Coming Home: Whispering Springs Book 1

Rate this book
Lucy Ramirez never expected to return to the small town of Whispering Springs, but after a tragic hit-and-run takes her husband and leaves her children without a father, it’s the only place that feels like home. Moving back in with her beloved Gran, Lucy quickly realizes how much she’s missed the warmth of her family. Her brothers' constant teasing and support remind her of a love she thought she’d lost. That was until an unexpected encounter turns everything upside down.

Garrett Williams, the town’s devastatingly handsome sheriff and Lucy’s childhood best friend, has always been trouble with a capital T. The kind of trouble that makes her heart race and memories flood back of a time before grief took over her life. When a near miss with Garrett’s motorcycle forces them back into each other’s orbit, Lucy finds herself questioning everything she thought she knew about love, loss, and second chances.

But life has changed. Now, she’s not just considering her own feelings. She now has three children to think about, and Garrett’s untamed heart might just be too much of a risk. Will Lucy take a leap of faith with the man she once loved, or will the past hold her back from a future filled with the family, love, and happiness she never thought she could have again?

"Coming Home” is a heartwarming tale of love rediscovered, family bonds, and the courage it takes to start over. Perfect for fans of small-town romance with big-hearted heroes and heroines who find healing in the most unexpected places.

Jessica packed this book in a way that’ll make you feel just about every emotion possible.

One thing I loved and respected about this book was how it never rushed the grief process. Whether that was for Lucy or her kids. There’s a lot of topics that are considered sensitive in this story but were handled with such love and care.

There was such a great girls group within this story. Who all band together and support one another. And have some pretty great girls nights (gran included of course!) Just a great sense of family within this story whether it be the girls group or the Roberts siblings who are in their 30s and still fight like children

The childhood friends to lovers was so sweet. And Garrett was a total hunk, who doesn’t love a man in uniform🥵😮‍💨 plus the nicknames he had for the girls, especially Eve with that “my little hurricane”😭

I thought I could make it out of this book without crying but was proved wrong with the last 30 pages, where the tears inevitably won🤷🏻‍♀️

Really enjoyed this book despite the heartbreak. A second chance romance, adorable fun kids, horses, best friends and a new found love, what more could you ask for? I swooned through this book. The banter but the chemistry was *chef’s kiss*. Need to find me a man like Garrett ;)

I loved this book from beginning to end! Such a heartwarming story. A small town romance that follows Lucy on a journey back to her home town whilst dealing with an immeasurable amount of grief following an accident. When she arrived at Whispering Springs she was welcomed home with open arms by her family and her long term friends. Just as Lucy gets settled in along came Garrett, her best friend from a lifetime ago and let me tell you, Garrett, what a guy!! He’s the town sheriff who has the biggest heart. Jessica did an amazing job writing about topics such as grief and dementia, it was never rushed and followed it throughout the book and I feel she absolutely nailed it. This book brings you all the emotions, love, laughter, banter and tears!

This was such a beautiful, heartwarming story. I don’t read a whole lot of romance, but I am a fan of small town and second chance and this was perfectly those.

The characters were so relatable and full of depth. Lane did a fantastic job of showing Lucy and her kids navigating life after the death of a husband/father and adjusting to the possibility of future love. It packed one hell of an emotional punch. The relationship between Lucy and her family and friendship group was a really strong point, especially the banter between her brothers.

This book really had a bit of everything, the emotional hit with the grief offset by the laughter, love, family and just an overriding sense of hope. 5 stars!

My Favorite Quote:

Honestly, I had a couple but I loved this one "This, too, shall pass. Things will get better. Maybe not easier, what with three kids and all, but they will get better." -Gran

My Review:

If you are looking for a book to make you feel all the emotions, this one will be for you. Something I loved about this book is how the author never rushed the grieving process. I loved the second chance romance in a small town. I loved and cried with Lucy's journey over losing her husband. This author even touches on the subject of Alzheimer's. This story just flowed so well with newly single mom and a hot sheriff. I look forward to reading more from this Author in the Future.

I received this book as an ALC and thank you Jessica Lane. I love found family and second chances. Lucy and her kids move back to the town she grew up in after a life changing event. Garrett has loved Lucy for years and takes full advantage of her move back home. They struggle through family health changes and coming face to face with past demons. Lucy and Garrett's love for each other, and his for her kids, helps them heal and build a beautiful life.

