trust issues. I enjoyed the humor infused in the storyline, especially Clem’s attack chicken and her pet pig, Mr pork chop. The story wouldn't be complete without the Malone brothers and the people of Haven, who came out in mass to close ranks and support Opal. Throw in a nosy neighbor, her bumbling nephew, and the FBI to create chaos, and the story is complete.

OpaI was bold, sassy, and quick with a retort. If you dig deeper to peel back the layers, you will understand why she felt unworthy of happiness with Renard. Opal had a checkered past and was used to fighting her own battles, but try telling that to the Malone brothers, who adopted Opal into their ever-growing family. I admired Opal; she was courageous as she fought against becoming a victim again.

The book dives straight into Renard’s background and psyche, giving a glimpse of his demons that prevented him from forming relationships, that is, until Opal came his way. Even then, he would not commit to a long-term commitment, but when Opal was in danger and Renard realized that she was his future, his protective streak appeared in full force. I liked Renard, but he was not everyone's cup of tea. He was bossy, moody, demanding, and protective. He was the only person to shatter Opal’s prickly shell.

I loved the push-and-pull and the candid portrayal of this couple as they struggled to learn how to trust each other. And yes, they did deserve to be happy.

Oh So Wonderful
I just love the town of Haven. If it was real, I would definitely move there. What can we say about Rennard he was not what I expected but he was so much more. in previous books You realize that he is a surly bastard with his own demons, but when you really get to know him, there is so much more All he needed was to find a sassy, unique woman with Demons of her own. Opal loved two things in this life her two best friends you see they saved each other from a horrible abusive situation and they grounded her. that one of her best friends was a long lost Malone sister that she had helped protect and bring to her brothers made Opal family to the Malones When Opal and Rennard meet the story truly becomes magical. Watching these two secret filled damaged people drop their barriers and fall in love. There are many twists, but oh my it was enjoyable.

Ok, wow, I wasn't expecting to enjoy this pairing as much as I did. I can admit when I was wrong....hot cover for an amazing story, a must read.

I love the town of Haven and the fiercely loyal and protective people who live there...and this book really brought home what this series is really all about, and showed Opal and Renard that they truly didn't want to leave.

These two were truly made for each other, their pasts each held scars that the other understood and knew how to sooth, how could a reader not swoon?

Laylah also introduced us in more detail to the FBI Jones Brothers, I do believe that was on purpose....can't wait to see what's in store.

Very much enjoyed this book and am so happy to add it to the Haven/Laylah collection.

I love Haven Texas!!

OMG thank you Laylah Roberts, for an amazing book about one of my favorite Haven people, Renard!! I have adored him since he first appeared in Saxon’s Soul and for him to have his own story made me sooo happy. He & Opal are great together!! She brings out the teddy bear in him & he brings out the softer side of her. I love it. And the banter!! I haven’t laughed this much reading a book in a long time. How refreshing to see a couple that actually define the term “Live, Laugh, Love”!! I can’t wait to see in future stories about them & their babies!!

Opal and Renard have an interesting relationship. Both of them are too afraid to take a chance on one another. They’re both very headstrong and stubborn to admit they want the relationship to go further.
Both have PTSD. Renard from the military and Opal from having bad relationships.
It was a great read and am looking forward to what happens next in the town of Heaven Texas.

Both Opal and Renard have secrets and pasts that torment them in the present. Bold attitudes only go so far when facing issues that cause hurt and harm emotionally. Together they find a medium that calms the chaos, but when a new threat appears, revelations of feelings may be more than either can handle alone.

Oh my god. I Knew I’d love Renard’s HEA. I was so right.
I’m a sucker for a grump who’s only sweet with his woman and babies.
I love him.
And Opal is so perfect for him!
I am a little sad his full name wasn’t revealed, but that’s the tiniest gripe ever.
Everything else was so good!

There is nothing quite like a super grumpy man that is an absolute marshmallow for his girl and only for his girl!
Renard is so grumpy it’s hysterical! Opal is loud and brash but she’s protecting a fragile heart. Together they work! There are so many scenes that are just funny! This series delivers every single time!

