I love to write, but quitting my day job is not an option. I survive on coffee and too little sleep. This is a habit from my teens when I used to stay up most of the night reading books.

I read an ARC copy to review and reading the other reviews for this book makes me feel like i’m going crazy.

i feel like i read a chatGPT cliff notes version of a real book. all plot points were super abrupt and minimally explored, the fmc was a terribly frustrating stereotype of christian purity culture but with no religious element like she just organically thinks that way (?), and the mmc does not get enough perspective exploration period. the way the perspective flips all over was super random and incoherent. i also just hates how flat every character and characterization was, and even the parts with sex were super flat because of that, so yeah. i read this in one sitting but i can’t even say it’s bc i was hanging onto every word, it’s just that there were so few of them? “ why waste time say lot word when few word do trick?” except the point of a book is to NOT do that i would think.

I have mixed feelings about this story. Had I read it as a teenager I would have loved it.

This novel is a fast, easy read about young love, but it has some issues. The female lead wants to seem smart but keeps changing her mind, making her hard to relate to. Dominic, the male lead, is the typical “bad boy” with a sad past which is supposed to be the justification of his behavior. At the beginning his shallow view of women is off-putting. Despite this, it’s a quick, light read if you’re looking for something simple without too much depth.

This story was a decent read. It was a little different from what I was expecting, but it was still a good book. It started off very slow and at first it didn’t really keep my interest, I felt like it was a lot of repetitive words but halfway through, the story started to pick up. I honestly would’ve liked more character development between Dominic and Kendra. I would’ve preferred to see them fall in love more with each other as well as more intimacy because it just seemed so sudden and rushed at the end, but overall the story was a decent one.

I received an advanced copy for free via book sirens and I am leaving my honest review.

Guilty Pleasure I can honestly say was not the book that I thought it was going to be and I'm glad it wasn't because I enjoyed reading it.

Kendra (FMC) and Dominic have had a love/hate dynamic throughout their school lives. With Kendra hating Dominic's player attitude and sleeping his way through the girls all except Kendra who wasn't going to fall for his charm. What started out as banter when Dominic gets hold of Kendra's diary and all of the secrets develops into a friendship/love. Plenty of laughs, a bit of sadness and two characters I really liked. A good read.

Totally Combustible

It was a love hate relationship that began in high school. Kendra and Dominic had a relationship that could burn you if you were close enough to feel it. In the end and after all the fore play, they finally managed a HEA. Together they are totally combustible!!!

I’m a sucker for a good bully romance so the premise here really drew me in. Kendra was interesting but a bit one-dimensional. She’s stiff and not very personable. Even when we’re supposed to be in her head, you’re never positive what she’s going to do next. She’s very closed-off, even to the audience. Dominic had more depth and was much more likable. There were quite a few times I was sure he could do a whole lot better than Kendra but I ultimately liked them together.

One big drawback is that the third person POV really distracted me. I don’t care for it at all. Only the most gifted writers can pull it off without the story being choppy and vague so most writers should avoid it like the plague, in my opinion. Despite my disappointment in the narrative style, the story held my interest because I cared enough about the characters to want to know how it ends.

I’m going to try some of the author’s other books. This seems to have been her first book so I'm curious to see how the writer may have evolved.

Okay so listen... this book? It ate. I put it off for way too long and now I’m side-eyeing myself because I missed out on all the chaos, steam, and slow-burn glory when I could’ve been unhinged about it sooner. 😭

This read is giving: enemies to lovers, chaotic siblings, academic rivals turned 👀, spicy tension, and one very dramatic diary situation that had me screaming into my pillow. The back-and-forth between the main characters?? Literal foreplay. The vibes? Immaculate. The drama? Top-tier. The romantic tension had me acting like I was watching a telenovela at 3AM with snacks in hand.

The banter is chef’s kiss, the characters are hot messes in the best way, and the growth?? Surprisingly deep under all the flirty one-liners and heated moments 🥵😂 There were scenes that had me cackling one minute and clutching my Kindle the next like, “IS THIS REALLY HAPPENING RIGHT NOW?” (Spoiler: yes, yes it is.)

