The shield she lives in may protect her from the cursed death dealing dragons that ravage the land, but protection can start to feel like a prison. She's forced to accept the barrier and the sheltered life it provides until a mage's words stir something within. A hidden relic calls from beyond the wall of wind, and she can no longer stay put.
But there's just one problem... leaving is forbidden.
Knowing the charming outcast is rumored to have escaped the confines of their settlement before, Kryssia seeks out Rhael for help.
To her surprise, he agrees, but on one condition—he joins her.
This was a fun quick read that I read in one day 📚
Spice, fated mates, cursed dragons, and fae with elementals! This was an easy read story, and the world building was super easy to follow.
The only thing that threw me for a loop was the MMC & FMC living in the same settlement but not realizing they were fated until they went on their adventure together. I think it would have been more believable if they had been from different settlements and then accidently run into each other on the adventure... just felt a little unrealistic that they didn't realize the bond sooner.
Otherwise, I'd recommend this if you want an easy read fae romance fantasy! 📚🧚♀️🔥✨️🫶
OF WINGS & SECRETS had a very interesting set up and backstory to the world but the plot itself felt a little basic and simple. I did like both Kryssia and Rhael, though they felt a lot younger than their actual ages, more like teenagers rather than 20ish. Their romance was sweet with a bit of spice added in and I did appreciate the way Kryssia didn't overreact to Rhael's secrets and instead gave him the chance to explain things.
It's a novella so events move rather quickly and this might have contributed to the simple feel; everything gets resolved pretty easily. One area where I do feel like OF WINGS & SECRETS excelled was in the way Lylah Taylor wrote about grief and losing someone you love. Those moments were very poignant and real.
Content Warning: past death of parents, brief moments of grief
I would’ve devoured this book in one sitting if I hadn’t started it at the end of the day when I was already too tired—it’s such a fun and quick read, I practically ate it up!
As I’ve said before, Taylor’s writing never disappoints; it’s always such a delight. Her stories consistently impress me, and I just can’t get enough!
This one is a cute little romance that includes fated mates, fae, dragons (which it never goes wrong when they're involved, let’s be honest), love, grief, and magic. It even has a sprinkle of spice! 🌶️
I’m already looking forward to more of Kryssia and Rhael’s journey—plus, I’m obsessed with their names lol. A solid 3.75 stars only because I'd like more depth to their story as it feels a bit rushed for me whenever it comes to novellas, other than that I have no complaints at all.
-I couldn’t get hooked to this book. The world was in fact very interesting with the dystopian type of of community with the enclosed city and the forbidden outside. Furthermore, the plot had some intrigue to it, but the book was way to short and rushed for me to actually be able to enjoy it as I should.
-Same thing goes to the characters and their relationship with one another. The book was too short and rushed to really get anything good out of these characters. The romance was too much. Fated mates who confess their love for each other after that short time feels so forced. I’ve said it before but despite being fated mates, you don’t necessarily love that person in the instant.
-I don’t remember much from the ending just that the two characters are happily together. For this short a book there should have been something left to ponder over but I didn’t really get that feeling. I originally thought this was a novella for the cursed kingdom series and then I realised it was a start to its own series. Depending on the premise and the reviews I may or not read it further.
This book has an enchanting world, a beautiful fated mates story, magic, a fight scene and a dash of spice all in a quick little novella.
There is just enough world building to set the stage for this world. There, fae who possess different elemental magic surviving after a powerful mage with fire (scorcher) finds a talisman to increase his power but instead instills a curse turning those with similar abilities and need for power into dragons. those who remain hide behind shielded domes in small communities. However one Nature fae dreams of more and with the help of a grumpy wind fae escapes the confines of her safe community.
This was such a great fantasy novella. It's hard to fit everything into a novella and it often feels like something is missing but this wasn't the case for this book. I do prefer full length books and I would have loved this to have been longer but I don't think anything was missing from this story. It has everything I love in a fantasy- fae, mates, dragons 🥰 it was a great shorter read for me and with all the elements of a good fantasy story. I can't wait for more in this world