Renard and Opal

Everyone of Layla Roberts books are phenomenal. The Haven Texas series is no exception, this one is my new favorite. Both main characters come with their own trauma and demons, but in finding each other they finally begin to heal. I highly recommend this book and the series.

As usual with Layla Roberts books can not wait to read and want to keep going till it’s finished and then want the next one already. Everyone looks after everyone in Haven and there are lots of twists and turns in the book.

I was so glad Renard got a book. Renard is this gruff, growley chef, who meets his match in Opal. These to match each other in every way. If you like your men big teddy bears for the one women he loves and his women sassy, then this is your book! You won't regret reading it!

Great Read

I loved Opal and Renard so freaking much.

Both are grumps but Opal is more lively while Renard tries to pretend he can’t stand anyone.

Renard gave me so many swoons, it was ridiculous. He’s so gruff but such a teddy bear. I loved Opal as well, she’s cranky but she’s wild too. My heart broke for them both, but gods they are so perfect for each other!

A simply wonderful addition to the Malones family and the growing family members that comes along
I had been looking forward to reading the story and the pairing of Opal who had recently come into the Malone family after she rescued their sister Ryleigh and Lilac along with baby Kai who without the bravery and determination of Opal probably would never have made it to the safety of the Malone brothers who would ensure their safety for the rest of their lives.
Opal had decided that she wanted a little space so wanted to move out of the Malone house and find somewhere of her own and had been surprised when Alec had purchased a house in Haven and had offered her the rental of the property knowing she would be somewhere fairly close and safe.
Reynard is the chef at the local restaurant he is a excellent reputation for his dishes and people travel from towns all around to taste his food which is exceedingly good. He is well known in Haven and even though he is well known for his rather short temper and very brisk attitude with those that annoy him when it comes to women and babies, he is a great big teddy bear.
When Opal and Reynard meet, they seem to hit it off almost instantly watching her and the way she had stood up for Ryleigh that was feeding her baby Kai in his restaurant, firmly telling two old biddies exactly what she though of them complaining about such a natural act. Opal had been impressed with the six-foot something chef with wonderful forearms had come to her aid in his restaurant, actually ejecting two stuck up women complaining about the baby being fed.
Then as Reynard and Opal start to spend more time together and learn about each other’s lives and the devils that haunt them both they begin to realise that they are actually helping each other in very special ways and that the interest they have in the local BDSM club and what they both needed was another way they connected.
I guarantee that you will love every moment of this book and that you will be like me left looking forward to the next book in this series.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

I’m so glad these two received their HEAs. I didn’t think about them together, before, but it does make sense.

I enjoyed seeing the character development of 2 previously side characters. It was good to see them come into their own. That being said, this book had some issues.

It was fine until Act 3. Then, too much was thrown in. The stalker thing could been removed entirely. It wasn’t really fleshed out. Sure, it was easy to figure out that the uncle had a crush on Opal.

But there were 2 small incidents at her home and then the whole thing was pretty much forgotten until the third act. Where was the build up? Where was the paranoia? Why couldn’t she have found the camera and wondered who did it? The whole thing was largely glossed over and then pulled out last minute.

I get the author is trying to get the 2 FBI agent brothers back to Haven. Opal just went through a horrific ordeal and then we get whiplash by sending her through another. Pick an issue! It makes no sense to have her kidnapped, having her escape and rescuing her neighbor, and then throw her immediately into having a warrant for murder for a sleaze ball.

Remove all the crap from the third act and it’s a decent book with good characters.