And can we talk about the ✨glow-up✨ energy?? Careers, second chances, secret feelings, and adult-level tension that feels like your favorite teen drama got a season on HBO 😏

It’s a mix of sweet, spicy, and a lil’ emotional damage—but make it romantic. If you love chaotic chemistry, a strong heroine, and a reformed bad boy who’s a whole walking contradiction... this one’s for you 🫶🏽

This nook starts out slow and was hard for me to get in to.

Kendra is emotionally immature in a way that doesn’t seem to fit with the other characters. The only real description we get of her is that she has brown eyes and brown hair “like her father” while her sister is described as blonde and blue-eyed like their mother. For someone reason that’s never described, Kendra has a sense of inferiority about her looks - we’re never told why.

Dominic is written as a playboy… in high school. It’s mentioned that he has sex for the first time on the first day of his freshman year - with a Senior. It’s hard enough for me to read about sexual interaction between underage characters but now we have statutory 🍇 thrown in like it’s no big deal. I bristle at the implication that it’s totally fine because it happened to a boy and he just felt SO LUCKY to have the attention of an attractive, older woman. It’s gross and I don’t like it.

Anyways, Dominic makes it his mission to get the only girl who’s ever told him no. Kendra gives him (and me) emotional whiplash with how hot/cold/stupid she behaves. (The day they skip school together should be fun but instead it’s riddled with her insecurities.)

I really thought the book would get better but boy, oh boy, it did not. And just when I thought we were turning a corner and that Kendra would start being brave, the book ended.

So, there’s that I guess.

3.5 stars - Nice read about a player finding the one and then letting her go. She’s crushed but moves on. When they enter each other’s lives 10 years later she’s still attracted to him but doesn’t want to risk the heartbreak again. He’s determined to wear her down, catch, and keep the one who got away. Guilty Pleasure has lots of heat, though nothing in great detail, and some heart, too which is always nice.

Starting in the senior year of High School, we meet Kendra and Dominic. He’s the school player and Kendra is the only girl to reject him, which of course means she’s his obsession.
Dominic obtains her diary which details all her fantasies about them together. Using his newfound knowledge he doubles his efforts to win her over.
With flashbacks of the previous years mixed in we learn their entire history. Kendra has crushed on him since first sight but quickly learns his reputation and is determined not to become one of his many. However, once he knows her secrets she has a hard time refusing him, even through her anger.
They finally learn a few things from each other and become a couple but college looms and he breaks her heart at the end of the year instead of trying for a long distance relationship.
Years later they meet again and their passion is just as explosive, neither forgot their High School connection or feelings.
Again there are doubts, anger and her hidden heartbreak to navigate, but he’s determined to not let her go a second time. It takes a long time for them to admit what their feelings really are but they eventually find their way.
Told from a third person POV, the characters are well developed and grow nicely. The story shows their emotions, connection and doubts, as well as their interactions with friends and family.
With school milestones, great friends, romance and steam this was a great read, however I felt the ending was cut a little short and would have loved just a little more closure.

Overall, I’d say it was… just okay. Not terrible, not amazing—just kind of “meh.”

I listened to this book as an audiobook. The narrator was decent, though there were times I found it hard to tell whose point of view I was in. I’m not sure if that was due to the narration style or how the book was written, but it did pull me out of the story a bit. This book is marketed as an enemies-to-lovers story, but it didn’t fully hit the mark for me. The characters may not have started off as besties, but the mutual attraction was there from the start.

That said, the spice level was solid. I’d give it somewhere between a 3 and a 4. It was definitely open-door and descriptive, which I appreciated. If there had been a bit more variety or exploration (maybe a few more kinks), I probably would’ve leaned more toward a 4.

The story does wrap up with a happily ever after, which I liked, but the ending still left me with a few lingering questions. It could’ve used a bit more closure or depth in those final chapters.

All in all, it’s not a bad pick if you’re in the mood for some steam and a relatively easy listen. Just don’t expect a story that will blow you away.

Until my next review, happy reading friends

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW:

Story - ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Spice - 🌶🌶🌶
Narration - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is my first listen from the author and I really enjoyed the story, the characters (mostly), and the writing. It's a pretty quick listen (less than 6 hours) full of emotion, heartbreak, passion, and steamy scenes that will fog up your screen! Dominic holds Kendra's diary hostage while pushing all her s3xual buttons their senior year of high school. Lots of angst, hot/cold feelings plague their enemies-to-lovers relationship. Seven years later, a surprise reunion at her workplace brings all the feels back from the grave. Definitely binge-worthy!

