She’s a grumpy faerie with a failing bakery and one very inept employee… too bad she can’t fire him. He’s a fastidious werewolf with a fondness for Feng Shui and one very sloppy boss… too bad he can’t quit.
When Sophie inherits the Rhyme ’N Riddle Bakeshop from an elderly relation, it’s a dream come true for the faerie with the magic touch for baking. Even when she discovers she must employ her auntie’s former companion, Sophie figures it’s a small price to pay… until she meets him.
Handsome-as-a-Norse-god Teddy has never seen the inside of a kitchen. The ridiculous werewolf sneezes at dust bunnies and would rather clean floors than bake cookies. What was her auntie thinking?
Even worse, Sophie must provide Teddy with room, board, and a job for the next year… otherwise she forfeits her inheritance.
When Teddy turns up at the bakery to fulfill the terms of Miss Dragonfly’s will, he’s surprised to find a filthy faerie with attitude. If Sophie would just pick up her dirty socks and avoid placing eels in the bathtub, he might survive the next twelve months.
But Sophie cleans up nicely, smells delightful, and does something to his heartstrings at the oddest moments. Now Teddy has a new how can he avoid falling for his disheveled but delectable faerie boss?
Rhyme, Riddle, and Romance is an odd couple, grumpy sunshine, forced proximity, clean fated mates romance that occurs before the events in Half a Faerie.
If you’re looking for sweet, slow-burn romance with swoony kisses, second chances, and funny, heartwarming characters, don’t miss the Faeries of Door County, a clean paranormal romance series for fans of K. M. Shea and Dusty Rose. Set in the same interconnected world, each book is a happily-ever-after standalone story that can be read in any order.

I received an ARC copy from the author but wasn’t required to post a review. However, after reading this delightful book I had to give you my honest, voluntary impression of it!
Toni has written a delightful book which is full of humor throughout until a couple of traumatic incidents happen to both main characters which were caused by the same individual!
Sophie has inherited a building she wants to renovate into a bakery the only problem is that her late aunt has left ten percent ownership to an unknown who hasn’t arrived yet. When she resorts to trying to use her magic it backfires but who should appear after this disaster but the one who owns that ten percent!
When her magic is bound by her grandmother for six months she doesn’t know what to do but tries to make the best of it. However, she is attracted to a “bad boy” and even though her cousin tries to talk her out of it she goes on a date with him. Unfortunately the new guy is not happy because he knows she is his fated mate and even though they are complete opposites the mate bond can’t be denied.
This story about two paranormals who have nothing in common but this bond which affects him first but her later after he is injured. I enjoyed the interaction between these two and how Sophie starts to see the good qualities that Teddy possesses which starts to alter her perception of him.
It’s an enemies to friends to the marriage altar in this clean, no spice read which I truly enjoyed and know you will as well!
I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend this book to everyone! The writing is witty and the story flows so smoothly you are caught up in its flow and held captive until the final page!
If you’re looking for a light hearted romcom that will leave you wanting more, get this book and read it! I can guarantee you will be glad you did! For over the first half of the book you’ll be laughing and smiling over what you’re reading! Things take a more serious tone after that because of what happens to our two main characters who now are my friends!
Read this book today! You won’t regret your decision I promise you!
This story was such a page turner for me! I had so much fun reading it. I’m pretty new to fantasy, so the werewolf shifting part was especially interesting.
It had so many fun tropes I love: he falls first, enemies to lovers, age gap, one bed, fated mates, employer/employee, and best of all… a werewolf and a faerie! These two are total opposites, but somehow, they’re perfect together.
When Sophie inherits a bakery, she has big plans, none of which include being forced to hire a werewolf and give him room and board! If she doesn’t follow the rules, she loses her inheritance. Teddy, the werewolf, is nothing like Sophie. They clash big time at first. But forced proximity starts working its magic, and feelings begin to grow. Still, when an unexpected threat shows up, they have to face what’s really happening between them and take the risk of opening up...without knowing if the other feels the same.
I couldn’t put this book down. It was such a fun read, with a unique little town, Sophie’s close knit family, and lots of cool details about faerie life and werewolf shifting. Plus some swoony/steamy kisses, and all the vibes!
A great start to the Door County series, and now I definitely want to read the rest!
I gave it 4.5 stars (rounded up to 5). I received a complimentary copy. This is my honest opinion.
