I've only just begun working through this book and the accompanying workbook and can tell this is a must-read (and must-DO, as Scott LaPierre makes clear we are to be not only hearers but doers of the Word)! Teaching and encouraging in gratitude and contentment are common themes of the work I do as a counselor. I'm so grateful for this resource! It also came along at a very timely moment, as I'm walking alongside another woman in her putting off of covetousness and putting on of contentment. Thank you for writing this, Scott! 🙌

A Fantastic and Encouraging Read

Few books reshape how I view a biblical principle, but Scott LaPierre’s Being Content God's Way did just that. His contrast between covetousness and contentment opened my eyes to aspects of faith I hadn't considered before. LaPierre’s message is clear, biblically grounded, and refreshingly honest—no fluff, just truth.

Chapter 11: Godliness with Contentment was particularly compelling. The story of Horatio Spafford, the hymnist behind It Is Well with My Soul, resonated deeply, reinforcing the book’s powerful message. Beyond knowledge, this book challenged me to rethink how I approach contentment in everyday life.

I know this will remain a valuable resource in my library for years to come. For those wanting to go deeper, the accompanying workbook is a fantastic tool for applying these lessons. LaPierre doesn’t just instruct—he challenges, refines, and transforms.

In this insightful book, LaPierre delves deeply into the concept of covetousness, emphasizing how a thorough understanding of this subject is vital for grasping what it means to be truly content.

Being Content God’s Way: A Biblical Guide to Put Off Covetousness and Put on Contentment by Scott LaPierre is a book that clearly teaches what the Bible says about finding peace and joy in every situation. The author uses verses like Philippians 4:12–13, Hebrews 13:5, and 1 Timothy 6:6–10 to show that true contentment is not about money, possessions, or circumstances—it is about trusting Christ . The book explains that covetousness is the opposite of contentment, and until we deal with that heart issue, we cannot experience the lasting peace God wants for us.

What I found helpful was how practical the teaching is. Pastor LaPierre doesn’t just say stop being covetous or learn to be content. Instead, he shows from Scripture how to put off ungodly thoughts and replace them with godly actions. For example, he uses real-life situations—like how we talk to our children, or what we choose to watch or read—and explains how those choices either feed discontentment or help us grow in Christ. This made me reflect on my own habits and realize areas where I needed to change.

The book is written in a simple, clear style, which made it easy for me to read and understand. It didn’t feel overly academic or difficult, but more like a pastor giving sound, biblical advice in a friendly way. The personal stories he shares also made the message more relatable. There is also a workbook that goes along with the book, which I haven’t started yet but I’m looking forward to, because I can see how it will help me apply the lessons in a deeper way.

I would strongly recommend this book to any Christian who struggles with comparison, restlessness, or always wanting more. It really challenged me to think about what was in my heart and how I view God’s provision. At the same time, it gave me encouragement and hope, reminding me that through Christ I already have everything I need. This book is a solid resource for personal study or even group study, and I believe it is one of those books that is worth reading more than once.

The title really grabbed my attention. I know I have had times where I am not content with where I am at. It may be that I’m anxious over something, wanting to get things done in a hurry or simply trying to move ahead of God. This book is a good tool to help readers find content with God while deepening their faith.

I like how the author illustrates different topics with scripture, stories and Biblical figures while guiding us to understand the Word better. The author talks about the Prodigal Son and shows us that he was not content with what he had. When he was out on his own, he realized that the grass wasn’t greener on the other side. Do we sometimes race toward something we think is better? When we find out that what we thought we needed was not good for us, we learn a lesson in being content.

God gives us free will. We can choose to be content with Him, or we can choose to turn away. “Contentment is more easily experienced by remembering that whatever we covet will only be enjoyed briefly.” God is with us everyday, and wants us to be content with Him. This book has made me realize that no matter what I go through, being content with God is the key. “If it is not God’s will to have, accomplish, or experience something, we must give up what we want and choose to be content with what God wants.”

I have enjoyed this study and would encourage others to grab a copy along with the workbook. It is well written and I liked how the author explains things with examples and scriptures. I want to be content by trusting God and knowing that He wants the best for me.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

In Being Content God's Way, Scott LaPierre dives deep into the biblical understanding of contentment, emphasizing the mutually exclusive relationship between contentment and covetousness. His central argument is profound yet simple: when we are truly content, we do not covet, and when we covet, we cannot be content. LaPierre’s message is that contentment cannot be achieved without first overcoming the destructive force of covetousness, making this a must-read for those seeking to find lasting peace and satisfaction in God's provision.

What sets this book apart is the conversational tone that LaPierre masterfully adopts throughout. It’s as if he’s sitting across from you, having a personal chat. He doesn’t just lecture; he engages, bringing the biblical principles to life in a way that feels approachable and relatable. The depth of the content is balanced with a clear, pastoral warmth that invites the reader to reflect and apply the teachings in their own lives.

