Breathtaking. Ms. Kisner's ability to pack depths of emotion, intelligence and pure heart into spare words is astonishing. I started the book intending to read one poem a day, but couldn't. I inhaled the book and then went back to plumb the depths of each entry, what was under the surface, in the categories of: When Death Takes a Child, The Farm, and Inheritance.
Those of you who love the wilderness, especially the rural, wonderful beauty of Appalachia will find that the cultural depth, stillness and love of the earth so prominent among the people of that area steeps through every word of these spare, rich and clear-sighted poems.