"Rhyme, Riddle, and Romance" is a super cozy paranormal set in a sweet small-town world that I really felt immersed in - I binged it all in one day of travel cross country. The characters are vivid (including tons of fun secondary characters) and the writing is so good! I enjoyed finding a totally clean fated mates story, a favorite trope of mine.
The end felt a little unfinished to me, but I think that's because this book, published third, is 1st chronologically, and I believe the final resolution with lone wolf Rafe takes place in Book 2, which happens last. Now that this book is out, it's best to read them in chronological order to get the full story arc: 3 - 1 - 2.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this super sweet forced proximity romance. The feisty banter, the building tension, the protectiveness over each other. Such a sweet story! This is Hallmark movie meets shifter paranormal and it is absolutely adorable.
You get a messy faerie who inherits her dream bakeshop, but to inherit it, she must give a room to a grumpy wolf shifter and work with him. You also get a little slight love triangle and minor possible sta!ker situation. The reluctant allies to sweet lovers with a protective MMC and caretaking that brings all the big feels and swoon.

Rating: 5/5 I received an eARC for my honest opinion
Although this is technically the third book in the Door County Series, it is also the first book. These books are from a series but they can be read as a standalone as well. Here we meet Sophie, who inherits her late aunt’s bakery—with one condition. She receives 90% of the inheritance, while the remaining 10% goes to Teddy… for one year. After that, they can buy each other out. Sophie is convinced this arrangement will be simple, especially since she believes “Teddy” is a woman named Leslie. Imagine her surprise when Teddy turns out to be not only male—but also a werewolf. And to make things even more complicated, their contract requires them to live together for the year. Sparks, clashes, and unexpected magic follow.
I’ve loved Toni Cabell’s writing since the first book I picked up from her, and she continues to deliver here. This charming paranormal romance is the perfect cozy fall read. It’s packed with small-town charm, a “he falls first” romance, witty banter, opposites-attract dynamics, and heartwarming character growth—all wrapped up in a sweet, closed-door love story. Honestly, the Door County series deserves to be adapted into a Hallmark movie.
Sophie is sassy, stubborn, a little grumpy, but also loyal and sweet. Teddy, on the other hand, is a neat freak with a gentle, caring soul who thrives on routine. On paper, they couldn’t be more different—but fate has other plans. Watching them navigate challenges, grow into better versions of themselves, and learn to trust one another was such a treat. I especially loved how Teddy worked to show Sophie he cared long before revealing the truth about who she really was to him—wanting her to choose him for himself, not just because of destiny.
Cabell’s world-building shines here too. The supernatural small-town setting is so vivid you’ll wish you could drive there, grab a sweet treat from the bakery, chat with the locals at the diner, and maybe ogle some of the handsome males.
Overall, this is a heartwarming, magical, and cozy romance that’s perfect for fans of small-town paranormals with lovable characters and feel-good vibes. I can’t wait to see what Toni Cabell gives us next!
I want to thank Toni Cabell for the opportunity to review this book.
Thank you Toni Cabell for an early read of Rhyme, Riddle, and Romance (Faeries of Door County Book 1) – This book is available September 4th.
This is another heartfelt creation by Cabell. I love going back to Door County and living the world of faeries. The magic that this author creates is stunning. I have enjoyed all of the characters in the three books of this series. Each of them having their own little spot in this fantasy created world.
This book especially had a grumpy lead, but unluck other grumpy sunshine books I have read, it’s the FMC that’s a little grumpy. And the good-looking werewolf that is the sunshine… well. until someone messes with Miss faerie.. enter the action of werewolf fights and the world of fated mates.
I really REALLY hope this author continues this series because I cannot get of enough of this creative characters and their cute little world!

I absolutely love this series. I used to love werewolf books, but it is really hard to find cozy werewolf books that dont have that darker, urban fantasy vibe. This series is PERFECT.
This reminds of Hallmark with shifters and magical creatures. ✨️ (thats a big compliment because i love a hallmark movie - or at least the older ones anyway).
Teddy is such an adorable MMC. It is refreshing to see a male character who isnt afraid to show his sensitive side. He is a complete golden retriever and I love it. 🤣
Sophie is such a sassy, stubborn FMC, but not in a bad way. She is still so likable.
