Angus Reid Mysteries #5

Lilly's Vine: A Mystery Thriller That Blends Faith, Suspense, and Redemption.

Rate this book
A small coastal town. A librarian’s deadly discovery. A murder mystery filled with secrets, lies, and faith. For twelve years, librarian Lilly Cooper has been Weyport's keeper of secrets, collecting whispered confessions like others collect books. But when she discovers a mysterious diary among donated volumes, she finds herself holding a secret that could shatter her coastal town's carefully maintained facade.

The diary belongs to a dead woman. The words inside point to corruption reaching from Weyport's quiet streets to Boston's highest offices. And someone is willing to kill to keep those words buried.

As bodies surface and witnesses disappear, Sheriff Angus Reid knows this is more than a small-town mystery. With help from his team—including a determined forensic expert and a deputy who never misses—he must unravel a conspiracy that threatens everything he's sworn to protect.

But for Lilly, the danger runs deeper than physical threats. Each revelation forces her to question everything she believes about belonging, truth, and redemption. In a town built on buried secrets, she must continue collecting whispers, or finally start speaking truth.

Like a vine breaking through concrete, truth finds a way. But some vines have thorns, and not everyone survives when light pierces darkness.

From award-winning author Urcelia Teixeira comes a gripping Christian mystery thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Blending atmospheric suspense with deep spiritual themes, LILLY'S VINE explores the price of truth and the power of divine timing.

Urcelia Teixeira is an award-winning author of gripping Christian Mystery Thrillers.

You will enjoy her books if you like twisty mysteries tinged with clean action, page-turning suspense, and deep-rooted biblical truths.
All her books are free from profanity and unnecessary sexually suggestive scenes.

She made her writing debut in December 2017, kicking off her newly discovered author journey with her fast-paced archaeological adventure thriller novels that readers have described as ‘Indiana Jones meets Lara Croft with a twist of Bourne.’

But, five novels in, and nearly eighteen months later, she had a spiritual awakening, and she wrote the sixth and final book in her Alex Hunt Adventure Thriller series. She now fondly refers to The Caiaphas Code as her redemption book, her statement of faith.

And although this series has reached multiple Amazon Bestseller lists, she took the bold step of following her true calling and switched to writing what naturally flows from her heart and soul: Christian Suspense.

A committed Christian for nearly twenty years, she now lives by the following mantra:

“I used to be just a writer. Now, I am a writer with a purpose!”

Wow! I was ready to read a book that would keep me reading well into the night. But, I was not prepared for the book that would be the best Urcelia Texeira has written to date. Story line is a compelling read and keeps you asking what is going to happen next. The faith, suspense, and redemption written shows a clear picture of the author's love of Jesus. Urcelia has certainly outdone herself again. I didn't think it was possible for her writing to get any better, but, Lilly's Vine is proof positive that she surpassed her goal. You won't be disappointed!

Lilly is a librarian who is knowledgeable but she loves collecting secrets. When she finds a journal in the library with hidden secrets about her town, Lilly gets kidnapped. Her life is in jeopardy because some people who knew too much were eliminated. Sheriff Angus Reid does all in his power to locate her but puts his faith in God. A captivating thriller which had my heart in my mouth at Lilly's plight. We can learn from Lilly that harbouring secrets does not bring the solace which comes from God.

The scenery and people of Weyport come to life in this well written mystery that keeps you reading and enjoying the story of a quiet librarian who suddenly vanishes. Lilly has been the confidante to several patrons at the library and it seems she now has to deal with some consequences of hearing secrets that she wishes she did not know about. What will be the cost to Lilly and others in the community? Hopefully Sheriff Reid and his team will solve the puzzle before it is too late.

Lily’s Vine could well be my favourite Angus Reid story yet!! I could not put this book down and was sitting on the edge of my seat as twist after twist came through the storyline. At the beginning Lily annoyed me but not long into the story I started to understand why she was the way she was and the more it unfolded, the more my respect for her grew and I found myself really hoping that God would reveal Himself to her and give her peace. Thank you Urcelia for another brilliant, giving God the glory, exciting, nerve wracking, heart warming story / I cannot wait for book 6 in the series.

Lilly’s Vine is book 5 of Urcelia Teixeira’s book series about Angus Reid, the sheriff in Weyport, a small coastal town in New England. (I suggest you read Urcelia’s prequel, Lost Boy Found, which lays the foundation for Angus and the town he is now protecting.) Even though Lilly’s Vine is book 5 in a series, you can enjoy this book without reading the earlier books in the series as they are all stand alone books.

