What TF did I just read? Im all confused and I feel bamboozled.
This story was weird and disturbing , with a little bit of madness, with a pinch of confusion, but oddly entertaining to say the least. This book has so much potential to be better that it hurts my soul. How do you go from being the kidnapper and the one who killed her brother one day to falling in love with the person you kidnapped like 3 days ago? This book had me like WTH the whole book. I wanted to DNF, but it was so weird and oddly satisfying to read that I kept on reading.
3.9 stars ⭐️! I could get used to dark urban romances like this! This was my first time reading a book by this author and she didn’t disappoint. I was throughly invested in this book! Everyday I read several pages of this book until I was finished. One downside of this story however was it was too fast-paced. There were several holes in the story that didn’t add up and I would’ve loved more background/information regarding certain characters and situations.
Two rival families.. enemies to lovers, instant attraction, forbidden romance… YES PLEASE. To be able to find a love that makes you give up everything just to be with each other ughhh I love that trope. Both our main characters didn’t care about anyone’s else opinion about their relationship, their family drama that constantly tried to tear them apart, or ruling their family’s empire. They literally just wanted to be together. And in the end they accomplished just that! They built their own empire.
P.S.. I wouldn’t mind Carmelo having his own book.. just saying Ms. Author. Carmelo got my curiosity and my attention.
All I can say is I don’t know what I read… From the moment Enzo kidnapped Capri he was thinking about her in an inappropriate way. She’s 20 if I’m remembering right he’s either in his late 20’s or 30’s. After he put her in the cage he did bring her food but for the most part he was just thinking about the fact she was a virgin, she was wearing white, and what he could do to her.
At the end he should’ve told her brother no. How is he making demands when what happened to her was literally his fault if he didn’t fake his death Enzo would’ve been there with Capri instead of having to chase after him to bring him back. Enzo should’ve told him no and kept in contact with his father. He actually wasn’t a good dad to Enzo and it felt like the author made the dad be different to fast. It went from him being mean towards Enzo and telling him not to call him father to being nice and telling him how proud of him he is.
The cousins literally hired someone to whip Capri and went through with it as a form of “ punishment” and the brother turns around and let them be apart of giving Enzo his punishment. They should’ve been punished for what they did to YOUR sister but you let them off. That’s crazy
First off Enzo irritated me to my core. He had no backbone whatsoever. Like you’re a trained assassin but sticking around to be your dad‘s do boy because you’re his only legitimate son just for y’all to make up in the end??? Tf???
I feel bad for poor Capri because she was just an innocent bystander in an old love triangle. Poor girl went through hell for basically no reason. I loved her character though I just feel like she deserves so much better than Enzo.
I was talking about this in a book group I’m in but I hate when the FMC’s point of view is how much she loves the MMC, but when you get to the MMC’s POV it’s just how much he likes her body. Like every time Enzo started speaking I wanted to turn the audio off lmfao.
The ending was somewhat happy but not really. Enzo & his dad made up but he wasn’t able to continue to rebuild the relationship because of the promise he made so that he could marry Capri, but on the other hand they got her brother out of the orphanage. This is an interesting read. Again definitely read those triggers before you dive into this.

After learning her last living brother has been killed, Capri is kidnapped from her father's compound and in a twisted fate, falls for her captor, Enzo. Family secrets are revealed, betrayal at home and just as Capri feels safe, she's taken again. Enzo vows to find her and kill everyone involved. This story was intriguing with a good dose of twists and turns, but I didn't like all the things Capri endured. That would have never happened to a man. Her innocence and lack of knowledge of the family business left her vulnerable and easy prey. I get it, but didn't necessarily like shit happening to her time and time again. I still recommend this book, though. Great job for her second project!
I DNF this one, I actually didn’t get far at all. But the beginning was already not making sense. First off if her father had 6 children then what happened to the rest of the kids? His wife was pregnant with their 5th children when the MFC was born and why would he want her to marry someone his age? His reasoning was pretty dumb. Then the scene in the car when she screamed for no reason at all. Why would u scream and NOT lock the doors? I’m sure the car was bullet proof. Anywho I could see where this book was going in the first 5% and I refused to waste anymore of my time.
Ms. Ariya ! You didn’t have to come through like you mama! That shiii was fyeee ! Girl from beginning to end ! Had my little anxiety in a chokehold not knowing wtf about to happen next !! This is my 2nd book and when I say I chipped a nail trying to follow so I don’t miss out! I didn’t know I liked Dark Mafia Romances but babyyy 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! It didn’t end on a cliffhanger BUT I’m so invested and so much more that can come these remaining characters!! I just pray to the book Gods that you get some ideas lol an inspiration Pooh ! 💡
The plot gave beauty and the beast at first and I wasn’t really feeling it to much but I love we get to see how these character’s relationship progress what they were willing to do and sacrifice to be together. I hated how everybody did these two , a break was something they couldn’t catch . The fmc has nothing but a hard time , I definitely felt for them . Hated their family members . The one thing I felt Like the relationship did a 160 to fast I would’ve love to see the turning point .