📚 Synopsis (Spoiler-Free):
The fifteenth instalment in the Haven, Texas series, Renard’s Deliverance follows a familiar formula — small-town charm, possessive men, and protective dynamics. This time, it’s Renard’s turn to find his match. The heroine is older than many previous leads, adding a slight twist to the series' usual setup. There's some humour, some spice, and the ever-present theme of healing through love, set against the backdrop of a community that runs on secrecy and strong opinions.
🧠 My Thoughts:
I’ve loved earlier books in this series, but they’re starting to lose their charm. This one had glimmers of what used to make the series feel addictive, but by book 15, the formula’s beginning to wear thin. Honestly, the series probably could’ve wrapped up a few books ago.
That said, I did enjoy that the FMC is nearly 30 — although the way she’s written sometimes makes her feel much older, which was a bit odd. Renard himself is a highlight: gruff, funny, and just the right amount of soft underneath the surface.
You could absolutely read this one and enjoy it if you’ve made it this far, but I wouldn’t recommend starting here. In fact, if you’re new to the series, I’d say read through book 12 and stop there. That’s when it still had its spark.

💛Grumpy/Sunshine
💛Forced Proximity
💛Small Town
💛Romantic Suspense

Renard’s Deliverance is the fifteenth book of the Haven, Texas series of interconnected standalones. It is so good to be back in Have, Texas! This whole series brings me comfort and I have reread most of them more than once! Renard and Opal’s story was one that I didn’t want to stop reading once I started it. I loved that Opal was unapologetically herself…loud, quirky, and so strong! She has had a rough life and stood strong through all of it. Renard is my favorite type of MMC. He is grumpy, gruff and protective. These two were both hiding behind their walls but throughout the story they were able to let the other in. They had a connect from the beginning and they both fought for each other. This was a fairly quick read that had me hooked from the first page. If you like a grump hero, funny heroine, suspense, forced proximity and found family in a small town then you won’t want to pass this one up!

I absolutely loved this story and I don’t think I have laughed, while reading a story, as much as I have at this one. The dialogue is well written, entertaining and you just never knew what was going to be said, one moment to the next. I especially loved Renard and the fact that the one person who was perfect for him was Opal. The banter between them is absolutely hilarious. I love the Malone’s and all of the chaos that surrounds them. They are a unique and overly protective family of those they care about. I loved everything about this story and highly recommend it. I absolutely loved the cover pic.

This book was absolutely just the best. We have met Renard before as we have Opal, i loved these two they both have pasts that define who they are today. Renard is Grumpy as a bear and as a chef he he is a good one, meanwhile Opal is always getting herself into trouble, she is loud at times and is straight up.
However when these two meet each other, it is Opal who makes Renard think and want more of her, but its Opal who has secrets from her past. Slowly Renard gets her to open up because he sees who she really is behind the outta exterier .

This really was the best to read as i said because Opal really can say some funny stuff at times as can Renard, another book that really does rate 5plus stars

Opal's life has not been easy. The Malone's have adopted her as family and Alec has become her guardian. When Opal decides to branch out on her own, Alec finds her a home in town. As Opal is settling in, she is harassed by her elderly neighbor. Renard is an haunted man. While in the military his whole team is killed and he survived. Renard is attracted to Opal but he has a plan to leave Haven. Renard is drawn to Opal and is unable to fight his attraction. So they embark on a friend's with benefits type of relationship. A they grow closer, the neighbor across the street continues to harass Opal for being different. When seemly wierd things happen, Opal is put in danger an the Opal's past comes back and brings the FBI. This book left me wanting more and I was a bit disappointed.

What a lovely story and the dialogue between Opal and Renard was brilliant, it made me laugh several times. Barney’s actions were no surprise and I don’t think they were meant to be but it served it’s purpose in and showed what an incredible community Haven is and how wonderful the people are even if some of them are a handful. Opal’s strength is amazing and it is great to see her happy, secure, healthy and in love. Who thought Renard would be such a marshmallow for the right woman. Two deserving characters who have finally laid their ghosts to rest and brought joy to readers.

Individually and together

I have loved lived loved Renard everytime he has shown up. And Opal absolutely yes yes yes. Putting them together I loved it. Steel meets steel that softens the brittle edges.

I will say that I didn't particularly care for the 3rd act storyline, even though it did bring in Jardin 😋. It really just felt like a left field thing. More to do with introducing the Jones Brothers into the world than about Opal herself.

Overall, totally love the exploration of them as individuals and then building and growing together.