Lilly Cooper is the protagonist in this book. She’s the librarian in Weyport and keeper of the town’s whispered things. She knows about everyone, but no one knows about her as she keeps to herself. Sadly, the town misjudges her. She is alone; a woman who has been rejected by family and friends.
The prologue immediately drew me in, gluing my eyes to the pages. A leather-bound diary is left in the donated books. One evening, after the library is closed, Lilly begins reading the diary. She is alarmed at the nefarious details. “If you are reading this, they’re probably watching you too.” Then she senses someone else is in the library. My skin stood on end, wondering what was going to happen next.

The first five chapters help set the backdrop for the rest of the book. The reader gets to know a few more details about Lilly and the diary. Lilly keeps the diary with her and continues reading of a crime scheme that runs deep in the community and all the way to Boston and the State level. And then, the end of the prologue is repeated, this time with Lilly being chased by the unwelcomed guest.

Sheriff Angus Reid appears in chapter 6. Angus is on the Weyport shoreline with his border collie, Scout, when he gets a call that Lilly is missing. Her front door was open and her house ransacked. Angus and his associate, Miguel, slowly begin piecing together clues. A mysterious woman on a bike, a hooded man seen outside Lilly’s place, a dead body. I’ll stop with details as it is quite the mystery that gets unraveled and solved. But do note, the last chapter leaves the reader hanging as a years’ old nagging question for Angus gets new information. More, please…..

I’ve read all of the Angus Reid books and with each one I see Urcelia growing in her craft. Her wordsmithing in this book caused me to visualize what was happening. Urcelia has great attention to detail. I could not put the book down and was kept on the edge of my seat.

I appreciate the cleanness of Urcelia’s books. No swearing. No sex. No graphic violence. I love that God is always part of every book. Her books are inspirational and have great redemptive endings. Urcelia writes a novel everyone can enjoy – from teen to grandparent.

I recommend you add Lilly’s Vine to your spring reading list. It’s a great suspense filled book that will keep you guessing until the end.

A beautiful Christian mystery which I found in my case mostly met the author’s goals to both entertain as well as to inspire reflection on the scriptures woven into the story (see authors note immediately after the last chapter.) This totally engrossing Angus Reid murder mystery revolves around secrets and gossip where Lilly a knowledgeable and orderly librarian lives a very lonely life. The most excitement Lilly experiences is collecting secrets involving people in her community and does she ever get herself into a dangerous situation where it might have been better for her had she just minded her own business. While all seems to be falling apart our Sheriff Angus Reid comes to the rescue - this guy outwardly exudes calm and caring. He deeply cares about the well-being of his staff and community as well as finding justice for victims of crime. While he doesn’t have all the answers he does have his strong faith in God and this sustains him through the exciting resolution. While reading I highlighted many meaningful passages and by the time I got to the end of the book I was amazed that the wisdom shared really stayed with me and have since revisited referenced scriptures as well as wise words offered and spent time in further reflection. For example, “loyalty built on fear doesn’t last when the fear is gone” and ‘real truth, ……. worked differently. It didn’t hide in shadows or speak in whispers. It grew like a vine, breaking through walls……. always reaching toward light.’ I enjoy this author’s inspired writing so much and recommend this book.

In the garden of faith, even a single thorn can poison the vine.

Coincidence is just God’s way of remaining anonymous - Einstein This statement requires thought particularly as you begin to read about librarian Lillian Cooper. Always wearing a silver leaf brooch, she has spent many years listening, collecting and trading in the currency of secrets - the ones about everyone else. No one seems to know anything about Lilly except that she was a nice person. If that was true, then why is she suddenly missing? What did the latest donation of books have in it that got her abducted?

Sheriff Angus Reid and his deputies try to follow the clues that always seem to end in a roadblock. The answers are out there, but so are the dangers. Assault, murder and more - it was time to let the light in. The war for truth was about to begin. But who else would be lost as the light begins to shine? Will Lilly finally realize that she is loved and important to God?

An early copy of Angus Reid Mysteries Book 5 was received through Purpose Bound Press and BookFunnel. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.

A new Angus Reid mystery to sink our teeth into.

Lilly is a small town gossiper who is well connected within the centre of Weyport's social website of secrets and shenanigans.

Lilly's skilful navigation and meticulous attention to detail have now landed her in hot water with someone who is very determined to keep her silenced and the secrets buried deep.

As Angus and his dedicated team search for Lilly and any answers to her whereabouts or what secrets Weyport is hiding, now becomes more dangerous as the truth starts to reveal itself.

A very well intricate woven web of secrets and betrayal and corruption and hidden truths will be revealed plus a few questions that will keep you coming back for the next Angus Reid mystery.
