New York Times bestselling and award winning authors Allison Brennan and Laura Griffin team up for their second book featuring the unforgettable Southern California detective duo, Moreno & Hart.

HIT AND RUN

Danger comes from all sides as private investigators Scarlet Moreno and Krista Hart tackle two new cases.

HIT...

Scarlet Moreno gets a panicked call from long-time friend Jason Jones, an LAPD street cop wanted for killing his girlfriend. Paranoid with no one to trust, he reaches out to Scarlet for help. Before they can figure out who set him up, a SWAT team descends, Jason runs, and Scarlet is left with questions she can't answer when the police show up. She’s determined to prove Jason innocent, but the cops want him behind bars and someone else wants him dead. As Scarlet digs deeper into the murky case, she realizes that whoever is framing Jason wants her dead, too--and it might connect to the ambush that nearly killed her and Krista three years ago.

and RUN...

Krista Hart doesn’t want to team up with rival private detective R.J. Flynn. And she definitely doesn’t want to help an unscrupulous trial lawyer get away with murder. But when R.J. pulls her into his latest high-profile case, Krista realizes that nothing about the murder of a beautiful Laguna Beach housewife is quite what it seems. Krista sets out to uncover the truth--no matter whose side it helps--and manages to provoke all the wrong people, including a vicious murderer who won’t hesitate to kill again and then make a run.

Hit and Run
4 Stars

Former LAPD officers Scarlet Moreno and Krista Hart are now partners in their own PI firm. In their latest cases, Scarlet comes to the aid of an old friend when someone makes an attempt on his life, and Krista looks into the alibi of a sleazy husband accused of killing his wife.

Once again, this is a collaboration between authors Allison Brennan and Laura Griffin and the two authors play to their strengths with Brennan's being the suspense and Griffin's the romance.

Brennan's short story advances the ongoing ambush storyline from Scarlet and Krista's past and in doing so there is a great deal of tension and action. In contrast, Griffin's tale is more of a standalone and focuses more on the forensic aspects of a murder investigation. In terms of the romance, Griffin has the edge as Alex and Scarlet lack the chemistry and emotional intensity of Krista and R.J.'s love/hate relationship.

Notwithstanding the above, both stories are engaging with likable characters and I will be continuing the series even though novellas are not my usual fare.

“Hit and Run” is an action packed thriller that gives readers a look at what PI's do every day. It is also a well written story about two women dealing with a traumatic event in their past. When they were detectives for LAPD, they were ambushed and left for dead. That event bonded Scarlet Moreno and Krista Hart together they open their private investigation agency with a goal to find justice for the underdog.

In addition to creating two strong protagonist, they created great support characters who help broaden and enhance their investigative skills and provide a look at Moreno and Hart’s personal lives. Readers will become addicted to this series as it offers mystery, suspense, humor, and a little bit of romance. Brennan and Griffen have combined their creative writing skills to deliver a great new mystery and suspense series. I look for this series to be around for a long time.

Allison Brennan has become one of my favourite authors!

This was a great read - two different stories but joined by a partnership. Ms Brennan writes the Scarlet Moreno story (Hit) and Laura Griffin writes the Krista Hart story (Run) - great combo!

Lots of action right from the get go. Bad cops and good cops are what this book is about. I read these out of order though, but I don't think it matters - meaning I should have read Crash and Burn first, then Hit and Run.

The main characters have their own Private Investigator business, which isn't doing as well as they hoped - they both left the police force for very good reasons, and which you find out about fairly early in the story. They both have love interests although Krista is keeping her distance from the strong attraction she feels towards another PI, who is doing extremely well with his business.

Two thumbs up and 4 solid stars (probably should be 5 stars), and highly recommended to all!

Great news for you, the wait is over for the next installment in this series is here. With the two private investigators Scarlet Moreno, and Krista Hart they have taken on two new cases. The one case that Scarlet, start off with is doing a favor for a friend. Jason Jones is a longtime friend who is with the LAPD, and also wanted for killing his girlfriend. The only person that he can trust is Scarlet, to help him prove that he is being set up, because he is innocent. They have a few problems in proving he is innocent of this crime, and one of them is that the LAPD really want him behind bars. The other one is whoever is framing Jason wants him dead, and she believes that they also want her dead, too. Everything points to a possible connect to the ambush that nearly killed her, and Krista Hart three years before.

