My name is Bevin Millen and I’m doing my best to survive the waters I’m swimming… Being CEO of a successful magical company hidden from the rest of the world. A college student who has never had a conventional education before or friends and has had to hide her magic from her psychotic family. A woman born of a sexist society and a top-tier family that wants me back and thinks they own me like property. So it’s a lot. Like… A LOT. And that’s before I even add on the fact that I’m a witch who was blessed by a goddess, and apparently she’s expecting a lot from me because of the “gift” she gave me. More like a target. Possible madness and death. A whole ton of crazy. That’s for sure. More than I can bear most days. I really need to get a grip on my situation and get my head above water or someone will get killed. I think I have a plan and the right help to back me, but—it’s all a risk, and I have to get stronger fast. Learn more than I know to get there. Good thing I’m at one of the best colleges in our world, right?
Morrigan University is a spicy reverse harem, university-age paranormal academy series with darker elements, strong language, violence, and a heroine who always does her best no matter what’s thrown at her… While trying to figure out what and who her heart wants.
*This book is part of a series and cannot be read as a standalone. Like all my books, this is not light and fluffy and includes dark themes and events some may find triggering. Reader discretion is advised.
Erin is a born Chicagoan who decided to state hop a bit, given she works from home. She currently resides in Georgia with her pup, Lord Vader Flynn. With an eclectic and addictive personality, there isn’t much that doesn’t interest her or she won’t pour herself into if it catches her fancy. She has always been interested in the darker aspects of life and mythologies—especially vampires, shifters, the occult, and anything paranormal.
To date, she has published more paranormal books than she can keep up with the characters for, in different genres with dedicated readers who await each release to her numerous series under any of the three Flynn names she writes.
So there’s a lot I liked in the story progression. I’m glad her and Wyatt finally have a real conversation and she starts standing up for herself more. I’m also happy to see the guys show more interest in her and not just sex though I will say I agree with another review about how strange it was for her to get so upset about someone suggesting therapy. Maybe it’s just going to be a part of her characters growth that we haven’t seen yet but she gets triggered easily over things that don’t make sense and then becomes very hard assed about it. She’s becoming a bit unlikable and stubborn in her viewpoints. She’s just not very emotionally mature which can get annoying but also kind of fits the character. I hope she gets to grow and can find a healthy way to have relationships. Right now it’s all very toxic and unhealthy kind of all around, but that could be part of the story. The main reason why I gave 3 instead of 4 stars is a lot of this book is kind of like reading someone’s business plan. I love her business and it’s definitely part of the story but most of the book was about what was happening in the business and very little of it was actually stuff moving the story forward in comparison. The length of all the scenes dealing with the business could have been drastically reduced and more given to character/story and relationship development and it would have been more fulfilling. I love everything with the animals but I don’t need pages of discussing blankets or brushes or who’s going to do what etc. Honestly I just kinda zoned out or skipped forward because it was overdone and unnecessary for the story. That being said I’ll mostly likely read the next one to see where it goes, that’ll probably be make it or break it for me as to whether I continue the rest of the series.
Oh no. This series is starting to head off to a mopey, whiney, emotionally draining h. There is a fine line getting support from your friends, family, lovers etc and emotionally burdening/overwhelming/draining them.
Just like in the Artemis series where Tamsin spent so many books just as a hot mess, whining, moaning, complaining, ranting about big and little things. This book is doing the same thing. The thing that really aggravates me is that in both series there is some stupid fucking reason why the h can’t see a therapist. And yet the h encourages everyone else to see/talk to a therapist. Go to a fucking mental health professional and work on yourself. There is only so much one should expect from their loved ones. This series and really all the series from this author crosses that line.
Every single series this author writes is really the same thing. The h has a traumatic upbringing. Is the leader, ceo, queen, big boss of a group of people. The h is hyper focused on correcting, saving something. Is now super wealthy and super powerful. AND SPENDS MOST OF THE SERIES COMPLAINING AND RANTING WHILE ALSO BEING A HOT MESS.