This is an excellent read for anyone seeking to better understand the biblical framework of contentment and how it applies in our daily struggles against discontentment and materialism. LaPierre's writing is thought-provoking, practical, and spiritually enriching. His ability to convey such profound truths with clarity and simplicity makes it a book I would highly recommend to anyone wrestling with the issue of covetousness or seeking a deeper understanding of godly contentment.

"Being Content God’s Way and the Being Content God’s Way Workbook" by Scott LaPierre is two great resources to help Christians overcome coveting and covetousness. The author says Our discontent is not because of external stuff but because of our lack of trust in God. He shares lots of Biblical passages and states that covetousness is a heart issue and reveals a weakness in our relationship with God. I have never thought of it before, but when the author shares the practice of putting off and putting on, it makes perfect sense. This practice is you not only give up the sin you replace it with a something healthy. The author uses these 2 examples as well as other to explain it (You stopped yelling at your kids, but what did you start saying to them and you stopped watching things you should not, but did you start reading your Bible more. The author thoroughly gives sound reason and examples (Biblical verses and other sources) for the things he writes. One reason I like this author's books is because they are easily read and understood. Sometimes book that are nonfiction and want to teach us something is technically written, but not this author's books. I think this is a book all Christian should read at least once if not more than once.

I haven't done the workbook study yet but am planning on starting it soon, in fact I am really pretty excited about starting it.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.

Being Content God’s Way and the Being Content God’s Way Workbook by Scott LaPierre combine to make an excellent 13-week Bible study that helps build a firm foundation in Jesus Christ,. As with other books I have read by Scott LaPierre, this book and workbook draw you in and help build an understanding of what Biblically-based contentment looks like.

While you could just read the book on its own, I recommend reading the book and completing the corresponding pages in the workbook. I appreciate how Scott LaPierre contrasts contentment with covetousness. His writing style makes it easy to follow and engage what he writes about in both the book and workbook. He brings Scripture passages to the forefront and illustrates their importance and meaning.

Starting with an in-depth discussion about covetousness and including a number of Biblical characters, I found it easy to engage with this book. Perfect for an individual study, a small-group study, or a family study, I believe this series helps build a strong foundation in Biblical contentment.

So if you want a book with a corresponding workbook, check out Being Content God’s Way and the Being Content God’s Way Workbook by Scott LaPierre. I definitely recommend it.

I LOVE when books come at just the right moment in life. Being Content God's Way by Scott LaPierre is just the book at the moment.

I have always been one to be content with God's provisions and more for my life. Contentment is something that many struggle with strongly, myself included at times. The world, Christians included, is at time where Contentment is a struggle. So many have an "I want" and will go to extent to get what they want, including luxury items. I am a "Plain Jane" girl and for the most part I am content with life. I have my struggles and wants though.

Being Contents's God Way is a MUST READ for so many. I really LOVE how this book is Biblically sound. The author really gets the message across through Scripture references. The 10th Commandent comes to mind while reading this book "You shall not covet". Coveting material things is wrong, but it seen so much all around me. The author points to the fact that Contentment is a choice and we can choose to be content with God's provisions and blessings.

I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who loves Biblically sound books and encouragement to be Content. GREAT BOOK!

LaPierre's books are timely. It seems people, including Christians are less content than ever, despite possessions and wealth. I like how he identifies the problem right away. Our discontent is not because of external stuff but because of our lack of trust in God. He explores key Bible passages on the topic, spending a great deal of time on the dangers of coveting. As a heart issue, coveting reveals the weakness in our relationship with God.

I really appreciate the workbook. It is one thing to breeze through reading a book but it is quite another to be challenged by thought provoking questions on the topic. We remember more when we write down our own reflections. This workbook could be for personal use or in a discussion group.

I recommend the book and workbook for all Christians. They provide the tools for us to develop a life of contentment, trusting God every day.

This helpful encouraging book and accompanying workbook will assist readers in applying godly principles to their daily lives in order to help them be more content. The author helps transform the individual mindset from focusing on self and what you want (like the world does) to viewing life through the lens of God’s Word and principles. Contentment seems more of a decision than automatic. No one will ever have “enough” by the world’s standards, but God’s values are different. I appreciated the personal examples and the easy-to-understand explanations. The workbook reinforces the principles of the main book along with pertinent questions to assist with applying the truths to one’s own life. The teaching is all based on Scripture. The book’s thirteen chapters are easy to read and contain multiple footnotes with source material and further explanations. Topics such as coveting are thoroughly examined with biblical and modern examples as illustrations. These books would be great for church libraries and study groups. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

This book is an incredible reminder of who we are without God, and who we can be with God. It reminds us of what we have without God and what we do have with God. This book and it’s workbook opened my eyes to what contentment (and in turn, covetousness) really is and how we can only receive true contentment through God.

