The Elven Heartbound Collection
"The world may seem dark now, but I promise there is light. And if we can't find it, we'll create it ourselves."
Elven Heartbound is a beloved web serial that got its start on Kindle Vella. If you want cozy fantasy romance with a hint of humor, a lot of love, and enough family to feel like home, you’ve come to the right place. This volume is a compilation of Episodes 1-68 from the first two seasons, wrapped up between book covers for the book lovers among us.
Please keep in mind that Elven Heartbound was written as a serial, not a novel. It prioritizes emotional resonance and character growth over conventional plot beats.
(2.5 ⭐️) This was alright… Very long considering nothing really happens at all. At about 80% we see a glimpse of a potential conflict finally emerging. It’s at nearly 90% before the conflict (if you can even call it that?) truly presents itself. It’s a lot of words and relationship building before any real sort of action happens. And that action is minimal at best.
The writing is alright. The characters are alright… Both men are far too timid/submissive for my taste. Despite the attempt at a slow burn (with actual fire magic), it’s a simmer at best. I also think jumping between so many different characters and couples hindered the story. Perhaps if it were broken into two books, one for each couple, and then the stories converged later… that might improve it.
It was a bit of a challenge to finish it and my overall impression is meh. I won’t be continuing the series.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about these couples- wonderful clean love stories with *all* the feels, and such tender and real romance. It's the kind of book that makes me want to curl up in an armchair with cookies while I read.
So I'm reading this as a book from Elizabeth Ash's website. It has both the first and second season in it. With that said, I will now review up to episode 68.
This book follows two sets of siblings, Cerian and Elowyn (Elves) and Rominy and Arisanna (Humans). Rominy and Elowyn are promised to each other, and Rominy will take the throne, making Elowyn his Queen. Cerian and Arisanna are also promised to each other. This is done to help bring peace between the Elves and Humans after fighting a long war between them.
This book is very cute and if you are looking for a YA sort of romance with fantasy elements then this is for you. The romance is slow burn and it takes a while to see any kind of romantic interactions between these two couples and at times they were almost exactly mirroring each other with the things they said and did. Which some may find endearing, but I found it to be repetitive, and it got old quickly.
For me, I found Rominy and Elowyn to be the more exciting pair in terms of their romance and the things they did in this book. I did grow to like Cerian and Arisanna and the way they interact with each other.
I feel like because this was a serial at one point, and it was released on a weekly basis, and there was definitely a point it felt like the author was stretching the story unnecessarily, which got a tad annoying. I understand that the characters in these arranged relationships don't know each other, but the slow burn was a little too slow for my liking. This book came out to be 470 pages and the spiciest thing was some passionate make out sessions which is why I believe this book should be listed as a YA Romantasy. If you are looking for any type of smut, this book isn't for you. As I said before this book is very cute and overly sappy. There was a point that the characters said I love you over 5 times in less than 6 pages of each other, and I am someone who says I love you a lot, but that felt like over kill.
This book wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't great either. The writing was well done, the characters were interesting enough to keep me reading, but the slow burn, the lack of anything spicier than making out just had me wanting more. Also there isn't anything exciting happening in the book that kept me on the edge of my seat. Now I'm not sure how this is marketed since it was a gift from a friend but it is giving the cozy low stakes feelings until the VERY END, which was exciting and disappointing at the same time. I don't think I'm committed enough to the story or characters to keep going.
If you are looking for a cozy, low stakes, slow burn, YA Romantasy that is overly lovey dovey with minimal spice then I would highly recommend this book. If you are someone who likes a more realistic approach to romance where the characters aren't overly sappy and there is some smut, steer clear of this one.
Two kingdoms and an arranged marriage between the children of both kingdoms.
Sounds promising.
The human kingdom has long waited for this day to arrive when their daughter, the “spare” sibling to marry the elven crown prince. To their astonishment, the elves insist it’s their “spare” prince that she is to wed- a rather grumpy prince who tends to run when things get overwhelming- which is often.
There is another catch to the signed treaty from 20 years past. The human crown prince is also sworn to marry the elven princess- which no one in the human kingdom had any idea of. And the double wedding will be the following day.
The story is cute- we’re left reading of these strangers coming to love each other over the next few days. Something is awry, however, in both of their heartlandings- a private place their dreams take them to as a space for them alone. If only heartlandings were something they were allowed to talk about with someone other than their spouse maybe they could find out if it is normal or not… odds are it’s not.