Some of the things that trigger the h are so subtle and so implied I would never have even had a clue or picked up on some slight, or meaning from whatever happened.
I don’t get how the h in this series is so rich from the company she started. I mean how many things is the company selling if everything needs her to make some part of it and add her magic to it. Especially when she was locked away. Out of all the series this is the most unrealistic backstory. I think this backstory is a direct result in the authors love of dogs but unfortunately it doesn’t really work or hold up.
I had to power through this book and frankly this series. I liked the first book, highly interested and marked it full stars. Second book much more problematic but got through. Third book well I barely got through and will be stopping the series here. Reasons I am done are mainly two fold. One the setting. (I might be warped a touch because I love Erin Flynn’s books and just finished the final Artemis book then went on to reread Mabel while I waited for a new book.) I struggled to decipher if I was reading a modern setting or Victorian era setting. This was cranked up further with the intense misogyny and complete male domination of the world. Yes, I get that’s a huge part of the friction of this series but it’s so bad that I can’t see this existing alongside the human world and active social media. It also doesn’t help that modern things like clothing aren’t often described to offset the olden days feel. It was so far over the top I found it frustrating and distracting. The largest reason I will not be returning is the maturity of the main character. Bevin, our main character is a? child? Adult? She is supposed to be an eighteen-year-old adult that has been abusively sheltered her whole life. She cries constantly. Literally this girl is soggy. She is called a child by her own partners occasionally. Others call her a child. She even calls herself a child and says things like ‘let the adults deal with that’. Then I am supposed to believe that she is the owner and creator of a huge company that is one of the biggest in this world. Plan and enact a complicated plan against her father and other top tier families successfully. She’s able to attend and do well in college. While having a bevy of men including spicy contact with several. (yes, she says this overwhelms her cue the crying. Again.) The long blown out scene of group conversation about various relationship issues was too much. Way too many people there. The conversation was too mature for Bevin. It came off as very Dr Phil. Then it hit me this group has only been together about two months. Some of the people there are probably going to be part of the harem in the future but they aren’t right now. If things are that bad two months in girl, red flag run. Which is it? A child who needs time to emotionally mature in the new world of freedom she finds herself in. Or a woman capable of being the middle of a large poly relationship? What I read was a child with a harem and that was- off putting.
I flew through the first 2 books in this series. I loved the idea of a badass fmc who, despite her awful family, was not only powerful but had also created a successful business even while under the abusive thumb of her family.
This book was just different. First, we get it, their society is sexist. The reader is able to understand that without a character saying how sexist everything is CONSTANTLY.
Then there is the problems of her not so evolving relationships. In the first 2 books I liked how things were starting, meeting guys who obviously had different backgrounds (though they have really not been fleshed out), and we're supportive of Bevin and ready to protect her, which she very obviously needs. But this book she just treats most of them like crap. Who is she gonna end up with? We don't know. She is supposed to have 5 points to the star, but last I counted there may be 6 contenders? She throws tantrums rather than having a conversation with these people, and acts like she should be the center of their universe when they have their own damn lives going on as well.
I'm always confused as to which characters know her secret, she's constantly trying to expand her business without even hashing out the last idea she's thrown at poor Tracey. Wyatt is just her perpetual punching bag, aat one point she basically says that she doesn't like this whole laundry list of stuff going as far as saying that she doesn't feel like she can even tell him no when it comes to him kissing . . .COMMUNICATE WITH HIM. Stop telling everyone BUT Wyatt the problems you are having with him and actually give him the opportunity to work on the relationship. I always feel like I've missed something or that I'm crazy because she treats Wyatt like shit and complains about how he treats her A LOT, and I just don't see what she complaining about.
Oh and don't piss her off or she'll threaten to take away your Saturday night sleepovers because you had the gaul to try and take something off her plate.
