In the world will be troubles, but be of good cheer, for the Savior has overcome them all.
After her wedding, Mira realizes she married the wrong man, but no matter what, she intends to keep the vows she made before God until death only parts them. For wrong reasons, the uncle of Tovộhkeso, or Swiftfox, wants him to choose his wife from their tribe. Both maidens were pleasant enough, but he loves neither. By divine appointment—or is it only coincidence?—tragedy crosses the life paths of the Red Hair Vision Woman and the Cheyenne warrior, but are they too different? In their two worlds, can enough common ground be found to live peaceably together? Forever?
Born in California, Caryl McAdoo got to Texas in time to celebrate her first birthday. As a Dallas seventh grader, she remembers a homework essay on ‘What will you be doing in 2000?’ Looking into the future, she saw herself as an inter-galactically famous author, streaking from planet to planet signing books.
She laughs, “But I didn’t start writing again until the late ’80s, then was so blessed to find the DFW Writers’ Workshop in ’93.”
Her first book debuted ’99, then for the next nine years, she averaged a title a year from four traditional presses: two non-fiction, four novels, and three mid-grade chapter books.
In March 2014, her first historical Christian romance VOW UNBROKEN debuted from Howard Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
In April that year, she re-released LADY LUCK'S A LOSER (formerly The Apple Orchard Bed and Breakfast) with a new chapter. In September 2014 HEARTS STOLEN, book two in the Texas Romance Family Saga historical romance series, debuted as her first new Indie, and in November A LITTLE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS, her first Biblical fiction series The Generations launched. So four titles in 2014.
Book three of the historical Family Saga HOPE REBORN debuted in January 2015 to start off a whole new year with eleven new titles planned. THE PREACHER'S FAITH comes in February, Caryl's first contemporary in Red River Romance series. THEN THE DELUGE COMES, volume two of The Generations, follows in March.
Since 2014, she's published over sixty new books, averaging over seven new titles a year through 2020. She completed the 'Texas Romance Family Saga' with a total of ten novels, plus several 'Texas Companion Books'!
Plus, she's eight books into a second series, the 'Cross Timbers Romance Family Saga' and debuts a third New Beginnings saga's book one WAGONS WEST in November 2022, her fifth book for the year.
Also known as Grami, she adores twenty-five grandsugars, and she and O’Pa—her high school sweetheart and husband of fifty+ years write together. She’s dedicated to advancing God’s Kingdom through her novels, praying her story gives God glory!
Caryl loves to share her testimony, pray, and praise and worship Him; He frequently gives her new songs.
She believes all good things are from Him and that her books will minister His love, mercy, and grace to her readers.
Irving, Texas remained her lifelong home until 2008 when she and Ron followed God’s leading to Red River County in the far northeast corner of the Lone Star State. There at The Peaceable, the twenty acres of blessings they call home, the McAdoos raise chickens and goats while waiting for God to open the next door!
Mountain Men – Longing Hearts in the Wilderness is a new multi-author historical series revolving around mountain men and the women who add character to their lives. Each book is designed to read as a stand-alone and can be read in any order.
Mira Ann Churchill, her husband, Howard, and her brother-in-law, Jim, sell everything they have to travel westward. It wasn’t a move she wanted, but she has no say in matters. Howard has a temper, and she doesn’t want to be on the bad end of it. The journey is arduous, and partway through the trip, a large group of the wagon train decides to change from going to California to Oregon—but not Howard. There is no convincing him that it would be safer.
Swiftfox, a Cheyenne warrior and nephew of the Chief, has gone off on a vision quest. He was supposed to be choosing between two maidens of the tribe, but he sees a redheaded woman in his visions—but not her face. He is aware of a Crow hunting party, has seen a small group of wagons, and must be vigilant. When the Crow attacks them, his concern is for the redheaded woman in the group. He takes an arrow to his thigh, but is able to rescue the woman and get them away from the chaos.
“She was worth it.”
The story will have Swiftfox and Mira together. She was rescued by him from the Crow, who attacked and killed the men on the wagon train. Swiftfox is injured, running a fever, and Mira has to make do with what she can to tend to his wound and fever. They spend weeks in an area that she starts calling ‘Bear Valley’. I loved how Swiftfox knew some English, and together, he is teaching Mira the language of his people, and she shared more of hers with him. She takes the time to witness to him about God, His son, Jesus, and how Jesus is the savior of the world. While the story does share God’s simple plan of salvation, it also shares His Word and the love he has for His creation. Swiftfox and Mira fall in love, but she is adamant about him being a Christian too, and God answers that prayer.
Note: the story is listed as 163 pages but ends at page 117, 72% into the total number of pages. It has other books by the author after that.
This book is part of the Mountain Men – Longing Hearts in the Wilderness series. If the other books in the series are as good as this one, then it is a great series. I loved reading about Swiftfox and Mira. They came from two different cultures, but learned from each other. I like how Swiftfox loved hearing stories from the Bible. This was a great story. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review.
This is an interesting story that involves romance, faith, and redemption. Mira is a strong woman who is dealt not the best hand in marriage and does her best with it. There are some twists and turns in the story that kept me reading. This stands alone fine though can read with the series too.
Swiftfox and Mira’s story is so inspiring. Throughout this story there is a higher power at work in their hearts and minds. Great characters with plenty of action, adventure, danger, and so much faith.
This was absolutely a great book and by a great author. I highly recommend this book and author. I can’t wait to read the next book by this wonderful author.
What an interesting story of a young woman married to an evil husband, and the young, Cherokee Indian man who saw her in his visions. She was to be his, no doubt. His people’s visions did not lie. He laid in wait for her. Eventually, he spied her in his looking glass. She is walking beside a covered wagon, looking very tired and weak. He sees how mistreated the young woman is and it’s very upsetting to him. About this time, Swiftfox hears voices-it’s the Sioux Indians and they are about to attack the wagons in her group. One arrow went straight through her husband’s neck and he fell over. Swiftfox had jumped on his faithful horse, of which there was none other as fast, to catch up to them. He races up to the horse that has his red-haired woman across it, getting shot in the leg with an arrow in the attempt. Mira is going in and out of consciousness. He gets rid of the Sioux and jumps on his horse with Mira laying across. They travel to a small live stream that he knows about that is fairly well unknown. She wakes up and their story really begins. She doctors his leg, finds sulphur springs for him to soak in each day, and they learn to communicate very well. His great grandmother was a white woman and he remembered some of the language she spoke. It was harder for Mira to learn Cherokee. Never had she met such a kind, considerate young man. So much better than her husband had been. Now, I can’t tell you any more, so you won’t already know the entire story before you read the book for yourself. I am on the advance team, and this is my honest opinion and review. 📕♥️
