“I HOPE YOU HAVE NIGHTMARES ABOUT ME” by Amanda Ruzsa is the first book I’ve ever read by this author, and wow, what a wild, powerhouse of a read! I loved how quickly I devoured this book, since I couldn’t put it down once I started reading it.
Before I begin my review, there are a ton of trigger warnings for this book. They are…

- Necrophilia

If any of these trigger you, please do not read this book. Moving along, I started this book on Friday the 13th, the only Friday the 13th in 2025, and was blown away. I loved Ruzsa’s writing style and was amazed that she was able to pack a book barely 100 pages long with such intensity.
Right from the start, you’re thrown into the initial story, which is very graphic domestic abuse, and then the story spirals into jaw-dropping chaos. I was hooked from the start, and then, a drop-the-mic plot twist hit me hard at the 30% mark. I was shocked, but then what transpired next was something I would have never expected.
Don’t worry, I would never spoil anything for my fellow horror readers, but let’s just say that if you love female revenge horror, you'll love this book. It’s a genuine page-turner, with some brilliantly written gory horror. I made many weird faces while reading.
Besides all the sheer gore in this book, I enjoyed a little Stephen King reference, which made me smile big. Speaking of King, I also loved how Ruzsa wrote this in a similar style to CARRIE, with blogged news excerpts which added another layer of immersion to the story.
As for the ending, I was hoping for more, but it made sense in the grand scheme of things. It wasn’t terrible, but I craved a gorier showdown to match the peak of the main story. I enjoyed it, and it was close to perfection, but either way, I’m excited to read more of Ruzsa’s work.
I give “I HOPE YOU HAVE NIGHTMARES ABOUT ME” by Amanda Ruzsa a 4/5 for being a fantastic book that is short, sweet, and straight to the point. I’m a huge fan of female rage/revenge horror books, and this is up there with the best of them. I will never forget this book, especially with those incredible female revenge killings.

Before I dig in, I want to thank the author for allowing the reader to get some insight into the concept of this story. Coming from a wild world of various abuses in my life, I fully appreciate it all. However, I greatly struggled with this book. The general concept was ok, being vengeance and justice, but everything felt extremely surface level. There was barely any emotional depth to our leading ladies, but they were just seemingly pushed through at a rapid pace, all to just further the story along. Nothing felt organic and it all moved way too quickly and without enough context and character depth. The latter portion of the story was also broken up with multiple police blogs which further made it harder to focus on what was happening. Again, that space needed to be used to focus more on Mara and Rhayne. Not a bad effort, but this desperately needed a good content editor to make it all work the way it was intended to.

Never underestimate a woman scorned and this visceral bloody story will remind you of that fully. Once back in the land of the living, our protagonist gains a certain bloodlust and the fast paced narrative kicks into overdrive.
This is a fantastic novella with great characters and a twist you won't see coming. I highly recommend it.

Talk about shitty neighbors. A second chance to return the pain inflicted on victims and survivors, sign me up!

Pretty violent revenge story that initially piqued my interest. The beginning of the story was captivating, even though it was a bit of a long intro for such a short book. The second part had satisfying revenge scenes, but overall it remained pretty surface-level. I would have loved a bit more depth. The ending felt like it came very sudden and unexpected, and gave me more questions than closure.

I’ve read several iterations of this novella and whilst I already loved the first draftI read, the improvements with the following versions were noticeable and just made this story the beauty that it is now!
This novella has one of the most enraging openings ever, building up the tension and the need for revenge straight away. This insatiable thirst for retribution is the main thread of the story and one that I lapped up with gusto!
I loved how Rhayne and Mara become one and together they bring death to all those who selfishly wronged women, thinking themselves righteous!

What a read! I love a good revenge story. I know this story hits close to home for the author, and I have to commend her on her strength to write about this topic. I was absolutely rooting for Rhayne the whole story. Domestic violence is such a heartbreaking thing, and I know that so many survivors wish they could get their revenge just as Rhayne (and Mara) did. I love the reincarnation and the red stiletto death, so sexy and fierce.
The first chapter was 1st person pov, but the rest was 3rd. I would’ve liked it to either be 1st person every time we’re focusing on Rhayne, or stick with 3rd person. I also wish we could’ve read about Rhayne got her revenge against her own abuser. I’m so glad she was able to hurt other awful men, but the man that killed her deserved punishment as well. I think this story has some good bones, but I could see this being stretched out into a full novel.

I read this when the author first wrote it last year, and it was awesome!! This is the updated, extended version. It is FANTASTIC! I loved reading more into the back stories of the characters. The gore and revenge was excellent as well!

One of the best revenge stories I have read in a long time. When the law doesn't work for you, sometimes you have to take things into your own hands, even if it's with a little help. Quick read, but well worth it.

I Hope You Have Nightmares About Me is an unapologetically intense collection. Amanda Ruzsa doesn’t tiptoe around pain—she kicks the door down and writes from the wreckage. This book feels like opening someone’s private journal at its most vulnerable and defiant moments.

I haven't felt such oppression for a very long time while reading a work of horror, as I did in the early chapters of this novella. As Rhayne, our heroine put it:

This was an awesome feminine rage story that tackles a tough reality for women in modern society, which is domestic abuse. Despite the MC being killed, death isn't final for her. She'll get her revenge and all I can say it's brutal for the bad men out there. It's a chilling read that leaves you satisfied if you love bloody horror.
The character development is well done for a short read. You feel bad for Rhayne and Mara after seeing how they were treated and you can't wait to see how they get their revenge. Be sure to check your triggers before reading, because it can be a tough read if you've experienced domestic abuse. However, if you can handle it, you'll be rewarded with a bloody, but thrilling story.

This novella is a tale of horror, peppered with just enough supernatural heat and bringing a stunning plot to an enduring, forever in my memory, read. This is a real horror. These monsters are something people deal with every day. I was immediately pulled into this one! I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire read. Even with the supernatural elements, this is an absolute real fear and I am here for this type of story!

Revengefully delicious!

Thank you to Amanda Ruzsa for sending this book to me. We love a “good for her” moment and this definitely embodied that. This novella was a quick read, and really brought out emotions for DV situations. I loved the revenge moments, and the supernatural elements as well.
