Erick Mertz is an author, born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, a place he is still lucky enough to call his home. He writes a paranormal mystery series, “The Strange Air” , described as “Longmire” meets “The X-Files”, set in the fictional central Oregon town of Whistler’s Grove. In a previous lifetime, while a student at the University of Oregon, he studied English literature and played records late at night on campus radio 88.1 KWVA. After school was finished, he worked in group homes and as a case manager for community based adults with developmental disabilities. This is an area where he continues to work. If he’s not writing, you can probably find him worrying about the Portland Trailblazers, drinking a local beer, or exploring that glorious Pacific Northwest landscape with his wife, Lisa, and son, Elijah.
I had an ARC copy of this book and I have read other books by this author. I found it to be a well developing mystery through the story and found it grabbing more of my attention as I proceeded. My wife was out for the morning so I had some hours to complete the book. It certainly demands a further book please.
As you find yourself getting more and more engrossed with the story, boom! You have to wait for the next installment to follow. Please don't keep me waiting long. I have to know what happens!
You get pulled into the world of Auggie Melville and the ventures that surround his line of work within Canyon County, Oregon. As he works to figure out a mystery with his bestie Gilbert Sandoval. Buckle up, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
The characters, the plot line, and wanting to know more keeps you enthralled with the book from start to finish. The author baits you from the beginning and slowly reels you in throughout each chapter. It's definitely worth the hook.
Looking forward to the next installment and other books this author has to offer. I recommend you do the same. :)
Well this book when all around the world into another dimension!! The cult in the book is so ominous. You can feeling it while reading!! They’ve interacted with people you would have thought untouchable. It’s creepy, scary and spellbinding all at the same time!
I voluntarily received an arc copy of this book and am voluntarily writing this review
Shadow Signals is again one of Erick Mertz’s incredible works of literary paranormal adventure. The story is getting more and more intriguing, more creepy, more mysterious, and more intense as the cult infiltrates Sheriff Auggie Melville’s realm of Canyon County. Mertz has done a great job of referencing back to the previous book in this series and he has left this one in a place that it could potentially be a standalone. Readers would miss some really good stuff if they chose not to delve into this series in its entirety though. If you want a book that fits into the “keep the pages turning” scenario, what is the answer to the mysterious code that cult members are willing to die to protect, and how does Auggie’s family history fit into what is infiltrating Canyon County? The Strange Air Paranormal series is good reading. Shadow Signals is an excellent continuation of the saga. If you want action, mystery, some scary and creepiness, and just an all out good book, this is an awesome choice. I received this book as an ARC in return for an honest review.
The Strange Air series has me very intrigued. There is so much mystery and utter strangness in these books that makes want to read the next one. I wonder what the Cult will be up to next, will have to wait patiently so I can find out more.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