I loved seeing the other members of this enchanting little town as well. I read Return to Mooncrest Inn Earlier this year and loved it. Jake plays a big part in this book as well & I loved that.
This book had a lot of sweet and swoony moments, but it also had some action and violence (not too much to be off-putting though). There is a lot of heart in this book and I cannot recommend it enough.
🐺 golden retriever mmc 🧚♀️ sassy, stubborn, rebellious fmc 🐺 found family 🧚♀️ wound tending 🐺 work place romance 🧚♀️ they protect each other 🐺 reverse grumpy/sunshine 🧚♀️ witty banter
This book was an easy 5 stars. I absolutely loved this series.
"You, and only you, are my mate, my hope, and my future. Don't you realize that there will never be anyone else but you?"
I just love this whole series. I had gotten a sneak peek into Sophie and Teddy's love story in the other books, and I was so excited to read their story. This was such a cozy and sweet tale! It made me laugh one minute, cry the next, and then start swooning. It was a fabulous roller-coaster of emotions.
My favorite part was how Teddy patiently pursued Sophie. He was so patient with her! Sophie also had a lot of great character development. She grew so much, and it was easy to root for her.
5/5 stars

*Thank you so much to Toni for the complimentary ARC. All opinions expressed are my own!
Rhyme, Riddle, and Romance begins the Faeries of Door County Series. However, Toni Cabell does something unusual but does it quite nicely, she gives us book one after books 2 and 3 have been published. Sophie is as ecstatic, which is a big deal for this grumpy faerie. She has inherited the Rhyme ’N Riddle Bakeshop which also includes werewolf Teddy. More to opposite creatures could not be found. A delightful fun read full of wit, feelings, and a meeting of the minds for these two while working in close quarters. A lighthearted slow burn romance, this is a story that brighten my day. A well-written clean story that all who enjoy paranormal romance would love, it is highly recommended by me.
Teddy and Sophie had me laughing from the start. The banter is so much fun, and the sparks wow. Talk about opposites. Was her aunt crazy or very clever? This is a book that I just wanted to binge read all the way through. Fairies? check, werewolves? check, vampires? check, even trolls. Clean intense romance. I received an advance copy from the author.
This sweet, cozy, paranormal romance was a great read. I enjoyed getting to know the characters of this small town. Sophie is a faerie and is prone to some magical mishaps. Leslie (our hero) is a werewolf who is lonely, without a pack, and still healing from some past wounds. When Sophie’s great-aunt dies, she leaves a property 90% to Sophie and 10% to a mysterious Leslie with the stipulation that Sophie provide this person with room and board for a year. Naturally, Sophie assumes that this “Leslie” character is female. When these two get together in the same room - sparks fly but not in the romantic sense. Sophie is a bit of a mess and Leslie is a clean freak. There is definitely some humor involved in this read. I also had my first introduction to the nine-tailed fox. When Sophie decides to go out with a bad boy werewolf Rafe, her fated mate status with Leslie causes issues and we get threads of tension and more. Rafe is a bit handsy and possessive and wants what he wants. This book kept me engaged and on my toes and I’m so excited to read more. This is a just kisses romance, intimacy level 2.
I received an eARC of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Well written, fun story. There is a crazy inheritance shared by 2 strangers, one is the person's niece. There is mystery and werewolves fighting for several things. We have faeries and even some gargoyles. Then it turns to romance between the 2 strangers, Sophie and Teddy. How all this happens is in this well written story. I gave it 5 stars and I suggest you do yourself a favor and read it. You'll be glad you did.
It is the first time I read a book by author Toni Cabell. What a great read! I was immediately drawn to the characters and to the enchanting Door County town. Sophie and Teddy’s relationship is hilarious, sassy, swoony, and completely heart warming. This is the third book of the series, but it chronologically antecedes books 1 and 2. Which to me is perfect, because I felt the end was a little rushed, but later found out that we get more details in the actual previous books. Weird, I know! LOL!! I’m super excited to read the rest of the Faeries of Door County series!
Each book in this series just gets better and better! I absolutely loved Sophie, her grumpy personality was so relatable (fellow grumpy sunshine here 😄), and Teddy was pure perfection. Their dynamic pulled me right into the story and kept me smiling the whole way through. Toni Cabell always weaves in such fun, creative details that make her stories feel magical and unique. Her imagination shines through on every page, and this book is no exception. I adored it!
