Max's return to his own world is like a meteor streaking across the sky for everyone to see.

Upon arriving home, he completes multiple tower floors in the tower solo and finds his friends inside, reuniting with them and learning that he has a child on the way with Tanila.

With a slight understanding of the true power out there and the need to help his team get stronger, Max also has a few loose ends that must be tied up.

Add to it a dragon egg that will hatch soon, the fact it's been almost a year since he left home and a worry he has had since the day he got his skill, Max sets his sight on finding those who tried to kill him.

Toss in a dwarven wedding that has been promised and the entire party is about to find themselves rushing around their world non-stop.

loved it

Such a cool series. Wish more overall story progression had occurred but still loved it. Loved the lore and dwarve’s culture. The wedding ceremony was pretty cool with all the unique parts to the ceremony. Really captured the vibe of the culture and drew me into the story. So cool!

meh

While I’ve enjoyed the book series thus far, this book was definitely very dry getting through. Almost a filler book. Nothing of note happens. Sadly you could read the summary of the book and you get the whole book right there. The story comes to a complete halt for reasons that even the main character acknowledges are not smart to do. Constantly left with the question of should he do everything himself or should he bring his friends with him. The answer he continues to come to is to bring his friends along regardless of how much weaker they all are compared to him. In a book series where might makes right and strength is the only reason anyone stays alive it is highly illogical and even against the main characters own beliefs to bring his family everywhere he goes. He knows full well if anyone actually stronger comes around his friends are useless. This was even shown in the book. When an enemy appeared only he could fight against and he had to run away and fight to protect his friends. This was made even more frustrating because, just one chapter prior he decided he needed to bring them with him into the city just in case. In case of what? None of them can help him in anything. Anything any of them can do he can do better. Not only that. Anything they can do, they can only do because of him. I don’t know if the author has difficulty writing a solo character or what? But creating a character so powerful his friends are useless. Defeats the purpose of the friends being brought along the journey. You might as well stick them in the city and have him go on adventures far away to protect them and actually care about a growing threat that Max continues to pretend doesn’t exist.

You know reading this volume feels like it was edited down in such a way references are missing. Like why did Max know the queens hired Ezreal. You could deduce that since the queens kill those who have clear, red, or black skills that they would also hire someone to kill on with a black skill. But it wouldn't be hard to add that deduction. It would also help Max's character. Because he is not smart, he is kinda a dummy. Tanila and Bob do some heavy lifting for him.

Also when Max found out his Sister is pregnant why is he mad? That doesn't really make sense. It's just weird.
Read a little further and now I see since she can't pursue her dream anymore. But it doesn't explain the anger. This is one of the ways I mean when I say Max comes off as a dummy. There are obvious reasons this occurred. Especially when he has done the same thing. He has a whole baby on the way.

Why does Stacy think Caleb just wanted her body? There is literally no indication of that Besides his internal monologue. He said he was coming back the next choosing day to get her and hasn't even had the opportunity to do yet. He is a day late and they're "He never came back" Did the author forget what he wrote? Especially in this world where travel takes forever it would be normal for him to not be there the day of. You know the author is bad at writing drama sometimes. With Caleb and the whole choosing day administratiors thing. Max could have simply asked the queens but for some reason you want to question people lower on the totem pole as if they would know more??? And why didn't he get the Queens to stop this practice. Sure he stopped it in this village but it's still happening across the kingdom. Ok now we know it's because some group has more power than the queen. Why would anyone assume it's anyone other than Phaius. This is where the editing form comes in again so there is no thought process shown to reach these conclusions. You know I just got done with the Tokyo Ghoul series and that author had a story tell so he would just do it even if it didn't make alot of sense or had problems. This feels very reminiscent of that.

I am trying so hard to finish this book. I am 54% through. I want to finish this book so I can leave my review and drop this series.

Ok finished it. Boy that first half was rough. It became much less frustrating to read after 58%. Overall for my personal opinion this was not a good book. Objectively it was mid. I think for casuals it would have been good.

Let's start with the good. The trip home to dwarves was really enjoyable. Tanila red skill becoming legendary is great.

I have alot of gripes though. Let's start with the waypoint and planetary travel. After Max beat Riniya he travels to his city and then back home. How did he get to his city so fast? Did he leave a waypoint there? If so why? Did he foresee using planetary travel outside the city and needing a way to get there after? When Max returned home it seemed very little time had passed. It takes a month for it to reset. You really telling me they sat there for a month? It didn't seem like it.

Next is how Shounen this series is. If you're a casual or generally newer to anime storytelling it wouldn't bother you that much. But for me I have grown watching anime and reading light novels. So when you have a dark world where bad things happen on a regular basis. It's weird to have super soft and compassionate main characters. Like when I saw Tokyo ghoul and Demon Slayer. Those worlds are unforgiving and dark so it is jarring to have such a boy scout, good boy main character. Overtime you expect them to grow. But in this series the mc just gets his hand held into being brutal which I don't like. They have that conversation multiple times and it is one of the driving factors that made me have to take breaks to finish this book.

