This is the fourth book I have read by this author. I have also read 'Comatose', 'The Woman Who Knew Faces' and 'Three Little Girls' which are all in the 'Karen Thorpe' series which I would highly recommend!!
This novel consists of 42 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
Jane has done it again!!! Love, love LOVED this book. Wow!!! What an absolutely unique storyline that I just could not put down!!! Clear your schedules before you pick this up!!
The descriptions are extremely vivid which completely set the scene for me and really made me feel like I was in the storyline. The cover, title and synopsis suit the plot perfectly.
I absolutely loved this fantastic page turning thriller where you have no idea who to trust!!! I had absolutely NO idea what was going to happen next and OMFG that ending!!! Just WOW!!! I never in a million years seen any of it coming at all!!! I have read hundreds of crime books and thrillers so to find a book with a unique storyline and one which absolutely shocked me with its Twists, turns and explosive ending is definitely not an easy feat but Jane managed to absolutely blow my mind!!! An absolutely MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS Jane on managing that one!!!
The storyline is extremely fast paced and will keep you flipping the pages until you've finished. There is constantly something happening that will have you questioning the characters and even yourself time and time again!!! There were so many times I thought I had worked out what was going on just to have Jane wipe the smug look off my face, well, I just lost count in the end!!! It is a very rare event for me to admit I was wrong but in this case I actually will!!! It is absolutely ram packed with tension, twists, secrets, deceits, suspense and so many shockers which I did not suspect at all!!! I was kept on the edge of my seat, and then later my bed, while reading this and I just could not put it down until I had finished at 2am!!! I promised myself time and time again I would just finish the chapter then go to sleep but each and every time something happened and there was no chance of me putting it doen!! I think this would make an absolutely fantastic movie and I'm looking forward to reading Jane's future books!! The characters are pure unlikeable which normally puts me straight off a book. I mean one of them I point blank hates but Jane managed to captivate my attention whilst hating the characters which is not an easy thing to do at all!!! They were all strong and realistic and I must admit I was very pleased with some of the outcomes!!! I won't say more than that as I don't want to spoil it for future readers but I will say if you love a book with a mega twist(s) then seriously grab your copy today. I can guarantee you won't regret it!!!
An absolutely unputdownable page turner that will suck you in from the first until the last pages!!
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO JANE ON YET ANOTHER ABSOLUTELY PAGE TURNING AND EXPLOSIVE BOOK!! THIS IS WHY YOU ARE IN MY FAVOURITE AUTHOR LIST AND HERE'S TO YOUR NEXT SUCCESS 🥂!!!

I always love reading and reviewing works by Jane Badrock. Her talents range from police procedurals, some with paranormal elements to more domestic psychological thrillers, which describes her most recent work Sincere Deceit. Knowing the author, I knew just to grab on and hold on, as I didn’t have much chance of seeing the ending coming until she wanted me to see it. Another excellent work by this author.
I was provided an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Michael & Francis fall in love. Then…. Well this kept me involved and reading and wondering what was next. So many people have secrets and when they start to leak. Oh my. A great read and a page turner from Jane Badrock.
Well my goodness, what a read. A well written storyline that grabbed me from the start and didn’t let go till the very end. To start with I was torn with my sympathies, sometimes I felt sorry for Michael and then other times I felt sorry for Frances. I won’t write about the storyline as I feel it’s the job of a blurb, to peak your interest and draw you in. But I will say a bloody great read that had me guessing till the end, really did not see that coming.
Sincere deceit by Jane Badrock. Michael's got everything he ever wanted, but in a world which turns in a flash, can he hold on to it? Really enjoyable read. Twisted and creepy. Loved it. 5*.
I’ll admit it! I wasn’t at all sure about this book when I started it as I found myself having little empathy with any of the main characters. But I think this was the point. They really aren’t likeable characters but why is that? What made them the way they are? The main character is Michael, a high flying investment manager, whose morals are questionable at best. Frances is a colleague who is determined to stop his womanising, she wants him for herself!