This book is such a cute and cozy romantasy! Teddy is probably my favorite of the author’s MMCs, from his quirky cleaning to his unwavering loyalty. I also really enjoyed seeing all the characters from the series from a different perspective and finally getting to learn more about how Rafe first entered into the picture. Overall, a really fun read!
Rhyme, Riddle, and Romance by Toni Cabell is a supernatural world that takes place in our very common one.
I always find it so cool when authors combine fantasy with contemporary elements. Werewolves as firefighters, vampires as doctors, and faeries as café owners. It always makes me look at the world that I live in now differently. A quaint place to be and a blend of worlds that sometimes I wished we had, this book was a cozy edition of just that. The world that the book took place in was well developed with deep history that didn’t bore one as they read. It was fascinating to look at every detail and see how it all effected the characters.
Both of the characters had their ups and downs in life, and for sure both of them had a huge character development to be had throughout the book. I loved the double POV between both Teddy and Sophie, and I loved the banter and the character interactions. This book was a cozy and fast-paced read. It was an enjoyable one!
If you want a contemporary romantasy this is the one for you!
I was gifted with chance to no only read the e-book but also listen to the audiobook. This is an amazing story! I loved every moment of this paranormal romance with fated mates and grumpy sunshine. I love Toni's books, they are a breathe of fresh air, and the perfect romance books for me.
Lisa Lynn Sandlin knocks it out of Riddle Hill again. I enjoyed her acting of the story and it feels believable and real. And she makes a great grumpy fairy and sunshine werewolf. Lisa also made me cry during a huge twist in the book!
A clean cozy, comforting as a warm fur throw in front of a toasty fire with one’s favorite beverage and pet curled up beside you.
Lo spice but plenty of pining to be had. Love the locale! Love Granny Catbeam!!! Looking forward to reading Cassia’s story and hopefully many more set in this enchanting little village.
What a lovely quick read that I found hard to put down. Great start to a new series for me. What a wonderful supportive community, with loveable quirky characters, but with one villain of course. Look forward to more reads set in Door County.
I have been looking forward to this book for so long, ever since I first read Half a Faerie, and it did NOT disappoint! Though I will say, I feel like I need to go read the rest of Door County again now that I know Teddy and Sophie's story better than the clues you get from the stories in the other books. It had all the swoon, cozy, fantastical feels one would expect from Cabell's Door County series, and as usual, Sandlin did an incredible job narrating!
Easily my favorite installment of the Faeries of Door County series. The balance of romance and gripping emotions is fantastic, I was glued to the page! For parents who are conscious about what their young teens read as far as romance goes, this no spice romance is one I absolutely recommend!
I absolutely adored this book!! I love the banter between grumpy and sunshine. How differences can bring us together, protecting our community and our families. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends!
This quirky, swoony, and somewhat devious fantastical romantic comedy kept me smiling, giggling, and connected to the characters throughout every single page.
Sophie, a faerie with a knack for magical baking, inherits the Rhyme N’ Riddle bakery from her great aunt, and soon realizes that there is a catch, albeit a small one. She must work with Leslie T. Barker, who she believes to a woman who was a companion to her aunt, who owns ten percent of the bakery for at least one year before buying out that ten percent. Sophie is sure that this will be a piece of cake. That is until a handsome, hunky, and fastidiously clean Thor-esque wereeorl turned man walks into the bake shop and insists that he is indeed Leslie T. Barker, known as Teddy, for short. With Teddy focusing too much on how clean (or not clean) her little bake shop and cottage is, to Sophie’s messy yet spunky lifestyle and attitude, the two don’t know if they can work together and get the bakery open in time. Soon complicated feelings surface and an unforeseen villain threatens to not only destroy the bake shop, but seeks to destroy the blossoming love between Teddy and Sophie.
This story had me smiling and kicking my feet the entire time! I loved how Teddy and Sophie’s differences end up being the pieces that bring them together the most. I absolutely recommend this first book in this series and cannot wait to the next one!
Romantic Content: Closed Door, Clean, Attraction/Physical Features Mildly Descriptive
TW: Stalkerish Side Character, Grief, Death of Friend (Alluded To in Past), PTSD
This is one of those books that has thoroughly surprised me with how much I've ended up loving it. And it's yet another proof - at least to me - that a book doesn't have to have spice in it for it to be truly enjoyable.