Than we have Krista Hart, being team up with a rival private detective R.J. Flynn, on another case. This case is more than meet the eye. Krista realizes that nothing about the murder of a beautiful Laguna Beach housewife is not quite what it seems. Krista sets out to uncover the truth--no matter whose side it helps.

I would have to say that I really enjoyed this Moreno & Hart series. Especially when you have two authors, with their caliber of talents Allison Brennan and Laura Griffin teaming up again in their second book that featuring the detective duo, and Moreno & Hart. This is a must read, and if you didn’t read their first one Crash and Burn, you need to also pick that one also. If you are a fan of mystery, and suspense with a touch of thriller, than this is just the book for you.

Two different heroines but joined in the same story. As with Crash and Burn, Ms Brennan writes the Scarlet Moreno story (Hit) and Laura Griffin writes the Krista Hart story (Run). It threw me a bit moving from one author to another, but with the two characters having different POV's, it works. Great action, good cops and bad cops!

The Moreno & Hart Mystery Series is a brilliant and unique collaborative endeavor by the imitable Allison Brennan and Laura Griffin. Three years ago, LAPD Detective Scarlet Moreno and her rookie partner Krista Hart were ambushed resulting in severe injuries to Scarlet. Convinced that someone in the department was out to kill her, Scarlet and Kristin leave the LAPD. Having become close friends after the ambush, they become private investigators opening their own agency, Moreno & Hart Investigations in nearby Orange County.

Hit and Run is the second book in the series, which has Scarlet Moreno, written by Allison Brennan, assisting a childhood friend, Jason Jones, an officer with the LAPD. He is on the run convinced that someone in the department is trying to kill him. His girlfriend, Gina, also had been on the force and has been murdered. He believes a dirty cop is trying to frame him for Gina’s murder.

Jason contacts Scarlet because he cannot trust anyone in the department. Scarlet, a cop at heart jumps in to help him. Scarlet is tough, loyal, and not afraid of offending anyone. Scarlet finds herself, among other things, in the middle of a SWAT raid and a shootout. When Scarlet bends the rules to help Jason, law enforcement is less than happy. Newport Beach Detective Alex Bishop, and Scarlet’s love interest, has her back. Eventually, she works with law enforcement to solve Jason’s case. However, Jason’s case further supports Scarlet’s belief that someone in the department wanted her dead. She becomes even more determined to find out who and why.

Scarlet and Krista assist in each other’s cases and remain in constant contact personally and professionally. However, each protagonist primarily handles her own cases.

Krista Hart, written by Laura Griffin, tends to worry about keeping the agency financially afloat, which is not easy when you handle domestic and other small cases sent to female private investigators. Krista desperately wants to land a big client so Moreno & Hart can handle criminal cases as they did when they were on the force. Standing in her way is her rival and potential love interest, R.J. Flynn, a handsome, very good but slightly sleazy P.I. He works for the biggest criminal defense attorney in the area, Drake Walker, and makes three times what Krista would make on the same case.

In Hit and Run, R.J. needs Krista’s help to prove a non-reputable client, Ron Holland, is innocent of the murder of his wife. Krista is strong, smart, and ethical. She is reluctant to become involved unless she believes that he may be innocent. Krista agrees to work for R.J. on her terms, which means significant money for Moreno & Hart and no “female” work such as acting as a “decoy.” Scarlet does not like R.J., but respects her partner’s decision to take the case.

Krista and R.J. are facing a three-week deadline before Holland’s trial is to begin and, accordingly, the action never stops until the case is solved.

There is sufficient suspense, betrayal, and twists in Hit and Run to keep the reader captivated.

Allison Brennan and Laura Griffin once again deliver a well-written book that will have you hooked from the first page. I finished Hit and Run in one day.

I highly recommend Hit and Run. I also unequivocally recommend Crash and Burn, the first book in in the Moreno & Hart Mystery Series.

I received a complimentary copy of Hit and Run in exchange for an honest review.

Another great installment in the Moreno & Hart Mysteries.