When the elven princess is injured her magic twists it into something deadly and it’s a rush against time to try and save her life and his as their synched hearts mean if she dies so does he.
Sadly, nothing happens in this story except cutesy moments where our couples dance around their growing attraction for one another in awkward moments. No real conflict, no evil villains (unless you count sleeping dragons) and it’s just cloyingly sweet upon sweet until you go into a diabetic coma.
This is a compiled group of chapters the author released originally in serial format and it shows. She does, however, warn us this won’t read like a traditional book, so it’s my fault for continuing onward hoping something will happen to give us an actual plot.
We leave off with a cliffhanger for both couples and I won’t be bothering to read the next compilation coming out- not because the characters aren’t interesting, but because I need more substance to chew on in my reading. This, to me, reads more like the soap operas my grandmother used to watch dragging out the same scenarios in slightly different ways to stretch out the “will they/won’t they” plot lines.
I was going to say “I had nitpicks, but at least this book didn’t make me mad like a certain other elf book I read recently” but this book is kinda worse than that almost, because those "nitpicks" compile and compound and you almost don't realize you wasted your time reading it until the end stretch.
The way the heartbinding magic works makes the romance(s) feel rushed and fake. It was seriously like watching two pairs of people chug diet love potions and then wander around awkwardly for a couple days while it set in… after which they’re smooching and incessantly gushing affirmations and assurances at each other.
The worldbuilding is way too sparse and shallow to be satisfying. The way the characters speak feels modern, the way settings are described most of the time feels modern, and the royalty acts like an average, modern-day American’s vague, near completely unresearched notion of what being/dealing with royalty (or just rich people, honestly) would be like. The elves and elven kingdom are a BIT better, but the author bends over backwards to make sure both of the pairs are as alone and focused on each other as possible for as much as possible, so we aren’t really there even when we’re there most of the time.
I’m still fuming over the big ending conflict. It happened 100% because the royalty in this series is stupid. It was actually a problem I noticed at the beginning and I was trying to be nice and call it a nitpick but based off of what I hear characters saying later, there was literally no reason for that to happen aside from the fact that the elves are dumb. Both countries are doomed.
“This looks extremely uncomfortable,” he says. “You should leave it behind when we depart tomorrow.” “My stays?” “Aptly named. They will stay behind.”
I initially read the first few seasons of this when it was a serial on Kindle, and really enjoyed to read it in a more whole format. The amount of swooniness in this is unparalleled, and I have to say I do have favorites.
"She can’t just curl up beside him and bury her face in his neck and drink him in. Can she? Of course not. That would be...extraordinary."
I'm a sucker for a new magic system, and the idea of the heart bound, the heart landing, AND the elemental magic of the elves really gives it a rich grounding. The raising of children in the different cultures really shines, and shows what helps, and what hurts. I also enjoy them trying to translate for each other and the mishaps with mispronunciations. 🤣
“Are you all right?” “I think so. And at least now I know.” He frowns. “Know what?” She glances down at his chest and bites her lip before looking away. “You definitely sleep without your shirt.”
I ship Cerian and Arisanna SO MUCH, and I know they're married! They have a chance to be vulnerable, to help, and to tease one another in the best of ways. I'm very ready for the next novel to be released!
“Forget everything you’ve been told to be your whole life,” he murmurs near her ear. “And just be mine.”
There is a lot of back and forth between couples in this book, and it took a few chapters until I could figure out which characters were together. The switch wasn't seamless and was jarring. The couple's overall were fine - nothing spectacular. I think if the wives didn't have to coddle their new husbands, the slow burn would have felt like a burn and not parenting. Towards the end, I skipped paragraphs and pages because it just became monotonous of either telling someone to breathe or not to run away from their feelings. We get it - one's grumpy with no emotional intelligence and the other is anxious. And the constant proclamations of love and commitment were sweet until it felt overdone and like it was sucking the air out of the room. It was exhausting to read these parts, which are eventually most of the book. There was also really no plot other than the couples getting to know each other. No conflict, no direct storyline other than they were getting married, and it was a surprise. I originally rated this 3 stars, but as I wrote the review, I realized it was 2.5 at best.
Let me start off by saying that i only read season 1 and 2 and this review is based on just that. i love that this story has a 4 part POV and that it is interchangeable. I also love that it explains things and it has a very detailed description of things with out being overly redundant with it.
i struggled with the time line on things in terms of the setting ( princesses and princes, castles and trains and trams. yet candles for light no electricity yet there is telegrams and travel by horses.) and thus i did not read the rest of the series.