For the record, this is my first book that I have read by this author. Her descriptions when it came to even a simple kiss or a look was sooo good. Reading this book you was able to envision every scene. This dark romance got a little bit of everything from kidnapping to family secrets and some drama. Not going to lie I got a thing for a little kidnapping trope. Just check this book out you won’t be disappointed.
This was my first time reading a book by this author and it was pretty good. Most Mafia stories have an arranged marriage, however this one did not. Enzo kidnapped Capri on his father's orders. He instantly fell in love with her. And because they were sworn enemies, loving her didn't come easy. They both were punished and barely escaped death. In the end though, love always wins.
This story had a lot going on, but I enjoyed it with all the graphic content. Capri wanted no parts of her mafia family, she wanted love and to live her life, but she was definitely going through a lot. Enzo was on standing business when it came to Capri even thought their families were enemies. I was really happy Enzo got his happy ending because he had been through so much in his life. Read Trigger Warnings before reading!
I wanted to keep reading, but it just seemed like certain scenes were dragged out. Moments that were amping up the angst started to leave much to be desired. The FMC simply got on my nerves. 🤷🏾♀️ A weakling. Innocence is one thing, but this was something else. Enzo, the MMC was so incredibly dingy. Couldn’t sense a set up if it was tattooed on him, BUT he was a hitman…? Nah…
I’m sure others will love the book. It just wasn’t for me. 😬
This was like a really good Wattpad story iykyk. It had a cute adolescent vibe to it. I enjoyed the story, I just wish there was MORE. More detail more dialogue, more backstory of the characters. This felt very rushed and too fast paced. The author IS young so the vibe and pace of the book made a lot of sense and which is why I bumped it from 2 to 3 stars… there’s a lot of potential. I am looking forward to reading more of her work and seeing how she grows in her writing style.
Even In The Darkest Times There Can Still Be Hope 💕
Oh My Goodness, Enzo only wanted to be loved and appreciated by his father. Anything his father wanted his to do he did, even kidnapping the daughter of his father's rival. This story touches on attempted murder, mental health, kidnapping, jealousy and murder. There also a bit of mystery and suspense. Enzo did get his HEA with Capri. Kudos to the author👏🏾👏🏾
It just didn't flow with me. Enzo just got way too soft at the end like your father a Mafia boss. She still didn't mess with her family so what was the point. I feel like he didn't stand up to his name. What is the punishment for the brother. Like this book didn't make sense to me. Jmo
First time reading this author. I have never read a mafia story like this. Story wasn't bad but it was left with alot of holes. Like where were the other brothers? Did he have a relationship with them? How can one mafia kills off an whole mafia family without any retaliation? Again story was most definitely interesting & different.
The hate that Enzo had to give up his family just for love and the brother needs to be dealt with for running off and causing all of this mess. The twins need to be put down for trying to take over in the first place. And what happens to the twins they get a
I finished it because I don’t DNF books too often. But this was just not my cup of tea. It felt all over the place. The AAVE was weirdly placed and should’ve been kept out considering I genuinely forgot they were black until her skin color was mentioned. I felt like in the beginning things were out together much better but it got a little out of control throughout.
Good premise, horrible execution. It was loosely thrown together. Capri was weak and clueless to the entire time. It didn’t make sense for her father to leave her so defenseless knowing the threat against their family. Then Enzo was not the brightest. Then the last half of the book with the cousins didn’t make sense. Just an overall waste of time.
My goodness, how much more did the poor girl have to suffer thru. I like mafia storylines but this book was all over the place and lacked a real flow. This was my first book by this author. I’m unsure if I would read more by her. Her writing style isn’t my cup of tea.
I enjoyed this audiobook. The narrator did a great job and telling the story. At first, I was a little confused with the mafia situation the kidnapping and everything in between. Then later on into the story, it turned out to be a really nice love story and I understood the whole mafia situation with the two families
Her brother was a coward for what he did. His friend was a coward for what he did. One thing about him is he is going to go hard for his woman. Her brother needs to be dethroned. What type of leader is he.
This is my first read by this author and I can say I enjoyed this story overall. There were a few parts that had me ready to beat everybody up . It was like dang come on y’all . It was dark, suspenseful, and messy. Great work!!
It was just that okay. So much felt missing and incomplete. The story was going good but fell at the plot. She and Enzo gets punished, but her cousins get no consequences for damn near killing her.
TikTok strikes again. This book was recommended. I was impressed with the story line or how the book progressed. It moved extremely fast but was not clearly thought out.
This was an amazing story. The characters and thr story line was great. I truly enjoyed it. I'm gonna be checking out other books by you Ariya Brooks keep writing I promise to keep reading. Lata