And I'm tired of the "leave it up to the adults". You are a whole 18 year old. Yes, she's been sheltered, hidden away from the world, don't know how some things work. But it's weird how much Bevin wants to her feelings and ideas respected, wants to make all these big business decisions that she then piles onto Tracey (who we found out is only 30 in this book 🙄), but then a minute later says the adults can handle that part. Put on your big girl pants, make the effort to learn how the world works, and for the love of the gods stop crying and work your shit out.
This book had way too many details about all these new facets of her business. The characters need more backstory rather than alluding to tiny nuggets of information. The relationships need a ton of attention. What Bevin truly is needs to be explained, discussed, made more of a plot point than something that pops up randomly between business expansion discussions.
I'll read the next book, most likely, because I do hope the story turns itself around, but it is becoming increasingly difficult.
I love reading Erin’s books. That being said, this story reads a lot like a combination of Artemis and the Mabel trilogy. Our FMC has gone through a lot of trauma and of course that has left its mark. The leading males have ALSO been through their own traumas. It’s a field of land mines that keep being tripped all over through out the books. Therapy gets brought up at one point and one of the leads says that she needs help that he just know how to give and suddenly Bevlin doesn’t feel safe with him? There’s obviously more to it but without giving spoilers there’s just a lot about her that I just find somewhat annoying. I’ll continue reading because I’m hoping it gets better but I’m just undecided if I’ll finish the series if it’s going to continue like this for several books.
So this did end up being as ridiculous as predicted. The FMC spends most of her time complaining about everything, and I do mean everything. Far too much of this book was dedicated to business planning, and it did not advance the plot. I have no idea who the harem is, and by book 3, that should be obvious. Why is the adult CEO always referring to herself as a child and saying the "adults", the ones who are not her, need to deal with stuff? It's really weird. An editor is badly needed for this whole series. This really has that Wattpad feel to it.
I liked the idea behind these books, but it needs a rethink. Its not a fun read. It doesn’t make you love the characters, it’s messy and needs a redo.
I would give this book no stars if I could. I had to give up 30% in because I honestly could not tolerate it any more. I honestly don’t know why I kept reading half way through the second if I’m honest. I hoped maybe it would still get better. It didn’t.
One of the most irritating things about all three books, is the constant mention of sexism. You can build a sexist world, without needing to say sexism 100 times. If anyone did anything or said anything, it was sexist. The main arguments with ‘bad’ people were all just sexist. Then If anyone said anything she disagreed with, it was sexism. If no one took her seriously is was sexism. If they didn’t like her, it was sexist. If anyone tried to suggest something, it was sexism. That storyline got old really quick and became so unimaginative.
The character and relationship development is so poor. Characters are thrown at the reader without really creating a bond or developing the relationship at all. The boys all blurr as they don’t really have any personality’s. Apparently it’s love at first sight so it’s not necessary. There is no chemistry at all, we are just told over and over again they are wanting her because she is incredible and amazing. It feels lazy writing.
The main character is really unlikable. She is just irritating. There was a point where she was asking a character why he liked her and honestly, what could he say back to that? Why does anyone like her? She does nothing to install this. She doesn’t have a personality. She makes animal treats. But she is so dull as a person and also very judgemental.
Storyline - What story line? It’s a bit of a mess.
The first book in this series was interesting, and original, with great character interactions, and moved along quickly. The second slowed down a bit, and started to get bogged down with some unnecessary details. But this book really falls off.. It literally goes from one complaint to another. I don't understand why the author focused so much on the absolute sexism, and lack of woman's rights in this world. We got that from the first 2 books, relentlessly! But it seems to be the most important theme of this series. Now we've moved on to FMC complaining about her love interests, and even their animal Familiars. Bevan has turned into a relentless Karen, and is so unlikable, I'm hoping all the men in this wake up and leave her before it's too late!!
I feel like this is going to be slightly unfair for this book since this is a general review for the series up until this point.
