Um. Time Travel baddies go to parallel words and overwrite their own timelines. Here time basically becomes a medium, their future selves end up knowingly influencing their past selves, smaller timelines loop over larger ones, characters get entangled with previous versions of themselves, etc. It's very smartly written. By no means is it perfect, I heavily dislike how it makes generalized comments about gay and straight men, and bioessentialist views on gender. Nevertheless, those, by large, don't overwrite the brilliance of this novel, its still worth a read. It is worth analyzing in depth. If one were to make a timelime mapping all the events of this novel, it would be mind-bogglingly complicated, but there are very little, if any, plot holes. The novel's biggest strength is the plot. They are no virtuoso in writing but the concept and execution of the plot is a feat in itself.

Give me actual science and philosophical theories, time travels and gay people, and my depression is cured.
Jokes aside, thanks to randomly stumbling upon this novel back in 2022, I've slowly dipped my fingers into the vast world of sci-fi novels, which has then picked my curiosity about hard sci-fi... And now I'm addicted to the genre. I had to come back for a reread of what is now a nostalgic book with a special place in my heart.
So thank you, Wei Feng Ji Xu, and many thanks to your queer-loving big brain.
