I love when a book literally has you on the edge of your seat, and I found myself in that physical position while on a plane yesterday. I was upright and slack-jawed by the end.
Now, I feel I pay attention during books, but this one got me- KUDOS to the author!!

Houses Have Secrets is a very creepy little mystery thriller staring Trinity, our FMC, who is returning to "The Eleanor Fielding House" following the untimely death of her adopted sister.

Trinity fled the home years ago with a secret, and this house just might now let her forget it.

Spooky, atmospheric and twisty, this is absolutely worth the read! Thank you to Holly Knightley and BookSirens for the chance to read and review prior to it's publication date on March 15th.

Houses Have Secrets by Holly Knightley follows college bound Trinity Fielding, who has been adopted by the Fielding family after her father is found dead in the infamously haunted Elenore Fielding House. The author uniquely describes the house itself, like a character, "a real-life vampire" (p.47). Sucking the life out of a number of loved ones, Trinity heads back home to investigate. Some houses have secrets, and the Elenore Fielding House has more than its share. This spooky, murder mystery was a fun and entertaining read with some unexpected twists along the way. It creatively raises questions about what makes a house a home, and how does one know where they belong? Is blood really thicker than water? This is the first in the Knight Time Houses series and I look forward to reading more from this new-to-me, author.

Phenomenal! Easily my favorite book I've read so far in 2026! I just saved the other 2 books in the series to read them. Reading this I felt like I could see the house, see all the characters. it felt like I knew them. And the twists and turns, wow! Definitely recommend!

Great book. I had chills down my back . It was steamy thriller of an page turner and the suspense was so intense. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn't even put it down. These characters was literally mind blowing .Danger was around the corner and no one was safe on this street between the haunted house of Elenore Fielding of the death of a love one and madness. Will these characters be able to survived in this creepy house before the night is over.

I thought I would give this author a try and I am glad I did. Her writing is. She knows just how to describe the eeriness of an old house. Her scenes of death are gruesome without being gross. I enjoyed the supernatural part since ghosts are my favorite subject. The family element was also what made this book engrossing. This family demanded that family ‘came’ first and the author showed this several ways. Some family members were even willing to commit murder to protect family. The end of this book was not what I expected nor will anyone else.

Holly Knightley’s Houses Have Secrets is a riveting haunted house thriller that’s as emotionally layered as it is deliciously dark. Equal parts gothic mystery and family drama, this story follows Trinity Dunn Fielding—an adoptive daughter with clairvoyant tendencies and a haunted past—as she returns to her childhood home following the sudden death of her sister.

But the Elenore Fielding House isn’t just any home. It’s a century-old, Brooklyn-based haunted house turned lucrative tourist attraction, run by her ambitious adoptive sister Elenore, and fronted by the enigmatic and ethereal Chamberlin Fielding—Trinity’s beautiful, brooding brother with a cult following and a possible vampire complex (complete with merch).

The cast is quirky, flawed, and emotionally rich:

• Trinity, our unreliable but compelling narrator

• Chamberlin, whose silence screams louder than any ghost

• Elenore, a ruthless matriarch in mourning

• X, the world’s most committed goth groupie

Knightley weaves supernatural tension with deep emotional resonance, tackling themes of grief, identity, and legacy with biting wit and poignant clarity. The humor—often sarcastic, occasionally absurd—balances the book’s heavier undercurrents with ease.

Houses Have Secrets is both a sharp critique of commodified grief and a chilling, character-driven mystery. A must-read for fans of haunted houses, found families, and slow-burning emotional chaos.

Houses Have Secrets by Holly Knightly
Received as an arc.
Trinity Dunn Fielding returns home from London to Brooklyn NY for the sudden death of her younger sister Madeline. She died in the fielding house of the fielding family who adopted them when their father passed. It is a favorite tourist haunted house stop too.
After Maddy’s funeral Trinity befriends friends of her step brother Chamberlin, X(Xavier), and his sister Tilly while doing a ritual on a Ouija board.
Trinity’s seeing the Fielding ghosts because she is adopted
With family curses and secrets against siblings will the Fielding legacy survive?

First off, I absolutely LOVE haunted house stories. And this book did not disappoint. We start off with Trinity going home for the first time in years, to attend her little sister’s funeral, which automatically gives the story a feeling of loss that permeates through the entire thing. There ended up not being as much haunting happening as I’d hoped, though.