This book had me in a chokehold! It was so beautiful. To find love after loss while dealing with life. I loved how everyone came together for Lucy and her girls. And those girls were spitfires 😍. Especially that little Kaley. She reminds me of my 5 year old.

I can’t wait to continue this series and read about the other characters and to hear more about Lucy and Garrett.

So many emotions! I laughed, I cried, I loved this story and can't wait to read more. I loved the characters Jessica created in this story, and the plot was equally fantastic. I read this way too fast because I couldn't put it down. Definitely recommend for those who love a good second chance, friends to lovers romance!

Enjoyed this multi-layered romance which tackled complex issues of grief, parenting, alcoholism, and dementia, while mixing in sweet second chance romance and a smattering of smut. I did get really distracted by the final part of the book in which the brother’s name changed repeatedly from Graham to Grant and back again over and over again, sometimes just a single sentence apart. I’m not sure if I missed something or if that was an editing error, but it really got distracting/confusing.

I truly love this book. It had some many levels that hit on a lot of things. Loss of love, finding love again. It did have one twist that I didn’t see coming and I want to know more about the other characters in the story. I can’t wait to read more!!

Tropes:
🖤 Second Chance
🖤 Small Town Romance
🖤 He Falls First
🖤 Single Mom
🖤 Childhood Friends to Lovers

This book was so heartwrenchingly sweet. These characters have been through the mud but they were able to find peace and healing amongst eachother. So many sensitive topics were packed into this book with such love, care, and patience. Beautifully written, and will make you feel aaalll the feels ❤

⚠️ mild spoilers starting now ⚠️

Poor Lucy, mom of 3, lost her husband about a year before this story begins. This book is about dealing with that grief, returning home to start over, and finding her place in the world after a traumatic, life altering event. With her 3 older brothers, grandmother, and old friends: Lucy was welcomed home to the small town of Whispering Springs with open arms and the most loving support system to help her find her footing in this new reality.

Garret, our hot sheriff MMC, has a traumatic past of his own. With the return of one of his childhood best friends and not-so-secret crush, he finds his own peace and healing with not just Lucy, but her whole family as well.

They both struggle with the morality of their feelings and deal with the events in this book with so much care and maturity. Hard conversations were had on many different fronts and I love the healthy way it was all dealt with. Communication is key, yall!

I loved the way the kids were involved in the story overall, as well as in regard to the decisions made by the mcs. Having difficult conversations with kids is more than hard to navigate but Lucy did such a great job being considerate of her children's feelings and grief. The kids were such troopers.

Unfortunately I had to knock off half a star for grammatical errors, but they didn't take me out of the story as much as usual. It was such an emotional and beautiful story that I understood what the author meant and was still able to fall in love with this close-knit small town. It truly takes a village and Lucy came home to the best kind of love and support.

Huge thanks to the author for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review. I already can't wait to return to this world for the next couple's story ❤

Coming Home is an emotional, heartwarming small-town romance that beautifully explores love after loss, grief, and healing. Jessica Lane crafts a touching story about Lucy Ramirez, a widowed mother of three, and Garrett Williams, the steadfast sheriff who has always loved her from afar.
Let’s talk about Garrett—OMG, this man completely stole my heart! The way he pined for Lucy, always putting her happiness first, made him an absolute dream. He was patient, kind, and did everything right when it came to winning not just Lucy’s heart but also her children’s. His connection with them, especially the sweet and precocious Kayle, melted me.
Lucy was such a strong, admirable heroine. Navigating the heartbreaking loss of her husband while trying to create a stable home for her kids, she never lost herself in the process. I loved that she held onto her emo style and individuality while being an incredible mother. Her journey of self-discovery and learning to open her heart again was so raw and real.
This book put me through all the emotions—laughter, swoons, and yes, plenty of tears. The friendships in this story were just as strong as the romance, with an amazing group of women who lifted each other up (Gran included, of course!). The Roberts siblings’ dynamic added humor and warmth, making Whispering Springs feel like a place you never want to leave.
The slow-burn childhood friends-to-lovers romance was absolutely swoon-worthy. And Garrett? A total hunk in uniform 🥵. His sweet nicknames for Lucy’s daughters, especially Eve as “my little hurricane,” just made my heart ache in the best way.
Jessica Lane handled sensitive topics like grief and dementia with so much care, never rushing the process. The final 30 pages wrecked me in the best way—I thought I’d make it through without crying, but I was so wrong.
If you love small-town romance, childhood friends to lovers, and stories that make you feel every emotion, Coming Home is a must-read. This book is a reminder that love, family, and second chances are always worth the risk. Run, don’t walk, and add this to your TBR! 💕

If you’re looking to fall in love with the town sheriff and a broken down widow, this one is truly for you.