From the early chapters this book already had my full attention. I was entertained by the main characters right from the start, given how so utterly opposite they were in their personalities. Sophie the faerie was messy and disorganized: Teddy the werewolf was a neat freak. She was grouchy and a bit abrasive (at least in the beginning): he was gentle and mild-mannered. I had truly wondered how they'd eventually get along.
I loved how well the story focused on Teddy's efforts to win Sophie's affection, especially after he found out who she was in his life. It was very much a character-driven story, where we see both Teddy and Sophie grow and change into more fulfilled and actualized versions of themselves. The romance was so heartwarming, too, that I so often found myself uttering "awww..." at certain scenes that melted my heart.
I'm glad I was introduced to the world of Faeries of Door County with this book. It's a magical town with all sorts of supernatural beings happily coexisting in one thriving community with the humans. It's such a quaint and livable town from what I could see, and I can't wait to read the other characters' own stories. There are two more published books in this series (and they're already in my library, yay!), and I can't wait to bump them up in my reading list.
I was granted a free review copy of this book. This review is offered voluntarily.
This is technically book 1 of Faeries of Door County, though it has been published 3rd and will be released September 4th.
🕮 Welcome to, or welcome back to Door County, this book takes us back before Cassia meets Will and before Mona and Jake start anything. In this book we get to know the feisty faerie Sophie as she inherits from her elderly relation auntie Dragonfly. This inheritance is a dream come true as she makes preparations for opening up her own bakery. There is just one catch, she must employ aunties former companion Leslie for one year.
Leslie is better known as Teddy, he is a werewolf without a pack. Miss Dragonfly has been caring for him for a few years now. Teddy is in need of a fresh start and Miss Dragonfly was positive he could get that.
This is technically the first book of Toni’s I have read myself, as all the others I have enjoyed through audio. So it was interesting to have my inner voice read to me rather than Lisa! I can’t express how much I love this series. It has the small town charm feel of Stars Hollow, the fantasy creature mashup giving off Hotel Transylvania vibes, and a beautiful love story.
From the moment I met Teddy I loved his character, his sweetness, his need to clean. Overall he is a good guy, Sophie is a bit on the grumpy side, she is a mess/ or more precise she makes a mess. She doesn’t want to like Leslie from the moment she meets him.
We watch Sophie and Teddy’s relationship slowly grow as an old enemy comes into play.
Rhyme, Riddle and Romance by Toni Cabell is a sweet, clean paranormal romance with a great plot and wonderful worldbuilding. It is a breath of fresh air in the current glut of way-too-spicy PNR books. Toni Cabell really knows how to show the spark without all the spice (kissing and hugging only, with some walking hand in hand for good measure, but it is never too precious due to the tensions between the FMC and MMC).
I loved the two main characters, kitchen fairy Sophie and werewolf Teddy. Turning the grumpy/sunshine trope upside down, Sophie is an organizationally challenged grump. Teddy is a cinnamon roll with a bad case of OCD and PTSD, with a backstory that comes back to haunt him. They had a lot to work through to get to their HEA so the storyline never dragged or was too predictable. The secondary characters are all well drawn and add to the plot, and those living statues and paintings are so great!! I absolutely loved the gargoyles!!
I can’t wait to dive into the author’s backlist. I am so glad I discovered her and heartily recommend this book to any paranormal romance fan!! It was so entertaining!!
I read an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I really enjoy this series, so it's good to be back in Door County, and to get Sophie's story! Also, reading this book now makes me want to read the first two again to see Sophie and Teddy and their earlier appearances.
This story is definitely more sweet-n-swoony, especially given that the MMC is a golden retriever of a male. That's one thing that makes this series great -- each MMC and FMC has a very different personality, so the series has something for everyone!
In classic Toni fashion for this series, this book is a comforting, cozy read that's easy to get sucked into and read in a day. I love her storytelling and humor, and the side characters are so lovable and entertaining that it makes me want to move to Door County. 😄
If sweet, kisses-only, swoony love stories with supernaturals in a charming, Midwest town sounds like something you'd enjoy, I absolutely recommend this series! And hopefully we're getting another book or two in the series. 👀 (hint hint, Toni! 😉)
Thank you, Toni, for the chance to ARC read for you!