Briefly, Michael falls hard and they are soon married, living in his family home and having a child. But this brings back unhappy memories and Michael is haunted by something that happened as a child and his work life suffers.
Watching Michael’s life collapse around him was actually a bit sad, despite my feelings about his character, and who to trust? Some brilliant twists and turns kept me guessing until the end. And what a shocking ending! A high tension psychological thriller that’s going to keep you on your toes! 4.5⭐️
A standalone psychological thriller is the latest book by Jane Badrock. I hold my hands up before I start and will state now, I love Jane's writing. Sincere Deceit was a book I had no clue about when I began reading. I hadn't read the blurb and only seen the cover. I really crossed my fingers that I would enjoy this book as much as her other ones.
Michael Greaves is a man who has it all. He is a charismatic charmer at the top of his game. He has a successful career and is close to his work colleagues too. He doesn't want tying down at all. He is the womaniser to beat all womaniser...and then Frances arrives in his life. He falls, and falls hard. The man who would have run away if someone had mentioned marriage and kids suddenly finds himself exactly that! They even move back into his old family home. Frances announces she is pregnant and things go downhill from there.
Jane Badrock has so skilfully woven a tale of the unravelling of one man's psyche. As I started this book I didn't like Michael, his values or anything about him. Then, as the story slowly unfolded I realised he was such an unreliable character too. Although, I must say I didn't know who I could trust. I was constantly questioning everyone's motivations.
I have to say the twists and red herrings had me convinced one way, then the other. I didn't know what to think at one point. I did have ideas but, seriously, when it all came tumbling out it was a shocker in a few ways. I was gobsmacked!
This is a page turner for sure. I read it so fast. I read one chapter one evening, then picked it back up the day after and sped through it that same day. I was so wrapped up in Michael's world I just had to see how it would pan out! Well done Jane on another brilliant book! Keep on writing. Well done Jane! Keep on writing!
Michael has everything then meets Frances and they quickly marry and had a baby but things are not how they seem for both of them and you just don't know who to believe as your view changes throughout the book with lots of twists and an unexpected ending. Well worth reading. Thanks to Jane for the ARC
I've loved everything that I'd read previously by the enormously talented Jane Badrock and Sincere Deceit was no exception.
Michael Greaves has it all, handsome, charismatic, a successful career and a close group of work colleagues. He believes in working hard and playing harder, he's a confirmed womaniser ~ that is until he meets the enigmatic Frances. After a whirlwind romance they're married with a baby on the way and Michael finds himself preparing to move back into his childhood home, which Frances fell in love with and takes it upon herself to modernise. But Frances changes once she falls pregnant~ and suddenly everything starts to fall apart.
What follows is an unravelling of Michael's psyche, when everything he think he knows and thinks he controls slowly falls away. I truly lost track of the number of times I gasped as each secret was revealed, and as much as I wasn't a huge fan of Michael at the beginning of the book, I did feel sorry for him at times. When I thought there could be no more revelations or WTF moments, the author dropped the curveball of all curveballs, and I was left staring at my Kindle screen in total disbelief.
A wonderful book of intrigue, mystery and suspense. I was not only a reader of this book, I was also a detective. It's a jigsaw puzzle that I needed to piece together. Not many clues but an abundance of lies, deceit and very devious characters. A disturbing past and a bright future for Michael but is he capable of love, marriage and children? No reason why not. But.... A yarn was being thread, weaving it's way into the storyline. I was well and truly hooked! I found it quite complex, confusing at times and I was constantly questioning things (hence my detective comment) but it was so cleverly put together. Was anyone actually sincere? Possibly.... Take time to read this book, absorb everything. Then maybe you will find the answers before I did. Great storytelling.
Michael, Frances, Sarah, Jason, Jody… None of them are what they seem, they are so sincere in their deceit. All of the characters are incredibly well grounded, and yet the threads of their lives are tangled from the start to the very end. Recommended to psychological thriller fans and anyone else who enjoys a gripping, twisted, story.