I easily gave this one a 5 star review. Lots of people say I’m too easy giving on those, but let me tell ya something. If a book deserves it, it deserves it. I just so happen to know tons of great authors who I truly enjoy their work! Hehe

Take this book for example. Coming home is a fantastic second chance romance story about a young woman’s whose entire family and life was turned upside down one fatal evening, and she finds herself going to the only place she knows for a change in pace. She goes back home to Whispering Springs. Upon her arrival she is greeted by the towns lovely sheriff, some of her old friends, and family she truly needed during the tragic days of her life. The love interest she goes for makes her whole world spin around on its axis and she finds herself questioning her decisions and if her kids will be okay.

When I say this was a slow burn I mean it. The romance was slow to pick up, but it was definitely there from the beginning. Sometimes all we need is a push in the right direction to get us going. And our Main Characters absolutely got it. The romance was top notch, not too intimate, not too smutty, but the right amount of spice and love. I would give that a maybe 2 on the spice scale. Really wasn’t anything dramatic which can be appreciated after reading primarily dark romance haha.

I truly loved the plot behind this story, and when the person at fault for the main characters tragic story is revealed, I swear I gasped and screamed and cried out loud. In real life. Hard. And ugly hahaha.

I loved this one beginning to end, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart. This made me feel as though every emotion I have gone through in my life was normal, and my own tragedies were validated through our FMC. I really do recommend this book to anyone who needs a good cry, laugh, and just a true love story that will keep you dancing in your boots. I tip my hat to the creator of this beauty, and I look forward to what book two brings us.

Until then. Muah 💋

🌸✨ Book Review: Coming Home by Jessica Lane ✨🌸
Coming Home is my first book by multi-genre author Jessica Lane, and let me just say – I absolutely loved it! This contemporary romance was everything I didn’t know I needed. The perfect amount of spice, without overwhelming graphic detail, made it just the right blend of heartwarming and passionate. 🌿💕
This book is the first in the Whispering Springs series, and I already can’t wait for the second one to hit shelves! Coming Home is the kind of love story that’s so cozy, so bingeable, and beautifully written. Even though grief plays a central role in the story, Jessica Lane manages to uplift us with the gentle message that healing is possible through self-growth. 🌱
Lucy and Garrett are truly the ultimate couple. Their dynamic as parents navigating the ups and downs of life, while balancing the caretaking roles, felt so real and relatable. Parenting is hard, and their journey through it shows that we’re all just doing our best — and that’s something I think we can all relate to. 💕👶
Without giving too much away, I’ll just say that Coming Home is an emotional yet uplifting read that will stay with you long after you turn the last page. The journey of Lucy and Garrett is one you’ll want to fully embrace.
Jessica Lane, you’ve definitely earned a place on my “must-read” list. I’ll be eagerly waiting for book #2 in the Whispering Springs series!

SUCH AN AMAZING AND HEARTWARMING STORY!
5⭐️ 3.5🌶️
Going into this book, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I’ve been hardcore into fantasy and Romantasy lately. I even discovered this author through her fantasy series ((seriously - if fantasy is your thing, check out The Scynthian Chronicles - SO GOOD!). But as I truly love this author, both as a writer and a person, I couldn’t pass up reading this book, even if contemporary romance hasn’t been hitting for me lately. I AM SO GLAD I DID!
This book brought out so many feels! Especially the step-parent themes as I have experienced so much of that myself in my own journey. The characters are well developed and I love the banter and interactions. The themes of grief and moving on were well executed and truly bring the reader closer to the characters. But it wasn’t all negative feelings. There is humor and hope and family - and most important, LOVE. I laughed, I cried, I screamed, I cheered. Such a beautiful story. I am happy this is the beginning of a series because I am truly invested in the lives of ALL of these characters and cannot wait to experience more life in Whispering Springs.

You know the book is going to be an absolute winner, when as soon as I started reading, I literally had to make myself stop. This is only because I had to do a thing called "work". Yet, as soon as my workday was over, I jumped right back into this book and did not stop reading until I finished it.

While I love all of Lucy's children, it is Kaley that I love the most. She has Garrett on her radar, and she won't let him off the hook so easily. The death glares that she gave Garrett at the dinner table had me laughing. Then there is Gran and her "heavy" hand pour with the liquor for Irish coffee.