Trinity is a likeable character, but she starts off as kind of dull and blind to the suffering of her family, though I did grow to care for her by the end of the book.

Houses Have Secrets was very well written and I was extremely immersed into the story, eagerly anticipating what was going to happen next. There were numerous twists and turns and at the climax of the story, I was barely hanging onto my seat.

I received an ARC for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Houses Have secrets by Holly Knightley is yet another enthralling thriller in her repertoire. Trinity, the FMC, is an adopted member of the Fielding family. When she goes back home, all the secrets that had long been buried start to come out of the woodwork, leaving her with more questions than answers in some regards. While the plot was unique and enjoyable for the most part, there was quite a bit of repetition in some areas that made the story drag on for longer than necessary. I feel as if a little time-hopping would have helped to understand the background of the family that had lived before her time, and it certainly would have added that extra layer of believability for the reader to what amounted to quite a bit of speculation amongst the family members.

The ending was too convenient of a wrap-up, especially considering that there was no history of a certain character's ability to do anything beyond the norm. Overall, it was a good read, and I appreciate the author and book sirens for providing the ARC.

Trinity was adopted by the Fielding’s after her father’s death. Growing up in the Eleanor Fielding house, full of death and secrets would make it easy for Trinity to leave… and coming home, a big mistake! She returns for her sisters funeral and learns the secrets of the Eleanor Fielding House (a house of horrors turned tourist trap!).

Can secrets kill? In this house, they certainly have! I was absolutely on board for this haunted house story but it took me forever to get into. The house has quite the history and this read took quite the psychological turn in the end so I’m glad I stuck with it.

The family ties are strong, the house has a chilling grip and there’s definitely some thrills throughout. This is book 1, a stand alone, in the Knight Time Houses series.

And of course Holly Knightley does again with this one. This spooky had so many twists and turns that I had a hard time putting it down.

The death of Trinity’s sister has made her feel uneasy coming home to the infamous Fielding House. Is she ready to face what the house has waiting for her?

Can she escape the house? Make sure you grab this one. It’s such a great read. I received this book as an ARC from Book Sirens. I look forward to more of the author’s books.

This book was extremely enjoyable to read. It really captured the haunted house feel. I found myself wanting to go and read this book even when I was busy. The book was captivating and well written. I loved/HATED the ending. Loved the twist, hated that two people did not end up together. I am going to go read the rest of the authors books now, and hope they are just as good!

What a creepy story, full of twists I did not see coming!

This is one of those stories that you won’t be able to forget and that will stay with you for a long, long, long time. It’s scary and creepy and so full of unexpected twists that I did not see coming, especially the ending. Holly Knightley definitely has a talent in writing horror stories. The unexpected endings always remind of me Stephen King and his books.

Most Satisfying

If you are a fan of horror and mystery, this offering by Holly Knightley will not disappoint as it has both. I particularly enjoyed the old Buffalo, NY brownstone setting and the strangely loving family that lives there. Each quirky character helps lead a story that has more twists and turns than a Roll Gold factory, but the ending leaves no questions unanswered. You'll be happy you read it!

I'll be honest.

This book took a bit to get through. The first half of the book was a lot slower than what i was used to, and I've read most of Hollys books. Im always so used to Holly just 'punching' me straight in the face with the fast-paced storyline.

The second half is where it picks up, and when it does, it moves at break neck pace, and you're hooked once Trinity finds out the twisted history of the Elenore Fielding House.

We have mysterious deaths, and long buried conspiracies, keeping me on the edge of my seat as I was so invested in trinitys story - her struggles, her fears, and her past and how it weighed so much on her.

I was so immersed in Holly's narrative that every description of the house made it feel like a character in itself.

If you love a slow burn thriller with a haunting setting and family drama, Houses Have Secrets is a must-read. Holly continues to prove why she’s one of my favourite authors!

Thank you for the ARC Holly! It was a fun read!

I am a big fan of thrillers and paranormal stories and this one doesn’t disappoint. The characters are interesting, as is the mystery surrounding the house and the family that lives within in.

This book reads like a YA book, I’m not sure if it is meant to be one, but this is definitely a book I would have read in my teenage years. It has a touch of romance, intrigue and paranormal activity. It is written in a way that helps you really picture each scene in your mind, adding a little bit of spooky to the ambience.

This is the first time I’ve read this author and I would definitely recommend!
