"Every person you have been deserves a burial and a headstone. / Every person you become deserves a birthday and a name."
Upon reading the synopsis, I knew I would take to this collection immediately. And I was right. Hikari's writing on their selves, the breaking fragments and the coming together again, is beautifully wrought. The way they write through religious trauma, queer identity, and the reclaiming of the self hits close to home. An excellent collection from the first page to the last.
