After getting his heart shattered by Kima Morgan, the only woman he’d ever truly loved; Dru Brooks was through with love. Instead of wallowing in the pain Kima inflicted when she walked out the door and his life, Dru focused on his job of fighting fires in the day and entertaining a different woman in his bed to nurse his wounds at night. It had taken two long years but he was finally moving in the right direction of getting over her; that was until she returned home and slammed the pain from the past back square in his face.Moving to New York to pursue her dreams and leaving Dru behind in the process was the hardest thing Kima had ever done. And although she had accomplished a great deal, there was still something missing; Dru’s love. So now Kima was home in Baybrook, NC attempting to claim Dru back as her own but his cold demeanor every time he saw her verified, she had a long way to go before she could reclaim his heart. With each passing moment exchanged between them, Kima is trying to prove to Dru that she was here to stay but Dru didn’t care what she said or how much she begged; he didn’t want her back, right?Through the Fire is a standalone romantic tale about second chances with all the ups and downs that a relationship goes through as they fight their way back to each other.
Ms. Crooks, I want to congratulate you on growth. This book is well written and I can tell you have been in the writing lab. I loved the plot and storyline. It was a few things that happened, I definitely wasn't expecting at all but overall it brought together a great story.
Kima and Dru were most certainly made for each other. The chemistry that was built over the years never faltered even when they were miles apart. Kima coming back home after learning from one of the best beautician was her best move. It took time with a lot of crooks and curbs, but they finally made it back into each other arms.
This is a fantastic read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It wasn't short of drama with Nichole being in Dru life. She got on my nerves the more I read. She was too boujee for her own taste. I was sad about the chief and how that fire took place. I did love the family dynamic and how everyone looked out for each other. Dru really was part of the family and he took the weight on his back like a fighting soldier. I am looking forward to more from Ms. Crooks in the near future.
I liked the story a lot. I was slightly annoyed with the heroine always chasing after her ex. He was equally as annoying with trying to keep two ladies. Overall, the story was good.
This was my 1st time reading a book by this author. I did enjoy it. It had strong characters as well as a very good story line. I will continue to follow this writer. This is a good book. Purchase it
Dru and Kimmy this book I really enjoyed it, when your love leaves and then comes back it's hard to trust them that it won't happen again. I hate her dad had to die to realize everything you needed was here. Love it
I fell in love with the characters. I loved the friendships and the family dynamic and I love how hard everyone Lovell. This is a “read again” book for me!