There are a some things about this series thus far that is nagging at me. At points in this book it feels like it’s hard to follow what’s going on. One second we are in the middle of something serious then in the next paragraph we are later in the day dealing with something else. Your only distinction of time is a paragraph and not a divider or something to distinguish that something new is happening and that you’re onto something else.
There were times in conversations when things were tough to follow because Bev doesn’t have a lot of internal thoughts to help the reader figure out what’s going on. So many times she just burst into tears randomly, shoved someone away, throwing up or acted out. I know that she was sheltered, but a lot of the times I didn’t understand why she was being so chaotic or having such a visceral reaction to something. It honestly is disservice to her character.
Additionally, for someone who is strong enough to stand up to her abusive and controlling family and consistently puts others in their place, it’s confusing as to why now in book three she’s having an adverse reaction to speaking out. It wasn’t her internal thoughts or something that explained it either. You threw in from Tracy, “oh I knew that would happen!” Sort of a comment then someone explained.
The last thing that sort of irked me about this series is that in book one and two she doesn’t want people to know about her trauma. But she’s constantly trauma dumping on EVERYONE. It’s repeated so frequently that I started to skim those moments as it didn’t really add to the story. Plus the guys she is seeing/not seeing always acted like they never heard her trauma every time it was brought up. Even though she brings it up once every other chapter.
This isn’t me being insensitive to trauma, and I understand it presents itself differently with each victim. But it was a lot of the same thing that didn’t really compound to anything further.
Aside from this, I continue to read this series because I love the idea behind it. Although not really explained too much or in depth, I think it’s cool that she’s classified as a Goddess witch and I just wish you’d elaborate more on it.
I've been looking forward to this book being released and it did not disappoint.
It's exciting and engaging and makes you wish the next book was already out.
I do have some small peeves (Sorry Erin) I know Bev has had a really crappy life and she is only just getting her feet wet but in a big way. However, I really sometimes do not like how she treats the guys. She will fly off the handle so quickly and yes she is so young and has no real experience with others but sometimes I feel it's still a bit much. I sometimes find it a little uncomfortable how she talks to people or pushes them off her when they try to comfort her.
She is meant to be a Goddess Witch but still by the end of book 3 we don't really have a feel of her true power and she is meant to create this star of her men (5) but nobody is getting together. I know she is new to this but I just hope that it's not all rushed and mashed up together in the last part of the story.
I don't feel like we are getting a look into them starting to fall in love or all coming together as a unit??
Maybe this is all part of the point to what Erin is going for though? Because Bev is going to need power when they come for her and I don't think she will get all her blessings till they form their unit (Star).
I'm feeling so sorry for all the guys and Derek is making my heart hurt because she doesn't seem to give him a blooming chance. Yes he was a bit much at first but they are both a bit broken.
I keep wondering though because it's said she will have 5 men but I'm hoping their will be a 6th guy (Link) as he seems to really be there for her and seems to be a great match. Maybe that's why all the past God/Goddess witches faded out because they were not totally complete 🤔
Anyway it's a really great and refreshing take on a collegs/supernatural romance series that I'm thankful I found. I love all the animals ❤️ ♥️ and just hope Erin won't put us through losing any of them. I hope we don't have to wait too long and then things start to become more loving for the next book.
Okay so I’ve just finished reading the books so far, and the first book was a little bit slow not to much of a story but the next two have amped up and well this books cliffhanger I can’t wait for the next book is all I can say it’s actually getting very interesting.
My only issue is the drama happening between the mc and the guys, there’s always something going on, and it’s like your not sure on how she’s feeling about them, and her constant outbursts most are justifiable and reasonable but some of them aren’t and I understand that her horrible upbringing has affected her social interactions she’s comes off as awkward or tense even though she wasn’t socialised this could have been an element when things are explained to her, She has issues with people and explains her reasoning eventually! However she isn’t always willing to listen and understand the other’s perspectives. Almost just writing them off, or making decisions for them without explaining her reasoning properly, I do find she is a strong character though just feel she should talk to someone about her personal life who isn’t one of her guys, she’s only just making friends with fellow witches in the school so I’m hoping this is something that will eventually happen.