Wow, what a read!!! I've loved all of this authors books and this one is certainly no exception. I absolutely loved Sincere Deceit by Jane Badrock.
I was hooked from the first chapter and all the twists and turns along the way kept me guessing until the end! No one is who they seem..
Highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of physiological thrillers. And if you've never read any of Jane Badrocks' books before, then where have you been?!
Jane Badrock has to be one of the most versatile authors I know. This time she's created a gripping psychological thriller, that had me turning the pages quickly to find out what the truth was. Michael seemed to have it all, a high powered job in the city, then he meets his beautiful wife, they marry in Vegas, and have a beautiful daughter, Belle. However things soon begin to unravel for Michael, he has issues from his past he's trying to keep hidden, but the more he tries the further he slips into drink and destructive behaviour. Is everyone around him as altruistic as they seem? You know you can't really trust any of them, but can't really put your finger on why. I liked Michael, felt sorry for him at times, Frances seemed oddly patient and at times naive. I think Sarah was possibly my favourite character. As you get to the final quarter the action really ramps up as the shocking truths are revealed. I read this cover to cover in one day. I was totally gripped. Brilliant.
I’ve read many of this author’s books &, as always, this standalone psychological thriller took me in directions I wasn’t expecting.
Short chapters, told from different POVs & occasionally timeframes, take the reader on a journey through the relationship of Michael & Frances. Both are high flyers but Michael has further to fall & does so with aplomb. An investment manager who is driven by wealth & his gr**n! Once married to Frances & living back in his childhood home, Michael starts to lose control of his life but through his own actions or is he being manipulated?
A cracking, fast-paced thriller & as for that ending!
I've just finished watching Playing Nice on TV and anybody who has seen it, will know that Miles was one of those characters the viewer loves to hate. A thoroughly vile person who you can't wait to get his comeuppance. I can pay Michael no greater compliment than to say I felt the same way about him. He perhaps had more redeeming factors than Miles, but not by much. A great plot and an interesting ending (which I could see coming from about 3/4 of the book). It didn't spoil the book for me - an excellent story. This was an ARC read so a big thank you to the author for allowing me to read it.
WOW!!! What can I say about Sincere Deceit by Jane Badroock... it was absolutely amazing. Such a page turner.
I didn't know what was going to happen next, I certainly didn't expect the ending.
I didn't like Frances from the off (this is testament to Jane's writing, not that she was a badly written character) and I had a mixture of emotions for Michael - you really kept me on my toes Jane!!!
This is the second Jane Badrock book which I have read and it won't be the last!!!
Michael is successful, charismatic and a womaniser. Someone who it is quite easy to dislike (though he grew on me as the story progressed). Then he met Frances…they marry, have a baby….but what is really going on. As the story unravels there are revelations, which only lead to more questions, and an ending which I didn’t see coming. A great read
I really enjoyed this book. Not my usual style but I was greatly impressed. The hard line of work city trading and home life a difficult mix. What a twist and not what I expected. Loved it.
Really enjoyed this book which is about Michael who meets Frances and all in a bit of a whirlwind they get married and have a child which Frances decides to call Belle, but is all as it seems?
Why does Michael seem anxious about the baby’s name?
Frances moves in with Michael and she soon starts to redevelop the house which backs onto the woods.
Why do the woods have such an impact on Michael? Frances admits something to Michael but what is it? Who has a secret and what are they hiding? Who is the tramp?
The title of the book suits this book absolutely perfectly. When I started reading, I found it had a very easy flow to it and became a real page turner. I love the way the author captures each of the characters and how the style of writing constantly keeps you guessing.
A lot of the story is based around Michael’s work and his colleagues. Jody is a real edgy character and I certainly enjoyed her vindictive storyline. I found Frances quite an unnerving character in the beginning and throughout I found my feelings constantly changed about her. The book involves lies, deceit and mental health which all lead to a great ending I did not expect.