The solo narration from Gideon Frost is absolutely divine! His female character voice is so good...it's hard to believe he is doing it all. Loved, loved, loved his performance. 5/5 stars!

1.5/5 STARS! Ummmmm all of these good reviews are sending me 😩 This audiobook seemed like a fast & fun high school romance, but I found it disturbing and all of the characters were kind of terrible (except for the friend). Imagine a guy with horrible views on women using your personal diary against you, that’s just awful & unforgivable & downright creepy. My biggest issue with this is it’s all lust, no love. Even when they were older, it was lust that brought them together again. I also didn’t like Kendra, she was all over the place. Idk, I kind of hated this….very unlikable characters.

Oh, this was such a fun hot read. You find yourself laughing and falling in love. I could actually see this story as a movie. It would make for a nice RomCom. Kendra and Dominic have a hate-hate relationship, at least so they thought, until Dominic got his hands on Kendra's diary. Silly Veronica playing cupid unknowingly, even though you agree she is clueless, you can't hate her for her part in this love story. Loved this book.

This is Kendra abnd Dominic's story. Dominic is a playboy and Kendra is not going to be one of his playmates. Dominic wants what he can't have. How will he get to Kendra? What will happen if he does? Will he hurt her or love her forever?.

I've read several books written by Suzana Thompson; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

She has written a good stand-alone book. The story is about Kendra & Dominic; after he reads her diary, he refuses to give it back until he fulfills all her dreams.

Really good story! I like the evolution of their relationship and how they find each other. Dominic is so sweet and he is a green flag when I realize he is in love with her!
The only thing I didn’t like is the third person writing. Just because I prefer first person POV.

I enjoyed this book bc it reflex my own young experience. I had a Dominick in my life. Thank goodness it didn't work out.
I was gifted an Audio version of this book from the author. The narrator sounds sexy and really puts it into this story. His female voices are even done fairly well. 5 stars for him.

Like others have stated this is not what I thought it was going to be but I ended up falling in love with the audiobook so hard. I binged listened to it like I needed to be able to breathe. For the characters to go outside of school age and grow up in one book was not expected but I loved how heartbreakingly devastatingly awesome it ended up being. I ended up even wanting more of their story.

Suzana Thompson delivers a steamy, fast-paced romance in Guilty Pleasure. The premise immediately hooks you—what happens when the guy you can’t stand finds out about your secret fantasies… and decides to make them real?

Kendra and the cocky school player are a perfect storm of chemistry, banter, and undeniable tension. Watching their dynamic evolve as she tries to resist his charm (and fails spectacularly) is both entertaining and satisfying. The spice is definitely there, and while it doesn’t overwhelm the story, it adds just the right amount of heat to keep things interesting.

That said, this is definitely a story for readers 18+ due to the adult content. The spice level is moderate but impactful, and I wouldn’t recommend it to younger audiences or those looking for something PG.

Overall, Guilty Pleasure is a breezy, fun romance that’s great for a weekend binge-read. If you’re a fan of enemies-to-lovers with plenty of heat, this one is worth checking out!

The opening pages of this book were intriguing but I didn't feel the same about the remaining pages. They were good enough but I suspect that I didn't enjoy it so much because I don't usually read smut. While I enjoy steamy scenes in books, I also like some depth to the characters and only the MMC gave me that. The FMC was hard to enjoy for me and there were no points at which she felt lovable to me. The way the MMC was written compensated for this though. The writing felt rushed at some time but it wasn't an overall bad book. I received an advance review copy of this book for free and this is a voluntary review.

The book is fast paced and can be read in one sitting so, if you're a fan of steamy romance, you can try this. It wasn't really my cup of tea but I liked the first book of this author and I'm definitely willing to reading more from her.

I am a big fan of enemies-to-lover/bully trope in my romance novels. There is nothing like a mean and arrogant MMC acting like a bumhole to the FMC who can stand up for herself. It's the push and pull between the two that I enjoy, but the relationship between the MCs were really annoying to me. The MMC didn't have much redeeming characteristics and the FMCs was a spineless push over. I almost DNF'd the book when her sister betrayed her and did nothing about it. The entire book was just frustrating for me to read. However, it was well written. I just couldn't get past the unredeemable characteristics of the two MCs.