Im hoping the next book will help on the communication and understanding a bit more of the backgrounds of the guys because it’s kind of being hinted at but Its barely mentioned her asking them questions, it’s also hard to keep up sometimes cause characters aren’t mentioned for ages sometimes.
I love the familiars and find this entertaining, but its seems she holds a grudge especially on Quinn and I don’t even think it’s for much of his behaviour it’s like where’s his second chance she hasn’t seen him since she told him of. And not meeting Nigel’s familiar either.
Bring on book four I’m looking forward to see what is done with it and hoping that it’s better than the previous books!
Alright, I’m struggling with this one. The world and overarching plot had so much potential, but this book? It felt pointless. I kept waiting for something—anything—to happen, but by the end, I was just sitting there like, “Wait… that was it?”
What I Loved About This Book: • The universe itself is still intriguing. The setting and concept keep me hooked, even when the execution stumbles. • The idea of a powerful but naive FMC balancing a business, relationships, and supernatural elements could have been amazing… if only it had been done differently.
What Didn’t Work For Me: • The FMC’s inconsistency: One moment, she’s a badass running a multi-million dollar company. The next, she’s falling apart over the suggestion of therapy? It just didn’t make sense. Her maturity levels were all over the place. I get her character is meant to grow but I just honestly was confused by some of her thoughts. • The hypocrisy: She demands to be heard but won’t extend the same courtesy to the men in her life. How is that fair? Relationships need balance, and this one felt very one-sided. • Wyatt… just, do I need to say more? His whole storyline threw me completely. • Nothing. Happened. The plot felt stagnant. No real development, no major twists—just a lot of existing. I mean every conflict she had since book she had the same arguments and the same heavily emphasised discrepancy between men and women or rich and poor and that’s it.
The Tropes: • Reverse Harem • Found Family • Supernatural University • Powerful FMC (or at least, she should be)
I wanted to love this book, I really did. But between the FMC’s contradictions, the lack of plot movement, and the frustrating double standards, it just left me feeling lost. I’m hoping the next book picks up the pace because this one felt like filler. Also I didn’t realise this wasn’t the last book so I was super confused when I realised that was the end.
Disclaimer: I’m going to review it without spoilers at the top, then create a line and anything below that line will be spoilers. Do with that what you will.
Ya’ll I can’t with this book in the series. The longer this series goes on, the more problematic Bevin gets and I just wanna throw a fit about it. I’m only giving this book the addition 0.5 ⭐️ because there’s a serval familiar named Cheese in it and that’s just hilarious and adorable all wrapped up in one.
What I liked: - Cheese the Serval - The ending was very unexpected.
What I didn’t like: - Bevin being a toxic ass bitch and throwing tantrums in the name of “sexism”. There’s sexism and then there’s just you being a brat and not getting your way and arguing with anyone who doesn’t say the same thing you do. - Kelton deserves better and I wish the plot developed and he just left her ass. - Beginning of the book was so disruptive because it just plops you into a scene with ZERO context. How did we get to this moment babes? - The poor and confusing sentence structure just really sets me off. You have a good premise and then piss it down your leg with distracting errors and sentence structure that takes away from so much. - Let us EXPERIENCE the events vs just telling us stuff that happened.
SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT —————————————————
What I liked: - Taylor and Cheese’s storyline is just so sad and I literally teared up a couple times because of them. - I don’t know who she’s going to end up with. The involvement of Link is really starting to confuse me. - Jean being a badass bitch at the end of the book and rocking her dad’s shit. Love this for her 👏🏼 Be more powerful naturally than your POS daddy!