I highly encourage others to give this book series and author a chance as they write a wonderful story line with intricate little details. I found the book to be refreshing.
Thank you to the author for allowing me the ability to enjoy and explore the creativity that is your imagination. I shall explore some of your other books in the future.
3.5⭐ “When you feel like running, find my hand instead. And if you still need to escape, take me with you.” · “My light will fill your darkness,” he whispers. “And when my light wanes, yours will guide me.” · "Until the beating of our hearts fades.” · 'If a blade could pierce his armor, she alone could wield it.' · “I want you to tear down all the walls between us" · 'There are worse things than finding out your husband is attracted to you.' · 'He enjoys holding her hand. No one else gets to hold her hand. Just him. Because she’s his now.' · "I am who I am, and who I am is enough.” · “I want to fall in love with you, Elowyn,” he finally says. “Day by day, hour by hour. Moment by moment. Here in the real world and in the heartlanding. Until one day, becoming as close as lovers feels as natural as breathing.”
Much of the story rests on being good to the people around you, giving benefit of the doubt, trusting and relying on family and those you love, and learning to overcome fears that limit you. The characters drew me in, the writing on the two couples learning of the other half of their heart, that they were now bound to, was heartwarming. While there were a lot of warnings that this doesn't read like a book, that isn't something that I felt was true at all. I found this to be very readable and engrossing.
So much fantasy and romance content relies on intense political intrigue, war, battles, and edge of your seat moments. This did not need it. There were so many sweet and wholesome moments in the story. This is a wonderful read to feel in touch with the softer side of humanity and reconnect with moments that you had with your first love.
Elven Heartbound follows four main characters, Rominy, Elowyn, Cerian, and Arisanna, each with their own unique journey and love story. The dual POV chapters make the story feel very personal and intimate, and I felt deeply connected to each of them. My favorite moments were when they were together in the Heartlanding. Those scenes were exciting and made me want to keep reading to find out what would happen next. I honestly could not put the book down. The story is very sweet, and the emotional tension and yearning between the characters made it even more powerful. I especially loved Rominy and Elowyn’s story. Without giving anything away, their journey really stayed with me, and I found myself crying by the end. I became fully invested in the world and the characters, and I am ready for more.
I love this book so much! I originally read season 1 & 2 on Kindle Novella and the whole time I was reading I was wishing it was in book form. So when I saw a book was being released, you better believe I snapped that up! And the re-read was just as beautiful as I remembered! The world building and magic system is beautiful ❤️ The couples literally make my heart melt❤️
This book is just sweet. An arranged marriage between an elven price and human princess and their human prince and elven princess siblings. Elizabeth does such an amazing job of portraying every emotion the characters feel as they get to know each other and fall in love. There is no angst and absolutely nothing "dark" here, just pure love and swoon-worthy romance!
I usually read dark romance-like, smutty, straight to the action-type books. this came across my book ads so often that I finally decided to give it a shot. it is true that it isnt the smut someone like myself was looking for - but this book/series captured my heart so quickly, I couldn't put it down. as someone struggling with anxiety and a little bit of the 'tism herself, this story was SPOT ON to what I and others like myself experience. also, this book made me cry actual tears near the end. it has been YEARS since I have actually legitimately cried at a book, and the twist in this one just got me. I HIGHLY recommend this series. it is a light, easy read, and though I was not expecting the feels, I am embracing them all the same 😊
The RayView: ✨✨✨✨✨ How It Be Spicin’?: 0.5/🌶️ . Squeeeeeeeeeeeee! I’ve been absolutely dying to get physical editions of Elven Heartbound! As soon as they were announced, I grabbed the kindle version and the deluxe hardback edition. I first discovered Elven Heartbound when it was still in it’s second season. I haven’t been able to catch up since the end of season four, I believe. I hope to be able to soon! Hands down devoured my reread and can’t wait for the rest to be released! this doesn’t read like a normal novel because it originates from Kindle Vella before it was shut down, which was a per episode reading system similar to wattpad in how it works. So keep that in mind!
A good story I remember waiting each week for the next episode to be released through Amazon Vella. I enjoyed each episode and the survey after each one. Now people can read through all the seasons continuously and I wonder if there is a survey for people?
We follow four people as they learn to be with each other and only one was prepared. It's fun to watch the two cultures come together learning from each other. The character development is good and the realism of characters is great. This is an interesting journey for everyone involved and we get to watch it. It’s similar to what is happening in 2025 where everyone is being given the opportunity to learn.
