A dead FBI agent found in Paris… A mission the agency can’t touch… Dean Blackwood must become the man he thought he left behind. He must become The Shadow.
The undercover life left FBI Agent Dean Blackwood with a busted knee, an alcohol addiction, and a family that just needs “space.”
All he wants is to see his son and rebuild what he lost.
But when a brutal assassination in Paris matches the signature of a killer Dean thought he buried, his world is upended.
The body of Erik Mason, the infamous “Undertaker,” was never recovered.
First come the letters, addressed to Dean. Then the calling cards scattered across Paris.
Then the bodies start piling up.
Dean didn’t want this fight.
Until the killer made it personal.
A man on the verge of losing his purpose is a dangerous man.
And Dean Blackwood was built for chaos.
Fans of Child, McFadden and Connelly will love Dean Blackwood. This mystery thriller series follows a decorated Special Forces veteran turned undercover FBI agent who delivers relentless action, gripping mysteries, and no-nonsense justice.
Shadow Kill (A Dean Blackwood FBI Mystery Thriller Book 1), my second read from author Sam Jones, an author I'd not heard of before this reading Drive To Kill (A Dean Blackwood FBI Mystery Thriller Book 2). Having read the second book before reading this one I have to say the writing has improved. If you like Lee Child's ack Reacher books you may enjoy this series. “I received a complementary Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author and in this series with Midnight Kill (A Dean Blackwood FBI Mystery Thriller Book 3) the next book in this series already on my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
This book is an excellent read to gain insight into some of the information into what made Dean Blackwood the way he is now. By having him hunt for the man who he is sure he killed years ago , that is supposedly trying to kill him now, we see how the past ops of his career shaped him and basically ruined his life. But we also see how that past and the one constant friend, and the one constant friend he can rely on now have also kept him sane and made him the man he is today. The lengths Dean must go to to stay alive is truly remarkable and exciting to read. (Thanks to the author for an advance copy)
A mystery with lots of action, gunfire and shadows. For an FBI agent who was on a specialized secret task force when it hits the fan it really hits the fan. Only his unique gifts and his imaginary friend to help him solve the puzzle. In a race against time. A hair width ahead of the last bullet. Making up plans on the fly. There are others that will help, but will his wits get him out alive or is this finally the end of Ballistic Blackwood? Not written as a stand alone but so well done it can be read as one. Also once you start you won’t be able to put it down without finding the answers.
This is a great story. I didn't want to put it down. Dean is a well rounded character that has a lot of demons that is working through. This is the first book in this series. I can't wait to read more books in this series.