There was a lot of conviction going through this book. LaPierre first discuss covetousness, giving current and Biblical examples to help support his teachings. He then, using the same strategy, discusses the opposite of covetousness–contentment.

Reading this book was an incredibly humbling experience. I highly recommend pairing it with the workbook too. While I found some of the questions in the workbook to be repetitive, the questions helped me to dig deeper and really reflect.

Overall, I would recommend this book for your own personal reflection or for a small group book study.

I had received a copy of the book as part of the Celebrate Lit Blogging Team and was required to give an honest review.

This Bible study is one of the most interesting studies I’ve ever been through on the topic of contentment because the author first takes the reader on an in-depth study on covetousness. The study is based on the Biblical principle of “put off, put on” and the author’s contention is that we have to first “put off” covetousness before we can truly “put on” contentment. The author defines covetousness for us by sharing many examples of this in scripture and then applying those to our lives today. I loved the depth of this study. This isn’t just a surface look at what the Bible says about contentment, but a pathway to become truly content. After reading this, I have a better understanding of why we struggle with contentment in our daily lives and also the good news of how we can experience genuine contentment throughout our lifetime.

There’s a workbook that goes along with the study that would be very helpful for both individual or group study.

I voluntarily received a copy of both the book and the workbook from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

I've always struggled with covetousness and finding contentment amidst changing circumstances. I used to believe contentment was largely circumstantial. However, after reading this book, I learned that we can choose contentment regardless of our circumstances-it's a choice, rather than a feeling.
Some of the valuable lessons from the first half of the book include the necessity of repenting of our covetousness and how God can allow us to obtain what we covet to our detriment. The second half delves into the vanity of wealth and possessions, the inherent dangers of prosperity, and the secret to experiencina lasting contentment. It's encouraging to know that God is pleased with our faithfulness in small things. I also love that we’re learning from biblical accounts throughout the book!
Overall, I can't recommend this book enough. It's worth revisiting time and time again!

Have you ever wondered if it’s possible to have peace in your life and find contentment? Have you tried self help books, calming techniques, and dietary changes and yet find contentment seems elusive?

This book may just get you off the treadmill that never stops and put you on track to contentment that doesn’t require you to work yourself to death, be perfect, or strive to make it yourself.

Scott has a way of simply bringing scripture into the forefront of the issue, into Godly wisdom and Godly living that changes fundamentally the way you look at contentment.

This book is insightful and spirit inspired and may change your life. I recommend it.

The book alone is excellent but added with the workbook which helps you take a personal look at applying these principles to your life, you have the power to step into the freedom of true contentment.

Like many other Christians, there are times I struggle with contentment. Scott LaPierre challenged my thinking, and will likely challenge yours, in his thought provoking book Being Content God’s Way. I was a bit bothered at first that he started the book with a lengthy discussion of covetousness. But, as I continued reading, I began to understand why he did so.
LaPierre interspersed many Biblical characters who exhibited the characteristics he discusses.
Being Content God’s Way is an excellent book for a personal or small group study. It is a book you may want to read more than once.
I recommend getting the 13-week Bible study guide as a companion to the book.

Scott has a way with words that makes understanding scripture and applying it to yourself make so much sense, he opens your eyes to see how we all need God’s grace and Being Content God’s Way will help you see how you relate to certain people in the bible and changes you may need to make to your heart by asking God for guidance, help, grace and forgiveness and in doing so, helps you become content Gods Way.
Thank you Scott for yet another amazing book that has blessed my life and helped me to be Content God’s Way.

Being Content God’s Way by author Scott LaPierre blends Scripture verses with everyday life examples to examine the root causes of today’s discontentment. This 13-week Bible study guides readers to true and lasting contentment, which comes when we fully embrace what God’s Word offers to us all. The accompanying workbook poses questions to examine areas of our personal lives where envy, conflict, and covetousness enslave us with a spirit of anxiety. I found that pairing the book and workbook to complete side by side as the author suggests brings maximum benefit. I am recommending Being Content God’s Way to several of my friends for individual or group study.

From the very first page, 'Being Content God’s Way' grabbed me with its wisdom and clarity. The metaphor of trees and deep roots made the message so relatable Christ is our foundation, and without rooting into Him, true contentment is impossible. As someone always striving for peace in chaos, this chapter gave me hope and direction. Can’t wait to dig into chapter 3!

This book came at a time in my life when I needed it and I'm sure most of us could use it at some point in our live. Life has been hard and dreams lost but this book helped me learn to be content with what I have instead of focusing on what the world says we need or should have. The workbook was an added bonus that brought me more indepth with the lessons in the book and dig deeper.