Allison Brennan’s story has Scarlet Moreno working a case that is eerily close to what happened to her three years ago. When her childhood friend, LAPD officer Jason Jones, calls her and says someone is trying to kill him and he doesn’t think he can trust the police to help, Scarlet waste no time in helping him but soon finds herself also a target and finds certain things being reminiscent of the betrayal she went through when she was on the force and shot. This was a pretty intense story from beginning to end with Scarlet getting some more clues as to what happened to her but yet still nowhere near close to finding out the truth. Her relationship with Detective Alex Bishop has moved into the bedroom but Scarlet is still keeping an emotion distance due to her past. I hope in future books she is able to work on her issues and finally get the answers she been looking for as to what happened three years ago.

For Laura’s Griffins part P.I R.J. Flynn pulls Krista Hart into a case he is working on that turns out to be more than what any of them thought it would be. Krista still doesn’t trust R.J but Moreno & Hart needs the money that he gives her as a retainer. What she thought was a clear case of a husband killing his wife turns out to be much more complex as she starts digging into and re-interviewing witnesses and following her gut. I still don’t know what to make of R.J. Yes he’s handsome but I don’t think we’ve seen all his layers yet and I agree with Krista about being leery of jumping into a relationship with him before he shows more of those layers.

All in all both stories were great. I’ve really come to like both of these strong willed women who are doing their best to survive in a man’s world. Cant wait for the next installment in the series.

Hit and Run is the second full-length novel in Allison Brennan and Laura Griffin’s Moreno and Hart collaboration. Like the first installment, it is really two separate novellas structured around the same set of characters. While the stories somewhat build on each other, they can be read completely stand-alone. Brennan’s story focuses on Scarlet’s continuing hunt to find-out who shot her three years ago. Hit provides some significant information in the case and leads directly into Lost and Found the latest installment. Run, Krista’s story, has less of an impact on the overarching story and really moves the Moreno and Hart efforts forward. It also provides some together time for Krista and RJ Flynn, the sexy PI she’s been trying to avoid. Both stories are well-written, fast reads. I really like the characters these authors have created and look forward to more of their collaboration. If you haven’t read the first in the series go back and start at the beginning. You need the backstory to keep everything straight.

Brennan and Griffin are a team of Masterminds...few can surpass what these ladies bring to the table...Well...Accept maybe Moreno and Hart!

HIT AND RUN will keep you on the seat of your pants with two fast paced, mind-twisting stories with just enough romance to have you begging for More!

Moreno and Hart have become two of my favorite leading ladies in the Romance Suspense genre, and Griffin and Brennen are just on the mark with the story lines, the secondary characters, the plot twists, and the hints of what's to come in the next of the series.

HIT AND RUN is NOT to be missed!!

(I read half and listened to the other half in audio, both were fabulous)

3.75 stars... wasn't quite as good as book one in the series but that's pretty typical. I would have loved a bit longer story and for both of the FMC to work together in more scenes for both stories. I get it, this is a dual author book and each author gets each Female character but I would love more interaction. I also love the connections that the characters are making with the male love interests but would also love a little more about their story. I guess if the books were longer, there would be space to do this. The narrators are excellent and now I'm bummed that the next 2 books in the series won't have the audio narration. Still, it's a good series.

I have read most of what Allison Brennan has written and I see so many shades of these two FMC in future female characters that she has started other series with. Particularly Kara Quinn. The newest female lead Margo Angelhart also features a lot of these characteristics and that's what draws me to her stories. Her female characters are bold, empowered and don't let men dictate their strengths or weaknesses. I love that they are badass women.

Hard to rate, as this is two novellas disguised as one book. Novellas are not my thing. They always seem like mere story outlines by an author who has an idea, but is either too lazy to develop it fully, is behind on a deadline and has to finish in a hurry, or ran out of ideas after a few chapters. Both these stories have potential, but are rushed, especially at the end.

As well, there are lots of hanging threads and editing faux-pas that are usually better handled in a full novel. In rushing to get these novellas to press, story lines are dropped, characters appear and disappear to no appreciable purpose, and injuries are sustained and disappear within moments.