Favorite quotes: - “Because he’s a curious and handsome boy,” I cooed at the fox. “You’re thrilled your warlock loves you so much to wait for you. He’s doing this just for one treat because you are that important to him.” “Really?” the fox gasped. “Really? He’s been so busy with school, but he still really loves me like that? I love him. We barely get a chance to play and—can we play more? I want snuggles and pets.” // actually made me tear up - “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, Momma,” I repeated when she started rattling off in Russian that she would beat me dead and then revive me to beat me some more. I shot Nigel a shit look, but he simply smirked… Making it clear he’d done it on purpose so my mother would get me. // I honestly love Nigel. Him and Kelton should be the only men in this book tbh. - I didn’t want to kill myself, but I didn’t want to fight anymore to survive. Was there really a difference? // this did leave chills
What I didn’t like: - This book started off in an unexpected place. But in a disruptive way. She’s just suddenly talking to a top-tier family guy about how those very families are trying to usurp and get on the high council? How does she even fucking know this guy? How’d he get a meeting with him? THERES SO MUCH MISSING - I CANNOT with this girl. She just screams sexism if someone doesn’t agree to her. Kelton is legit the sweetest guy and CONSTANTLY gets reamed. Yes, he blurted out that she might need to speak to someone and she flies off the handle and makes him into a monster. Like girl, get your shit together. She’s becoming more problematic as time goes on.
Bevin is navigating treacherous waters. She’s still acclimating to college life and being free from her sadistic family.
**THOUGHTS/OPINIONS**
Let me start by saying I’ve always loved the START of Flynn’s series. But she has a very bad habit of using the same plot device…she immerses you in a MMC or two and then she totally DUMPS them. Yup. I get it, her RH usually include LARGE harems. I suppose she thinks weeding some men out of the harem makes sense. Unfortunately she does it at the expense of the plot and further character development. Meaning, frankly, the FMC usually dumps the male over a ridiculous misunderstanding or lack of proper communication. In some of her other series it wasn’t such a huge deal because the harems were huge, but in this series it’s a big problem because 1. Derek Wyatt is frankly the best MMC. Sorry, not sorry. 2. Bevin dumps him over ridiculous reasons. 3. The other males aren’t “strong” enough or honestly interesting enough to make up for losing Derek. And the biggest one 4. He was given so much time and POV in the beginning only to cut him off entirely. Bringing him back later in a platonic manner was stupid, and unsatisfying. I read the entire series (up to where it stopped) hoping that Flynn would get her act together and put Derek back into the picture in a romantic sense, but no. She chose Winter…Winter who is as dull as dishwater. The whole, he listens to me, and cuddles me and takes me on picnics…is…well silly. Derek is the cream of the crop of potential harem members. And now that I’ve read to book five, and he’s been put in a platonic “friend zone,” I’m out. I’m done wasting my time reading a series where another great MMC gets forced to the side. The same happened in the Artemis series, which I had to drop for similar reasons. When you don’t respect the members in the FMC harem the RH becomes unbearable!
I really enjoy Bevin’s story, but I really need the author to give us some more insight into the why’s of things. Like why did Bevin get so upset with Wyatt, even though he talked over her and did things I didn’t really get her true upset. When Kelton suggested therapy to her, I didn’t understand why she was so upset. She’s been keeping this all bottled up and on her own and I know she doesn’t know how to do some of the socializing but I felt like it was a gross overreaction. It wasn’t until one of the other men explained that a therapist could be bought and that the vetting of a therapist would be difficult as one of the issues made sense. I need more explanation into Bevin from Bevin though. I need her to articulate to the reader some of the inferences and thoughts she’s making rather than have them off page as I don’t always understand because imo it’s not well explained.
Her father’s craziness is crazy. He’s going over the top and we are finally seeing more of the sexism that Bevin has talked about but I didn’t see much of at the beginning, now.