Okay I actually really loved the first two seasons and I was surprised
Spice is 0 Plot 4 Character Development 5 It’s more so the characters really like each other more than they expected to, but there’s not an insta-love or lust It develops awkwardly and in this world that feels authentic.
Do not expect explicit descriptions, I wouldn’t even say “open door” It’s more glimpses and you get the gist But the “joining” won’t occur until end of season 2 and only for one couple
Expect depth and connections More than lust and passion
Saw an ad and chose to download it. Needed something different than my usual reading.
So far It is almost a duplicate of Tara Grayce series Fierce Heart. But he has dark hair. It is hard to read at times because it jumps back and forth mainly between two couples the siblings that married siblings. But there are two other couples every so often. There isn’t really anything super exciting happening other than illness eventually. Both couples fall in love very fast but they are married.
Glad I didn’t pay for it (before kindle unlimited it was like pay $1 or more a chapter or something weird).
Content Closed door but like more descriptive but they are married. No cursing One minor fight
I'd give this a 3.5. I thought this was a really cute and cozy romantasy. I enjoyed the dynamics, but I wish there was more diversity in the exclamations used (ex: whistling wind or stars above). I was definitely getting sick of seeing those words and it started to get really annoying. It may just be the format for me, although I do think this would be nice as either a webcomic or an animated show with episodes. I did enjoy the story and characters though so I will continue to read this series as I want to know more.
I love the unique approach to the concept of bonded mates in this series and the episodic format. Although the insta-love makes me cringe, for the most part I'm enjoying the soft humor and quiet sweetness and am looking forward to the third installment in November.
Heat index: just kisses and some non-detailed touching so far.
Profanity meter: no actual profanity, although "whistling winds" - an elvish exclamation - is way overused.
Ugh this took me so long to power thru. This is very much a YA read. Not my thing. In all fairness it popped up on my FYP and since 99% of my FYP is smutty goodness I thought this had a little spice. One star for storyline, it had lots of interesting world building and very likable characters. Another star for yearning. Very cute yearning. Good communication between characters. Every chapter has been professing their love for one another. Very cute. Keyword cute.
I love Elizabeth Ash's writing and how she shares couples coming together in all the newness and awkwardness that comes with it. This story is no exception to the cute and charming love stories she builds between her characters. I cannot wait to continue this journey with my new favorite characters!
I've been letting this take up space in KU for ages, trying to let future ones get published so I wouldn't have such a long wait for new material. But I'm glad to finally be reading it again. The sweet heart vibe is really nice. Normally you have heat with no sweetness or sweet with no heat. This is enjoyable.
Cute “chick flick” romantasy. 3.75 stars. Close door/ “clean”. I’d say this is like a hallmark fantasy that focuses solely on relationship building. The romance spans across multiple book as it “builds” the love story. I liked that the characters were flawed/real and how they worked to build a foundation for their relationship.
I read some of this when it was available in kindle novella, so I understand the format it was originally intended for. I think it’s sweet and enjoyable but fairly devoid of an actual plot. The characters don’t necessarily develop so much as just repeat the same things over and over with little explanation or reason. Despite the blasé review, it was a pleasant read.
Sweet story. Mild, no plot really. I DNFd at 87% it wasn't going anywhere. Sorry. The elf kingdom and human kingdom have arranged marriages where the princes marry the princesses. The story goes back and forth between the two couples and how their relationship grows. The POV is dif than ive seen so far. Not difficult just different to pick up...
I am in love with these worlds. I have laughed out loud literally and said out loud to nobody, but my cat I love this world. I have cried I have laughed cried. I have been sad and concerned. There is a talent here a real talent and I am so glad that I have gotten the honor of witnessing it. Thank you.
This was exactly as it was advertised with a twist. I loved everything about it and couldn't put it down. The 400 pages seemed like nothing in this world. The format was also different than anything I've read before and I really liked it. I would definitely continue this series.
A very fun read! At first I was a little thrown by the present tense in third person, but other than that it read just like a novel. Really fun scenes with very swoony kisses.
This story is in two parts and ends one. Bit of a cliffhanger. It is so good now I am.impatient for the next part of the story. I hope.the author releases it soon! Clean good read
What a wonderful romantasy! It's so sweet and just the best read. I love how the characters all flow together and all the wonderful scene descriptions! This is a definite hearts and flowers read! Can't wait to get to season 3.