I am a Bob hater. That man's title may as well be [Divine Guide] because he is the teacher, advisor, friend, strategist that always guides the mc. Max has no thoughts up there.I want my mc to be the one making decisions. Even in other stories like The Travelers gate trilogy where a guide is always present it wasn't this bad. I don't like their constant conversations. And especially the combat. Bob doing half the work when it comes to combat ruins it a lot for me.

Speaking of combat originally this was a hard magic system But over time the author has changed it to a soft magic system since that is easier to write. But if so why does the spells available only seem to consist of walls, lances, and a fire nova? They should be able to do so much more. And what happened to the weapon enchantments, snares, and prisons. It seems only Max does the cool stuff. Which is annoying since Tanila's Elemental Mastery is Legendary too.

Which is a good Segway into my next problem. The reward for beating the last boss. You get a skill rank up point every ten levels. Tanila was fine because her red skill became legendary and Fowl too since he got 2. But they all should have had at least one skill rank legendary. That reward was so bad since they could simply use the crystals they farm to get a legendary rank up. They could have paid gold to do it if they had to. And I hate how the author wrote himself into a corner and his solution is to just ignore it. Somehow Max still has not gotten the healer class. And it leads to situations where he chooses regeneration as his legendary increase. It is optimal but it is boring. Alchemy is so much cooler. Even then why does he not use alchemy. It is epic. Crafting a potion that DOUBLES constitution would do a lot.

Ok rant over. I may or may not drop this series. I am looking forward to a few things but that mc is doing it to me.

This novel got a little long in the tooth. It reads like our author is running out of steam/new ideas, but still want to squeeze a few more books into this series. Max gets stronger, the mobs and bosses get stronger, the strategy is rinse and repeat. Little new is presented. That is one of the pitfalls of the progressive genre.

The continual slow revelation of the actors pulling strings behind the scene was nicely handled, added to the intrigue, and was one of the fresher parts of this novel.

Here's hoping for better mojo in the next novel.

A big part of every litRPG/progression fantasy storyline is when the unexpecting hero returns home. Some call it a gap year, some just call it a filler book, but one thing they all have in common is how bad and boring it always is for the reader when done wrong. I've read incredible series that screw this all up and leave a series on a bad note for a year waiting for a real book to come out afterwards.
This book does this better than the vast majority I've read. Us readers enjoy the progression because we are along with them, so the surprise of early series characters seeing the same progression is fun for us. Even better when all the promises from book one and two are upheld in book seven. All this is done here, and along with that the series plot is sprinkled in throughout all the visits to give the same feeling of progression which is expected.
Though this cannot compare to book six which was by far the best in the series, it is a solid one that I enjoyed. With the way Max worked out his issues with his black skill I have trust in the author to work out the issues other characters may have popping up with theirs, and that makes me look forward to the future books.
It even had another good ending which is refreshing to see in this genre.

Not nearly as good as the last book. Basically a filler, but we do advance some of the plots while doing a nostalgia tour that ends in a wedding.

I’m still not a fan of the out of context English-language jokes. Not a fan of the rare fourth wall break. Not a fan of the constant hashing and rehashing on MCs feeling about killing bad guys. Ironically one of the characters in the numerous conversations about this, both external and internal, says this to MC: “Nothing is worse than second guessing every decision you make.”

First, lots of things are worse. This sentence doesn’t even make basic sense. And second, yes, something is worse than that, constantly rehashing this issue over SEVEN books!

Honestly at this point the repetitive jokes between MC and his team and this constant need for the author to make us not see his murder hobo MC as a murder hobo, it just feels like trying to elevate the word count for what are already short books.

This series is pretty good, all that aside. Not great but good.

I’ve really enjoyed this series and its story, but it really struck home in this last book how much waffle there is. Pages of stats, followed by pages of explanations on the stats. I feel like footnotes would be a great way of preventing waffle and stats fatigue. At times it feels less like a novel than reading someone’s technical notes on theorycrafting a game.

I remember reading a review for another book where the reviewer spoke about authors intentionally using pages of stats to bulk up their page count. I’d like to think this isn’t the case here, but at times the cynic in me is unsure. The most egregious example in this book is all of the stats text that is struck out to be replaced with updated information – surely there is a more concise way of doing this.

This one is sweet. Max deepening his relationship with pretty much the entire party is very heartwarming. The wedding and the egg are the two biggest events and I was happy with their conclusion.

This book did feel like filler at times. But when that filler comes with good character development, I can't be mad at it. I liked the scenes with little progression, as the characters haven't yet had a break since everything set off. Not to mentions the horrors Max had to go through to get back to his party.

Still, it was enjoyable. There seems to be a formula with these books, where every other book is either a set-up for some explosive action or the explosive action itself. If the author continues to follow that trend, then I'm excited to see what the next book holds!

