Not much more I can say about this book that I haven't said in the previous books. I love this series and I love the way this writer tells a story. I'm hooked from the first page until the end of the book. I can't wait to read the next book.
The mystery and complexity of the cases goes from kidnapping/degrading victims - to letting the victims escape - to murdering them at a later time! How many will this serial kidnapper murder? With every kind of lead to sift through- there are no clear answers and time is fast running out before the “Avenger” strikes again.
Secondarily to this tough case, her personal life is spiraling out of control because someone is actively sabotaging her personal life and media presence in a big way threatening the important relationships in her life, and attempting to ruin her career and reputation for good.
Full on - totally invested in this one! Read in one sitting!
This series has potential but always leaves me disappointed. Plots are interesting enough to hold my attention but too over-the-top to be taken seriously. Characters could be developed but are too contrived to be likable or believable. The dialogue lacks wit. The banter between Jessi and Kat is reminiscent of high-school girls rather than strong, intelligent, professional women. By continually reciting her past, Jessi sounds whiny. These writing deficits are exacerbated in the audiobook by a poor narrator who makes Jessi sound childish, petulant, and like a 1980s valley girl. Additionally, incredulously (which is overused by the author) is mispronounced, which is a sloppy work ethic. This is a genre I like, but I am starting to give up hope that quality will improve.
Okay Blake you have officially gone too far. I understand that when you kill off your star two serial killers you need more material to keep the series going but you know what that usually means? The series end. But no, now a murderer goes FREE on a technicality?! ::eye roll:: It's just not believable that a white dude who just got to prison magically befriended the cartel so well that they were willing to help him get out of jail before they helped their own people. And while we're at it, I'm not happy that Ryan wants to move in with Jessie after only a few months of dating immediately after getting divorced. Slow down cowboy - she's an idiot anyway you don't want her.
This series has gotten too ridiculous to even be enjoyable mind candy. The plot contrivances are so painful that sometimes I wonder if characters are supposed to have brain damage. How else can you explain a homeowner somehow FORGETTING the existence of a tunnel out of her burning panic room? Jesse saving them both in that instance nearly rolled my eyes out of my head.
And yeah, convicted murderers don't swan out of prison for prosecutorial misconduct like we're supposed to believe here. Unless the withheld evidence was a video of someone else committing the crime, the existence of a nearly-killed surviving victim who is in law enforcement no less pretty much seals the deal there.
This one didn’t hit for me like some of the others in the series. I enjoyed it as always but compared to the previous books, the crime wasn’t as gripping for me this time. However, I will say that for once I’m glad life is going *some what* Jessie’s way. 2.5 stars
This book was so good! I was on edge through the entire thing and love this series! I feel like it’s an episode of CSI. And I get to keep reading the series! Did not see this one working out the way it did but now….. book 9 will be spicy!
This was an easy and fun weekend listen. I liked the plot of this one more than the last few, and that big twist at the end definitely sets up future plots! 🎧
I couldn't finish the book, I had a hard time focusing on the story and kept nodding off. I know others love the book and series, but it wasn't for me.
Loved as usual. Jessie is an awesome character. I love how pierce writes about her profiling gig and then adds the twists of her complicated past and her personal life. And the endings always leaving is wanting more.
I thought I had it all figured out, TWO TIMES; yet I was still completely wrong 😑. These are the types of books that keep me interested! Twists and turns all throughout! Hunt & Hernandez are goals 😍
The Perfect Alibi, book eight of the Jessie Hunt series.
I have continually praised and recommended this series and I still do. The Jessie Hunt series has me hooked. Though certain aspects of the authors writing style drive me crazy, such as grammatical errors and his need to recap on previous books in the series (which is why I give it 3.5 stars). Regardless I am still invested in the main characters lives, which is continues and progresses with each book. I also find each new case and task at hand thrilling and suspenseful.
I liked this book much better than some of the others because it wasn’t as graphic. Jesse and Hannah are definitely working together, but I have my doubts about Hannah, as others do. I cannot believe her husband is out of prison, and he definitely knows how to get at her. Just wondering where he’s getting all of his information to mess with her social media and her relationship with Hannah.
Jessie Hunt does it again but not without some challenges and of course it wouldn't be a Jessie Hunt mystery without someone trying to get at her from her past. We see everything is going fine her love life with Detective Ryan Hernandez, her family life with her sister Hannah which her and the famous profiler and the one she respects very much Garland Moses. Garland Moses is supposed to analyzing her sister for her because he feels she is either empathetic because of everything that has happened in her life. Hannah, Jessie's sister, was living with her and somehow her social media accounts were hacked 😮 and she was being hated for the awful things that she supposedly put out there making everybody mad at her. Her boyfriend was suspicious of her and her tires were sliced. Then if that wasn't bad enough, the people whose case she was working on were being killed. Then there was her friend Kat was upset 🙄 with her because she asked her to look at the case because of her client who was the first to be killed. To top it off her husband who was in prison because he tried to kill her was getting out on a technicality and she believes he is the one behind all the things happening to her. It's so good to read another one of her stories can't wait for the next.