Bigger cases

Moreno and Hart are still working to grow their company and now they have some bigger cases. Scarlet is maybe closer to finding out who tried to kill her and Hart and also helping stop more corrupt cops. Her story is full of action, humor and intrigue. Hart is on a new case that has her all over the place as the attorney and client are icky. Her romance is somewhat heating up, but also full of potential problems as RJ is not trustworthy so far and her feelings show distrust. The ending was unexpected and well done. A great second book and I like seeing two stories in one as both have strong characters and flow together easily!

Again I liked the Moreno story the best of the two (a 4), although the Hart story was absorbing enough. I like this series - the stories are absorbing enough and with pretty strong women detectives, and not focused on w0men as victims. This was the last audiobook though, so I will need to read in the old fashioned way to read the next one …

This is Book 2 of the Moreno & Hart series by two of my favorite authors, Laura Griffin and Allison Brennan. It has been on my radar since Book 1, Crash and Burn, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. Scarlet Moreno, whose segments are written by Ms. Brennan, and Krista Hart, written by Ms. Griffin, are partners in their fledgling PI business after serving together as police officers. Three years ago, Scarlet was nearly killed in an ambush that she believes was a set up by someone in the PD. If it weren’t for her rookie partner, Krista, she would be dead. Because nothing was ever proven, and in order to stay alive, Scarlet left the PD and together, they formed Moreno & Hart Investigations.

HIT
Scarlet gets a call from family friend and LAPD cop, Jason Jones, asking for her help. He sounds scared telling her that someone killed his cop girlfriend and tried to kill him. He tells Scarlet he knows he was set up and she is the only one he can trust. As he starts to tell her what happened, she realizes this is eerily similar to what happened to her three years before. Could this be related to her own attack? Will she become a target again if she helps Jason and starts digging into the possibility of dirty cops?

HIT does not disappoint. It is a real page turner with a lot of action, a little romance and a touch of humor in typical Allison Brennan fashion.

RUN
Krista Hart knows she should stay away from her nemesis RJ Flynn. RJ, a highly paid, highly arrogant investigator for a well-known defense attorney, is the typical tall, dark and handsome. And he drives a black Porsche. Krista does not want or need the attraction that seems to levitate between them. When he calls her to ask her to help out on a case, his playful cockiness shows:

“Hi.”
“You have plans tonight?” RJ asked her.
“Why?”
“I need your boobs.”
She hung up and got back to Mrs. Ruman.

Strapped for money, RJ’s offer is one Krista cannot pass up. When the beautiful soon-to-be ex-wife of a shifty defense lawyer turns up dead, the assumption is that her husband is the murderer. However, the deeper Krista gets into her investigation, the more things don’t add up. As she gets closer to the truth she finds someone is trying to kill her, too.

RUN is another exciting Laura Griffin book loaded with suspense, action and that touch of humor, as well.

Scarlet Moreno and Krista Hart are both strong, smart women but they are far from flawless. They are extremely likeable characters, as well as each of their love interests. I’m hoping to get to know Alex and RJ a little better in the upcoming books.

Although Hit and Run intertwine, they are separate stories and conclude within the book. They are both somewhat of cliffhangers in that they remind me of a television series where each week there is a story with a beginning and an ending, but the next week brings new adventures for those same characters. I wish it weren’t so, but unfortunately, I will have to wait longer than a week for the next installment.

Hit and Run can be read as a stand alone, but I would suggest starting with Crash and Burn to get to know the characters and their backgrounds. If romantic suspense is what you like, then this series is not to be missed.

I received a complimentary copy from author Laura Griffin in return for an honest review.

I have had the pleasure of reading quite a few books by the talented Laura Griffin and I always enjoy her work. This is the first chance I have had to read any by Allison Brennan. I found they both created intriguing story lines in Hit and Run with a great suspense and drama.

In Hit, Scarlet Moreno finds herself in the middle of a dangerous mess involving her friend Jason Jones. When Jason is charged with his girlfriend's murder, Scarlet sets out to clear his name as well as figure out what really happened to his girlfriend. Scarlet finds herself in the middle of a SWAT raid, a dangerous shoot out, and plenty more dramatic situations that kept me turning pages quickly. There are a lot of twists and turns in this story and a lot of mysteries are uncovered. I really enjoyed the Hit part of this wonderful book.