The author seems to have taken prior criticism to heart. The tower battles are now much tighter, focusing on lessons, loot, and skill-ups. Unfortunately, the non-tower elements are less than exciting.

The dwarven wedding was intended as the big draw, propelling the reader forward. For me at least, it was the opposite. "Good news Son! We've got tapioca pudding for desert. Now finish your broccoli." When the big day arrived, I skipped over the bulk of it.

There are some big battles on the horizon, so I'm still invested, but enough with the back-patting and impressing the yokels.

Loose ends

I love this series but you're going to have a hard time believing it after this review. The purpose of this entire book was to finish all the loose ends. Some exciting things happened and there were clues and hints to advance the story but at the end of the day the purpose of this particular book was just to tie up all the loose ends. Still an enjoyable read but really left me wanting

Crosses some t's and dots some i's built up over the series, including long gestating ones. Has some major developments and wonderfully wholesome character moments.

If you are someone reading this after stopping around book 4 or 5, I think you would enjoy binging to get to this point as 6 and 7 have been a breath of fresh air. This book also sets some things in motion for the next phase of the series.

Awesome

I am waiting for the sequel, the story has so many plots and twists. Love to go see his bondmate grow and if he gets married and what is his child going to be like and will there be twins? Then bring in the other world and that is a whole series within itself. Him being able to travel to other planets just open s up so many different story arcs. Please keep up the amazing work you have been doing so well.

Another Excellent Entry

Another great entry in Max’s story. The only thing I had a bone to pick with is how Max is always like, “I must allow my friends to grow strong so they can keep up” and then finds every excuse to do everything for them and they are all, “whew thanks bro we didn’t want to put in any work anyway”. Anyway, that gripe aside the story was engaging and I cranked through it. Excited for the next!

Oof, realllly bad writing

Not sure if the author edited this one at all. the writing is atrocious.

"The amount of sweat that covered her in a room that seemed to adjust to the temperature in his mind was pleasant, and while no breeze was present, her body had poured out buckets of liquid."

Context: the main character is glad someone is afraid.

There's a lot more plot in this one, which is great, but by gods the writing is bad.

Ultimate LitRPG Adventure Series

The adventures of Max Hoste and his family continues unabated. Max has grown strong, but stronger characters persist in the periphery, uneven stronger gods continued to monitor him from a distance. Max continues to make new friends. The Dwarves finally get married and I’m looking forward to the next adventure as Max and his team continued to climb the tower and get stronger.

More delving, fighting, crafting and then family drama

The MC and his symbiote Bob continue to grow, yet powerful forces are against them. Turns out that the elven goddess is harvesting mana from humans and is seriously warped. Even other gods didnt realize how wacked she'd become. Max, the MC exposed her schemes to the other gods. Meanwhile, he gained a new draconic companion and after a dwarven wedding, they all plan a trip offworld.

Just crazy!

A very fun read

Despite the occasional spelling and grammatical errors, the author did a great job of progressing the story and continues to tell this myth in the making.

Stat discussion feels helpful and not overdone, the characters all have delightfully unique personalities (though it would be nice to have more development of their 5th team member).

With how crazy the team’s power has grown, I’m interested to see how it develops further from here.

The story slowed down and had some really great personal moments (returning home, etc.). But I really disagree with the author's continued hammering on the point that the only way to be a leader is to make people fear you. That's not how real leadership works and it actually leads to oversimple story solutions (just smash everything and scare them). However, the characters are still super engaging and I'm looking forward to seeing the story pick back up in the next book.

Satisfying! The halfway point

This book comes across as the one where we finally manage to tie up a lot of loose ends and break free from most chackles.

It doesn't feature a lot of "power" growth, but still plenty of other growth and new plot hooks.

I enjoyed this one a lot and am looking forward to the next one!

Thank you Shawn Wilson!

Happy ending...but...

Kind of a bridging book, has a nice happy ending, but the entire book kind of built to the ending and didn't really have a ton of substance. Glad for the ending, and it was fun! But probably could have had a little more dramatic tension and plot resolution and less build for one event. Still entertaining and I look forward to the next book.

Wish fulfillment, inconsistent characters and motivations, lack of nuance, repetitive jokes, the rules of the world changing to meet the protagonist's needs, meaningless stakes, and no conflict that lasts more than a chapter are dragging down a story that has a great moral heart.

4.5 stars. It spent a bit more time in slice-of-life stuff than I really wanted, but overall quite good. Some things were resolved, but just as many are still around/have popped up. Stopped in a good spot without a nasty cliffhanger, so now we wait for the next one.

It was fun reading about the new world, but good to be back together with the party. Meeting the dwarves was great fun and Max even got to show off his crafting skills.

Well, there's an aweful lot of politics in this one, which for me, doesn't really make for much of a good story, but even with that, it's still quite the interesting story, and still has plenty of things happening which definitely makes me want to read more in the series.

Max as always is OP. This story goes a lot of places including to a dwarven wedding but it doesn’t feel like anything really happened. Which is odd because a ton happened.
