How lucky are we to get this story as a novel, manhua, manga, donghua, and live action 🥰. The manhua is a little choppy as others have pointed out and feels like it’s missing something but I still adore it. At this point I just think of it as a beautiful art book of one of my favorite stories. Also, four pages of WY and LZ “nuzzling” 🥰
Screaming, crying, throwing up! Rereading MDZS will always be the death of me.
Yiling Laozu's vulnerability in front of Hanguang-Jun and their conversation about that nice road to go by will always strike me. He’s not choosing the demonic path because he wants to, but because it’s the only way left for him to protect the people who rely on him. No one has ever given him a clear, righteous path where he can protect others without being judged or condemned. It’s heartbreaking because you can tell he’s not trying to be defiant—he’s just trying to hold onto his humanity in a world that won’t let him. Because all in all, there is no such road.
Also, the Wen remnants they so wanted to purge, has once again resurrected for a moment just to save them, the same people who wants them eliminated. It's so sad! I'm not crying, you are!
VOL 11 of Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation is literally chaos, drama, and emotions all in one 😭🔥
Wei Wuxian just standing there destroying everyone with facts?? ICONIC. And Lan Zhan silently supporting him the whole time—pls that’s husband behavior fr. The confrontations were SO satisfying, watching the truth slowly come out had me livinggg.
Also the juniors?? Ride-or-die energy, I love them sm 🫶
Only complaint: it ended way too fast. I was NOT ready to leave this volume 💔✨
“Why can’t the world give me a broad, easy road? One that allows me to protect the ones I care about without needing to cultivate a demonic path?”
It’s always hit or miss when a manhua adapts a novel, and while this one rushes through some beats and cuts a few corners, it’s better than most. The pacing can get choppy, but the core emotional threads hold up. The art still does a good job capturing the mood, and the character expressions land where they need to. There’s a clear effort to keep the story intact even when the structure starts to buckle under the pressure of fitting everything in.
This volume leans heavily into emotional fallout, moral lines, and complex loyalties. You can feel the story starting to reach a boiling point, with the tension between characters bubbling just under the surface. Wei Wuxian’s inner turmoil gets plenty of space, and his dynamic with Lan Wangji continues to be the quiet anchor in the middle of the chaos. There’s a lot going on here—old ghosts, blurred lines, the kind of loyalty that hurts more than it heals—but the moments of warmth and unexpected humor help keep it from drowning in its own drama.
Even with the pacing issues, there’s real weight behind the choices characters make. You can tell the creative team respects the source material even if the adaptation can’t always keep up with it. It’s not flawless, but it’s engaging, emotional, and still very much worth the read.
god original timeline wangxian make me so emotional 😣 future timeline makes up for it but also i forgot how horrendously depressing the end of the past arc was wangxian are truly god’s strongest soldiers
A side quest, in the past (I think 🤔), the point of it was unclear. There really should be a timeline more clearly stated, this series is difficult to follow without it
I am now caught up to what the library has. I think there are just two more volumes but they didn't have them yet. I sincerely hope this ends more like the anime and less like the novel because I truly disliked the way the novel ended (pacing & how romance vs plot tangled with each other)
This volume covers the aftermath of the Yiling Patriarch arc until the Bloodbath at Nightless City, followed by the conclusion of the Second Siege of the Burial Mounds.
I think I have said this before, but the thought wouldn't leave me as I read this volume in particular — the Yi City arc of MDZS is one of the most heartbreaking arcs of all time, every time I read it, it wrenches my heart anew, but thinking of the Yi City Arc as the most heartbreaking arc makes me forget how heartbreaking the end of the Yiling Patriarch arc is. Arguably, this one might actually be the worse one; every time I get to Wen Qing's last scene and she says those words — instant tears. This time it was really surprising because I wasn't feeling particularly emotional up till that point, but the moment I read those words, I instantly choked up. The words themselves are so simple, so impersonal; she isn't delivering a soliloquy on everything Wei Wuxian has done for her, but the simplicity of those words seems to make them even more devastating, an effect that has not lost its potency through the varied adaptations of this story.
There are two scenes that are not adapted into this volume. Firstly, we never get the scene where Jiang Yanli asks Wei Wuxian to decide her future son's courtesy name, which is sad because it means that a reader doesn't have the necessary context to understand why Wen Ning is referring to Jin Ling as Jin Rulan. Secondly, we never get the scene where Wei Wuxian visits Golden Carp Tower three days after Jin Zixuan's death; again, this is made worse because it robs the reader of understanding what Jiang Yanli is talking about when she says that WWX left so quickly the last time he came to visit her in what are to become her final moments.
I really like these two scenes, so I would have loved to see them make their way into the manhua adaptation, but I feel like the bigger fault of this adaptation is removing those scenes but not the follow-up ones, which makes the absence of these scenes even more glaring. I can imagine the latter scenes being especially confusing for somebody who is using the manhua as their entry point into this story, and that's not the sign of a good adaptation.
I'm in the final stretch of this series, and it's hard not to get sad because this will most likely be the end of my journey with MDZS, especially in terms of new content being released for the series. This journey began in 2020, and I'm still here seven years later, which by itself is a testament to my sheer love for this story and its characters. But as the manhua ends, this will definitely be the first of hopefully many goodbyes that I share with this series. An era is coming to an end.
The death of Jin Sixuan by the hands of Wen Ning was the true beginning of Wei Wuxian’s downfall (and imminent loss of control) and it still haunts me up to this day. But finally! The truth about the filthy, good-for-nothing leech—the real evil spawn, Jin Guangyao is exposed! It’s about damned time already. I’m just a bit sad that there’s only two volumes left! What am I going to do with my life now? By the way, the last volume will come out next month! I can’t wait that long!! I want to see how it ends now (even if I have already read it in the novel!)
Anyone that hasn’t read the novel or watched any of the adaptations is going to be very confused by this volume. I’ve read and watched everything, but even I was thrown off by how this one was laid out.
I love the yiling patriach so much. He is so dark and majestic istfg! But why is the cultivation world so fckn annoying and backstabberish? But I love how the juniors protect wwx
TREMENDO. Me encantan

Finally passed the parts that are all heartbreaking. Now we are at the park where hypocrisy is at least on the side of justice this time. There's a lot of irony with mob mentality in the selfish nature of humans. Makes me feel really bad for the people who suffer...
I love this series. Hard to believe that it's coming to an end. WangXian has become my weakness. I adore their story in every form I've encountered so far. I have two volumes left, and will be reading them within the week. I will give a bigger review once I am done with the series.