In Run, Krista Hart finds herself in a situation that is too profitable to turn down. She doesn't exactly like the client she is working for but she likes the cash behind the case. So she does what she does best. She starts digging around to find out more information on the case. Krista finds herself in some dangerous situations as well and there were a few moments of humor. Krista is working with fellow but rival detective R.J. Flynn. There is some romantic tension between these two that adds to the story as well.

I have to say I enjoyed both Hit and Run and found this book to be a great suspenseful read that kept me glued to the edge of my seat. If you enjoy a great mystery then I think you will enjoy this series. If you haven't read the first book in this series, you won't have any problem reading this as a stand alone. I hope Allison Brennan and Laura Griffin add to this great series. I can't wait to see what more they might have in store for Scarlet and Krista.

I always look forward to new releases by Laura Griffin and can not wait to read what ever she has out next. Now that I have had a taste of Allison Brennan's work I would like to read more of her work. I have a feeling I have been missing out on some great suspenseful stories.

I was given the opportunity to read this story so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Hit and Run.

Hit-Scarlet Moreno is on a case to prove her friend's innocence. An officer was shot and killed because she had incriminating evidence on a big political guy. There was another officer who was involved. Anyway, the murdered officer went to Scarlet's friend, Jason, for assistance and snagging the criminal. Jason had important information he didn't even know he had, so he called Scarlet to come give him a hand. Scarlet gave him directions to a safe house, which he went to. She met up with his there later, where they were almost shot and burned alive. The next day, the case heats up, and Scarlet has to go to a Cop fundraiser to confront the guy they're after, but before she can even get there, she gets captured, until her brother shows up, and the bad guys get arrested. It seems like a choppy review as I write this, but I haven't read anything in a while.

Run-Krista Hart is asked to help investigate a lawyer who might have killed his wife. But his alibi is weak, and she doesn't think he did it. Her "sometime boyfriend" asks her to help, and she makes a few connections along the way. Aside from almost getting run over and shot at, she makes a connection that the woman who was killed is related to another murder that happened years ago. Two wives of lawyers, both having an affair, along with their husbands. Trying to put the marriages back together. Turns out the murderer just wanted the wives out of the way, so she could have the husbands all to herself. Again, a choppy review, but it's been awhile. Can't wait for the next Allison Brennan book, and Laura Griffin is on my reading list.

I've always loved Laura Griffin, especially her Tracer series. I had never read Allison Brennan until the two collaborated on Crash and Burn. I enjoyed it so much I couldn't wait for the next one. I wasn't disappointed. While there is some interaction between the two heroines, Scarlet and Krista, the book is divided into two parts. In Hit, Scarlet is working to help clear a friend of a murder charge. In Run, Krista finds herself once again entangled with R. J. Flynn, an investigator who stole a case from her and bagged the fee. They end up working to find a woman's killer. Both have plenty of action, suspense, and romance to keep you turning the pages. I love the characters and the way the book showcases the authors' talents. I hope this series continues. Would like to learn more about the private investigators/friends, this love interests, and of course watch them once again get embroiled in a good case. I read this in a day!

This is the second in the Moreno & Hart (female) detective series by Laura Griffin and Allison Brennan. Very easy reading. Again, the book is broken into two stories, each story about cases with each detective, although their lives do intertwine and they help each other often. They co-own a private detective agency and have just started their own agency after being police officers three years earlier. There's a history about what happened three years ago but we don't know all the details yet, except that Scarlet Moreno and Krista Hart left the police force and started their detective agency. This is easy listening and distracted me "from exercising" during my walks. They are good friends who back each other and have similar love interests with a new business beginning to grow. Just a feel good read.

This is book 2 in the Moreno & Hart Mystery Series co-written by Allison Brennan and Laura Griffin. I am a fan of both Ms. Griffin’s Tracer series and Ms. Brennan’s Lucy Kincaid series. I love that they have collaborated to create this female private investigator series. The book is actually 2 separate stores revolving around each character, but they do interact with each other in their individual stories. They have very different personalities and I love how they support each other. The secondary characters are equally engaging. There is an element of romance for both women and some humor, but the action/suspense is “hold your breath” exciting. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes strong, independent, smart female characters.