I didn’t like the last scene though because I don’t think their Grandmother should get off the way she is because she sacrificed her own brothers. Didn’t she gain power? If so why isn’t she crazy if that’s the cause of what is happening with Charles?
I was a little worried about this book from the blurb. It's very heavy content and pretty dark themes. Bevin is a fantastic character, she's strong but innocent and so empathetic. I hated that for her story arc and growth she's constantly being exposed and overwhelmed with the 'evil intentions of other's.' As well as the expectation of an entire society, gender and several generations. Not to mention the as yet unearthed mystery of the goddesses blessings. If that were me I'd have locked myself in a dark room with a squishmallow. I'm intrigued by the size of the 'harem' could we book looking at a possible shake up of the members and maybe some extras? I did really like that Bevin is recognising that she's being bulldozed by the people surrounding her and she's learning to put up barriers and make her needs known. I loved the sneaky cameo of the AU books. And they cliffhanger? I never would have guessed at that ending and also is there something about the women of Bevin's family? I really enjoyed this book and read it in a couple of hours.
I really liked this series to begin with, but am quickly getting bored. Most of the side characters aren’t really fleshed out and seem to exist purely to jump to the female protagonist’s aid. Also, try to count how many times the word ‘sexist’ is used. It’s boring. Not because of the feminist agenda, but because the author lacks wit and subtlety . Erin R Flynn needs to learn to say something without SAYING it. Subtext is the best bit. I found the main character unlikeable and self centred, but can appreciate she’s supposed to be an overwhelmed teenager with limited social skills. I did however really like the idea of the story and the plot. It’s interesting and it’s fantastic that the main character is so forward thinking and has her fingers in many pies. In summary, this book made me feel frustrated and uncomfortable. Not sure if that was intentional by the author or not. In two minds if I will bother reading the next one.
Wtf did I just read. Is this a romance book or a how to guide on how to run a fictional, magical business. She barely knows any of these men she fooled around with them the day she met them... then nothing there is no development to their relationship. Literally anything they do or say just cause her to throw a long winded, self-righteous, temper tantrum. She can get pissed at the drop of the hat, over NOTHING. Like the keldon guy, she has that date then for a book and half barely speaks to him again. I think she talks more and has a more established relationship with his mom. You are not really rooting for anyone in this book. The men have no real personalities besides apologizing. The main character is absolutely insufferable, everyone else is pure evil with no interesting dimensions to their character. I absolutely will not be wasting another second on this series.
More to come. Book 3 is more of the same. Bevin does incredible things with her special magic, improving familiars and basically saving various people along the way. She spends a lot of the book crying or puking from stress. Her abhorrent inability to carry on a healthy relationship continues. This time she manages to tear into a different suitor for no real reason, and destroys her uneasy relationship with her professor. Her father just gets worse, but there is a fluttering of support from new allies in her fight against corruption. This is generally a guide for how not to have a reverse harem. Lots of run on sentences, that would benefit from editing or at least a few commas, requiring re reading paragraphs.
3.5* I agree with a few of the other reviews here concerning mixed feelings. I’m not loving the character development… Link is still one of the only characters I enjoy, though I kinda like Winter too. I don’t mind the business development, as I’m used to that from her other series. I actually would prefer to see more of the spa and such, than such a huge focus on everything “evil”. I did like the “twist” at the end. I truly hate to say this because I’ve really enjoyed most of Erin’s series, but I’m getting a bit tired of basically the same plot basics and character types, but just different settings and characters. It’s why I prefer the Seraphine Thomas series, because while that’s definitely a good part of it, it just feels different.
I want to say yay, Jean!!! I am glad to see that not all the Shaw woman are complete trash.
Whilst I am enjoying Bevin and her personal growth as small as that is. I still can't help but draw similarities with Artemis. I mean, the whole douche coach and having a female aid brought in to deal with his obvious sexism is 100% Artemis. Even to the point of a subtle reference to the series.
