What goes together perfectly? A child and this bubbly, spirited picture book about all kinds of things that belong with each other! It’s filled with rhythm and rhyme that begs to be read aloud, and illustrated with sunshine-bright, joyful art. “We go together like ice cream and cone” shows kids gazing in delight at huge scoops of multicolored ice cream, while a puppy smiles happily at his piled-high bowl in “We go together like dog and bone.” For “fire and dragon,” the appealing green creature toasts marshmallows with his own breath, and adorable cows fiddle, dance, and leap in “cow and moo.” Of course, the satisfying ending has the best pair-up of all: mother and child in a big hug with an “I love you” and two hearts intertwined.
We go together is a rhyming poetry book full of fun and cute similes. The book describes how "we" go together from a child's point of view. They compare simple things like bees and honey and shoes and socks. When I read it I thought for a second that I was singing a song. When you put it together it sounds like a jump rope or patty cake song. Very energetic and high spirited, but very simple! The pictures coincide with the words, so for example "we go together like fire and dragon", shows a picture of a dragon blowing fire on marshmallows by a camp fire. I thought this book was very cute and could put a smile on anyone's face!
This book is good for story times. It rhymes so it would be fun to get kids to guess what is coming up next, which would keep them interested and engaged. The pictures are cute and colorful and the text is simple.
The book We Go Together written by Todd Dunn is a poetry picture book that is filled with rhythm and rhyme. The illustrations in the book are bright and joyful and perfect for young children. "We go together like ice cream and cone" shows kids gazing in delight at huge scoops of ice cream. That is just one example from the book that shows the children how things go together. This is a perfect educational book that helps kids figure out how to put things that are similar together. The age group that I think is appropriate for this picture/ poetry book is around ages 3 to 5 years old. It is the perfect time that they will be learning what goes together. The theme of this book would be considered to be matching because it is “What goes together.” I think many children would find this book appealing because it is fun and interesting and very humorous.
We Go Together by Todd Dunn and illustrated by Miki Sakamoto provides a delightful collection of “pairs” in a child’s life. Think: “socks and shoes, “ice cream and cone,” and “dog and bone.” Some obvious pairs are absent, like peanut butter and jelly, so readers will have fun brainstorming their own pairs. I included this charming book based upon it’s final lines: “We go together because you love me and I love you.” Love, after all, is what links a family together.
AQ Lens: Take the opportunity to discover links of commonality beyond the obvious one of appearances. Just as adoptive family members don’t necessarily look similar, other commonalities do exist. We just have to deepen our noticing skills to help us identify them. Equally important, we must convey to our children that the way we are different is also validated and appreciated.
The book We Go Together, is a picture book that is intended for the young reader in the (P) Primary, age 5 through 8 years old, grades kindergarten through third grade.
This is a rhyming book with illustrations of things that go together. This book could be read or sung.
I gave the book a 4 star rating, because I like it. The book has colorful pictures and the words sound that they just belong together. The message which ended the book was wonderfully heard. The young reader would like this book due to the graphics and the rhyming words. I would use this book to build vocabulary and to allow the children to come up with two words that sound alike. I would also use the words in the book to create a song.
A cute rhyming book about things that go together. "We go together like horse and wagon. We go together like fire and dragon." The illustrations are colorful and whimsical and complement the text perfectly, except... I wish the final illustration had been different. It shows a little girl and her mom hugging each other, "We go together; that's what we do. We go together because you love me and I love you." I wish the child had been more androgynous, or that is had been illustrated with bunnies, puppies, teddy bears, or another sexless animal. I'm not saying this book is just for girls, because it isn't, but pictures do speak to children.
Great choice for Valentine's day (Even though it is not a "Valentine's Day" book) and I think particulary the preschool storytime will enjoy "guessing" the rhyming words (with big bright picture clues!)
My granddaughter and I discovered this book at the library several weeks ago; we've been checking it out every two weeks since! The rhyme is catchy and my kindergarten girl giggles every time we (she) reads it. We bought it for her birthday this week!