Love Garrett calling Lucy "Daze". The way that he was respectful to Lucy's deceased husband's memories was nice. It was great to see everyone be so accepting of Lucy and Garrett's relationship. All of Lucy's brothers are a hoot. Reading this book is like receiving a hug from a loved one! I will definitely be checking out more books by Jessica.

4.5 ⭐️ review!

Coming Home is an emotionally rich and heartwarming story about love, loss, and second chances. Jessica Lane does a fantastic job capturing the depth of grief and healing, making Lucy’s journey back to Whispering Springs both touching and relatable. The small-town setting adds charm and authenticity, creating an immersive atmosphere that makes the story even more engaging. The character development is another strong point, as Lucy and Garrett’s evolving relationship feels realistic and well-crafted.

While the story is compelling, there are moments where the pacing feels uneven—some parts move quickly, while others slow down too much. Additionally, there are a few grammar issues that can be distracting at times. Despite these minor drawbacks, Coming Home is a beautifully written novel that fans of small-town romance will appreciate.

This is a sweet small town book with so much heart.

Lucy Ramirez is starting over after losing her husband a year prior. She and her kids are moving back to her hometown and finding a new normal. What she never expects is her childhood friend (her husband's best friend) to be the home she needs.

Garrett's love for Lucy is the worst kept secret in town and I love how he endures lots of teasing about it. The author builds up a sweet romance with a bit of spice and gives us a lovely story.

I love the small town ambiance, the relationship between Lucy and her siblings as well as her kids. The author does a great job of building out a supporting cast and setting up more potential romantic matches and creates just enough anticipation!

One of the easiest five stars I’ve ever given. I loved every single thing about this book! I usually steer clear of books that involve kids because I’m a mama and I read to escape but I am very happy I gave this story a shot. Not only was Lucy so relatable as a person but she was so relatable as a mama. I loved how Lucy felt and said things that I know myself I’ve felt as far as being a mom. I felt so many emotions through this book and cried at times. Even though I cried at times i loved how happy this book made me feel. I also loved Garrett he was so patient with all of them and how he always respected Lucy’s dead husband. It was so sweet. Loved that everyone was so supportive of Lucy and Garrett’s relationship.

This was a new author to me. This is Lucy and Garrett’s story. After losing her husband Lucy and her kids have been struggling. She decides to move back home so she can be with her family and get the support she needs to move forward. When she hits the town she comes across her best friend Garrett. They are pulled back into the friendship that they had growing up. He has been in love with her forever but has pushed that love aside to keep her as a friend. As they spend more and more time together and fall into old ways she starts to fall for him. But it is the right tome for that? She wants to make sure her kids are okay. Is she really ready to move forward and build a future with someone else?

I recommend this book.

This was such a sweet and emotional romance, layered with the themes of love after loss, grief, and healing. This story follows Lucy Ramirez, a recently widowed mother of three kids and Garrett Williams, the town sheriff and close friend of Lucy’s.

OMG, Garrett!! This man absolutely stole my heart. The way he pined for Lucy had me in a puddle. He was such a standup guy who had always just wanted her happiness, even when it wasn’t with him. Garrett did everything right and went above and beyond to stake his place in Lucy’s life and the life of her children.

Lucy was such an admirable character, and my heart went out to her as she struggled with the loss of her husband while trying to give her children a stable new home. I loved her emo style and how she continued to embrace it as a mother. Of her three kids, Kayle stood out to me. She was such a sweet thing and so precocious.

Coming Home made me go through a slew of emotions, and I enjoyed every bit of the story. The banter, the spice, and the tears made for a captivating story that kept me intrigued from beginning to end.

Lucy, had just lost her husband and moves home and back with her Gran with her kids. It's a 2nd chance romance and nicely done. I liked Lucy, her personality, her feelings, her family and Garrett. She has a support system, butt head brothers whom would do anything for each other and it also deals with grief and children and when is it acceptable to date. Garrett is the local sheriff whom was Lucy and David's best friend and had been in love with Lucy for ages. He also has a troubled brother, an aging father and a mother with diamentia. These people made me care about them and I adore that.

This story is so cute and definitely a tear jerker for sure, the family and friends relationships in this book is hilarious with strong bonds that gives off such cozy small town vibes and not to mention a cowboy officer who’s still trying to juggle his life together when he gets news of a sudden plot twist. Enjoyed every moment of this book definitely one to read spice is low but the storyline is a 10🤩
