Fond early childhood memories, this is the simplified version of the Urdu classic, the fantasy epic,Dastan e Amir Hamza. It enthralled countless generations in India,at a time when printed books were rare, and the tradition of oral storytelling was in vogue. The original language is now obsolete, and it is a dauntingly lengthy work. But I enjoyed it in my childhood, thanks to the publishing house Feroze Sons, and writer Maqbool Jahangir, who simplified and condensed it.Tales of heroism, cunning and betrayal. In some ways it is reminiscent of the stories in Arabian Nights. It was fun to revisit this book, which possibly might have been the very first book I ever read.
C. S. Lewis said, "One day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again." I read these books as a boy when I was in school. And reading them again at 53 transported me back in time. I remember I read the fourth part to the class in a free period.