After the whole hot and heavy way, the male leads introduced themselves in book 1. The relationships barely feel lukewarm, and I think Bevin would absolutely be better of not seeing any of them as more than friends. There is just no chemistry at all, and whilst the Snow white character she has going on is adorable (more for the animals), she needs herself an Izzy and quick.
Firstly a few errors - misspelled words, punctuation etc. The usual stupid amount of hyphenated sentences. Why do they have to keep changing what they are saying mid sentence? If adds nothing to the storyline and just stutters the read.
Why I keep reading! About 70% is what I class as easy reading, it doesn't take a whole lot of concentration. I like fantasy and the academy vibe. I also like a damaged character who heals. Bored of the stupid boyfriend acts who never say the right thing and the woe is me, I'm so hard done by and have to do it solo. The similarities to the authors other series is ridiculous You can make strong, damaged characters and not give them the exact same personality.
This is my least favorite book so far. The FMC is understandably damaged but also says the most damaging things to the people trying to help her. I don’t know what to do with that. It’s hard to root for somebody who is actively destroying any positive relationships she could have. There’s also a massive lack of relationship building between Bevan and her guys like where is the romance? Where is the dating? Where is the fun? We are getting absolutely no character building between the main characters and it just made me sad Because this is supposed to be a romance book
I guess this seems like a harsh review and I suppose it is but I really need something to turn around or I will be DNFing the next book.
I will start by saying I have read every active series by this author except House of Garner which I didn’t get swept into like the others. Personal opinions only here. I love that this series has a similar pattern to the others in all the best ways. Empowering women. Freedom for all from oppressive systems. The truth of things can break you and build you but it doesn’t make either easy. For those having trouble with the end of a certain series, the irreverent random lines poking fun in this series will allow you to reconnect with that story from another perspective and take on this new world. Try it, I think you will like it.
So i dont know if i missed the announcements that this was coming out or if it was a surprise but i was so excited when i saw this was out at 2:30 am! I love this new series! I love the way it continues from book two. It has a complex cast of characters. Which means i may have to go back and re-read books one and two but… then again i love a re-read. I will for sure be buying this series as it comes out. (This time i unfortunately have to wait till Friday so THANK GOD for KINDLE UNLIMITED) Bevin struggles quite a bit in this book so i hope she has some good come her way. I mean a big, big win. THANKS FOR THE NEW BOOK!!!
Im so thrilled with this series. Its absolutely been the perfect cure for the downward spiral i was in after the end of Artemis. That needed to be said first! I'm not sure if this is a spoiler so you may want to skip this next part. Please, please, please please left something happen so Wyatt is not the priest. I love that he lives Bev, but I do not feel like he deserves the position at all. I'm so over him that I'm not even interested in him as her partner. Just my opinion, don't hate me. I am extremely interested in this series and I cannot wait for the next one. I will download it at midnight and miss word on release day!
Started out as a fab series! Loved the characters and story telling!! ………. But……. I don’t think I can finish the series as it’s getting on my nerves now, Bevin was an awesome character in book 1 and all the guys were great, now she is pushing them away? Why did she push Wyatt and kelton away ?? Why is it a “spicy RH” but no spiciness?? Is she ever going to mate with these guys?? I had to skip a lot in book 3 because it got boring sorry but a lot of it didn’t need to be added and it got confusing 🫤 she is supposed to be a goddess who has 5 mates and the guys are hardly part of the story it has so much potential….. apologies but this is just my review 🤷🏼♀️😩
I didn’t review the first or second books, but I’m going to review this one. I don’t think I’ve ever read a series where the FMC pisses me off so much. I literally want to reach through the pages and shake her! I get that she is naïve and sheltered, but her interactions with the MMC’s, leaves so much to be desired. I can’t force myself to read the fourth book. I like the plot and I like the story, but I think that there’s so much that could be left out to really enhance the story. While the FMC Has been through abuse, neglect, and torture, she actually comes off as a spoiled, tantrum throwing, brat.