I honestly have no idea how Jessie Hunt is still a relatively "normal, functioning adult" and able to make AND maintain real and supportive, genuine relationships, after EVERYTHING!
ONCE AGAIN, Blake Pierce continued to add to the drama and stress and chaos in and around Jessie Hunt...
I wouldn't have made it past the middle of the first book if I were Jessie Hunt, ... Just saying...
This book, however, was exceptionally harsh and cruel...
I do appreciate how Jessie and someone close were able to work through their difficulties and move on. However, I was disappointed that Blake didn't make another relationship's reconciliation feel as complete or genuine. Or at lineast how things would have happened in reality.
But of the 8 books I have read thus far in this series, this is my FIRST and only complaint, and it's a minor one.
REVIEW OF AUDIOBOOK; 30 SEPTEMBER 2023 Narrator: Abigail Reno
I agree with all the complaints about this series but I still come back for another installment when the book I was listening to wasn't doing it for me. Most times it's because it was too slow-moving or just plain boring and with the Jessie Hunt series I know it will move on quickly with a nice balance between personal and professional story lines even if every book will contain eye-rolling scenes or too contrived so that Jessie always gets her man as if with the snap of a finger.
So yeah, these books by the mysterious Blake Pierce are junk food for the soul but I want them every now and then and they're a good replacement for the romance novels I used to read in my younger years.
The long-awaited eighth installment was SO worth it! The book starts out so "family", but quickly goes downhill from there for Jessie Hunt. Seemingly, all at the same time, Jessie's Facebook account is hacked, and racist and nasty messages are being posted about her half-sister, her boss, and her work; she's assigned a new serial killer case, and her murdering ex-husband is being released from prison. A serial killer is kidnapping women, holding them for days, and then these women escape only to be hunted down and murdered. It doesn't make any sense--until it does. Jessie questions her sanity, and now her boyfriend does too. Things are going downhill quickly. This installment is intense and fast-paced.
I love this series! This story was nothing short of magnificent. In this installment, Jesse is after a man that kidnaps and tortures women who have “sinned.” And he did this to four women specifically. Great news is they get away, but then they are hunted again for the killing.
Also Jesse begins to experience a personal vendetta against her. Her car tires are slashed, Facebook is hacked with racists comments and someone calls Child Protective Services on her for abusing her underage half sister Hannah...which is not true. But the book followed the same structure as her previous books. But in the end, an old enemy of Jesse’s re-emerges with his sights on destroying Jesse. 4 stars!
YAAASSS!! 👏🏼👏🏼 The last book (#7) of this series, left a bit to be desired compared to the first 6 books. However… this one (#8) made up for it!! 🙌🏼
Wooow I could not put this down! I love the relationships building between Jessie and her people close to her. They all have their own story and drama (sister, boyfriend, & friend) that I appreciate. The suspense in this series is incredible.
Each book is laid out with a different serial killer that Jessie, who is a criminal profiler, must hunt down and capture. The ending of this one has me RUNNING to the next book in the series!!!! If you enjoy psychological thrillers….PLEASE give this series a try!
There's a very sick someone who has kidnapped 4 women and all of them were able to escape. Or did they? Jesse starts to work on the kidnapping and then one of the victims turns up dead. Coincidence or a really sick someone at work. And while Jessie is coping with the case someone is trying to ruin her life by posting awful face book posts and many other things that anyone who really knows Jessie realizes are hacks but not everyone knows Jessie that well and trouble is crashing down on Jessie and her sister.
This series has been available on Hoopla. The characters are reasonably engaging and the story lines are pretty interesting. That said, I'm done with the series as of this 8th one. There was a spot about 20% into the book where the author mixed up the characters and asserted that a dead character was involved in a current conversation. And, she uses the word "incredulously" WAY too much (and the narrator mispronounces it!). So, it was a good run, but the writing in #8 is sub-par.
This book was a real page turner and more fast paced than the last one! I liked the main case involving the abducted women and also was very intrigued with the subplot of someone turning Jessie's world upside down. I continue to enjoy the character growth and relationships evolve as we get further into the series. Good mystery thriller book series!
Great book, loved the fast paced movement of it. I like the fact that she is not afraid to rescue people, but she gets herself into situations in every book. Granted, it makes for more suspense so it adds to the book. Overall great read, picks up right where it left off with the last book and is a great continuation.
I have been so excited to read this book since I finished the last book in the series and this book did not disappoint. I was vibing and was constantly wondering what was going to happen next. I liked the plot of this story and it definitely kept me guessing of what was going to happen next. I can’t wait to see what happens next for Jessie
